Dropping out of college to watch anime and make a living off of gaming

I have tried balancing education with anime, but it's near impossible to do so. In fact, trying to do both simultaneously is more hindering than it is beneficial, as I am unable to put 100% into either.

Explaining this to my parents isn't going to be easy, I want them at least to give me a year to chase my dreams, and if it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. Plain and simple. I wouldn't know unless I try, and this is something I really want to do and I'm feeling really good about it.

What do you guys think?

Even Lirik stayed in college while he streamed and still finished. Gaming isn't a sustainable avenue and it's foolish to think you can bank your livelihood on it with nothing to fall back on.

Don't be stupid, stupid. Finish college.

That's definitely NOT a bad idea, OP.

Seriously though, don't drop out of college just to watch anime. It's not worth it.

Go ahead and follow your dreams.
This is what an alpha man would do.
People who don't understand this, tend to be a loser.
I will pray for you, buddy.

gaming is already saturated to the brim with ppl who wanna make money off of it, you have to do something really creative if you wanna get noticed and even then you're still going to probably fail
for "career" opportunities like this you must have a plan b and plan c if you don't want to end up a neet
"I like young-girl sexual creations, Lolicon is just one hobby of my many hobbies," he says.
I ask what his wife, standing nearby, thinks of his "hobby".
"She probably thinks no problem," he replies. "Because she loves young boys sexually interacting with each other."

Graduating from college just takes 5-7 years at worst and you can watch anime after that.

Even Gigguk has Master in Electrical and Electronic Engineering before become youtuber.
Get yourself a degree first at least, then decide yourself whether you want pursue a working career base on your degree or play games and watch anime.
Only losers depend on their parents and later become incel in their life.

I watch over 700 anime, play lots of games but still manage to get myself a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person.

I think you need to learn to manage your time better, the typical anime episode is only 24 minutes long. That is really easy to make time for, even multiple times a day. I am in education as well and I feel like there is plenty of time to balance these things, just remember you can't have everything.

I think it's not that hard to watch anime and study, I normaly watch 2-3 episodes a day and in holidays I can watch a whole anime. The trick is to decide how much of your time you can be studying and how much of it you can be watching anime.

First a meme

I would advise against dropping out of college if you already started it. I am not sure if stuff like youtube can be a secure job for the future that is sustainable. Unless you make a decent income now from youtube quiting college is not a good idea imo. If you are starting a new channel it is unlikely to become popular enough anyway. If you still want to do youtube just try it as a hobby.

>to watch anime.
You practically only need few hours everyday to catch up latest anime.
You do not need to watch everything.

>Make a living off of gaming.
You can't, unless a professional player or popular streamers.
This probably most of the current generation gamers dream right now but you always need a backup by finishing that damn college.

I learned it the hardway although my reason are really different and rather personal to the college tradition.
Do not ignore education and tittles.
Not because they're unnecessary but you can't making living off of gaming forever and you always need a backup once you finish those gaming stuff.

Welp, this is officially the dumbest thing I've read all day.

This glorious signature image was created by @Mayumi!

I am the Arbiter of Absolute Truth, and here is my wisdom:

"Anime was always influenced by the West. This is not news.
Shoujo is the superior genre primarily aimed at young people.
Harem/isekai are lazy genres that refuse any meaningful innovation.
There is no 'Golden Age.' There will always be top-shelf anime.
You should be watching Carole & Tuesday."

Unless you've got something really unique going on with streaming games/discussing anime, I wouldn't drop out of anything, or shift your main focus to doing that.

Type in a random game on Twitch and take a look at the viewers that average streamer gets (as in, the ones mid way through the list) and try to find out how much money they make.
I have limited knowledge of professional streaming but I imagine most of them stream as a side-job kinda thing.
Even people that graft for years streaming may never get popular or make a lot of money, it's just how things go. People like Ninja or PewDiePie got there because they happened to be doing just the right thing at the right time and learnt to use that popularity to rise in viewer count.

Tbh. You don't have to go to college to be successful. I mean I dropped out because I had another opportunity by going to vocational school and I got a job planning on getting a different one eventually. At least think of what you're doing before you drop out. Last thing you should do is prioritize hobbies over education.

The average age of my university class is about 30. Oldest person in it is 40. So yeah uh the age argument is bullshit

In any case this is a terrible idea and the fact that one would even consider it is crazy. Sure, you can be successful in life without finishing college but this is not the way to do it

What a nonsense you talking about man. I'm currently a freshman in college and also taking 17 credit hrs of classes. Watching animes is no big deal in my life. I do study and watch animes side by side. And also i keep up the grades to A or B (or worst case scenario C). But i avoid failing.

i DO recommend to take at least 15 hrs of classes and watch animes heck lot. Also you need to study.

If your university allows you to take a gap year, this may be your most strategic route. Listen, college is not for everybody, I have to agree and it certainly ain't cheap but it's really really hard to take chances, especially if your alternative has a relatively small chance of being stable. I suggest you take about a year off to test out this plan of yours, try to make it work, test out different things, and if nothing works, get your a** back to college.

Wow, people are so rude. But they're right, don't just drop out of college like that, as if your career in gaming is already garanteed.

Most successful YouTubers and Twitch streamers out there either started young or had a job when they started, and those who dropped out of college only did so AFTER their long term success was secured.

So don't be reckless.
You are not your body, you are your brain, the "self" that emerges from within it.

I don't think that's a good idea. It's too risky, even if it's only one year... You can be in college and still watch at least one or two episodes of anime each day, right? :/

I think it's possible to balance education and entertainment, in fact I've done it. I have a Bachelor's and a Master's degree and recently just started working at my first job. I've never once stopped watching anime nor playing games and I do a lot of both. So, it's very possible to make work, you just need to be smart about how you manage your education with your entertainment.

Living off streaming is not very easy, I'm not sure how you'll gain your audience and I don't think you'll earn a lot unless you become very popular. I won't and can't stop you from pursuing it if you that's indeed what you want to do and if you do insist on giving it a try then by all means go ahead. I just think it's not prudent to drop out of college for it as the degree is worth more to you in the long run. I'd say get your degree first and then take the year off and try to see if streaming works out cause if not then your degree is will go a long way towards helping you find a decent job.

I think you just need to manage your time better. My brother manages to watch many series still after having both a job and being in college. He has every Friday off for college, but he still has work. He normally goes to college from I believe 8AM-1PM, and then leaves work around 4PM, and comes back normally around 11PM-12AM. Plus, it's a lot of money to be in college, it'd be a waste to drop out because of anime. Take advantage of your thanksgiving break, winter break, and spring break, because college does give that to you.

you're two years older than me so i cant give a good advice but dropping collage because of anime well it's beyond ridiculous, but i will say there some experiences you won't get just by attending class, become good boy or become honorary student.. go ahead see bittersweet of reality early but makes sure you won't regret it.. keep those flame burn as you can you'll need it

Wow wtf... Seriously? Dude, you really need to think a lot more about your major priorities.. Anime is just a free time hobby, it doesn't pay your rent. You're better off having a real job and also have some time to watch anime on your free time. And it sustains you a lot better, it's a huge advantage and it's a fact. Anime is pretty cool and all, but to literally devote your entire life to it? It's not worth it bro.. Just a friendly advice. To conclude, that idea is 100% ridiculous.
