I was in the gym watching this and I worked a big sweat XD. I was on the bike and I was pedaling so fast when Shin was fighting the morpho. This episode was such a huge payoff of all the build up in previous episodes. Loved it!!

There will be survivors other than Shin and Freddy, right!?

Although the Frederica-Kiriya stuff wasn't that emotional for me at all, rest of this episode was very good and looked pretty decent again with the action everywhere and ended on a pretty great cliffhanger for the final 2 episodes to deliver in March. When 86 is focused on its action and the production efforts are more than there, it can definitely deliver some more than positive results, and it did here. Sound design really has been the most consistent aspect of this season and while it can be too loud and poorly mixed with the music at times, it's still generally distinctive and really good.

Not the greatest episode of all time or a masterpiece by any means, but a fairly entertaining episode for the most part and did its job well. Not much to fault with A-1 here. Shame that the delay's a thing now for the next 3 months but the series will pick itself back up with the intensity in the next episode anyway. 2nd best episode of this cour for me, first being Ep 5. I'll take episodes like these that are filled with energy and stuff to get pumped up over compared to the lifeless ones that most of this cour had that didn't have interesting enough characterization or interactions going down there.
I love the fact how you give your opinion on a episode so critically and at the same time not completely bashing said anime you are watching, I’ve been seeing your comments for a while now and I must say, they are quite nice to read.

My opinions do change fairly easily over time given circumstances and I don't really post critical analysis of problems all the time with some episodes basically just not resonating with me well enough more than anything, which is a completely subjective feeling, but I try to give thoughts in a way that doesn't just eviscerate shows without praising their obvious positives. Glad you find them pleasant to read through whenever though.

Sad scene, Kiri was so eager to see Frederica and all Frederica sense is Kiri's misunderstood rage and force to let Kiri go. I had wonder if they will come to a reunion resolution if there's patience, but lack of communication channel is the problem.

Guess the main finale is done, the next 2 episodes likely be just damage assessment, summary and hints for S2 with Major's side end, this Part.2 is satisfying overall.

This episode was very compacted. There were fighting, action, drama, the past and sounding was also perfect(I really love 'Hands up to the sky' by Hiroyuki Sawano). Seeing brave Federica keeps me wonder what would happen next. Shin heard some voice very familiar and that made me felt exciting. For the next episode, Shin, I think it will focus on shin's thoughts and I hope it will have some Lena's scenes as well. Alright, this epic episode was 10 out of 10.

So glad Kiriya is finally gone. He has been nothing but an annoying edgelord since the moment he was introduced.

Again, another "good" episode when it comes to action but still a rather weak one in terms of writing. The continuous use of the old "go on without me" trope to have Shinei fighting Kiriya alone was kinda lame and though I knew Frederica would be relevant in this confrontation, I still disliked how she was used only to make too-angry-to-die Kiriya drop his guard. Not to mention I also have my doubts about Shinei's companions actually being dead (except for Raiden who literally took a cannon blast to the face) but unfortunately, I will have to wait until March to find out.

P.S.: So Shinei's plot armour is now called "Lena", huh?

It was sad but finally it was a good episode, because this second part of the anime was only having bad episodes so far. The battle that took place was very well done and I hope that Raiden is doing well, as well as the others in the group. I'm curious to know what happened to Shinei since it's impossible that he left without major damage from that explosion that took place.

superb episode, terrible cliffhanger.

i can already imagine by the time the last 2 episode air, a big number of people from anime-only faction have converted to novel reader too XD. (at least for this series, and for exactly what happen next)

unpopular opinion tho, while not really as touching as shin killing his brother, the scene Frederica imagines about the Nouzens all serves her and have interact with each other is quite heartbreaking too. the man is really dedicated but doesnt get rewarded, instead become and later died as vengeful Legion metal knight. Thats sad.

No, sorry the build up in this episode was seriously bad, I'm speechless that they had no better idea than reducing the group every five minutes with the good old "go on without me" line. That was a very bad move, to make Shin face Kyrie alone, but the final battle wasn't that bad.

