Not excited in the slightest. DP remakes look like a barebones remake and not something like HGSS. Pokemón legends looks like a pokemon game that I've always wanted to play but it's being developed by GamerFreak and I don't think it will go anywhere as long as Masuda and Ohmori are involved. It seems I've still yet to find a reason that conviences me to buy a Switch. Fario-P said: Guilion said: Don't bother making fan games, Nintendo will probably kill it off. You'd be better off making an indie game with an original IP/lore/world, but similar gameplay concept as this series and attempt to be some kind of "competitor" or alternative anyway. You'd be able to actually make money off of it that way and get some clout of your own at the same time.Meh, if it's anything like the ORAS remakes I may as well continue playing fan games, hell I've been thinking of making my own lately. in other words, take the Stardew Valley approach I know of this but I also just wanna make a game for fun and don't wanna bother making an original IP out of the concept for two reasons: 1. Every time the concept has been tried by another company it has failed (See: Yokai watch, Spectrobes, and Bakugan, not counting Digimon because honestly that one has always relied on the anime, not games). 2. Pokemon fans are fucking rabid man. It's in their nature to immediately reject anything similar (See: Temtem and Kindred Fates). Both of these can be easily dismissed by a team but I'm just one guy, while I could hire someone else to design the monsters (Which really is the factor that takes the most time here) and purchase the rest of the assets I think I would rather limit any serious attempts at game development to markets where it's easier to establish yourself and your competition isn't literally the best selling franchise in history. |

I hoped the character designs would at least be similar to OR/AS, but I don't necessarily dislike the chibi style... it somewhat resembles the classic 2d sprites but with more pixels. I do get why many can call this a "lazy" remake though... but since I never got to play the originals, I'm happy being able to experience it on switch. |

Not sure how I feel about the chibi-style. A part of me likes the nostalgia, but the other part is disappointed. I would've loved to see Barry dash into Lucas/Dawn in normal 3D models. I don't dislike it though. Overall, I'm hyped. Guess I better start saving money for November. |

I mean Pokemon games are legimately chibi art style since the beginning. That top down view, heads are real big and bodies are real small. I'm fine with a faithful remake. Pokemon Legends has tons of potential. Can't wait to travel together with Samurott. Pokemon Snap looks great and can't wait to play. |

I'm not the biggest fan of the graphics, they look like something I'd expect from the 3DS rather than the Switch, so that kind of sucks lol. This comparison just makes me sad... I'll still give it a fair chance because Sinnoh has always been my favorite region. I've been waiting years for this so I hope I'm not too disappointed. |

