Seems pretty illogical to me. If they have cannons, they must have gunpowder.

I think that would be more logical. I mean, given what kind of caliber is needed for a gun to even try and do some damage to a titan, cannons would be more beneficial.

When you see how little effect even the cannons have on the giants I think a small rifle would be kinda pointless.

Guns would still be useful, you could aim it at their weak spot and kill Titan's without getting up close.

You could have looked at some pics or watched the OP to be certain they don't have guns in them but instead you decided to make a thread that's illogical.

Cannons have small damage on titans.. How much more if it's a gun.. It would be like a tar-tar in their teeth..

Well if they do have guns, why weren't they used when the attack started?

Rewatch the opening.

Also, cannons have 0 effects in the titans.

I would imagine the cannons at least have SOME kind of effect on the smaller Titans. The only time they showed cannon being used was against the new giant Titan which broke through the wall. Guns, when shot in the face, could maybe slow them down, too.

I'm not gonna jump on the bashing bandwagon. But in all seriousness, how much effect do you think a gun would do to a titan, let alone an armored one? Given that cannonballs had little to no effect...

There is a time that guns are better than cannons, but alas that would require me to spoil with a page from ch7 to demonstrate it.

They have flintlock muskets. 3 rounds a minute. Effective range is around 100 meters. For their cannons they have grape shot and pomegrenades shot. I am not sure if they have rifled cannons. Judging by their inaccuracy they don't.

Damned straight. I still can't imagine how they managed to miss that huge armored giant.

Cannons and muskets definitely have penetrative qualities against a titan, but a titan more than likely isn't going to let you have the perfect angle you'd need, since you do have to actually remove the entire nape of the neck.

Don't worry, cannons and muskets are put to practical use later in the show.

They do have guns and will be using them in the first big battle and they are used to blind the titans not harm kill them.

I believe they use specially designed blades to attack a Titan. A gun would have no effect on them unless you aim for the eyes, which is too hard to do when you move as fast as them, and it would probably just hinder their maneuverability.

I was just about to make a post about the eye situation.

If you got them in both eyes they wouldn't just be hindered, they'd be blind. Which would make them at worst only be able to recklessly bash around instead of doing it with precision. Obviously the canon's haven't done anything, and I'm not sure why they haven't used the guns, even though the OP showed they do which has been mentioned quite a lot in this thread.

How are they even supposed to kill these things anyway? Wrap ropes around their legs to trip them and then stab giant 10ft blades into their head?

Another one is that historically canons came long before guns. Canons used to be huge, not so much because the projectiles were huge, but because poor metallurgy meant that the metal was fairly brittle and they need a ton of it to contain the explosion, even then they had a considerably large chance to explode. Guns, being so much smaller, were harder to make, and took improvements in metal technology before they were feasible.

And even when they were feasible they were used more like arrows than the weapon of choice. Pikes and swords maintained their dominance on the battlefield well into the 17th century.

The giants quickly regenerate so hitting them in the eyes would only temporarily hinder them, and their cannons are not accurate at all.

Only by taking out a chunk out of the back of their neck can they die, which they are able to do with their swords.

Because a gun would be ineffective in killing big ass titans.

It's also possible that they don't have the technology to make high-powered rifles (despite the fact they have a very complex 3D movement tool).

Of course a regular rifle/pistol wouldn't be very effective to these giants. It'll be interesting to see how the humans eventually find a way to fight them.

It's made in Japan. Of course, swords would be preferred to guns, kek. Anyway, we'll probably see guns in episode 6 or 7.

Also, the weak point of the Titan has to be cut out, not just cut into - this is why the soldiers are dual-wielding swords.

The Titans regenerative powers are also crazy fast. Some can regenerate their eyes in a minute and there's at least one Titan who could regenerate single (not dual) cuts to the neck area almost instantaneously.

And not where humans eat titans, because that wouldn't be logical.

Just because it's fiction doesn't mean you can throw out all logic, depends on the work.

Not really. Arquebus and muskets were weapons of choice for choice for musketeers. Pikemen, halbediers, heavy cavalry, light cavalry, musketeers, etc were all used together as a combined arms warfare so the one of choice for one is not the weapon of choice for the other. The musket itself was noted by contemporaries as being far deadlier than arrows.

It's explained in episode 5:

"What makes them such a threat is their vitality."

It varies from each individual, but their massive regeneration and the thickness of their meat (since they're soo huge) makes it hard to kill them with just a gun. And also you need to take a huge chunk of meat to actually kill them.

Swords are just better at doing the most damage to them. Also it seems they use a special type of sword.

How do they have compressed gas for the 3D Maneuver Gear but no ballistic missiles? With the kill to death ratio that the Human's are currently at, it would be smarter to launch like 100 missiles using the gas given to 100 soldiers. The missiles would kill more Titans than the 100 soldiers with Maneuver gear. Then the series would be pretty boring, though.