This was my big complaint. The fight itself was cool, but I couldn't take it seriously after the cliche dropping off one by one. So abruptly too. Felt videogame level contrived. Also the continued feeling that everything is twisted to force Frederica to be important. It's enough to kill my emotional investment. Which is probably a good thing with the cliffhanger.

So the battle between Shin vs. Kiri/Morpho is finally over after Frederica forced herself on the battlefield to have one more heart to heart talk with her knight. Shin managed to get close to Kiri and destroy the housing unit that Kiri was connected too. The episode ended with Morpho self-destructing so we don't know who survived.

This is the most intense mission they have being all alone with only 5 people left

Now with only Shin left battling out Kiri It's so nice to witness how good Shin is again and how they fight it out

That cliffhanger gets me every time but this one is much more brutal as airing the show would be continued in March well we'll wait for it but sad that we have to wait till March.

At least someone agrees with my opinion :)
I guess most in this thread were looking at the action without caring how it turned into a 1:1 battle, it simply was not directed very well.

Kirye was mentally lost already, he barely reacted to Frederica , so it felt a bit silly to blow that scene out of proportion when there was so little she could do.
Firing the gun at the Morpho directly would have had the same effect in distracting him. Another thing I noticed now is, that that Shin asked for the weak point of the Morpho when he was fighting on his last leg already.

Would be a bit crazy to see the other 86 members magically return next time, but it would be more crazy to see them turning out to be dead without getting any emotional screentime.

You are neglacting the fact that they are seperated from main force and remaining Legion forces coming after them and they are also running out of time. So they have to to remain behind to distract them. It may felt little bit forced but it makes total sense to do so.

Kiri's anger grows towards Shin after seeing Fredrica , how it is "barely a reaction"?

To be honest the only person who could be legitimately contested for 'death' is Kurena given the circumstances. There's a very low chance Theo/Anju would be dead given their capabilities, and Raiden was already shown to have swerved out of the way of the railgun's shot.

1:1 battle

asking for weak point

Those are two statements that don't fit well together.

Shin facing his brother, the fight with the Morpho, even though they seem like 1:1 situations he was loaned external aid in some form to actually have accomplished it.

The buildup has already been established. If you don't like it then that's on you unfortunately. There have been people saying they don't care about Kiriya but they should at the very least observe him because Shin walks down a similar path, and with the Morpho downed he's going to be a very empty man.

86 always delivers a great amount of action, it truly shines in this aspect. I seriously loved the whole episode. The intense vibe it gave off was insane but the emotional part hit me half-half. But, after Shin shot down Frederica's knight the memories that popped up in Frederica's head got me sobbing for real. The sound design was beautiful and was that the first opening that they played during the action? The support that Shin got saved his ass though.

Man. In my 10 years of watching anime as it airs, and the 550-600 or so anime all time I've seen, this cliffhanger is by far the most brutal I've ever had to witness given the damned 3 month delay. The life of an anime only is not an easy one.

That said, spectacular episode, minus the obnoxious 'go on without me' trope. I get there was a concrete reason why they all had to stay behind, but given how much time and stock the anime put in the other episodes of how the 4 of them need Shin and don't want to leave him, and beat over his head over and over 'don't be a reckless idiot going it alone!', the execution of them all leaving him one by one felt extremely contrived, cheap and hypocritical. Again, I get the reasoning, but it was pretty annoying to see this trope play out again.

But that glaring issue aside, everything else was pretty great. I'm assuming maybe the lucky fire support was Lena, given I thought her voice came in static-y a bit? If that is the case though, the anime better have a damned fucking good explanation how she knew where Shin was, who he was fighting, when he was fighting, and how she knew it was Shin and was so acutely aware of the Federacy's plan that she knew how to intervene. Given she got 0 spotlight this season and the few glimpses of the Republic showed it utterly destroyed and not in communication with anyone else, the anime has a lot to explain, unless she became Legion somehow.

