That was everything I had hoped it would be. Visually it doesn't miss a beat from what the original series looked like. The remixes of the old songs were great to hear too. I didn't expect some complex explanation as to why Stocking killed Panty, I always felt like Trigger couldn't think of an ending so they came up with something shocking instead. This was massively chaotic and vulgar, and I loved every second of it. I had to watch it dubbed, hearing curse words every 5 seconds is hard to beat. A little disappointed they weren't able to get the original voice actors back though.

Admittedly I was a little wary coming in to this one, thinking Trigger may not be able to capture the same magic as the original, but this first episode gave me a lot of confidence that they're going all out on this one. Very excited for more.

Even a shitpost anime needs to have a shred of coherence that ties everything together. The whole conclusion to Stocking becoming a devil feels so jam fisted in the very last minute (come on Imaishi, you guys had whole 15 years to come up with a good explanation, not some dumb asspull).

This continuation to such a cliffhanger from 15 years ago feels lackluster and driven by nothing else but convenience and the need to reset everything to the old status quo (plus 2 demons). To an extent it felt as empty as Nokotan anime, though I'll have to admit even the first episode of Nokotan was legit funny, on the other hand nothing in this premiere felt funny or simply entertaining to me.
@Kimurah We meet again.
Idk that something like PSG really needs what you're asking for.
Now comedy is as subjective as it gets, but I appreciate how fresh this feels while still being PSG.

Did they change the English voice actors?? I dont know how to feel about it.. I've only ever watched the series in english and I recognize most of the VAs from other series that I watched in english like Fairy Tail, OHSHC, and Dangonronpa <3 so when I started watching the new season I noticed a difference in some of the voices. I particulary loved the VAs that play Kneesocks and Scanty and I immediately felt like they sounded like different people. But the voice that felt the MOST different was Panty's. Maybe I am crazy for noticing a difference but I don't want to feel like I'm the only one loll
@dan_drawin__ no no they def changed the Va's! I was so thrown off when I heard Panty's I almost died. The same goes for Stocking too, she's so high-pitched now! I read somewhere online that since Amazon picked up the anime a lot of the characters were recasted which kinda bummed me out. :((

The original PSG was non sensical but it had cohesion to tie up all the mayhem. This episode was just pure mayhem for the sake of it. Like I said, it feels a lot like Nokotan and if this is going to be the trend for the rest of the series I'm quite confident it will be a dud for a big part of the OG fans.

What's fresh about it? It's still a shitpost anime about sex. The huge difference it's that it's not 2010 anymore, sex gags and cursing isn't as impactful as it was back then.

The only thing I hate about this is that Crunchyroll has apparently gotten conservative to the point where they did not pick this season up, and thus we have an entirely new dub cast made under Amazon, which bums me out.

You have to understand that everybody who worked on dubbing S1 is now so far removed from ADR that even if CR did pick it up you'd maybe get one or two VAs reprising their roles. You also have to understand that Funi/CR isn't the same company it was 15 years ago. Modern Funi (if they hadn't gone under) wouldn't touch this show with a 20-foot pole.

DedPanda said:
of course they got recast considering their modern day views on things

Production probably wanted to avoid needless drama as well

Seeing as how this got picked up by Amazon and Monica/Jamie work for CR I doubt it has anything to do with their politics. That being said it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if both Monica and Jamie have been trying to distance themselves from this particular IP in recent years.

theres nothing to really say, the bitches are back im gonna rewatch this like 5 times. The animation feels like it's bigger and the jokes are in line if not as good but better, the characters are just as cool and plot is just as wacky. I love how it turns into a mega-kaiju fight and then into a normal panty and stocking fight. Panty not having her box and not being the same was hilarious. I think its totally unfair to write off the voice acting at this point because not only were and panty and stocking giant kaiju's and thus had different voices they barely had "typical dialogue" moments so theres no easy way to judge. from what I heard they all sound about right and the dialogue was translated in the right way its over the top and maximalist and totally wild. I loved the music. Just a stellar return.

Was panty and stocking buried when it came out? how was it initially received??? I can't believe it took this long to get a season 2. I guess Gainax going up was bad timing.

And thus, my love for anime has been reinvigorated. GOD this was so damn good.

Would've been nice if it didn't come out while my grandparents were staying over, though; I'd love it a whole lot more without 10% of the screen being taken up by the rapidly fluctuating volume bar.

Unreal that Panty and Stocking got a sequel, 15 fucking years later after that bombshell of a cliffhanger. The original is so dumb and can be repetitive, but it did have its charm that I'll go more into. But this episode has me feeling really conflicted in some ways.

The original looked fantastic, bombastic with such a unique feel and style to it for a Japanese anime, like a Powerpuff Girls animation on crack when watching it for the first time. This episode is 2025, but it really took me back to how it originally looked, having such charm with great visuals and making those big, absurd, stupid ass moments hit so well. The chaotic nature of its direction was wonderful and really took me back to why I loved Gainax/Trigger content for the most part (barring Evangelion) in the first place. It's frenetic, it's whimsical but it's got flavor, vision and is drunk in creativity, and Panty and Stocking really delivered on that times ten in 2010. And considering how much tamer Trigger and Imaishi's works have been in recent times over the past few years, this kind of craziness is what reminded me of that love and almost bias I had for Gainax and Trigger content. Seeing how the continuation took place after 15 years to that cliffhanger and have it be resolved in 1 episode in such a Panty and Stocking way is a hit. This kind of humor definitely was more of a shocker for 2010 and fit that vibes more than 2025, but as a nostalgia trip, this is wonderful.