The soundtrack is my favorite of any Pokémon game. The new Pokémon introduced are one of my favorite sets of new mons (behind Unova and Hoenn's). Sinnoh is my favorite region. The lore (such as Arceus and the Canalave Library books are really interesting) What aspects of these game are you hoping to be improved upon the most in a potential Sinnoh remake? I want them to improve on the story's writing. Personally I don't think the Pokémon games' stories were very good until Black/White. ORAS improved RS's story significantly IMO so I want BDSP to do the same for DP. I don't think Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will bother trying to fix the story or even add in the changes and additional content from Platinum though. Do you think Game Freak will be able to improve upon the Sinnoh experience? I'm hoping they do since my love of DP is mainly just nostalgia. If they managed to make RS (my least favorite mainline game) into one of my favorites (ORAS) I'm sure they can improve DP Seriously, that announcement of ILCA Inc. working on it and Junichi Masuda coming back to direct the remakes were both huge surprises. This is the first time a company other than Game Freak is working on a mainline Pokémon game. EDIT 2: I see a lot of people saying they're not fond of the chibi style. That's fine everyone's entitled to an opinion but personally to me it looks exactly like how I always imagined the generation 1 to 4 overworld sprites would look in 3D... They were pretty chibi too right? Loknir said: .......Okay I had to write this reply last in this whole post because I genuinely don't know how to express my thoughts on this.... even right now I don't know to express my thoughts, so sorry if things sound weird or redundant as you read.I mean Pokemon games are legimately chibi art style since the beginning. That top down view, heads are real big and bodies are real small. I'm fine with a faithful remake. I have no hatred towards the chibi style, and I never hated the chibi sprites of the older 2D games. But I'm pretty sure that the chibi style in these older games were used for a different reason than in Brilliand Diamond and Shining Pearl. I think the sprites made as small chibis in these older RPGs, not just Pokémon, because it saves on cartridge space. You gotta remember that these were portable games, so the models of the areas and buildings in the original 2D games are probably made to be much smaller on the cartridge than it looks; but because these character sprites were much smaller in comparison, these locales seem much larger. So when you're imagining what these places would like as if they were real places, you'd have this character-to-area ratio or whatever to give you a sense of what'd it be like. With the power of abstraction, you can imagine how huge Jubilife and Hearthome are, or how wide and expansive the meadows of Floaroma can be. It's amazing what the power of imagination can do beyond the limits of hardware. Now, I understand that these new games are trying to be faithful remakes. But when I think of a Pokémon remake, I imagine the current state of Game Freak taking the original game and updating it to the style of the most recent games. You can see it in FireRed and LeafGreen taking on Gen 3's style, you can see it in HeartGold and SoulSilver taking on Gen 4's style, you can see it in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire taking on Gen 6's style, and you can see it in Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee taking on a mix of Gen 7's style and the gameplay of Pokémon Go. It's a great way to showcase older Pokémon titles to new players without making them feel dated, and it makes you really think about how far Game Freak has come in terms of technical ability since those games. So naturally, when people wanted Diamond and Pearl remakes, people were expecting to see it presented in Gen 8's style. As much as people criticized Sword and Shield and its graphics, you can't deny that seeing all the characters with fully scaled models were glorious after all this time, and at least the team's thoughts for the art style were in the right place (even if GF couldn't get some things to look... not off). So I imagine some Pokémon fans really wanted to revisit Sinnoh in an experience that highlights the modern technology and technical skills that Game Freak currently has. Then we get our first look at BD/SP, which seems to be The Pokémon Company's take on the Link's Awakening remake aesthetic. Forget the fact that these chibi models look really squished and feel jarring when they suddenly turn into full-scaled models during battles. I just find it a bit weird-looking, but I'm sure I and many others will get used to it anyway. But making everything as extremely similar to the originals as little as possible, down to specific art style choices such as these chibified overworld models, makes it feel more like a remaster rather than a remake. What further reinforces these games feeling like remasters is the fact that Lucas, Dawn, and Barry look exactly as they did on D/P, instead of getting Pt's outfit or even completely new redesigns. Maybe there will be some additional content in the actual game, but for now this first impression gives me the feeling that it'll literally be a 1-to-1 remaster. In my honest opinion, this first look of the game feels like the team working on this doesn't have the confidence to put some new creativity into Sinnoh. It also makes me feel like these remakes won't give players who still have the original Sinnoh games a reason to pick it up—and these are feelings that I literally don't feel about any other Pokémon remake. Sure, graphics aren't everything. But when you can see them in teasers, the graphics can contribute to giving you a good idea of how you might feel about the final product. *cough cough* the modern Paper Mario titles *cough* You can be a faithful remake and make some meaningful, quality-of-life changes. You can be a faithful remake without keeping literally everything and not changing anything, straight down to the same camera perspective and the same frickin pixel-like map structure. Just go play HeartGold and SoulSilver if you want to know what I mean. ....Sorry if this doesn't make any sense and seems too rambly. I tried. I'm serious, my head kinda hurts from trying. tl;dr - Gen 4's chibi sprites felt like it was done for the purpose of saving on hardware space. BD/SP's chibi models feel like it was done for simply uninspired, nostalgic reasons. Maybe no one could think of a creative new presentation for the games. Or maybe they were too afraid to show Sinnoh with Galar's weird graphical style without getting backlash. ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ Phloup said: Now for the game I'm really excited about: Pokémon Legends Arceus. I'm really optimistic about this game, and I can't wait to see how it will turn out. Mirai said: Pokémon Legends: Arceus does look really interesting. This is the first time that any of the mainline Pokémon games have gotten a prequel and it seems that Game Freak (well... honestly I'm not even sure if Game Freak IS working on this, they didn't say who was developing it) is finally starting to shake things up in the series for once. The ancient Japanese aesthetic looks great here and it's really cool that players can finally pick a Fire starter that won't be a Fire-Fighting dual type again (sorry Oshawott, you're great for Unova but I cannot give up Cyndaquil lol). Now Pokemon legends on the other hand I'm hyped for. Open world Pokemon game in ancient Sinnoh with Arceus playing a major role? Sign me the fuck up. I really hope GF doesn't bomb this one. The fps in the trailer looked pretty horrifying but I'll keep my hopes up that the final version is gonna look better. Also the title makes it sound like it'll be a new series of prequels... that'd be interesting if they did some more of that in the future. ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ Reina_Orikasa said: THIS is what concerned me when I watched the presentation live.DP but no Plat? Ok Nintendo. Forget the fact that Lucas, Dawn, and Barry are wearing their original outfits from Diamond and Pearl and NOT their Platinum. RIGHT AWAY you can see that Twinleaf Town does not have the small area of snow around it like in Platinum. The shot of Lake Verity has Professor Rowan and the trainer you did not choose standing by it like D/P and NOT Cyrus from Pt. I didn't even realize this until now, but the houses in Floaroma Town have different ROOFS in Pt compared to D/P, and the shots they show of BD/SP's Floaroma Town show that the houses have D/P's roofs, so I'm assuming they won't have that cute flower sign from Pt either. Jubilife City is very clearly using D/P's appearance as seen with the brown tiles, which were replaced with gray-colored tiles in Pt. Stuff like these make me sure that this'll be another Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire situation where the remakes won't take the third/special edition's innovations, and that disappoints me when HeartGold and SoulSilver, the Gold and Silver remakes that actually bothered to include additional content from Crystal, exists. This pretty much means that we will likely NOT get the Distortion World, NOT get to see more of Cyrus, and NOT get Pt's legendary Battle Frontier. Also that means we won't get Platinum's updated Gym Leader order, so we won't get to fight Fantina right away or her cool flashlight gym..... yaaaaaaaay................ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ Weed said: Honestly, I think the graphics are fine. Judging by the trailer, the remakes look okay to me. Bring back the Gens 2, 5, 6 starters, put your back into balancing, deal with powercreep and deal with the Dexit bullcrap and I'm sold. Otherwise, I'm done with with Pokémon. After seeing SwSh being the dumpster fire among Pokémon games, I considered saving my money for next-generation Digimon things or seemingly better future games like Gungrave GORE. As for Pokémon being so round and chibi-ish, I think that it happened since Gen V. |

