I didn't want this to end... yet here we are.

Good to see that the wedding was a major success. The fact that the wedding planner was moved to tears says it all on how good it was. That was a big operation though, seeing the whole staff of the aquarium work on the dome.

Now, we actually had one last trip into the supernatural before the season properly ended and Kukuru was united with her family for a final time.

Fuuka goes on her study trip for two years and by the time she returned, things have changed. Kukuru has evolved to a Nekton and is doing both marketing and attendant work, while Akari got hired fulltime as Kukuru's junior and damn Takeshita-sensei pregnant again???

Everything ended on a really positive note and I am all for it.

I have to face the fact that this coming of age story had quite a few ups and down in it's story. I really loved the first half a lot with all the supernatural trips happening, but with the second half slightly missing it's mark and totally forgetting about the supernatural bits had me a little annoyed. Glad they did end on it though.

After seeing Sakura Quest, I had high hopes for this Anime and honestly it did not disappoint. Visually it's fantastic and I honestly couldn't get enough of all the gorgeous aquarium tanks. A pretty good show and one I will dearly miss on my Thursdays.

Everything just felt organic, as I watched a episode it felt like I was watching my own life being put into action. The wagie is no joke and them wagie friends are also very real. But damn Working at a aquarium seems like a fucking hassle. I was hoping for some gey love between the gals, but you know what? friendships are also very awesome. Damn feels so unreal that I no longer will have a wagie aquarium to go to now..

Behold of my awesomeness~

What I learned this episode? Penguins be fuckin lmao.

Well pretty good finale. Back in the first half of this show I wouldn't have expected the mystery with the little red dude to just not get brought up at all, but I think I prefer how it wasn't tbh.

Second half of this show was definitely more controversial. Overall I'm pretty happy with how everything went down. The more I think about it the more I think marketing was the perfect position for Kukuru and it makes a lot of sense why she was put in that position in the first place. Her boss is kind of a dick, but honestly if he just didn't use that stupid fucking nickname I wouldn't have a problem with it. That's crossing a line of harassment that should be unacceptable in any professional workplace (unless it was an inside joke or some bs), but whatever. Anime shit.

Good finale to cap a good series. I will miss this one. The series had its ups and downs but ultimately it was a great ride. I really did have a connection to Fuuka and Kukuru who to me were the stars of the show. Good stuff and very relatable.

The foils in Chiyu and Suwa also added to the plot and I could certainly relate to their difficult natures. Thankfully though Chiyu did soften up so she was a very well rounded character. Couldn't say the same for Suwa unfortunately who just seemed a little too stiff and unapproachable for my liking.

The sea life was great and the penguins amusing and with some nice beats and good animation this had a bit of everything.

Great first half with Gama Gama, second half with Tingaara left a lot to be desired especially with how Kukuru turned out

Seeing everyone on their preferred career paths really gave a warm fuzzy feeling that everything's worked out at the end as long as they tried hard, except Kukuru going the corporate route

And what happened to Ban the lost baby penguin anyway?

What a sweet show this ended up being, I seriously loved it so much. They did such a good job of making me care about every individual of what was quite a large cast, and seeing them all slighty ages up at the end is nice. Even though the idea that this entire friend group has all just started working at the aquirium is a little silly, but it's also sweet!
LOL, your opinion is wrong!

This anime is ultimate "copium" in many ways, but I'll give it a good score for the sensitivity to details and good character dynamics. It has good lessons on human relations and dealing with life issues. However, a lot of plot points are loose, and the paranormal aspects were very underwhelming and a weird addition that seems like a last minute spice on the script (though I really liked how they finished it off with the dialogue between Fuuka and Kukuru - what made Gama Gama "magic" wasn't the location, but people's true love for the aquarium, something that Tingaara ended up achieving as well). Not to mention how the anime, at points, endorses conformity to hostile/toxic environments, though it's more in touch with reality than a caricature and at least provided some arguments for why trying to work hard to earn peoples' respect could change your work environment for the better.

The wedding was beautiful and it was a good way to start the episode. I think the series ended very nicely but the 2 year fast forwarding at the end could have been better if there is an extra episode. Some screentime on the welcoming party would have been delightful to watch and I’m happy to hear Kukuru has the potential to be a future director if she keeps persisting in her work.

So, Tsukumin is a chef at Tingarla (didn’t expect it) and there are various position changes with new chiefs nowπŸ˜ƒ It is nice to see them making changes to Kukuru, Fuuka, and Kaoru’s hair too to signify the time lapse.

The show did well without a heavy romance plot even though they could have made several official couples at the end which fans would appreciate.

