Although high school is way too overdone at this point, college settings genuinely send me into "panic mode" thanks to my, quite frankly, soul-crushing college experiences, so I could do with never seeing another college setting for as long as I live, lol

I would like to see more college settings but anime/manga industry not into that because there are less material compared to high school setting. In high school anime/manga they are teenagers and it contains teenager problems, more romance, clubs, (school) festivals..etc so simply more materials. On the other hand, college setting; they are more adult (well expect Uzaki-chan xd) and they have less having fun or do activity or some of them working and doesnt makes it college setting much.

but that is the thing you got more spare time in college since you can just enroll to few subjects each semester so more time for them to do crazy things than high school the story writers can adjust good

It’d be cool to see some anime set in college. Are there any notable ones right now?

I'd prefer more anime with adult characters. Odd Taxi was a nice change of pace because almost all the characters were well into adulthood.

Oh hell yeah the college setting is so refreshing. The characters are usually much more realistic and less cliched. I suppose it in part comes from them being independent, but they're so much better to see, as all the stupid tropes are usually avoided, and college settings lend to more mature premises than your average high school anime. The first thing that comes to mind for me is Tatami Galaxy.

Both would be great, but I prefer Highschool settings more.
I love anime JK girls very much and seeing them getting sexualized is extremely hot.
Loli hentai is hot.

"do you want more college settings or high school settings in future anime?"

I mainly want interesting and ably told stories, those can come with any setting.

Specifically trying to pander to certain demography expecting reactions like"This is set in the college thus more relatable to me! I should check this show!" means the authors are not focusing on the story or how it is told.
More of a red flag to me, especially with boring settings like school and university...and I mean boring to watch fictional characters going there not actually studding there.
For example they failed to make interesting even the magic school in Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei.

I want more college settings. There are certain topics that could be done way better in a college setting, like drug abuse, crisis about your decisions, real independence, and shit. School setting is cool, but most of the thing you can do with it are more transformative than new

Run with the Wind is pretty accurate at depicting many issues that college people could face, like lack of drive, sense of despair and loneliness, separation from your family, and the final breath of freedom before entering the workforce

Who are the 6 (subject to change) people who voted for high school? I mean they are a crap ton of anime already set in high school, just watch 'em.

More fantasy or dystopian settings with a mixed cast consisting of characters that go from young adulthood to middle age would be welcomed.

Awesome, thanks. I have it on my ptw but now I feel a bit more eager to start it. I agree with what you said on how the college setting could approach real life issues in a raw way.

Way too sick with high school themes, I literally try to avoid if I see an anime with high schoolers (or any type of school). But since college should come with adults and is rarer than high school, I would prefer college/uni over high school any day.
I would like to see more historical or fantasy oriented school settings tho. Something fresh and unique.

That would honestly be really cool, like imagine a show like k-on but you see a season in university after the season in high school

Edit: just noticed i said university instead of college. what's the difference between university and college from your perspective?

A lot of the times college shows fall into different cliches but cliches nonetheless. It's the same thing with a different coat of paint. There are shows set in high school with an amazing premise, and there are shows set in college with a, we'll call it less than stellar premise.

Well it's essentially the same just depends on what programs are being offered.

Neither, I would prefer several anime where each one is about specific kind of work. It could be done in a manner of Shirobako or Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasu na! since Japanese authors like to flavor anime with details.

Anime fans are getting older. It's time for the creators to realize that, and put some actual mature stuff in their content rather than just tease with the super-sized tits. No bloody noses needed; just give the bland MCs the will to act instead.

I want more anime not set in any sort of school and with characters that are not teenagers. This 'teenagers save the world from adults using the power of their feelings/friendship' nonsense needs to stop.

I want a college setting and more young adult characters I can relate to if possible. There's WAY too many high school anime, and while I don't dislike it, I think it's good to change things up a bit.

i'm fine with either setting (more inclusion to college settings would be nice tho), it just depends how they write the story. for example, rent-a-girlfriend and uzaki-chan wants to hang out are not appealing to me, despite being a college setting, while chihayafuru is a good high school setting because there are characters that are in college, as well as working adults.

Sure, why not? Before i watched Nana, i thought both of them were women that shared an apartment and went to university together. I kinda wish that would have been the final concept, but the final version is better, which is earlier adulthood post college or whatever

Offer here just follows demand, which means the age distribution of the protagonists follows that of the viewers. So we get the bulk of them at high school age (shounen), few at college age (seinen), and very rarely we get working age adults (seinen+). I don't see this changing any time soon, because people prefer entertainment with protagonists sharing their situation, age related reality, and problems. This includes a nostalgia effect, and we all can remember school but fewer people attended a college.

I voted college, just because it would be nice to change things up a little. Also "Uzaki-chan" is not a good example.
Golden Time is a better example, of what would work.

Eh more adult characters not because I want to live vicariously through them but just because it's a nice balance. I like HS SOL and romance stories and teen MCs in my action titles but they overwhelmingly dominant so I would like to see more adult MCs to balance it out. In SOL titles especially adult MCs do offer different perspectives and in general it can be refreshing to just have characters with adult problems compared to the escapism usually associated with HS SOL stories.

I don't really lean one way or the other on this, but I would say that high school anime are probably more popular not just because the target audience, but also because they're more relatable, more people go to high school than college, and college experiences differ greatly. Personally, my college experience was basically the opposite of the stereotypical experience. I lived at home and commuted to school every day, so I was really only on campus for classes and maybe lunch/dinner if there was a gap between my classes and I was hungry.

Have more college settings,as it is easier to relate with them than the high school now.
But even then those students in high school aren't doing anything like your average high schooler,so in the end it doesn't really matter