Sure, so far the male character in platinum looks like one of the toads from Mario 64. But I desperately hope they make visual improvements. I don't mind the style they're going for that's not the problem, it's how the characters are designed and portraited. There is still approximately 8 months of development before the release. Also I've seen quite a few videos on YouTube with people making visual improvements already, adding outlines and shading. Watch this video and see what I mean |

Yeah, unless they make a vast improvement over what was shown in the trailer, it's gonna be another shoulder shrug meh for me. I adored the Pokemon Pearl / Platinum games, easily had over 200-300 hours in them as a kid. Definitely felt a little let down when I saw the trailers for the new games, I just wanted to like it and I couldn't. No reason to drop like £280 on a Switch for just these games, and I don't really care about the other games either. |

I was kinda indifferent to the the style they're going with, but maybe that's because Gen 4 isn't my favorite. I'm a Gen 5 guy and if for some reason they decided to use this kinda style again, I'd be massively disappointed. At the very least, I would have liked to have a seen a bigger scale modern Sinnoh. |

Kind of disappointed they went with a Chibi art style instead of the new 3D style and that's it's more of a remaster than a "remake" (it doesn't look like it's going to add a bunch of a content like ORAS did) but obviously I'm still going to play it. Although frankly I'm more interested in seeing what comes of Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Not gonna get my hopes up, but if we're lucky Nintendo will lend Game Freak a decent amount of Breath Of The Wild staff and the game will result in Game Freak being more willing to finally start innovating / experimenting with the mainline series. Although I could see it just being kind of bland and the world empty (although let's be real even if it is I'm stilling playing that game too). My real question is when are they gonna bring back Pokemon Rumble I liked that series (wouldn't mind a new Pokemon Ranger game either). Although maybe I should just be glad they brought Pokemon Snap back which I never would have thought they'd do. I'm shocked they haven't turned the TCG into a game though, that'd make them an absolute shit ton of money and I'd be more than happy to play that (they could put it on phones too). |

