@Zarutaku Agreed, it would help a lot if the anime title is added, because many more teachers go by some nickname. Looking at you, GTO. I didn't recognize almost any teacher by name and clicking trough a list of 3 dozen entries is cumbersome.

@Zarutaku I'm following the MAL db, and for many of the characters nominated here, they don’t have an alternate name with 'Sensei.' Even when I was registering Gintoki's name, I thought about listing him as 'Ginpachi Sensei' rather than 'Sakata Gintoki,' but unfortunately, they don’t allow registered the alternate name. Because of this, I can’t use it. Also, having some characters with 'Sensei' and some without would feel a bit abrupt, since all the characters in the nominees list are meant to be sensei. So, I chose to use the standard name for everyone without any alternate names.

What about adding the optional nickname in between?

@inim You can use 'Ctrl+F' to find which characters have already been nominated and which haven’t. That’s why I use their original names rather than alternates. For example, if you have a character in mind but don’t know the full name, you can search for at least one or two words of their name to get a sorted list, which makes it easier to nominate the character.

@nirererin The point I was trying to make is slightly different. In the original list at https://myanimelist.net/forum/?goto=post&topicid=2233921&id=73302875 it would be useful to add the name of the anime/franchise next to the name. I agree a precise name is good. However, I had to click them before learning that I watched half of the shows but didn't memorize the Japanese name except for rare cases. Thus: Please add the name of the anime/franchise in posting #1 next to the name. Also: ctrl-f doesn't work across MAL pagination.

Is this some kind of forums game? I this was just a thread to mention your favorite anime teacher. As for the character image, Roshi is an iconic character so any picture of him will be instantly recognizable.


Dragon Ball is my favorite manga and Roshi is unironically one of my favorite characters. If you specifically wanted a DB character there are lot of other teachers in the franchise - Whis, Kami, or another iconic option would be Piccolo who trained Gohan.