But with how much I loved this, this also frustrated the hell out of me. What made me really love this to new heights were not just the visuals and flair, but the original dub and how they were acted and scripted with so much soul put into the craziness of everything. But this being recast with all new actors/actresses feels sad and underwhelming to me, and that translated in the dub performances themselves. They tried to replicate the original style's scripting, but it felt very hollow and the lines were just nowhere near as charming and wacky as the original's, and the acting felt hollow too. Knowing that this was a show returning after so long and how much the dub cooks and is a major appeal about the show, I wish Amazon and the people involved with producing the dub gave it the actual justice it deserved with this sequel, this part feels like such a missed opportunity. I can only imagine that with at least most of the original crew or with Panty and Stocking's dub VAs, this could have truly been magic. Sure I could check the Japanese version since the VAs are consistent there, but that's not the version and the scripting that charmed me, its the English dub.

So yeah, I would say this was mostly solid with what was originally produced, but as someone biased about the original dub, this was also a bit sad in a way. At least the main content itself is still mostly a hit and fits well with what was originally released, even after such a long gap.

The original english dub of Panty And Stocking is widely considered to be one of the greatest of all time, one of the few rare cases where the script writers and voice actors actually significantly improved upon the japanese dub. But the anime dubbing industry back in 2010 was very different than it is now in 2025 so there were major concerns over these changes potentially having a severe negative impact on how the second season's dub would turn out. So far however, whilst I have mixed feelings, I am definitely feeling on the more optimistic side.

On one hand replacing all the original actors was an absolutely braindead move given how iconic their performances were. I mean I think the new actors will probably do a good job, at the very least quality wise it's already pretty obvious this is a union actor dub rather than a non-union actor dub (the later type of actor usually leaves to become the prior type of actor once they're skilled enough to compete in that scene since it pays more so union dubs tend to have better acting), so far garterbelt and brief in particular seem to be doing a good job, and whilst the other actors haven't been given much to work with yet to judge how they're performing, at the very least I know silverstein and venezuela always give good performances. Though it's still super disappointing such an iconic cast is not reprising their roles, can't stress that enough, definitely puts a damper on my excitement about this returning.

On the other hand however I'm very pleasantly surprised at how well the script turned out. There's a lot of pretty awful localizers in the modern anime dubbing industry who don't know to make english dialog flow well, and who also tend to have pretty severely mentally ill political beliefs and thus are the kind of people would have absolutely loved the unique opportunity of being able to get their hands on such an unusually irreverent anime and just absolutely eviscerate the show's script to be politically correct and virtue signal in order to stick it to the anime fans who would enjoy a show like this, so it was awesome to see that the producers seemingly kept those sorts of awful localizers far away, and that the script both flowed well and was actually faithful to the original intention of the japanese script.

Now, stepping away from how the dub is turning out and moving onto the show's actual core writing, I think they handled continuing from the first season's stupid ending decently well (they could have easily botched the way they continued off it), and past that this definitely feels like the exact same Panty and Stocking we left off with all those years ago like it's created by the exact same people (to be fair to some degree it is lol). The charm is all there (from the stylish animation all the way to the expletive filled dialog) and it still had the occasional funny moment. It's not quite at the quality level of the first season, but it's only the first episode and they had to spend a lot of time doing setup in this first episode for the rest of the season. I think the second episode will give us a far better look into how the rest of the season will play out. I'd be surprised if the animation doesn't end up actually being better than the first's (due to the original's restrictive budget), and I think anime comedy has gotten better over the years so who knows there's a chance it could end up being funnier than the first (which by anime standards was standards was funnier than the vast majority of anime, but still not at like Saiki K levels of funny where it can compete laugh for laugh with american comedy).

Now all this isn't to say that the writing can't still end up falling short, and the english dub's script localizing / voice acting could end up falling short too, frankly it's way too early to tell, and as mentioned I am indeed disappointed with the original cast being replaced, but in many ways this really does feel just like the same panty and stocking from before so I'm fairly optimistic about how things will turn out. If I had to guess I think the show's going to end up being an 8/10 and it's going to have an above average dub, though overall in both those areas it will fall moderately short of the original (though there's still a chance it's as good as before and smaller chance it's somehow better). I tend to watch anime subbed but I'll definitely still be watching this one dubbed and I think that might still end up being the better way to watch this show like last time.

What an awesometacular comeback, stocking got brain washed into becoming the demon and killing panty into 666 pieces and got even more brainwashed to become a large monster and then briefs and garterbelt reassembled her but a piece was missing making her very chaste and virginal because that piece was her vagina that the green dog thing ate and garterbelt oured some demon liquid on her to make her giant, briefs and garterbelt with Scanty and kneesocks carried it like a Mikoshi to the giant shy panty and she transforms to a giant version of her natural self to fight the malificent stocking they had a "bitch fight" and they garterbelt breaks it up and they make up and invite Scanty and kneesocks to live with them. Also spider-man homecoming reference.

I'm so damn happy to see this anime getting a second season! Like another user said, the new season doesn’t even feel like a spin-off, it picks up exactly where episode 13 left off. Gotta be the most epic first episodes I watched this season and that's hard to say cause there are a lot of good shows out this summer season. Though I do feel a bit sad that the voice actresses for Panty and Stocking have changed, but honestly, it was expected, it’s been 15 years after all. And just like the first season imma buy the blu-ray DVD for it that just how iconic it is, I gotta have a physical copy of it. ^_^
