Is no one gonna talk about how Rebecca took advantage of sleeping Shiki and cut his hair without his consent? Just because she is bothered by someone's hairstyle doesn't mean she gets the free pass to cut them.

That's just wrong, Imagine what she would've done to Shiki if he cut her hair down like that.

Do you even knoq how much it hurts to loose hair that took so long too grow?

I don't like her for now, let's see if he can redeem herself from this somehow.

main girl's a sci-fi twitch streamer lmaoo fucking love that

this was a decent opening ep, we got to see how the 2 main characters meet and how they formed their "friendship" but other than that it was kinda eh. we only spent like 5 ? minutes with the bots so when they died i didnt feel anything, power of friendship shit is strong in this one but what did i expect from the creator of fairy tail lol. episode as a whole wasn't rly great, it wasn't awful too though.

Oh Shiki has no shame.

Honestly, this is exactly how I'd expect Edens Zero's first episode would be like with his debut. Rebecca's personality is also similar to Lucy and Happy...is well Happy. Thought the episode was kinda funny though with the character dialogues. Shiki is such a carefree guy that it's kinda hard to take me him seriously. I bet his VA enjoyed the character role.

On the more serious part, I'm curious how this show will handle the world building especially with the technology.

Otherwise, I'll keep my expectations low for now.

Not sure what to think of this really. The story seems quite unique but i'm not happy that they are using so many of the same characters of the fairytail.. Will have to wait and see if i will continue watching this.

I've been longing to say this, but this needs to be said: Edens Zero is Fairy Tail...IN SPACE. Hiro Mashima flexing his usual Fairy Tail antics here.

Don't kid yourselves, what you're seeing is real:
Shiki is Natsu, Rebecca is Lucy and Happy...is still Happy.

To enter as a visitor of a bot-infested kingdom, only to almost get killed, OK...the transition to space is expected though.

A surprising good start to Hiro Mashima's darker series, and a complete 1-to-1 with Chapter 1.

Oh wow, maybe because my expectations are kinda low, this first episode of Fairy Tail 2 is pretty good, emotional and all. I can already see a step above in Mashima's writing. Might follow this until the end.

Oh wow. One episode in, they already welcomed me with such a ton fanservices. A guilty pleasure show, i guess. Oh yeah, kinda like these one, no matter how weird the setting was. The list of casts already fulfilled with such a nice va's. Kugimiya Rie, Shiori, even Rebecca with Komatsu. Okay, I love this shit, really looking forward to the next episode.

I think i can left aside that shounen typical starter pack of Shiki great power introduction, and such a bizarre space setting (i mean, the space dragon, and the hell with that gigantic robot goddess thing, then the demon lord robot. Was him still alive or what? Also how could Rebecca said the place of Granbell was like a fantasy thing while your whole universes already like in a fantasy segments. Idk. She may forget the logic behind her statement, or, ah okay then, its a bit mind-blowing xd.).

In the end, well, this is such a fine premiere for me to chill and enjoy the Rebecca's appearance, only. I may a shounen-tard, and weak for those kind of design and direction. But whatever. I obviously need some refresher to let my brain healthy in these frustating rl world.

Oh, and one more, the bots twist somehow decent enough. Its caught my guard off. Okay reason, i think. Shiki really need to start his journey asap. Thats it all from me.

Typical Hiro Mashima with the same Fanservice..

It's good to see Familiar character again, Happy with same seiyuu Kugumiya Rie.

Nice introduction to the world..

Well Shiki might never knew the true motivation behind those robots action, that was sad.
I like that, well written story there.

Fairy Tail 2.0? Well, this was a great start. I haven't read the manga, which I wanted to, so I think I may enjoy this.

As some people have said, it would be hilarious if the voice actors from Fairy Tail did the voices of the characters.

