How often do you still buy games at full retail price?

Are you the type to buy all the games you want right away with no regard for the price, or are you more selective? Do you only buy a game at full retail price if you've been anticipating it for a while and are really eager to play it? Or do you always wait for prices to drop in any case, and just never buy games at full price?

Almost never. The last time I bought a game at full price was when Baldur's Gate 3 released. Knowing that the seasonal Steam sales will almost guarantee a discount makes me way less eager to buy new releases right away

i never buy games without a sale unless they're just that cheap. it has to be $15 or lower for me to consider purchasing at full price.

Never if it's digital.
Physical I'm fine paying up to $50.
I gladly payed $60 for Witch on the Holy Night because it came with a book, but I refused to pay $80 for Tsukihime even though it also came with a book.
I preordered Shuten Order from Play Asia because it's only $5 more than on eshop.

I think the last time I bought a game at full retail price was the preorder for Pokémon Platinum. The collectible Giratina went in the bin for some reason I no longer remember (It's only a collectible after all, lmao). Everything else was second-hand or pirated.

EDIT: Oh shit, I forgot. I also preordered Skyward Sword. The Wiimote's dead, though, which is abnormal given how durable those things usually are. I still have it in storage, along with the soundtrack disc. The disc (Soundtrack, not the game) has most definitely died of disc rot, though. It just happens. We all get old and die eventually, it's just that CDs die faster than people.

Was it good? I've yet to read it but I like most of the Nasuverse stuff so I hope to get around to it eventually

And it ended up being the very peak of the franchise and the best Pokémon game ever made along with Heart Gold/Soul Silver. Money well spent!

You made me look at my own copy! Mine still looks perfect, though.

I used to do it more often, but I don't anymore since $60 is my cap for paying for any 1 game. I also refuse switch 2 key game cards.
Sadly my fav game companies like Falcom lost my trust by making Ys X Proud Nordics and Atlus pushing day 1 dlc on stuff.

Hard to forgive Atlus for smt 5 day 1 dlc fiasco and p3 remake cutting both p3fes and fem C p3p stuff while adding the answer in as dlc.

I think it's better than Fate/Stay Night, the only other Nasu game I've played.

I get most of my games when they're less than $20 because I'm cheap like that with a few exceptions that I bought right when they came out because I was excited (GTA V, FFVII Rebirth on PC, FFXVI on PC, Expedition 33, Call of Duty Black Ops 1).

Between 2009 and 2025, nothing.

But I recently (digitally) re-purchased (because I already owned physical copies of these in the past) a couple of (OG)Xbox and Xbox 360 games.

And, that's about it.

The last game I bought full price was MWII(remake) on release, nowadays in terms of AAA (or quadriple if Ubuysoft are to be believed) I wait for a hefty sale,in terms of AA & indie depends on how much I anticipate it and it's asking price, dropping 15-40€ is fine, anything beyond that I primarily wait for a sale.

i do it from time to time. bought dk bonanza at full price recently and am hopeful it'll be worth it, before that i bought astro bot which was awesome and very much worth it and before that it was persona 3 remake at full price which was a bad decision since it very quickly got slashed in price and they also sold dlc for that which was pretty ridiculous considering what the game is.

next one is going to be silksong a week from now, which is probably going to be a great purchase i assume and in general i think buying indie games at full price is something i'm more comfortable with, though i do buy AAA games as physical copies and then share with friends, which makes it an easier pill to swallow.

Only if I am certain it is going to be something I really will enjoy or will be a classic will I buy it at full price. That is a rare occurance. That being said I am willing to buy the new Resident Evil and Silent Hill at full price because I think I will enjoy those a lot.

I would say never, the only games I ever bought at full price were, Elden Ring in 2022, Cyberpunk in 2020, Far Cry 4 in 2014 and Call of Duty Ghosts and Black Flag in 2013.
