Amazing, best episode of the show so far. I wasn't sure how they could top the last one, but this one did it.

They definitely backloaded the budget for this show, because the animation in this one was fantastic. Compare this to the early ones and it's on another level.

I love the parody of a typical Saturday morning anime, but everything is just twisted. I LOVE how they just killed off the main heroes after going through all that to rescue them, then they killed all the henchmen, and they left the town in complete ruin that'll crumble without a ruler. I didn't see any of this coming, which makes it so much more enjoyable. Talk about subversion of tropes!

I think this was the first stop we've seen where they didn't contact Zenjiro.

The show got a bit iffy for a bit with the main characters acting uncharacteristically stupid, but the past 2 episodes have been fantastic. I hope they stick the landing in the last third.

The stations seem to have some connections to Yoka's memories and desires, making what her mind had come to reality when she pressed the 7G button... It might've corrupted her to some degree as well and turned Ikebukuro into a dangerous mess after she took over as it's Queen.

Wonder what became of her after the 7G incident? Hope they shed some light next episode in her POV
@Shirowhite01 Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this was the only station that had any direct connection to Yoka.

I mean, you could potentially connect the rest to her (she likes animals? she wanted to become a mushroom and give up on life, she had a bad encounter with a goat, she wanted to rain golf balls, she played with mini action figures...?), but in the story so far, no connection.

I though this was the weakest of the last 3 episodes or so. Very good creativity, but the high number of characters and abilities made it too chaotic, shogi organized it a bit, but it was still too much. They added more than 10 new character types it feels like with only a few seconds for each unless you're pausing.
@watsym I mean, you didn't really need to know who the characters are. The main bad guy Chaos, his henchmen, the grunts, then the good guys trying to protect the pig townsfolk. Stereotypical shonen/children's cartoon stuff.

This one wins as the most crazy and random ass episode so far, I didn't understood much, but damn I loved it.
I legit wanna see a spin-off or something about that weird show lol
I wanna marry Nadeshiko so badly, and not because of the little fanservice they did with her, I legit like her she is amazing.

Pretty sure a circle indicates no life intelligent enough to communicate with, while squares and diamonds indicate there is someone they can talk to. Not sure what the difference between square and diamond is. Both of the diamonds have been hostile... although the mushroom people at Higashi-Agano also ended up being hostile. Also, the map-maker seemingly hasn't met the queen of the zombies, or figured he couldn't draw a square for one person.

I kind of like the fast pace of this anime, but it feels like this episode cranked the pace way higher than usual. In one episode, they've discovered a town that's turned into the setting of NeriAli, tried and failed to revive the protagonists, defeated the villains, and left the town a leaderless mess.

Heavy Alice in Wonderland and Jabberwocky poem vibes this episode. Also unexpectedly suddenly this start reminding me of a heavy dose of Ergo Proxy if that were a much less slow and bleak, grey anime and instead a bright frenetic ADHD-riddled CGDCT one. Specifically from the second half of the series when they're aboard the Rabbit (Centzon Totochtin) and during a certain stretch of episodes visiting progressively crazier and more unpredictable self-contained domes.

At first upon watching it it was nearly indecipherable for me with some of the nonsense language and actions for large stretches and I thought it was perhaps one of, if not the single strangest episode of anime I've ever watched. Upon rewatching, in retrospect I don't think it was quite that extreme and strange to earn that distinction and I understood a lot more - most, if not all, of it. But that was just my initial impression and honest feelings and reaction. It makes more sense upon a little reflection and context when you're not initially just inundated and overwhelmed with seeming nonsensical actions and gibberish. Very frantic and creative though. Kind of like the embodiment or a good representation of if a board game did come to life (this is technically about an anime or an anime-within-an-anime/show-within-a-show come to life, but that anime-within-an-anime itself is actually the world inside a board game).

Either way, apart from all that, another thing I enjoyed in this episode were the brief (too quick, actually) passages through the earlier stations in that it was nice to see characters affected by this brainwave phenomenon which supposedly warped space, people's perceptions and memories, and physics itself, instead of turning into other creatures like non-human animals (in Agano), mushroom-puppets, golf balls, shrunken miniature people, zombies, anime characters, etc., and have a more abstract purely restricted to mental reaction like with the flashes of guilt. It gives a slight taste of what must have happened to those who have had their minds warped and consciousness, memories, and personality rewritten.

I'd definitely revise and take back what I said though much earlier in the season and series' run about this show feeling like Tengoku Daimakyou or Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou. It definitely doesn't in a fundamental way. The closest thing to it for me is Humanity Has Declined.

Was anything in this episode a reference to something that actually exists, or was everything out of the writers' heads? The "Tokorozawa-zawa!" chant for instance felt like it has to be alluding to something and I just don't know what (beyond the fact there is such a city).
@off-season They are in tokorozawa, on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line, its a pretty big city and I been there several times and going on date with gf there sunday so thought it was funny. It does have the first airforce base and a museum there there is also massive anime musuem so thought it would be funny if they have anything about the show there.

This episode was really crazy and weird, and we got some fanservice. It was confirmed that Yoka is the queen, and it makes sense since several cities they visited seem to have been altered by things related to Yoka. However, the part that confused me the most was the possible flashbacks of the girls, like Nadeko's father abandoning her or Akira and Reimi killing someone or something.

@HyperlinkBlocked What Nadeshiko has said in that little speech of hers apply to all the girls, and im pretty sure will have an impact on how Shizuru is going to handle Youka.
@Swagernator Yeah, I don't really consider a general "Don't worry about what you could have done" "connecting" to their trauma. They dropped some real bombshells on us here, and this demands more than a generic speech to explore at this point.