I swear all girl pilots are always so sexy/beautiful. This series is also somewhat confusing b/c she called the flying cat "Happy" which looks exactly like Natus but neither of them are related whatsoever lol so yeah but still looks enjoyable

I was so happy to see Happy, I missed him.

Now it's “Rebecca kiiicku kiicku” XD

I remember I read the chapter 1 and dropped it right after cause I didn't like the different planets theme. But I will be anime only for this.

The robots acting evil so that Shiki doesn't get lonely and then them not working anymore was quite emotional.

Anyway, even though the theme is different everything else is really typical so I get some people not liking it, I too got bored. But I'll continue to watch because of the old shounen vibes. It gave me this nostalgic feeling.

Is there a reason Mashima wanted to reuse Happy without even modifying him even a little bit, down to the name in fact? I guess Happy is too iconic to him?

Rebecca also looks far too much like Lucy, not complaining but generally I would've expected some variation in design. xD

I liked the start, I kinda knew mid way through that whole ordeal that machines were just pretending because they wanted to send Shiki away with Rebecca. It got kinda emotional there at the end when they all started falling down after he left. :(

The adventure begins! This time, Fairy Tail in space? Wow, this idea is not so bad, of course, but some things need to be talked about. Shiki is a common protagonist, something that is always seen in the shounens of the last ten, twenty years. However, Rebecca is a character that is interesting, she is a "YouTuber" in this world, which is a nice proposal to see. Edens Zero starts adapting yet another manga relevant to the industry, but will it be good? We already know what this type of anime is like: an objective that moves the main group, a playful creativity and some specters of power and immersion in sympathy with the protagonist.

Anyway, the first episode was cool, it really is not something that should be awarded a gold medal, but it deserves a good reception from the public. It is an attempt by JC Staff to return to a positive peak, after what was OPM2, after all ...

A solid first episode. Some people miss the fact that the moment Castellan got out from the throne, the robots started to shut down after a while. He was attached with several cables as he sat on it. He was keeping the place alive until the moment that mattered, by activating his battle systems for the last time to make their lie seem as serious as possible. The final scene that zoomed in on the throne was for a reason, because it showed us the input holes and also the monitor that declared Granbell deactivated.

Pretty good start! I haven't watched Fairy Tail though I probably will someday, so this is all new to me. Pretty interesting premise, we got a hot space streamer Rebecca and we also got space exploration, I am sold lmao.

Damn, when I saw Michael smiling as Shiki was flying away, I knew they must have did all that to send him away. Animation was also pretty on point. Overall solid start, looks like it'll be a fun show about friendship lmao. It's just a shame that it's stuck in Netflix jail until fall.

Please don't write this off as "another shitty Mashima story." As someone who also didn't like Fairy Tail, I can safely say that this is SO much better. The power of friendship bs is no longer a thing and there's actually a set plot and goal for the characters unlike in FT where things just kind if happened. It can also get pretty dark as well, and pretty early on too. So please just give it a chance.

*hasn't read the manga*

I actually found this episode quite emotional; it was all an act, not an act the entertain the guest Rebecca but an act to make sure Shiki would get off the planet before they all shut down.

But I'm wondering how episodic this series is going to be.

Shiki doesn't have much human friends so you better get used to him saying it otherwise don't watch.

"To get a million subscribers on my channel!!" - Rebecca. Seriously? I'm a little disappointed by this, rather unimaginative in my opinion lol. Same thing can be said about the friends bit which is blatantly copied from Fairy Tail.

Already much better animation than FT, and of course unsurprisingly it has the typical fanservice. Rebecca is hot though. I really enjoyed the music during this episode and the opening(?) at the end of the episode was cool.

Nice fight scene, although the outcome with the robots was sad. RIP.

So far, a good start. I am hoping the series will get better and better as it goes along!

