A big RPG fan who enjoys just about all range of anime (except Harem! D:);
current and old. Also, a big fan of old-school mecha anime so the SRW series is my wet dream come true.

I can recommend them both if your ever in the market for something new.
Hard eh? Yeah I guess some of the later bosses can really mess your team up if your not ready for them. I'm so used to most of the mechanics at this point though its kinda hard for me to say how tough it'd be for a newcomer.
What I like most about it is there's just so much synergy and customization you can do once you start diving into it. At the beginning you can make a balanced team like you would in pokemon and do fine, but as you get deeper you can build around so many powerful synergies. Buffing your team, debuffing their team, building your team around a specific type of monster, monsters that benefit more from healing, monsters that benefit more from shielding, charge counters, bleed stacks, age counters, critical abusing, non critical abusing, evasion abusing, making the most out of your equipment, and on and on.
Well I'm playing 1 new game, and replaying an old one as well. The new one is called Dream Tactics, and its basically a TRPG with a deckbuilding element to it. You get a party of 4 out of 7 total characters, and they each have their own deck that acts as their attacks. The story and characters are pretty basic but I like the gameplay, and the pixely artstyle is cute.
The other one is Monster Sanctuary, my favourite pokemon clone. It's gimmick is that its also a metroidvania, but when you bump into an enemy you enter a 3v3 turn based battle. It's the kind of game I love to go through again every once in a while and just try a whole new team and see how well it works.
Nah, I'll probably wait till after I'm done with SMT vengeance before I try out the second trails. I'm interested in seeing where it goes, but I'm trying to pace myself so I don't get worn out by its fairly simplistic gameplay. Instead I've been playing a couple indie games myself.
That's the super over the top fan service game that turned out to be better than everyone expected right? I only really know of its reputation rather than anything actually about it.
They do look really cool, my shark thing was a glitter and I loved the whole sparkly effect it gave. That being said, gameplay wise it basically just turns everything into a slightly better kecleon, so not exactly the most overpowerd type out there.
I'm not sure they mentioned Ouroboros at all before the whole reveal at the end? It was pretty clear Joshua had a very shady past, since its pretty heavily implied he had been fighting against Cassius just before the events of the prologue, but I never expected it to turn out like this. I did suspect the professor guy was involved though, no way that guy wasn't gonna be evil in some way.
I like what they did with bootlegs, gave a sort of small but decent little in game reason to actually shiny hunt. Also like how theres a type exclusive to bootlegs in glitter lol.
Well basically, Joshua turns out to be a sort of sleeper agent assassin, and he drugs Estelle before going off on his own to try and combat his old "master". Its kinda funny, watching Estelle go through the anime romance cliche of "Oh noes! do I tell him I like him >.<" while Joshua's going through an existential crisis. Looks like part 2 is gonna be about her setting off to find him again, which should be neat.
Just wondering but how connected are the newer Trails of Cold Steel and Trails in the sky? I'm assuming they're at least set in the same universe?
Yeah the robin hood thing is pretty neat. What has the rest of your party ended up looking like?
I also finally finished up the last bit of the first trails in the sky. That is quite the cliffhanger they leave you on, I'll definitely play the next one but probably give it a little break first.
I swapped around quite a bit too, but eventually settled on a few favorites once the DLC got released. If I recall, my team had that snake as well. It can evolve into a couple different things surprisingly, and one of them is a pretty cool flying ouroboros thing. Turns into like a snake ring with wings, its weird but cool. After that I had a creepy spider thing, a uhhh... pair of pinball paddles with a scarf? (It's hard to describe but it evolves from that electric orb head thingy you can find on the overworld). Then there was a shark sorta mech thing, a lady water zombie (got real lucky and found a random astral bootleg of her), and a battery rabbit that's only in the dlc.
If you've made it to the glass guy then you've travelled a decent way through the map. How many of the companions are you up to now? I'm assuming the first 3 you found were the main girl, the guy who's hunting real estate vampires, and the goth...ish? girl who likes music.
