but what do you think can it really help many people and did anime ever help you in anyway ?

It's arbitrary. A lot of things could potentially save a person's life, but it depends on personal background and interests.

It really depends...

You may avoid a car accident if you decide to stay home and finish the last 5 minute of your anime instead of going to school on time...

You may learn about which chemical shouldn't be mixed together...

hmmm....

that's as much as saying anything & everything can save lives if you look out of the square....

"McDonald's saved my life because the fancy high class restaurant I was about to enter just caught on fire blocking all exit's and killing everyone that was in it....lucky I had a craving for fries"

"Porn saved my life as I am a fat NEET who hardly goes out to exercise and my heart was ready to give up, but thanks to my 'extra-curricular' hand activities the doctor says I'm going to live"

...hope you see the picture there

I hate to be a downer (well not really) but if you consider the ratio of how many people have their lives "wasted" because of anime (ie. NEETS, otaku) compared to how many people have had their lives saved because of it you would see that the lives saved is quite insignificant.

Anime saved my dad's life.

One of my best friends and president of my college's anime club gave my dad his kidney.

Anime helps me overcome my depressions and I once met a guy that had his thoughts of suicide completely stop because anime cheered him up all the time. :)

Anime has changed my life, it did not save my life though. It gave me a different outlook on life, people, and society. I have learned to respect everything a little more and to be more grateful. I have also begun to take notice of people feelings and emotions. All though, to save my life would not be in the way you would hope for.

They are wasting their lives in your eyes, but they might not in their own eyes. There is no right and wrong way to live a life. It is their choice to live that way. I hate to be a downer, but do you actually know how many people have been "saved" and how many people have "wasted" their lives because of anime?

Anything can contribute to saving a life. A person's life is influenced by many, many factors and there's no reason for anime or any other sort of entertainment not to be one of them.

Second that.
And if anime "saves your life" then it's actually just you doing it by yourself, but with the anime acting as a catalyst for your inner will to live.

But remember kids, don't use anime as substitute for seatbelts. It doesn't tend to work.

Actually, it does, because it makes it so you don't even get in the car in the first place. A metaphorical seat belt, if you will.

Okay while it is arbitrary that it could save lives, I recon that anime does impact on a person on an intense level. One of the reasons I love anime is the fact that while it is entertaining, unlike western cartoons there is no sugar coating. Elfen Lied is a good example because there are topics that are involved in the anime that happen in real life, we are faced with them and have to realize that these topics exist (admittedly they also have girls with horns with invisible arms, but I hope you get what I mean).
this is what I think anyway and I don't mind anyone saying I'm wrong, or give me a different example then Elfen Lied. Happy to discuss this in order to understand more.

But it doesn't physically replace the seatbelt. What about watching anime IN a crashing car?

Yeah, anime can save lives. It just depends on whether the person watching the anime can be influenced or changed in a positive way.

like when some kids try to copy anime characters...
or even adults if they over-got into it !!!

Anime isn't exactly music but, I guess given the right circumstances and the right person, the right anime at the right time could save someones life.

I guess it really depends on your point of view. In the right situation and circumstances, you could say that anything saves lives. The creation of the medium does not save lives.

While you can nitpick and split hairs over it and twist it so that you could say that anime saves lives, but it does not directly save lives. Medicine saves lives. Doctors save lives. Safety devices like seatbelts and kevlar armor saves lives.

I think it depends on how it affects you. There are some anime that promotes violence, indecency, stupidity and many bad influences as well as good ones like friendship, trust and optimism. To others it's a form of entertainment, an escape from reality (like drugs). somehow it help others to cope up with loneliness but the irony sometimes it brings others to isolation.

Not unless there's anime out there that teaches first aid or cpr. then your statement about it saving lives is plausible.

Anime does not save lives.
People save lives.
Anime may influence people.
That influence can be life-changing.
But in the end, people save people.
Anime is a muse, people are artist.

In the end anything can save a life, but at the same time it can take or waste it.

Same goes for medicine. It may save you but at the same time it can kill you.

Not to start a huge argument, but I do not really feel like my life is wasted because of that. I can understand why you might disagree, but...

On topic, I imagine it can save lives. It has certainly given me something to focus on when life itself holds very little interest for me. It really depends on whether or not you consider its impact on peoples emotional states as saving a life.

For example, if someone has been considering suicide because life, and then they get into anime and it removes their wish to die.. Did it save the life? /shrug.

It just depends on what type of person you are or what you are watching...if you are influenced by such things, like say you saw something in an anime that really helped you then sure it can. If you are a person like me who isn't really influenced by things like that then probably not. Well that and when I watch an anime, I really don't really tend to think that deeply about it...
