Looks like Rentt wants an upgraded weapon, or rather specifically an improved version of his sword. This episode adheres to some standard RPG gimmicks such as guilds and jobs to make money.

Given his standards, Rentt is also a hard worker so he does whatever he can to try and improve as usual. I'd say his work ethic is admirable.

New sword, new Rentt?

Rentt, who had commissioned a new sword from the blacksmith Clope, was impressed with the splendid craftsmanship of the blade. However, as his existence evolved, his magical, spiritual, and divine energies increased, prompting him to desire an even stronger sword. In aiming for a copper rank weapon, essential equipment was crucial, and acquiring it required gold. Determined to earn enough, Rentt headed to the guild, where he encountered a troublesome issue involving a villager in distress.

That sword is definitely making Rentt stronger.

A show of Rentt abilities, the magic system in this series is quite interesting.

Rentt took a side quest, spend minimal time figuring things out, swiftly complete it without any setback and received a sweet bonus reward at the end. Total RPG protagonist energy.

P.S: Lorraine sleeps naked is a peculiar bit of character building, one that I personally appreciated.

I love that they kept this story since it really does go into what the series is all about, ie the adventurer work grind. My only criticism is that they cut the part showing the Maiden riding a Kelpie who resides in the lake as the local protective spirit.

@felixsifuri

That's basically the series in a nutshell. It's very DnD/Witcher in that it focuses on the whole going out and doing the rough work of an adventurer.

Accepting quest outside guild system is a bad idea, and most likely a scam. Long time ago I accepting a non-guild quest to find a herb, which should be an easy mission for rank-D adventure like me, turns out there are many dangerous monsters in that area, I'm heavily injured, and I didn't even receive any compensation because I can't find a herb and the guild insurance doesn't cover the injury that occur outside the guild system. Rentt maybe lucky this time.

Epic episode!
Another fulfilling episode with Rentt.

Lorraine:
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

A day out for Rentt to get a new sword, and infusing it with divinity, though increases power, it gives off the impression that he needs more weapons that can manifest stronger powers. And someone who requests him to defeat this Lord of the Lake for one copper coin, Ryuntus from Tottsu Village comes to warn of their recurrent strange traditional festival for sacrifices of young girls, to which the next sacrifice would be his own sister Amiris. But something feels amiss from this, and Rentt would only clean his hands off if Ryuntus rescinds the request.

Rentt going around to ask of the festival, and the message he got was more of what's on the surface. And it seems like they need to deal with the monster, more than Amiris's sacrifice to "struggle" and defeat the monster as swift as they can, which adding the merchant group, is already a farce to begin with. His job is complete once he does the job, and while Amiris thanks him with a kiss, sadly that's not related to the kidnapping case.

Another day, and another side quest. But to Rentt, it's his job as an adventurer.

The best friend of an adventurer is both their weapon and their swordsmith. Without either their careers gonna be shortlived. Rentt's abilities really had improved quite a bit huh. The quest itself sure was a curious one. A classic tale of when a myth becomes real. Must be hard for the bro whose own sister is the sacrifice this time. In the end im glad that the monster in question was just a bunch of scum that took advantage of the legend. Would have liked to see Rentt rampage through the ship and shout You're can't kill me to the mastermind though. Would had been a great stage two to the fact that he had already told them that he died once already.

Kinda of a weak episode tbh didn't really need to use a whole episode for a side quest like when it wasn't even that interesting.
I wonder where they're taking this as it's becoming a bit repetitive imo.

Rent adding another girl to the harem already lol. Amiris is so cute!

Glad she got a happy ending with her brother and village. Rent is too hard on himself thinking that she’ll forget about him afterwards though and it was clear that Lorraine didn’t appreciate that! She even made a point to emphasise the “you saved ANOTHER girl and made her fall in love” bit but Rent too slow to pick up on what she’s laying down 😂

You can definitely tell this was a side story adapted episode, but it was still great! Some nice character moments and Rent got a new weapon. Can’t wait to see where things go next.

@tarfeef101 I mean they can but does that add anything to story?
Like sure, they can easily just say those slave traders sexually abuse and torture them like in Golbin Slayer, but what does that add to the story other than making the world setting unnecessary dark ?
The show didn't market it like that since episode 1, so it really doesn't add much to the story going this route.