There's also the issue of the other 86's 'deaths.' I'm kind of conflicted here, because while I'd expect them to have plot armor, the anime had no qualms about various members dying last season and it would make sense for them to die here. I'm torn between wanting them to live because I like them and feel they could be developed more, and wanting them to die so their 'death scenes' don't feel cheap or set the expectation 'everyone will be fine in the end' with the anime going forward if it gets more seasons. Having them live might desensitize me to death in the anime, always expecting everyone to be ok, but having them die would be pretty sad since they were great to watch. And unless Shin stops being mopey and looking for a place to die, the novelty of his character is going to wear on me real quick if he doesn't change for the better after all this.

Props to Frederica as well for helping out. Not sure why she gets so much hate, she's not a bad character by any means, but I guess some people just can't stand lolis no matter how different from other ones Frederica might be. She has her childish moments sure, but is a lot more mature when it counts. Her scene with Shin at the end of last episode, episode 19, was very touching and well done, with her being the person to finally chip Shin's armor a little and finally giving us a glimpse behind the mask of Shin's stoic-ness, revealing his true fears, which makes him a lot more human.

So yeah, all and all fantastic episode minus some bits, but seriously worst cliffhanger ever given the 3 month delay. That's like maximum fucking cheating.

No I don't read manga. Why? Because according to MAL manga readers, all anime is either: too rushed, too slow, anime original, or a terrible adaption. I like to enjoy anime for what it is, anime.

Well, I will rewatch the episode again, maybe I didn't pay attention at the right moments. I based my opinion on the things I have seen and what I expected of such an episode.

Of course Shin had more or less helpful support in this "1:1" fight, but basically he had to finish Morpho alone. I like 86 a lot actually and don't think bad of it, but this episode wasn't convincing to me, after all the very good episodes before. ... and after the longer waiting time. Well I expected something different.

a 12/11 episode format is actually pretty daring for the story of 86, but so far the studio did a very good job even with a relatively fast pace.

only because I have posted my opinion of this episode more or less civilized, two users @Kalla_mig_Hobbe and @UserAnonymous117 posted this childish crap "╭∩╮(︶_︶)╭∩╮" on my profile as reaction, how nice.

Second best episode of the entire series so far

Kiri's motivation of fighting is almost the same as shin since both of them don't have any reason to live anymore or more like fighting is the only thing they could do as Frederica imagined shin and kiri might honestly be a good friend if all the things kiri experienced hadn't happen

And damn i need to wait march for the next episode 😩

I feel like there's a little error with Anju's para-raid at the end of her scene. Though, its just tiny, or am i trippin there. Yeah i already know it Frederica must be able to distract Kiri, especially when i realise the relation between her and Kiri really close before shit happened. Still, damn, girl, you really bold doing that! I am kinda wrong following Kiri motive to become Legion before. But its already clear enough, i'd say, here. Obviously the question to that 'another help' really big at these time. I believe its Lena voice on the back. But at the same time, its like main force of Federacy finally reaching their battlefield and hand in some good help. Or for the extreme, everyone else actually survived and able to lend the little help. But, to be honestly, i don't know. Not to mention there's needed a freakin 3 months for the next episodes, which is not helping enough to my curiosity. So, oh well, nevermind all of it then. Let me just move on.

1 episode only finished their last battle. Farewell Kiri. Let your beloved loli safe and healthy, with another good knight, from the Nouzen clan....

Simply amazing. Absolutely amazing.

But don't tell me everyone's dead... Shin can't die because he's probably a main character. But are the other four dead? I can't believe it if they are. Their deaths seemed like they were unreal. I hope that's because they were unreal.

When the artillery strikes and missiles came, goosebumps everywhere! Finally, the Major is here. We even got a glimpse of her voice shouting through the Para-RAID! I hope she'll be able to pull the 86ers out of this. I just can't accept that the other four might be dead. Shin too, I don't know what state he's in.

Ah, it's going to be a painful wait... but I'd rather have this than have the entire series ruined by bad final episodes. So I'll wait patiently to get the best that A-1 has to offer from this adaptation.

Feel this on the whole. There's a lot where you cna feel the love oif the animation studio. Story is a bit wanting for the level of art the studio put in.

This episode was incredible. But golly, it just had to end on a cliffhanger, didn't it? 😅

But when it's March I'll be back like the Terminator!~

Banger episode after banger episode this season. The cliffhanger was a nasty one, especially before such a long break. Not my problem, tho :P