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl look more like remasters than remakes though. All right, I know that I made a comparison towards Link's Awakening (2019) earlier, but now that I think about it and re-watch Lewtwo's video about his concerns over BD/SP's reveal over and over again, I'm starting to think that's not that great of a comparison. One of the many good points he made on there is that this comparison doesn't work because the art styles of both games are aiming for very different goals. Sure, both remakes deform the characters into chibis, but he points out that the Link's Awakening remake isn't aiming to look exactly like the original games and that the art style they went for was a creative spin that wasn't done in the original Game Boy game—compare that to BD/SP, which is purposely trying to look exactly like the original games, with no real aesthetic changes other than just turning everything into 3D, just so they could justify calling them "faithful remakes." I don't know if I'm explaining this one point he made all that well, which is why I highly recommend that you actually go watch his video for yourself lol. Anyway, I think a better comparison that I should have made earlier is Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town. For those who don't know, Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is a Nintendo Switch remake of the 2003 game Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town, which is in turn a Game Boy Advance port of the Playstation title Harvest Moon: Back to Nature. top: Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, bottom: Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town. As you can see, this Story of Seasons title does keep a good amount of the general aesthetics from the original game. The game does use a fairly different art style from the original game like what Link's Awakening on Switch did, but it's still more of a chibi style that was probably done just to be more faithful to the original's chibi sprites. In fact, this game is known to play very similarly as the original game aside from some key gameplay differences... so similarly to the point that one of the big complaints I hear about it is that the game doesn't really offer a new experience or even innovations towards the farming sim genre. For these people, it's just an overly faithful remake and that's about it. (Another big complaint is that they removed rival marriages for some reason, but that's obviously a topic for another thread XD) Now, those complaints are indeed there but they weren't made that often, as this is the first time the Story of Seasons series has ever produced a remake. BUT EVEN a super faithful remake like this one ACTUALLY seems to deliver SOME new stuff to the table. There's a few gameplay changes made here, like being able to walk over your crops (thank GOD!! trust me, if you played any of these games, you'd know how much of a godsend this change is), same-sex marriage (this is actually not new to the series, as it was in a few games here and there starting from Harvest Moon DS Cute all the way back from '05, but the original game this remake is based off of specifically didn't have this), two new playable character options, and even two new marriage candidates, just to name a few things. They even bothered to give most of the characters, not just the marriage candidates, BRAND NEW redesigns, something that will NOT be done for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Sure, some people have complained about these designs (particularly Gray without his hat), but I personally think some of them do still look nice and they do at least give some reasoning behind it, like how the original game's characters were originally from another game that gave them different context/roles to begin with. They specifically mentioned that Gray's hat was removed because it says "UMA" (Japanese for "horse"), a reference to how he was a rancher in his original appearance in Harvest Moon 64, which wouldn't fit in his role in this game since here he is a blacksmith. Source for that is in this link. See, at least for this remake, they actually bothered to take the time and give the characters of Mineral Town a brand new look... a huge creative risk that BD/SP wouldn't dare making, it seems. Doesn't it hurt even more that The Pokémon Company won't even bother to give the Sinnoh characters new redesigns?? I wanted Dawn to get a nice fluffy coat again... ..........ok brief comparison rant over..... I'm shocked they haven't turned the TCG into a game though, that'd make them an absolute shit ton of money and I'd be more than happy to play that (they could put it on phones too). There was Pokémon Trading Card Game for the Game Boy Color back in '98... aside from the TCG online and that weird CGI nightmare fest game or something, that's pretty much it....................... yeah, why didn't they make a new TCG video game again? It'd certainly help teach people how to play the actual TCG like the original GBC game did, but apparently the TCG now has a whole bunch of mechanics since then, so a new video game based on the modern TCG and all its crazy mechanics would be really nice.Besides, I just want to go on an RPG adventure as either Mark or Mint again. Sorry for not updating this thread a lot, there hasn't been any updates or any real news lately... in fact, according to Centro Leaks we won't be getting any further news until next month. Pokemon Legends date is still undefined but should be defined later this year. It honestly looks pretty cool, even better than the aforementioned first trailer they made. I think it's cool that they got help from others for stuff like the music and even voice acting for this, and while some things do look rough, I can't help but appreciate stuff like the wide scope of these backgrounds, the character designs for Lucas and Dawn, and some of the lighting effects. And well... I know I obviously don't have the right to judge like this, but... I can't help but feel a little sad after watching this trailer that many Pokémon fans have started to accept just "okay" games. It just feels like The Pokémon Company doesn't seem to be interested in putting the effort Game Freak used to put in their games a decade ago anymore. Am I just getting old and whiny? I don't know anymore... nearly everything these days just feels like a bit of a letdown to me. |

