Just did my FIFTH re-watch of this movie at home (watched the movie like 4 times in theaters) and man I gotta say this movie just never gets old! The viewing experience is still just as good as the theaters, and it really warms my heart to see the original manga source material elevated to such insane heights! I hope they do a mix up of the art styles from season 1 and this movie for the second season that will come out eventually.

Every comedy bit in this movie was absolutely abysmal, I dont know if its the director or just Chainsaw Man in general.
Rest was fine.

I watched it and I’m not surprised by anything.
Some manipulator chick is the main villain. Seriously? Makima 2.0 but with a different wig and on the opposite side. Besides seductive girls, can this anime do anything else? Another nut-bait job just like the first season. This seductiveness is all over this show and I'm already sick of it. At least the directing was definitely better than in the first season, because this time there was no forcing that wannabe cinematic vibe.

The animation is mostly good, BUT…

1. In many action sequences you simply can’t tell what’s happening on screen. Sure, it’s supposed to be chaotic, but the chaos should be for the characters, not for the viewer who literally can’t see what’s going on.

2. There were also parts where the characters moved like they were missing in-between frames, making their movements inconsistent to the point of giving me slight dizziness. Watching Infinity Castle didn’t give me reactions like that. That’s not professional. It really feels like some shots were done by less experienced animators or they just ran out of time, which is not defensible with such a simple and sometimes downright ugly art style.

Speaking of which, the art style. I’m really not a fan of simplifying the details so much. I get doing it in a very complex action shot, but not for the whole damn movie.

Comparing it to the last movie I watched, Infinity Castle, I’d say both films are on the same level. One has good technical production but a pretty weak story (DS), and the other has okayish technical production (mostly animation and only in some places, the art style doesn’t even come close to DS), but story-wise it’s another nut-bait job. Better than DS, but only slightly. CSM would probably end up being the best film of the year for me, but I still have 100m to watch and since it’s from the author of Orb, I can be sure 100m will be better for me than both of the previously mentioned ones.

CSM doesn’t deserve top 2 oat, but I see the glazers and annoying fandom are hyped just because there’s a lot of movement on screen, even when it has zero coherence or readability. And from the comments, it seems like this movie doesn’t even have any impact on future events, which makes it feel even more like a waste of time. What was the point then? And I probably wouldn’t be nitpicking if it was a filler movie like Black Clover, but here the fillerness exists in the manga itself.

In short:
Direction: very good.
Art style: crap. That note at the end about not using the film for AI training made me laugh a bit. I fully support that stance, but I don’t know who would even want to generate such an ugly, detailless style anyway xD
Animation: good, but only in some places, considering my earlier complaints about it.
Story: good, but far from great. A bit of artificial romance, a bit of action (often with no coherence)

tbh, I didn't really like it. idk why.. when I read this in the manga I was like "this would look kinda sick animated". Maybe it's just been too long so I'm a bit detached from CSM, but idk, it just felt like a bit empty and predictable with really good animation.

Great movie

They real asf for giving us the digital release this early, unlike DS. Finna wait another 6 months for the movie. 😒

This artstyle was beautiful and truly captured Fujimoto's manga art.

Makima be so damn weird, man.

Love the way that they introduced Reze, simply calm, but chilling at the same time. Great personality and character, despite her hidden thoughts.

That lingerie sequence 😮‍💨🥵

Nah, they really gave the serial killer mad aura, but Reze's was greater.

What a painful kiss, Denji can't seem to avoid the crazy women no matter what, lol.

The way that she turns into Bomb Devil is breathtaking and she really soloing everyone she sees with ease.

Beam and Denji are such a elite duo against the Typhoon Devil.

Calm fight between them and Reze, but definitely a lil bit more could have been desired, but we good.

Damn, rip Reze. She really loved Denji despite her fake lies. She just wanted freedom and love, but couldn't get it bc of Makima standing in the way of her and Denji's potential future lives. She didn't deserve to die like that, especially that "close", to freedom.

All my 🥷 hate Makima.

Worst part is that Denji waited until the open hours were over, he was just as oblivious as he always his, which hurts the most.