Okay, so Suwa smiled like twice in the same ep, so now people can stfu about him being this and that. I actually find endearing he keeps nicknaming Kukuru even after two years lol it really comes across as a term of endearment by then. I didn't expect them to have the time skip, but I sure was surprised Kukuru was doing two jobs at the same time and not whining about it!!!

Oh yeah, not sure If this applies to sea fish, but apparently you have to let goldfish acclimate first before dumping them into a new tank (to reduce stress as much as possible). So I couldn't help but wonder If that shit was okay when everyone was manhandling the poor fish lol

F for Kai, tho. Seriously why did they do my mans like that. But yeah overall not one of my favorite shows for sure. Is bland to the core except for the consistent animation and the animals. The characters are extremely superficial, minus some exceptions, and everything ends up revolving around Fuuka and Kukuru to the point is just boring (not bad If that's what you like, is just... You have all those other characters that could add to the story and they barely touch them except for a few here and there details. In the end they are decorations to the Kukuru and Fuuka bs).

Suwa is still the shit tho LOL

Also the most ridiculous thing that everyone ignores is that a potential superstar actor gave up her career to go to a minimum wage job.

That probably never happened in human history.

Well, remember Fuuka only ever quit because they started to pressure her to be less bland despite being the main idol/being close to the center. She is a quitter by nature and a doormat of sorts. She ran away because "uhh but hard : (((" and ditched her dream in favor of instant (and easier) gratification (also used her annoying underling to do it).

Is not bad to have a change of heart when you pick something you classify as your dream, but Fuuka's situation I found frustrating because of this thing I'm mentioning. It was like she never really grew in the end (got another chance to pursue her "dream" and she ditches it because kukuru or some crap. Then she starts to stalk her and the show paints it as cute).

Kukuru, however, did grow tf up and I can't bitch about her nearly as much.

Just gonna rant off here, now that these lackluster display of a glass flower is now done.

I made the poor decision early on to ever hold any high hope for this series and PA Works in general. Seems like the studio stopped producing anything competent after 2016 despite how generally nice and consistent the pretty designs and aesthetics are.

The whole premise with chasing one's dreams and supporting another's (with some decent LGBT coding in it that would've made for nice endearing development) was genuinely a nice hook and all, but after the Gama Gama arc, everything just seemed to meander around uselessly.

I think the show played shit too safe, and contrary to what many people think, playing it safe doesn't mean the show is good or even decent/average, it's still just poor writing and will be criticized all the same like on the flipside with shows that get too ambitious.

I don't think this show ever knew what it truly wanted to do. Was it trying to be more like Bloom Into You? Was it trying to be more like Hanasaku Iroha? Was it trying to something of both with some fluffy coming-of-age pretense? Cause it failed to be any of those. Contrary to what many people here may think, I think the characters and their respective journeys were the weakest parts of the show. For all the focus it had on them, it never really seem to develop them properly and in a very cohesive and practical manner. I'm not gonna say I'm very experienced in the workplace, but I'm sure as hell that silly stuff like that doesn't happen that conveniently IRL, and even if stuff like that does happen, not like rigged like with here, especially with the absurd bit regarding Chiyu where they essentially did a hell of a copout by having her beefing with Kukuru being because....she's a stressed working mom. Great. SMFH.

To say that the character drama here is better than in 86 and Mushoku Tensei is befuddling and laughable to me, cause there's no weight, there's not enough establishing, there's not enough good dynamics between them, not even with the two leads. Then again, different examples click for different people, I guess.

The dramatic segments involving Kukuru were redundant and Kukuru being there just be the former's beginning and end is just sad. Perhaps the series could've fared better by focusing on developing their relationship, intimate or not, instead of one silly contrivance after another.

Yes there was some nice nuances with visual metaphors like the dying fish, the matching penguin tags, and the lonely baby dolphin. But do they matter much at all in the long stretch when the plot can't really save itself? Not really.

The timeskip to end the last episode didn't help. Not enough payoff, not enough gratification. Just felt lightweight and too much of a smooth and easy way out. Hell they never even explained enough, if not all, regarding those aquarium hallucinations and that weird Jungle Book-looking ass kid eating the offerings every now and then. I kept waiting and waiting around for something interesting to happen but got essentially nothing after all that. I will likely forget about this in due time. If there was any notable positive from this series, it's that it gave me the slight incentive to visit Okinawa one day in the near future.

Ah, the ride is finally over.

Overall, it was an OK show. I feel like the second cour was more interesting, but I also didn't enjoy the second cour as much, just because I feel like it didn't build anything off form the first cour. I thought they were setting a lot of things up in the first cour (Kukuru's dead sister, the supernatural effect at GamaGama, the mysterious Kijimunaa), but none of these things were really addressed in second cour (other than hastily brought up in the final episode).

