This anime definitey loves food..although this case doesn't revolve one.

It actually has Kobato investigating into a class after being told by Osanai about a recent incident. Actually quite interesting that he trusts her this much. The pair has this unique relationship that is slowly being fleshed out.

Osanai continues to get screwed over and the way the anime visualized her anger despite Kobato's warnings to calm her down with the striking red sky was great. Considering how even a situation like the cocoa from the previous episode had Kobato have to go into detective mode, something about him being against what goes against his vision of wanting to be ordinary is interesting and makes me compelled to see more of how he became the way he did, and how that connects with Osanai. The fact that she might do something after she got blamed for issues she did not do and that led to desserts being smashed or bikes being stolen and destroyed and the mystery surrounding her nature makes me intrigued to see what happens in the next episode. Something about this series feels a bit unnerving under the surface and that shows some kind of potential for me that Hyouka did not offer whatsoever besides its animation.

The tonal shift when Osanai decided to seek “justice”, goosebumps and dread.

But more importantly, did Osanai and Kobato shared a lolipop? Kinda sweet.
Oh and lest we forget that Osanai ate like 10 slices of cake, hangry personified.

The hour of transformation has arrived for Saint Osanai. From the gentle innocence of a meek and tender lamb, she shall metamorphose into a fierce and relentless wolf, her heart now steeled with resolve. All hail Saint Osanai!

This episode was a bit interesting with the tonal shift and everything, but it's just so unbelievably boring doesn't help the characters speak so monotone and almost no inflection. It's quite a shame I have to drop it, the animation was so good.

Lesson learnt, do not fuck with Osanai’s bike or her cake. Turns her into John Wick lmao.

I fully support Osanai’s quest for revenge against the bike thief and I’m glad they’re making this a plot point because last week before the hot cocoa debacle, I had commented how dumb it was that Osanai gets summoned to the principal’s office due to something someone else did with her bike. Like she’s a fucking victim why would you be upset with her?

They stole her bike, committed a crime with it, messed up her cake eating plans and now they’ve ruined the bike? Plus they’re likely cheating on tests while everyone else is working their ass off? All the while she takes the blame. Fuck that. Find who it is and out them. I love the use of red to illustrate Osanai’s little descent into madness there, but I fully support it. Kobato talking about some “let’s be ordinary” man it’s nothing ordinary about being a victim of a crime and letting people blame you for it. Difference between being ordinary and being a bitch, stand up.

I do get some of his trepidation though if he’s been helping people and they’re ungrateful or turn on him in the end, but this is one of those situations to put those Batman detective skills to the test. I love how there’s the whole plot point earlier about Kobato keeping his phone off and now he’s gotta contact Osanai and give her some wisdom via the phone.

Good episode can’t wait for next week

Not quite sure why she didn't want to just report the guy to the police same day the bike was stolen, but hopefully Osanai's approach to seeking compensation is much more exciting.

Two moments in this episode made me laugh.
First one was at the very beginning. Despite claiming she also wants to be "ordinary" Osanai has that infamous "MC Syndrome".
Why she dresses differently from the other kids in her class?
The other moment was her justification for vengeance, "Capitalism, Ho!"... at least on the PTBR translation.

Anyway, I'll convince myself that this series was "being bad on purpose" to hide it's cards and cause confusion before revealing that the characters are in fact not that "ordinary" and yes, they have something very wrong inside them that may explode eventually if they don't put effort into containing it.
But still, I still find Jougorou a bit insufferable, he really cried about being discriminated for being too smart(ass).

EDIT: most unbelievable thing in this series have to be Osanai's weight. How is she not fat?!

Trying to rationalize why the previous episode were so "bad", that must be the reason.
Almost everything was "filler", the relevant parts were the ones about Osanai and her Bicycle. Jougorou is not the protagonist, his is the supporting character for Osanai despite the story being from his point of view.
I hope this is true and story kicks in in earnest from now.

Sucks that Obunai was forced to buy a new bike, and sucks even more that they found her old bike completely trashed. I love how the calm and unassuming Osanai was out for blood, cold-hearted vengeance to get payback for her bike...and her limited strawberry tarts. She makes a very good argument...if being ordinary means being content with what we have, then it's equally true that it should also mean to either get even, or prevent what we do have from being taken from us.

For future reference, maybe it would be a good idea to attach an Apple airtag tracker or rig something other kind of tracker to bikes, and then turn the data over to the police.

Seeing Kobato's outburst to Kengo really makes me want to know what happened during his middle school days. I hope they delve into that soon.

This does not feel like a Saturday show, it feels like a Wednesday show.

It has the potential to be good, but something is just not right yet.
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

That was also my thought at first glance. But it's actually not, Osanai had a pink lollipop and Kobato had an orange one, which means those are different. Also the scene from 13:39 shows Osanai putting it back to her pocket.