Although, it makes more sense this time, because one of the life lessons his grandpa taught him ever since he was little was to get friends and treasure the fact that they care about him, and he grew up among robots in a theme park, thinking he fixed stuff by doing f*ck all. He's basically a Tarzan lmao. It makes a lot more sense than someone who actually experienced society. It's not really a copy of Fairy Tail. The moment kind of is, but in-context, it definitely isn't.

And what's wrong about Rebecca replying to the theme park robot that her wish is to get a million subscribers? It's a place of make-believe, and Rebecca is someone who comes from a society hundred years later. She clearly wasn't serious about it as well.

What did I say that was negative? At least it's going to be friendship themed versus that bullshit Fairy Tail where they justify every action for their friends. I'm all for the narrative being friendship and themes revolving around friendship. I literally gave it a 7. Stop crying about a medium. This will be peak Mashima fiction as he accepts the tropes that were given to him and formulated into this. I can't wait

Yeah, I agree with your points on the FT bit (I forgot to proof read it a little and was skipping through the episode for specific parts while writing my post lol).

There's nothing wrong with the wish really, just that I was like "Come on there's absolutely no way they're bringing YouTube (or the Edens Zero equivalent in this case) into an anime". I think I missed the fact she seemingly isn't serious about it, but as an anime-only I couldn't tell as there are a lot of unanswered questions so far.

A slow start. Honestly I am not expecting much from this anime but of course that might change. The worldbuilding seemed to have potential but this episode was a let down. So, you are telling me that the robots had to beat the shit out of Shiki and play with his feelings just to make him leave? Even when they were Shiki's only friends? Honestly that part was horribly written and it tried to make us feel sympathy for the robots but failed badly. Also, I really hope that this won't be a "power of friendship" type of anime

They knew that Shiki had grown way too attached to the place, so it was better that as soon as the moment came that he had the chance to leave, they detach their bonds. Castellan even used the excuse that they were infected by a virus, so that Shiki wouldn't still forget the happy life he spent with them. It doesn't stop him from returning to Granbell, but it lets him have somewhere else to go once they're eventually gone.

Cool. I know you are probably a Mashima stan looking at your ratings of both Fairy Tail and Edens Zero and the fact Lucy is your favorite (when she's one of the most wasted characters I've seen to date besides Kirito). I literally am scoring this anime better than FT right now and yet you are trying to call me out lmao. I want this series to do well. J.C Staff is doing good right now and the animation is better.

This is peak Mashima. All of his plots are stale, dry, and do not develop characters. Say all you want, I bet you this is going to be another Fairy Tail plot except Shiki develops his character by making friends. He's so bad at writing plots, they made Shiki unknown to human manners so he can develop through others that's how bad Mashima is a writer.

Mashima is setting himself up to succeed with a re-skin of Fairy Tail characters. I bet you that Shiki's dub is going to be Todd Haberkorn too!

Wow I got all the Fairy Tail fanboys mad. What happened? Let's see

Shiki lives in a world with all robots that he operates

The robots turn on him on purpose because they are going to die soon and they want him to leave and see the world

Shiki wants to make a million friends and that's his goal

They go to an adventure hall

We learn that Rebecca was abandoned and that Happy is a mech

What is there to comprehend? I saw nothing unique to this plot that would suggest to me that Mashima is being a better writer. I said I'm more interested because it's space and the animation is good. You are falling for a Mashima troll. Everything criticism of friendship in Fairy Tail is being embodied here, and there's nothing wrong with that premise. My only major criticism is that they are literally re-skinning characters from FT. You can't tell me that Rebecca isn't Lucy and that one girl with red hair isn't Erza? Seriously

Stop praising this series more than it deserves at the moment.

Lol I knew that was the reasons you were going to give me. like I said comprehend what is being presented and stop looking like a dumbass.

since you aren't paying attention to what's going on. Let me break it down for you. In the world of edens zero, bots are treated as trash by humans. Shiki treats bots equally to humans cuz he lived with them for years but why does Rebbecca treats bots equally as well. That's where her characterization and backstory comes in cuz happy himself turns into a bot but she doesn't discriminate cuz its like she said happy will always be happy, it doesn't affect the relationship she had with him over the years and she also an aggressive fighter and sharpshooter. This alone differentiates her from lucy. It's why Shiki brought up the flashback from when she was tied up that she said being friends goes beyond human or machine.

