In Canada, it's probably French, because it's mandatory from grade 1 to grade 9, but they don't teach verb conjugation until grade 9, and you learn almost nothing. History is far from useless. This. PE worthless. Double worthless if you take it after the 30 minute breaks or last period. |

For me it's ethics, it's mostly stuff I already knew and basically all it comes down to is that it's all subjective and cultural-based. Another one is anthropology, I could care less if some indigenous people love eating their own booger as part of their cultural practice since I won't ever come anywhere near them or care that they exist at all. And by far the most useless one is gender studies, I'm sure y'all know why lol AmityBlight said: This. PE worthless. Double worthless if you take it after the 30 minute breaks or last period. In our high school they serve us fast food. McDonalds, Del Taco, KFC and papa john. Funny how let that flew especially since those were the years they complained about American Obesity. |

I guess every subject is gonna have some niché appeal if you're planning to go into that field, even Maths. I guess I'll go with PE then, because even if you are going into sports as a career, that's still only a quarter of the subject (at most) that'll interest you. |

Well I went to a Christian school for most of my life so imma say Bible. I always hated Bible class, it took so much time and energy. Like memorizing a new Bible verse every week or reading the stories we are all told since we are kids. Redundant and lame. |

I think all subjects are fine, but the most useless in my eyes would be art class. I'm an amateur artist and love it, but I don't see the purpose in learning about artists or how to properly design a comic and all that. Like yeah general knowledge is always nice, but I think the time of students could be better used. |

I try to be open to whatever subjects I've learned, but the Geometry and Trigonometry classes I took in high school were pretty useless for me. I know that Geometry and maybe Trigonometry might be useful IRL, but I never had to prove two angles congruent or draw parabolas after I passed those classes. Also, as much as I enjoy writing in cursive, I wished I could've leaned coding in elementary school instead. |

Local history for a place with an uneventful history or just not very significant. Advanced mathematics. So few people will ever use it and most will entirely forget it in just a few years plus we have calculators to do it for us . |

Too bad that people do not rather get to learn about probability and statistics at school, they could apply those fields every single day... How is cursive writing someone you need to learn separately from writing? Coding is better learned by yourself once you have basic knowledge of logic. traed said: Local history for a place with an uneventful history or just not very significant. Advanced mathematics. Only Mongrels would dare say history is useless. OP, maybe it won't make you get a job, but it teaches you about how the society you live in has been constructed, it teaches you about politics. And even if you may not get interested in politics, those are the ones who lead your life, deciding among which rules you will work, what your rights will be, or how you would just overall live. It allows you to develop your critical thinking, and reading your words, you sure need to. |

That's pretty poor teaching honestly if that is the case. That said I mean can it get you a job isn't the only good reason for education. History is incredibly important for citizens in a democratic society in terms of making decisions and learning from how states in the past have succeeded or failed. In that regard it's pretty useful. Honestly if it was just getting you a job pretty much any non concertation study was entirely useless to you. The amount of historical illiteracy out there appalls me especially when people use it to influence political perspectives. Not saying you should major in it in University or anything lol but yeah I think it's important for you to have a general understanding of history on your own time or study. You can move it into stuff like Law though. That said unless you plan to teach or the occasional positions in museums, research/writing etc it is mostly useless. |