This movie adapted the last few pages of ch 38, 39-52.

Underwhelmed. I didn't really enjoy the first 45 minutes or so. The last half was certainly more interesting, though I certainly wouldn't put it on season 1's level

Didn't find it funny at all. Most of it wasn't as shocking or plot twisty as season 1. Not much new info on this world's "lore".And the animation (it art? Idk, whatever is technically called) was surprisingly worse than season 1. The characters just looked cheaply drawn a lot of the time

I liked learning some about these angel and shark fiend/fevils though

Probably about a 5.5/10

@lalindu Not at all. I’ve seen the characters’ movements in the first half of the movie and their moves weren’t consistent or fluid. Watching them was nauseous. Of course, I’m talking about only some cuts. Some of them were done better, that’s my impression.
As for the incoherence in the second half, there’s no way you disagree with me. You can’t be that blind

@Nouzen_Chainsaw You seem pretty confident with your barking for someone who, I bet, has never done any kind of animation unlike me, who has. I’ve worked on 3D animation, not 2D, but still, I have some knowledge and understand the gist of animation in general.

These were my impressions and the feelings I had while watching the movie and one of those feelings was nausea. I saw the characters’ movements in the first half of the movie and their motions weren’t consistent or fluid. You can’t tell me they weren’t missing in-between frames. Watching them was nauseating. They were switching their body positions without coherence in some places.
Of course, I’m only talking about some cuts. Some of them were done better, that’s my impression.

You enjoyed the movie and don’t see any flaws? Good for you. I enjoyed it too, but I can see what’s good and what’s bad about it.

Typhoon yelling "CHAINSAWWWWWWWWWWWWW" was fantastic. Denji's Speach about girls only wanting CSM's heart instead of Denji's heart was fantastic.
Sad how every character that dies in CSM has to suffer the worst fate imaginable when they do, but that's what makes the series so fantastic.

Somewhat rewatched on a react channel and it's definitely a solid 9/10. Massive upgrade from S1 story wise. I love that you're led to believe Reze is completely manipulating him only for it at the end realize she had the same "problem" Denji had (Denji kept saying his body is acting on his own, and Reze was suffering the same, and she was almost unaware of it too, which just makes it more fascinating).

But I'm kinda sad, but not surprised, people are mainly talking about animation. For me, animation was an upgrade but I def had problems on certain scenes where it became too "fantastical" and you could barely understand what was happening or if there was any physics involved. With that being said: Animation quality is pretty subjective and I still hold the opinion it shouldn't be the a key factor to determine whether something is good or not.

Anime community love to say they don't do this showing God of Highschool rating as proof, as if that shit being rated anything above 6 isn't an proving them otherwise. I can even excuse someone saying soundtrack can be the saving grace of an product, because music can give emotions on its own, but animation is there solely to enhance the story quality, not to be a replacement. This is gonna be a pretty massive review of the movie and one from someone who used to honestly kinda hate Chainsaw man as a whole (Used to) but I mean if any massive or casual fans want a look into a review of someone who openly admits they hated this show at one point here it is. I'll try to compile my thoughts as best as possible. Yap fest incoming

Firstly I'll say my original reason for hating or somewhat disliking Chainsaw man is a few reasons, I personally at the time found it really lacking soul. I found Denji to be insanely insufferable, the side characters didn't interest me that much the overall story didn't really captivate me and I mainly thought the show was insanely disgusting. Which I should point out I was being one insane hypocrite in that regard because some of my favourite mainly manga's have WAY more disgusting or equally as screwed up scenes in them. I will say though prior to my opinion changing I will say the animation, music and power system was something I all loved and praised the show for.

But my opinion on Chainsaw man as a whole shifted after interacting with the community and just overall getting a very different perspective on the anime and mc as a whole. I do still think the anime is somewhat lacking in characters which I particularly love but that's more personal preference im not saying their badly written their all generally amazingly handled. But honestly I actually had the biggest shift on my view of Denji as a mc, like he's actually an incredible mc and very well handled and im sorry anyone who sees him just as some dude wanting to get laid needs to revaluate their look on the show as I once did.