Been out of Pokémon since Sun and Moon, waiting for a new game in the series that's worth buying, but these remakes aren't it. The chibi style alone is enough to make me pass on these. Is it so much to ask for something that looks at the very least on par with the average modern RPG from the biggest gaming IP in the world? I'm really not asking for much, but they've been consistently failing to deliver even the bare minimum I'd expect from a Pokémon game on modern hardware. Sad to see I'm going to have to sit through another cycle of bottom effort games pooped out by the Pokémon company just to milk fans for money, rather than creating something of quality. Maybe by the time they are ready to release the next set of games, after these, we'll see something that's worth spending on again. |

@Fario-P gonna be honest im not really excited for the dp remakes because for me legends just overshadows it, but the game does look a lot better than it did in the previews last time. Now Legends arceus really is a massive breath of fresh air for pokemon, hopefully they continue to dive into rpg style games. Now if only gamefreak was bigger and had more time they could literally make a full fledged rpg, i dont think that will ever happen seeing as the usual pokemon formula still rakes money in for them. |

Still no interest in the D/P remakes, but I like all the new evolution/regional forms we got in the Legends trailer. Forgotten pokemon like Stantler and Basculin getting a much needed evolution is always nice to see. The regional Braviary looks cool and the Growlithe is adorable. |

hzrds said: Look, I'm not really all that excited for Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl either. I have long accepted that the ideal Sinnoh remake I was expecting—Sinnoh truly reborn with Gen 8's style and engine (don't know why some people hate that idea, I mean sure I don't want Dynamax and I'm glad that doesn't seem to be happening here, but I mean, HG/SS took after D/P/Pt's aesthetic and even then GF took the time to make it look really different apart from D/P/Pt at the same time) that also brings a new look to the region and characters—will never happen.Fario-P said: There was a Pokémon Presents livestream earlier today! What are everyone's thoughts on it? gonna be honest im not really excited for the dp remakes because for me legends just overshadows it, but the game does look a lot better than it did in the previews last time. But I definitely think that this new trailer for BD/SP is seriously so much better than the first one. This new trailer shows some genuinely cool new features like the revamped Underground (OH MY GOD YOU CAN GET A HOUNDOOM, THERE ARE MORE THAN TWO AVAILABLE FIRE TYPE LINES IN SINNOH AGAIN LADIES AND GENTLEMEN), the revamped Contests which I still have no idea what was going on (lol), and the replacement of the Game Corner (r.i.p.) to a Style Shop that actually lets you change your outfit! Sure, I still wished that the characters actually looked different from the original games by having shiny new character designs, but at least it offers something new to the table! One thing that worried me the most about that reveal trailer is that it had given me the impression that the remake was so "faithful" a.k.a. safe that ILCA was probably not going to try anything new for it. The lack of footage showing something new and exciting made me feel like there wasn't anything of that sort for this game, and there wasn't really any recurring elements from Pokémon Platinum in it other than maybe the Gracidea girl either. At least now this new footage offers people an incentive to play this remake over the original games. I'm still not sold myself and will still just stick to Platinum, but I do see the justification of people defending these remakes now. |

I don't have high expectations, I'll still play it and hope I get proven wrong, but lately, Pokemon games have been (to me) fun and unique but too easy. I get that it's easier for new players and young kids, and I'm sure that kids today will have great nostalgia with today's Pokemon games like we do with ours, but even then I feel like the challenge of beating the game isn't quite there anymore. |

I'm quite hyped, but I also expected that too as well (ever since the Firered/Leafgreen came out) I can see most of the opinions say that they kind of despise Gen 4, which I completely disagree by heart; I grew up with when my sister first gave me Diamond. |

A few people like Tama Hero (who I still like btw) dislike the Sinnoh games, but other than those exceptions I see nothing but love for Gen 4 these days. |

I still don't think my expectations are going to be exactly high for this. The artstyle and the fact that is seems to just be a 1:1 remake just puts me off. Although I'm looking foward to the new legends game. |

Man, I got no excitement for the remakes. Not much has seemed to be added to the base games. |

Not much to say about it as nothing new was shown. No salt just uninterested in these remakes tbh. Legends is where is my attention is. |