But you wouldn't know that because you're being ignorant and extremely close-minded. Why continue if you're just gonna see it as a reskinned fairy tail. Friendship and love are literally presented in all shounen and so why are so pressed about it?

You mean the 2 minute backstory about how the bots were abandoned by humans??? That is deep lmao? Nah that was only given two minutes of screentime at most and wasn't a central theme throughout it all and you know that.

You jumped to that conclusion with 2 episodes into the series? There was NO indication of discrimination to bots in this series and I am not gonna call it as such until there are central topics talked about it and I see nothing of that sorts. Her cat got yeeted by a car and turned into a mech. She loved the car for what it is but where does it say anything about robots and discrimination? Do you think I'm reading the manga

Stop acting like this isn't Fairy Tail. The same things about friendship were said in Fairy Tail too but without the robots. I told you I don't have a problem with a show centralized around friendship because we know Mashima is only good at doing that

if something that easily passed you then it must've been very complicated for you
since you didn't even pick up on it.

Obviously, it's going to be expanded upon later hence why Rebbecca's backstory is being presented to us now bro. How is it not presented in her backstory? Do you need it to be spoonfed to you? Rebecca as a child literally saw her only friend turned into a robot but she still accepted him. She could've easily been scared and ran away but she still hugged him despite being a robot this shows that she doesn't discriminate against robots

You think the story that the robots made up is random. they were talking about being treated as trash is foreshadowing for what's to come in the series cuz it's something that is presented throughout it. That was literally in the first episode.

2/5 episode
They knew that Shiki had grown way too attached to the place, so it was better that as soon as the moment came that he had the chance to leave, they detach their bonds. Castellan even used the excuse that they were infected by a virus, so that Shiki wouldn't still forget the happy life he spent with them. It doesn't stop him from returning to Granbell, but it lets him have somewhere else to go once they're eventually gone.
I totally get your point but I found it to be dumb. Imagine how Shiki felt. They were his only friends but they betrayed him(at least that's how Shiki knows it), that would fuck his feelings up. Shiki would have left at some point either way.

if something that easily passed you then it must've been very complicated for you
since you didn't even pick up on it.

Get off your high ass with this talking about things going over my head. I am looking at things from the base point as what they are. It was literally 2 episodes and you expect me to retain all that info from 2 episodes? Sorry that you are a manga elitist and expect everyone to know what is going on

That literally 2 minutes of the entire story and nothing about the whole lore of robots has been explored besides a couple of episodes, yet you expect me know this deep lore within two episodes. You act like it's so obvious with robots, but it really isn't. To me it seems like it's friendship. I don't care if you turned into a robot, you are still my friend. That's called, friendship plot. That's the essence of this plot. Until I see more that's what I am calling

Please continue to worship Mashima, the troll of the century

ah I see. I hope your opinion changes as you continue the series. nice talk

Yet we saw how he felt anyway at the end of the episode. He understood that 'something else took over and they lost themselves', and he was still thankful that they kept him from being lonely. The thing is, though, Shiki WOULDN'T have left. He would've stayed at the planet and tried to survive to his best ability, all alone, trying to find a way to fix them. The motive to 'fight for those tears' would've also applied to them, and they knew this. He would've continued the struggle to find a way to fix them. The robots and Granbell was everything he had. It was better that he had the resolve to find new friends in a world that exists, rather than keep trying to restore the friends that never will in a world that doesn't.

I'd like to address that not only Shiki would've stayed on Granbell had he known the truth, but he also doesn't have a ship. Granbell is a dying theme park planet no one had visited in 100 years. This was their only chance to get him away.