Yeah, the creature will have a sort of static-y effect that's pretty noticeable on the overworld. Early in the game the best way to shiny hunt is to find a door to a cave (preferably one deeper inside the cave), and then just enter and exit the door until you see the flashy static. Usually takes 20-40 minutes to find one. Other than that though, wild Fusions have an increased chance of having a bootleg, and in the later stages of the game you can unlock a way to basically all but guarantee a bootleg fusion will appear.
I doubt you have him yet, but a ways in you can find a dog. I swapped a bit between the human companions before that, but once the dog showed up he was all I ever needed. Generally speaking though its probably best to just pair off with which ever partner has the monster you like best, since they get a bonus with their preferred tape.
Did you go for the ghost sheep or the candy monster?
I believe I'm just about to start the final dungeon. Saved the queen, fought off some silver haired guy in a mask, and now the super secret ancient machiny place is all that's left I'd guess.
Oh nice, I went through a whole bunch of indie pokemon knock offs a while back, and cassette beasts was definitely one of the better ones. I ended up getting really absorbed in bootleg (a.k.a shiny) hunting in that game for whatever reason. Maybe because bootlegs give an actual in game benefit?
I can see that, but after Unicorn Overlords rather basic plot I'm in the mood for something a bit more narrative driven (even if it is really cliche at times lol).
It's always tough to gauge how well kickstarter projects will actually turn out, but at the very least, at this point I imagine Suikoden fans deserve a W more than most.
So, any plans on what your moving onto next? As you might've guessed, I bought a copy of trails in the sky a while ago and have finally got around to giving it a go.
Nice, it really was a pretty damn good game. I wish there was a bit more of a post game, or some sort of new game + so you could get more use out those really late game classes, like I really wanted to use Nigel more than just the final fight.
There is one really big postgame mission where you get to unlock a bunch of unrecruitable characters (like your mom, or the boss only classes you fought throughout the game) but once your done that the only real thing left you can do is grind through random arena fights.
The lion guy is just a berseker for sure, but the rest of the beasts have their own perks. The owls especially are really freaking good supports, even if I did cut her lol.
I cut the old armor knight for the rock rats guy immediately and never looked back. Didn't end up using any of Alain's mom's old retainers somehow.
Yeah, the meteorite weapons are solid, but there are definitely better weapons. Gave one to virginia to keep her tanky, and gave one to Celeste to raise her HP. Had her abuse that attack that deals damage equal to half your HP.
Yeah, the owl milf seems to have attracted some sort of internet following, I guess unsurprisingly lol.
Any standouts so far? Still aiming for that Virginia pairing? Any classes you've ditched entirely?
At this point in the game I was using most of the classes. The only exceptions were Joseph's paladin class, all the cavaliers, that axe horse guy (i really didn't use much cavalry for some reason), beserker, and I ended up not using any of the furry classes other than a bear. On the flipside, I doubled up on a couple classes, with Fran and Celeste, Primm and Sharon, Monica and Miriam, and Nina and... wing haired Hammer girl from the knights of the rose. I did use Berenice for a long time alongside Magellan, but I eventually cut her in the Angel kingdom.
Sorry, I meant how many different squads in total are you planning on using? Because you can have 10 different squads each consisting of 5 characters. I was just wondering because I imagine upgrading all 10 of them to 5 units would take a really long time.
Funnily enough I ended up having Melisandre as my only swordsmaster. They are really cool, but the amount of times I watched that super duper 10 hit combo bounce harmlessly off an armor knight, was kinda frustrating. I ended up having to throw a pair of innitiative lowering swords on her so that I could have my heavy hitters move first.
Gryphon was one of the few classes I doubled up on, so I used both fran and celeste. Celeste was part of my no healing, all damage Berengaria squad, while Fran I had in a team with Lex, Chloe, Rosalinde, and Monica.