Really liked this and the last episode, Tsutomu Mizushima really starting to lean into his weird brand of comedy that makes stuff like Dokuro-chan and Mayoiga highly entertaining to watch even if they're generally uneven shows overall. I do recall him posting on twitter that from episode 4 onwards the show would grow weirder and can't wait to see what comes next.

- Station where past regrets mind-rape you -> only 15 seconds of screen-time.
- Station where everything is a wacky Alice in Wonderland x Precure parody -> practically a whole episode of screen-time.

Yeah... not gonna lie, the "past regrets" station deserved its own episode. Just imagine the drama and potential character development for all the girls...

Still a highly entertaining episode tho. I have no idea what the creator smoked while writing this but I can tell it sure was from a good batch.

A bit hard to follow when you step in unprepared, I will rewatch this for sure.
the recent stations were all a big nightmare, although the one with Zombies was no real danger.
Ikeburo might be the most normal station or the reincarnation of Event Horizon.

Funny that they created a weird anime as reference for this episode and made it super weird

What I’m getting from this is that Shizuru may very well be (partially) responsible for the state of this world. I theorise that the reason all of the towns became so far apart is because Youka viewed the distance between her (in Ikebukuro) and her friends (in their hometown) as akin to the gap between stars, hence the insane spatial distortion. I think that 7G turned Youka’s metaphorical interpretations (specifically, their relationship) into physical realities. She left the train line intact because deep down, she hopes that there is still a way to reunite with her friends even if it’s infinitely far away.

It feels too dismissive to be calling this episode "random," but I don't have an adjective off the top of my head that better qualifies my feelings while (and after) watching it; though, I guess I could also mention the weird eeriness that I felt in many of the scenes involving the villains.

I can't wait to see what is up with Yoka-hime. I wasn't very surprised to hear that she's some kind of major player, I kind of expected that (I'm sure there's a page on tvtropes for that). Can't wait to see what's next!

By now, it’s no surprise that Youka is the mastermind. While the first couple flashbacks showed some nice childhood memories, the more recent ones have shown some creepy stuff.

As for the pig dudes, it's unfortunate. They were left leaderless just when they had a glimmer of hope for a new leader. Lmaooo.

why not focus on the regret/flashbacks at the beginning of the episode or the body dysphoria that must come from not being a human anymore? Maybe I sound like an elitist but this anime had potential for so much more

LMAOOOO bro WTFFFF did I just watch man this gotta be the most confusing and most random episode so far from this show man I love it, from the beginning of this episode they already confused me with the whole Alice show and the amount of words that was on my screen left me looking like this >😵‍💫 hahaha nonetheless tho great episode I love how chaotic this show is one on my favs to watch on mondays🔥🔥🔥

Looks like Yoka is alive which is good but it looks like she’s become an evil witch with the ability to take over the world which is surprising but I guess it shouldn’t be that surprising considering she was the first and only person to push the 7G button and launch the world into chaos I hope she isn’t too evil but something tells me it’s not gonna be easy to get her back🙁

Now that we got all that out of the way now we can talk about the best part of this episode……………THE NADEKO FANSERVICE WE GOT IN THIS EPISODE WAS FUCKING UNEXPECTED I LOVED IT SO MUCH SHES THE FINEST GIRL OUT OF EVERYONE IN THIS SHOW like I was NOT expecting her to wear a mini skirt and crop top + she’s so goddamn stacked like why did the animator make her so fine for? I hope we get more of these fanservice moments in future episode (let’s hope we get Yoka fanservice as well👀)😩😫😩😫😫😫😫

@stevejawbs Looking upon the map, what the girls encountered throughout the journey and flashbacks of Shizuru with Yoka i think all of them have direct connection with Yoka and Shizuru because they shared with each other what they like and what their dreams are about.

Yoka does in fact love animals and anime for girls, Shizuru has a bunch of "want-to-do's" Like eating a bunch of mushrooms. Yoka also like space and science so we got starry skies and even floating organs etc.

Tldr: It's a mix of Yoka and Shizuru's memories, dreams, and desires. And Yoka is like the administrator of that world she can manifest anything she desires.

An itchy contraption, and survivor's guilt conscience nightmare fuel ruptures the girls...what the hell's going on!?

Anything goes from the effect of 7G, and everything's like a video game from the manga/anime series Alice in Nerima Land franchise, though that does fickle Shizuku a bit. And into a town where NeriAli is brought to life with Chaos taking over a magical land where they rule, and nothing but the death sentence awaits them if they try to retaliate, which they do so while following the plot of the show for escape getaways. It's just hectic strategies left and right saving the heroes and getting almost chimed in, and the girls getting cosplayed to the actual Darkzumite heroes to truly unravel the literate chaos in a huge cemetary, but stlll following the rules of Shogi enough that they have a fighting chance to stop Chaos, his right-hand men and the lots of Walker minions as pawns.

And then the reveal: the Witch Queen of Ikebukuro, Yoka, of which Chaos escaped to report the cause. Absolutely no chance to lead the piglets, the girls have to move on, now knowing that NeriAli's setting changed somehow, no thanks to the 7G incident.

At least we have a lead on where Yoka is now...

The beginning was some crazy fan service opening scene turned battle scar mental trauma.

This episode hurt my brain, they arrive at a station that seemingly looked like a night festival but deep down it was a cult of walkers and shogi pieces with many pigs in hiding including an idol Alice, the person they held memorial tombstone for in the festival square. In they end the dog exposes that Youka is the queen, what a surprise - the one person that pressed the button became the ruler.