But to actually talk about the movie I will start by saying im not gonna compare this to Demon slayers movie since I have a massive bias towards demon slayer and as such it wouldn't be right to do so however I may bring up JJK since that's another mappa work I love. I will say though both Demon slayer and Chainsaw man are two movies meant to be watched on the big screen the vast size of the infinity castle and the massive explosive and colourful masterpiece of the fights in this movie are meant for the big screen. I personally watched this at home right after it dropped digitally (Diabolical how quick the drop was btw)

So firstly I'll say this was absolutely phenomenal from start to finish, I really love how focused this was on Denji. I get he's the mc but I mean the movie was almost entirely focused on him and his dynamic with Reze and not really any other characters I guess a very small bit of Aki. Admittedly my memory on what the plot of Chainsaw man is a little foggy so I really should have watched a recap. But in basic terms were hunting the gun devil if I remember correctly

Starting with the music and ost's and all that it was superb I believe they used a few tracks from season 1 in the movie and it all blended with what was happening on the screen perfectly. Plus man the ost for the pool scene with Reze was superbly done especially for that scene in particular. Plus I mean for a fighter as chaotic as the bomb devil some of the tracks they used were so like intense and it just fit perfect for how Reze fights. As for the animation it was absolutely phenomenal, I always praise mappa because especially with their more recent stuff they are not afraid to really experiment with animation styles and what not which I find not many studio's do. Or at least not on as vast a scale.

I personally prefer consistent animation style which matches with the backgrounds perfectly. Aka what ufotable does with Demon slayer or what Mappa did with JJK season 1 and movie 0. But this more simple and rough style of animation they used for JJk s2 and the reze arc movie looked absolutely phenomenal. It has its real own beauty behind it and I mean I gotta say again this arc was perfect for a movie. From what I know this was one arc wrapped into a single movie and I mean like I said for a character like the bomb devil they had so much creative freedom with how they could deliver the action and man did they deliver.

I will point out the whole thing with the typhoon devil. Like I feel like literally the only purpose this mf actually even had on the story was literally just to create a more intense fight between Reze and Denji. But I mean hell if that's all hell idc it was handled amazingly.

But to talk about the story for this movie man its really tragic, two teens with such horrible lives who in the end find solace in eachother and in the end get separated. Like the whole irony of Reze being sent to hunt Denji for his heart and in tern in the short time they spent together she genuinely fell in love with him. Which honestly might just be because she's the same as Denji. Someone with such a horrible and lonely life its natural she'd latch on to the one connection she found much like Denji with Makima. But man the ending was so god dam depressing Reze took a chance on Denji and went back for him only to be killed by Makima for working with the Gun devil and her last sight was of Denji waiting. But like honestly at least she got to die as depressing as it is realistically Denji's just gonna suffer more because he genuinely fell for her and even after everything Denji wanted to still be with her and yet after everything because of Makima basically he's left thinking Reze left.

As much as I hate to say it I really love how this was handled because I love dark and depressing plots which torment their mc and I personally like how chainsaw man handles this more so than how JJK handled Yuji. But I do hope one day Denji gets a break cause man he's been going through it. But I mean I suppose he does still have Aki and power. But that's more family love like a brother and sister rather than a romantic partner. I gotta say though Beam is the undisputed goat this man may know more than he's letting on but dam this mf stuck with Denji the entire movie like a real bro.

Im gonna be honest out of the two segments I honestly preferred the first half. I unironically in a shonen anime preferred how they handled building up Reze as a character and mainly her relationship with Denji over any of the actual fights. Don't get me wrong the second half was incredible but honestly just seeing Denji and Reze interact was so beautiful

Overall this was phenomenal, I will say I don't really know where the shows going, the movie ended without really setting anything up. I do know bits and pieces about the manga I havent read it but I've been spoiled on parts. Such as the design of the gun devil. (which I have a weird feeling will be animated terribly when it comes around based off the things design). But again this was phenomenal

A high 9/10

Edit: I gotta say quickly I love the power system in this anime, its extremely basic but works so perfectly and even so it lets you anticipate what future characters may come into the show through just guessing what fears humans naturally have. Like idk death would probably be a obvious one but idk if they'd make a devil from a fear like that. A clown devil perhaps. hell a knife devil maybe. Or maybe that was already a thing I can't remember honestly

This was great as I expected, but not as great as everyone was saying. I mean, I’m obviously in the minority here, but I like season 1 visuals more. Like, it’s obvious that as a movie Reze does look miles better than original series (these fight scenes are really jaw-dropping), but I prefer colors, art and directing of s1. Director Yoshihara, being as overrated as he is, also doesn’t help, though I can’t really complain here, as movie looks great from any standpoint.