I will give a lot of credit to PA Works though. To do a 2 cour anime original in 2021 at a such high quality animation is amazing. Kudos to those animators.

The wedding, if my reading skills are right, happened on March 19th, 2023. cool. so it seems like series began in 2021, and ended in about 2025. Would've thought Kukuru's grandparents would've died by now, but somehow they didn't. What a surprise lol

The extra timeskip wasn't necessary honestly, but ig it's a way to end. Generally liked the series from start to end, and transition to a more soothing anime was nice. Not much else to say, but happy to spend every week watching this

To be fair a lot of people see Chiyu's stance as being a single stressed mom that's just lashing out on poor Kukuru as a replica of Suwa being a douche just because he messed up in his previous job as a chief. It's actually a lot more branched out, because Chiyu was jealous on most of the "kids" at the GamaGama had a dream job of working in an aquarium with very little actual school knowledge, while she had to work her ass off to get her credentials while working as a single parent balancing her education and job (this is in cour 1). She didn't have a beef particularly with Kukuru, she felt jealous of all the Gama Gama staff (she manifested this discomfort on a casual talk with Kaoru), the issue was that Kukuru was the loud one and took everything she said at face value (this is on cour2). And she's really not wrong that these kids had a priviliged time in a dream job, since the show rewards once again the lack of knowledge by sending Fuuka a former idol with very little actual experience and knowledge on sea life to a job that required an specialist (she pretty much took the spot of someone else like Higa with proper credentials)

I pretty much see Chiyu's role as a non comedic story similar to Frank Grimes & Homer Simpson's relationship.

Beautiful episode to cap off this beautiful show. This show has been a consistently nice part of my life the last 6 months, it was always a relaxing and calming experience after every episode, especially after a stressful week. There's definitely some aspects the show could have done better, but it was still a great and super enjoyable experience.

The timeskip was really nice, timeskip Kukuru looks awesome and that hug between Fuuka and Kukuru was just heartwarming, hngh. It's nice to see everyone at the end, but just a lot of Fs in chat for Kai as always though lmao.

Loved the show, and I am gonna miss the characters. 8/10

Ah, that was a great finale. The production values were solid up until the end. The art was never anything less than beautiful. The sequences in this final episode were really great as well. The music, shot composition, and dialogue all came together to create quite the beautiful episode.

The story was not at all perfect, but I enjoyed 80-90% of it, even the second part. They did tease us with that supernatural creature thing and never resolved it, but I kind of prefer it this way. In fact, I think that creature was a bit unnecessary. The supernatural part was never the primary draw for me, although it was great to see Kukuru's entire family at the end there. Still confused (or maybe was not paying enough attention), was that her older or younger sister? Or it doesn't really matter that much because they're twins I guess.

Especially loved the timeskip. We got to see how everyone progressed in 2 years. I guess Karin did not get the attendant position the first time around since she's just becoming one now. Great for her! Also, Kuuya seems totally fine with her and is now a chief even?! I kinda ship those two.

So Tsukimi ended up working at the Tingaarla kitchen! Nice.

Plankton no more, Nekton now lol

So Akari in the end took a full-time job at Tingaarla, great for her ^^ a nice secondary character

Was wondering who got sent with Fuuka in the end. Looks like it's that attendant whose name I can't seem to remember. Although I guess they did mention it last episode but I forgot lol

Ah, really loved that ending. Fuuka and Kukuru look great in their new hairstyles too! Didn't know that Fuuka's name is spelled 'wind flower' 钨花. That's a pretty name if I do say so myself!

I really really loved this series. P.A. Works did an amazing job. Wish we could still see more ;-; I'm gonna miss this show so much. A solid 9/10 from me!

I've been hooked into this anime ever since I saw two of my favorite voice actresses in it, & I'm definitely not disappointed. Aquatope is my favorite show of this season, and this makes me want to go to aquarium again someday. It helps that the characters are pretty likable, especially Kukuru who is so bubbly and cute, and she's voiced by my favorite voice actress Miku Itou. I have to admit that I prefer the first half over the second half, but there wasn't that much bad moments in this series. Lastly, I really enjoyed the finale, and I'm very happy that both Kukuru and Fuuka have gotten all along after all those glorious years.