Well , maybe this show would be more popular if they go that route though since nowadays people just like dark edgy brutal stuff, that's why Solo Leveling got so much attention zz. (And Goblin Slayer was super popular back in season 1 too cuz it's going that route).

OP: AAHHH MY EARS

ED: ahhh... relax.

In today's episode we have: human trafficking, thanks to these villagers being kinda dumb. They should've just relocate temporarily or something, just to see what would happen if the 'lord of the lake' didn't get a sacrifice. While they all did have sad faces, they seemed a little too ready to give up one of their own- especially the girl herself, who almost seemed like she WANTED to be sacrificed. Also with the first girl who was 'sacrificed', they all seemed surprised when the monster, the 'lord of the lake' ate her up. Like what were you expecting??

They don't even show them, but those poor trafficked girls man. This festival happens once a year right? Which means that there must be several girls who were cooped up in that shack across the lake for many years. Speaking of, why did those 'merchants' (ugh so many quotations amirite) keep the girls stored so freaking close? Do they WANT to get caught? Or maybe they knew the village was dumb asf so they just took the risk.

Also I'm surprised that those villagers allowed Rentt, an outsider they never met, and the BROTHER of the sacrifice, take the girl (I forget her name) out to the middle of the lake. They didn't run away, but wouldn't they suspect that the brother would want to save her from being sacrificed?? They were kind of just like, "yeah sure you can do it no prob!"

Getting kind of nitpicky now, but that lake seemed to not be that big. How did those merchants keep quite a sizeable ship there hidden all this time. Or maybe it was just there all this time, the dumbass villagers probably just thought nothing of it. Maybe it was engulfed in fog all this time, even during sunny days?? Also how did they even GET that ship IN the lake? Did those merchants just build it there without anyone knowing? Or did the SMART villagers just see them build it there and said: "oh wow, big ship in small lake, nothing wrong with that!"

But you know what, it's all okay, because we get to see Rentt go all out and beat down those merch- oh, he just jumps in illusion and then it cuts? Oh... okay, that's fine.

All jokes aside, still really enjoying this. And even if there may have been a bit of nonsense in this episode, it's all worth it for the kiss that Rentt gets in the end. <3

Maybe it's because it's a tired trope, but anybody could have seen it was actually humans trafficking slaves from a mile away. I knew it the moment they stepped into the village, thinking it might have been the villagers themselves as they hid away from Rentt as he walked to the house...but knew it for certain the moment they showed the merchants loitering around.

As for the human traffickers...Rentt has the golden opportunity to make the sinners "disappear" and evolve simultaneously. But I guess he couldn't do it because he needed information on where the girls were being held or sent off to.

I'm curious as to what exactly happened to that ball of wood.

When are they gonna introduce the little mouse with red cape?

Nice episode Rentt got a new sword and he can put divinity on his weapons now which makes him one step closer to his goal🙌🏽

My boy really got a kiss from the hottest girl in the village, and I can’t even lie… Amiris is so cute and tbh was looking HOT in that sacrificial dress😩😮‍💨

It’s a shame Rentt thinks she’s gonna forget about him as time goes on which I doubt since he literally saved her life from being sold as a slave, and Lorraine is jealous we can all tell bc how did she even know a girl was smitten by him?🤣🤣

Once again I gotta say the ending song is so good, most chill relaxing ending I’ve ever heard🔥

Rentt sure made quick work of that new sword when he attempted those new attacks, I wonder if the blacksmith regretted telling Rentt about those rumors lol, but now Rentt has something new to hone, I’m sure with time it will be very powerful. And the main point of this episode being about this “Lord of the Lake” was pretty good, although I feel like this story would have been much better with more time dedicated to it, because it was very obvious from the beginning those merchants were sus and then it was immediately time for the sacrifice, I think more snooping and buildup would have made it better.

However, I did still enjoy this one a lot, I was glad to see Rentt not backing down despite what Amiris told him, and her decision to stick around was kinda dumb too imo but Rentt made it work out, I only wish we got to see him kick ass some more. And then at the end Rentt ended up getting a cheek kiss on that dusty old mask, I guess the spooky skeleton rizz works sometimes lol. And lastly that was a nice scene with Lorraine in the bed at the very beginning, definitely a nice way to open an episode lol.