A much better episode after the previous one.

We actually got back to the case of the bike thief, and got a side case of glass shattering inside the cabinet. Plus, they built up the mystery about Kobato and Osanai's desire to be "ordinary" and what they are really capable of.

It may turn out to be a simple case of "they were too smart and got in trouble for it," but definitely a lot more intriguing than microwaving hot chocolate.

It's only right to do something when you're blamed or doubted for no good reason. That guy who stole Osanai's bike might not could care less about anything, but now he has done the mistake TWICE. Cakes and bike... all of it would be avenged xD

Also hey, she not picking the phone call means she's already on her way lol.

So much story packed in just a regular-length episode; I'm impressed!

I loved the whole broken vase case; it was a pretty clever trick. I have to say, though, I was a little worried for Osanai's stomach; no matter how delicious those French pastries looked, that much sugar is just going to wreck your guts.

The developments in the bicycle plot were intriguing. I enjoyed the field investigation instead of the armchair kind. Osanai's vengeful spirit is scary, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't interested in seeing her enact her vengeance on the thief. Also, I felt sad for her as she lamented about the fact that she had already been in trouble twice (and had had her tarts destroyed) despite having done nothing wrong.

I can't wait for the next episode!

Shoushimin Series Episode 3

Osanai is in her revenge arc.

Kobato just want to be ordinary. He don't want to be hated anymore because he solves everyone else problem. But this time, he might be compelled to do it because of Osanai.

Did Osanai just gave her lollipop to Kobato????

The premise of this show continues to baffle any logic. Kobato’s idea of ordinary is “Get robed, get blamed for it, do nothing about it” What an absolute omegacuck, even the stress-eater girl has more balls and self-respect. I swear i hope he gets his ass kicked and man the fuck up from his npc act

Thank god something resembling a story is finally going on. You know with stuff happening from ep3 continuing onwards to ep4. I was about to drop it. Not interested in episodic crap.
And let's be honest, outside of the visuals and Osanai being cute this show has nothing going for it.
MC looks so lame, his buddy looks cooler, the ordinary shtick is meh and if this episode was just another ep of MC figuring out irrelevant crap then i would've dropped it.
This is kinda pretentious isn't it ? Feels a little bit like it wants to be like the Monogatari series, with oh so deep n' witty dialogue, but fails spectacularly at it.

Agreed, it didn't help that there were moments of somewhat awkward silence when Osanai and Kobato were interacting with each other and I don't care much for how slow Osanai sometimes speaks.

Anyway, at least we got some background on Kobato and why he wants to live an ordinary life as he alluded to being despised when he would solve mysteries as some people apparently didn't want them solved.

@Alfredo-Sauce I mean, yes, I appreciate the background info on Kobato (it definitely was something that I was wondering about). However, the pace is just killing me here. I wish they fix it in the future, especially that this is a 10 episode anime. So, if they're to fix it, it has to happen fast now.

some slight shift of tone in the second half of this episode, especially the scene when Osanai got angry. And again, The cinematography was on point with The strong red lighting on her face which conveyed how strong her emotions were at that moment. There's also the scene at the end when Jougorou was visibly upset with a notable change in his voice tone and behaviour, revealing a glimpse of his true character. There's clear signs of the conflicts to come.

Would be great to see more of the above scenes with the gradual tone shift and the slow pacing because it will create more suspense which is definitely what the show needs right now. I heard there won't be an episode next week so maybe they are working on something big, the next episode(or episodes) could see more and more rising action.

Also want to mention how more of his backstory was revealed without manipulating time with a flashback, love when shows do that. It builds some mystery for the backstory and makes me more excited and curious to see it revealed in a flashback.

The secret rendezvous of Kobato and Osanai at the cake restaurant of Humpty Dumpty raises yet another mysterious case of glass breaking amidst exams, and goes back to school to get his phone in the locker and start his investigation on the mystery, all while Osanai finished his Mont Blanc in the process. And the thing about the rigged glass vase to cheat during exams, it must've been a valiant effort just to get everyone's attention for a big issue.

But if anything, Osanai cannot forgive Sakagami for using her original bike again, which this time, was run over by a car, not realizing it was there to begin with. What most probably happened is that the Minakami High School group of delinquents pecked on him, which led to the case happening in the first place. I thought that both Kobato and Osanai shared the same lollipop (though it's of different colours), but it's clear that Osanai is not content on just having her bike back, she needs Sakagami to pay for her ruined strawberry tarts, which goes against Kobato's idealistic Ordinary life, to take things as it is and not trigger any more sequence of events from there. Kobato asking Kengo for help, the former's bluntless against the latter's straightforwardness for quitting his detective life, it seems like he has gone through situations worse than that.

There's just no going back to the Ordinary life, not for Kobato.