I'm a PA works Stan so i kinda will love this despite it having a fair amount of issues and hasn't topped some of their best works i'm just glad we got another SoL from them

Aquatope had a strong first half in hopes of the story going places in the 2nd however it wasn't till the later half it got out of it's aimless direction and somewhat wrapping up all the subplots for it's characters it's been building towards(which a few of them didn't pan out into anything) F Kai.

it still overall made up for all it's chill relaxing vibes and moments of relatable troubles in work and life /likable cast of mostly adults even more so by the end

it continued to be one of my favorites of the summer-fall season not sure if it'd make my top 10 for the year but i'm sad to see it go regardless simply because i wanted more and i feel like they can do more !
8/10 biggest crime is that they didn't kiss why can't yall just commit to them being gay :/

also did Chiyu not show up despite seeing how everyone was doing 2 years later i swear i didn't see her

Every aspect of the show, characters, music, visuals, were above average. Yet the story itself was painfully mediocre. I'd love to see them do something similar to what was done with Hanasaku Iroha. A movie sequel with a more intimate look on a more limited cast to really flesh out an ending.
It's not a bad show at all, but it'll be very difficult to binge. I gave it a 7/10, but I'd give them a chance if they put out more.

A solid showing overall, i have a lot of time for shows that have less often used settings and approaches, a sort of edutainment kind of show and this was very much that. I wasn't a big fan of Kukuru initially but i had to say she grew on me a bit in the second half, the plot was much better in the first half but the characterization was much better in the 2nd. PA have had a rough couple of years so i'd say this anime is hopefully a sign of them going back to form. 8.

And that brings us to the end of the show. I was immediately drawn by the setting in an aquarium and that too in Okinawa but I quickly learned that it was different than what I initially had in mind. That's not to say that I didn't find it good though because the first half was pretty good. As for the second though, I've mixed feelings over it.

For one though, this was a pretty good finale episode. P.A. Works have a way of nailing such shows and this was another instance of that. Fuuka and Kukuru's reunion for 2 years was touching and it's nice to see their mature character designs. Tsukimi-san as a cook for Tingara, Karin-chan as a caretaker and Kuuya-san growing up were lovely additions too.

Personally, I found the second half to be meh compared to the first but overall, I'll award this a 7/10. I'm looking forward to more P.A. Works originals.

That last episode was redeeming for the show, some conclusion in episode 23 were kind of bumpy, but this episode was beautiful.

I didn't expect myself tearing up at the beautiful wedding, so cute with the child in the penguin costume.

I loved the tropical atmosphere of Okinawa, such a beautiful scenery and the island flair was so desirably presented.
The theme of inside a public aquarium attraction was somewhat new and I like sea life a lot in general, so that was right up my alley.
Kukuru and Fuuka where a very good combination, their friendship was sweet and I really enjoyed that.

Fuuka is easily the best girl, that kind of personality really won me over in a flash.
After she fell in the pond at first it made me proud when she became a decent penguin attendant.
Kukuru was not a bad girl, but all over the place with a devastating backstory, sister dead, parents dead, that is too sad for one young person.
The other characters !Marina! were all very nice and interesting.

The shallow main antagonist Suwa was a lame addition to the cast, being an ass compared to everyone elseand instead of telling Kukuru to do a better job,
he only broke her little work spirit for no special reason, it was not even property explained why he is that way,
I don't buy the little excuse of a backstory from the last episode. That also leads to the biggest flaw of this show.
"Kukuru doesn't fit into the marketing position" drama could have been solved within six episodes and opened spots for other aspects of this most of the time beautiful anime.

OP, ED and the OST were all very nice

Whao, what a disappointment, I really hoped for something from this show but it ended with nothing good about it.

I can just stay with my boy Kai and the best girl Tsukimi, also the part about the ocean pollution (and it was just on the last eps), extinction of species and the aquarium stuff.

I cant really understand how ppl can like something this empty, but tastes are as diverse as the creatures in the sea.

I just lol when Kukuru, after 24 eps, goes with her gramps and ask him something like "what should I do?" man, after all the sh*t she did and saying that she was ok, she knew what she had to do and stuff like that, I just realized I wasted my time hoping for something from this show, and gramps answer was great tbh.

Gotta turn on the drop sense next time.

My 172nd completed series chronologically.

For the record, I extended it a 7/10 rating.

I give this anime two scores... a high 9/10 for the first 12 episodes. And a very generous 3/10 for the second half. First half of the show has mystery with the magical visions that people see, the mysterious boy, and Fuuka being the mostly the focus + attempts to save Gama Gama. Second half is just a business show and Kukuru drama which is so boorrring... glad I did not pre-order anything in this show, as it would be entirely a waste of precious money.

Strange how much it felt like i was back watching Sakura Quest again, that same feeling of this is great but then it just slowly feels more and more bland and mediocre.

Scoring it 7/10 feels slightly to low but then again scoring it 8/10 feels to high :|

oh gosh! i thought Kukuru & Fuuka would kiss after they hugged! lolz yuri vibes!
Kukuru is not anymore Plankton, she's now Nekton! bwahahah!
i thought it would be a long time skip...i guess it was 1 or 2 year skip only?
5/5.
8/10.