@tensaikoudakishi TBF if you need to hide your face and body, you basically have to wear a mask and cloak. And that basically guarantees you are gonna look suspicious. Though that doesn't explain why he acts so stiff in public (unless someone is offscreen holding a remote detonator).

On the topic of the episode, I think this one was a little thin. While him going off on a Witcher-esc side-quest isn't bad it screamed kidnapped into slavery too hard. I would've liked more focus on him investigating the lake and having mixed evidence of monsters and it not adding up with the merchants being something maybe only seen in the background. As it stood it was more focused on the mood and than the story to the detriment of the story.

Rentt is such a lady-killer. Becoming a sharp elder vampire would surely fit him.

But yeah, that part at the beginning of the episode with Lorraine, now I know why Rentt had to bite her when they reunited after he became undead. She really is a snack, and I know she doesn't mind if Rentt wants to bite her.

That's actually the plot of one of the side-stories. Rentt and Lorraine get commissioned

It was interesting as hell because most series don't ever consider or show how stuff like that would work. The episode was a bit more rushed since Rentt does ask about the ritual and it's a metaphorical "sacrifice" and not the real thing until the girls started being eaten. Rentt found this suspicious since if it's such an old custom that's been going on without a hitch for so long, why have now things changed? The time table was also different in that the lake monster changed it from yearly to monthly I think. The ending shot also had the REAL spirit maiden show up on a kelpie in the background as Rentt leaves.

That was some weird powers Rentt has when testing out that combining ability. Seems well thought out. Two combined destroys and three combined creates something new from what was destroyed.

I knew it was some trafficking thing as soon as the merchants were there.

The only thing of importance this episode is Rentt finally got his sword and testing it on. He's going to be so strong if he can master having those three techniques at once. Everyone who knew him before the tragedy already seen through his charade. He really got a friend on his side.

Side quests are always tedious but necessary if it was a game but it's not so, this episode feels like a fill-in, like a bottle episode on tv series. Just let him be on the dungeon.

It doesn't even need to be said explicitly. In most contexts in most worlds and stories, just as in our world, people being captured by kidnappers and traffickers and sold for a price into effectively slavery are going to be abused. And especially women and girls (children/teens generally really), beaten and raped in addition. Whether it's stated explicitly or not or how much time is spent focusing on the details of it just comes down to which tone the series is trying to set, or how much time they have in their runtime with their pacing to spend time on more minor details which can be inferred. And a lot of newer series from the past several years which are only commissioned for 11 - 13 episodes and no immediate continuation seem to want to skip dwelling on as many things as possible for time reasons, with the bonus that cutting the grisly details of some of that kind of content will probably mean driving off fewer of the more sensitive audience members.

As for how they're succeeding so far in their portrayal of whatever it is they're seeking to portray, I would say that this world comes off to me as one where dark and brutal, vicious and violent things (besides just people like random adventurers killing random slimes or goblins) definitely do exist and can happen, just like ours, but one which also has enough calm and peaceful spots and safe (or safer, relatively) havens away from that, like ours, so it's not a doomed or apocalyptic psychologically unrelenting grimdark or dark fantasy-style universe.

More like the average classic fantasy world. Not all honey and roses, but not all terror and suffering either.

Huh, Lorraine sleeps naked... ( ⚆‿⚆)

Imagine how those bed sheets smell *SNUFFF*

.

Also... Cuts Logs with Divinity and it sprouts...

"Must be a low rank god"... imagine it be the usual MC plot armor that it turns out to be some super high ranking God, LOL

hmm... combining magic into the sword, multiple "divine magic"? But he turns the log into a ball... LOL

.

Hmm... "Lord of the Lake"...

LOL @ the sis, "he looks like a weirdo", well... she's not wrong... Rentt DOES look like a weirdo with that setup...

Also... RIP, how many girls has been send to the lake... especially since they all ends up as slaves (most likely sex slaves, since they're targeting just "young girls")

(tho... apparently the village girls are safe? I thought they did this every few month and sell the girls off... but they didn't sell any of the girls for months and also kept them close to the village? HUH?... that's some stupid ass human traffickers... can't even do illegal stuff right)

.

Also... Rentt just became Jesus, LOOOOL

Extremely Dense Weirdo Jesus tho... Rentt just put the "kiss" aside as a small random event... yes, this guy needs to be punished.