Well deserved 9/10. I hope we’ll get more soon.

What makes this movie truly impeccable is NOT the animation, but the sheer amount of love and passion that went into it as a whole.
It excels as an adaptation by staying faithful to the source material, yet it never feels like a cheap clone, since it has its own distinct identity and benefits from the director’s outstanding vision.
It also seamlessly blends seemingly disparate themes and genres, switching between them organically with an impeccable style.

Out of the 1000+ animu I've seen, this is the 4th one I've given a 10/10 rating and I didn't hesitate at all.

-Directing was a lot better than the mess that was Season 1
-Sound design was really nice
-Reze is a really charming girl and the usage of her powers is really clever.
-Denji is still meh to me, not a bad character but not good either
-Animation was S tier quality, tho since I don't really care that much about the story in general it didn't hype me up
-Angel boy is cute AF

Overall an enjoyable movie

It's been a long time since I last watched this series. This show once again amazed me how they once again gave the audience an extraordinary experience. It would not be surprising if they deserve to be at the top for the next few years. The Reze arc succeeded in impressing me just like what they did in season 1.

I was happy because there was an improvement in the animation which was getting crazier and the background sound they chose. And also the theme song, this time I was very happy to be able to hear another Kenshi work. Certainly an extraordinary experience.

And it also gives me a slightly sad ending, with how they adapted the manga story to Reze's tragedy. That's so sad man.

Elevated an already perfect volume of manga. This made me cry so many tears, many of sadness and many of joy... BETTER THAN THE FUCKING MANGA, AND THAT'S SAYING A LOT. If we continue with this quality for the rest of the adaptation, we're going to get a generational series. Chainsaw Man Part One will be talked about for years to come once it finishes being adapted.

I stopped myself from watching this movie until now because I had finals, but pretty sure I just fucked up my calc final today, so might as well watch it now. Hopefully I do better on my physics final tmr. I stopped myself watching this to study but ended up mostly just ended up reading the Re:zero webnovel. Should've just watched this instaed and read Re:zero latter. Really does feel like whenever I have exams are when I have the most distractions and can't stop myself.

This movie was a great experience, even if I just watched it on a monitor or on a laptop. Maybe I should've gone to the theaters when it first came out instead of waiting till now.

I've read this arc before already but thanks to my shitty memory I basically got to enjoy seeing this like it was the first time again but sadly I remembered the ending so knew that was going to happen anyways. Reze actually went back and Denji waited for her the whole day but well Makima. Maybe one day or in another world we could've seen Denji and Reze got to school normally. I really feel bad for Denji.

Also seeing the movie again now I get why so many people ship Aki and Angel lol. Aki doesn't have much time left yet he still reached out to grab him. I wonder if it is because he knows he doesn't have much time left he could do that? If he still had a long life ahead would he haved grabbed him?

Power basically got a time out this movie but the moments of her in the beginning and end were fun. Beam who acted as a replacement was great. I remember why so many people like him now.

Still this movie really was a blast. I really liked how the first season looked but the artstyle of the movie was great as well. Idk which I like more but I think the first season was quite rare for anime so really glad it had the art style it did and I think the artstyle of the movie fit perfectly as well. The fights were amazing, and the music was top-notch as well. Also despite how amazing the action was, the non-action scenes really stood out in this film. From the makima date to the pool or the ending after credits it was all done perfectly.

Would I rather be a city mouse or a country mouse...ngl for me probably country mouse, but if I'm in the city already, idk if I can leave to be a country mouse.
