Its a fucking RPG. Dont fucking telling me, y'all fucker want kirito x asuna shit or watever. Story = its a fuqin 12 eps, and do you really bloody damn need more on a simple plot about bunch of unknown people that party up, go through challenges, train(lvl up) and defeat said strong enemy. Pretty simplistic. Why people looking for more ? Felt like it was great and different, not like those SAO, LG, or ACCEL kind of shit. Yeah yeah, they didnt explain why are they there, but do we really need to know? It may be a fucking big hole in the story, but the writer wasnt focusing on that side of the story. DEAL WITH IT. At least they didnt make seem like those generic "trapped in a game" kind of pathetic shit. Even thou it seemed like it. Character = There simple. Nothing that amazing or great about them, but they fit the show, but hey, at least MC isnt like that pathetic 1 shot killer no flawed-fuck like kirito~~~~ Y'all mofos need to know whats great and what isnt. SMH. People try to look for complexity instead of simplicity. //rage intensifies |

It's a show, it's subjective and TBH, SAO wasn't all that bad. The animation was sexy and sure the MC was annoying and sure it's a harem but people like that stuff. I love this show and I'll defend it as one if someone hates on it, but don't go to such a condescending level. And if you're saying you don't like complex plots get ready for your life dude. It's definitely not going to be simplistic. |

Amazing series, absolutely loved it thoroughly. These last two episodes were tense because all of the characters were under-powered and anyone could've died at any given moment, and this was the thrill of the series. Really loved the character developed of the whole cast especially Haruhiro. The OST and insert songs were exceptional. The atmosphere was gorgeous and though the pacing is said to be slow, I though it was really good. The whole experience made me feel like I was part of their party and got to experience some good light-hearted adventures. Will gladly accept another season or two, need more information on the world setting and the backstory behind the whole transferring to another world concept. Overall this series gets a really solid 8.4/10 and quite rightly my AOTS for winter 2016. Been a while since I gave a high score to a series. |

I agree with you with some things but not all ToG25thBaam said: At least in Log Horizon you feel that there's a sense of purpose, a sense of adventure and exploration, and the author is slowly unraveling the mystery of it; and even in SAO, you are grinding to climb the tower and leave the game. As you can see, this anime is different than Log H and SAO. Yes, in Log H, instead of trying to find a way back home etc. etc., yes try to live in the fantasy world as best as they can... In SAO, like you said, they try to get to the top so they can be freed and go back home from the nightmare they are in. But in Grimgar, the setting its a bit different and same at the same time. They don't know where they are(at the beginning) and how they got there and for what purpose. They don't even know where they came from. In Grimgar, is either kill or be killed like SAO except you can die and excruciating death. By a stab to the gut or an arrow to the face, you can and will die. That is how this anime is different from the other two. Generic characters? I can see that but its not like SAO has an OP MC that is the only one that can beat the bad guy right? >.> The story. Well the story although I don't know much about the LN/Manga, I believe is about them trying to survive to live another day while risking their lives. Also, I believe is about overcoming obstacles and growing as a person/character. TL;DR: Kill or be killed. Once you ded you ded and can die a really painful way, not like SAO. Story is about surviving each day at a time with the obstacles they have. |

Story is about surviving each day at a time with the obstacles they have. My point about this show's direction and it's purpose, at the very beginning, the group was farming for money to buy themselves foods and better clothes, but later on, for some reason, it totally felt like grinding is their bread and butter. I just feel very lost as to where the series wanted to get to, as well as the characters motivation. When I try to put myself in their shoes, it just feel very unreal, that they have no goal at all, like, they are just roaming around because.. they can. When you're trying to defend a series for its characters, SAO is not a good staple for comparison. I know I have used SAO to compare with this series, but the series also has its fair share of problems, it's not like I loved it or something, so don't get me wrong. This is still Hai to Gensou's subforum, I wouldn't choose to rant about SAO here. Trying to survive another day.. that's the problem. So, the story is just going to be them trying to survive another day, until the fated day where plot magically falls from the sky and they went in full on mission mode to unravel the world's mystery or something? I need some kind of incentive from their side, you know, like, I know they don't remember much from their "past life", but whenever they had their ??? deja vu moments, they should really try to dig deeper. It would weird me out if I know something that I know I am supposed to not know, they just kind of let it slide easily. From certain episode onward, around where the leader of the group dies, this became a "Imma scout someone for my team" series, which in itself is a very generic plot, and this series didn't even add anything new to the troupe, just another new member who has a sad past, and the main crew helps her to get over it, eventually she joins the main crew, and it doesn't help that the protagonist is the coolest in her eyes. Anonifide said: I feel like I have to explain because I feel like you read my post and didn't agree much with my opinion, and feel like I only wanted complexity in this series. Just a note up, Non Non Biyori is one of my favorite series, as with Natsume Yuujincho, as with Mushishi, and many other simple stories. You can write quality, short, simple stories, or you can write bad, short, simple stories. I saw a lot of potential in this series by the second episode, but it just dropped off.Yhuori said: Chill. Strange how at the end Manatos gravestone was at the bottom of a small hill, instead of part of the greater cemetary for the memory of fallen adventurers. Still other things I wondered about ,like why did the heroes not attempt to mine or pick up al lthe jewels in the mine? Or find ore so they could sell or custom make things on their own? Also teaming up would have been lees heroic, but more strategic. Still the watercolors that masked the crummier parts of the looks in the woods or other settings eas not totally bad. I am sure in this age of piracy, the studio had limited budgets to work with, focusing on the look of cahracters and enemies most. I liked the show, and will be disappointed if thers no real 2nd season with more than just 12 episodes. 8/10 ^,;,^ |

yea i have to say that at first i hated ranta so much that i even hated the guy who created him, but in the end he became a bit better and i even hoped that he will not die against big ass kobold. i had some problems with the writing (especially these dumb shizophrenic conversations with manato) ,but overall i really enjoyed it, mary definetly saved this anime. 7/10 and hoping for a second season |

got a 7/10 mostly because the artwork was really nice. This show has a serious problem with pacing, it was so so slow, but at the same time there was barely any character introduction. Also if they want to put in music, then dont give us the outro aswell.. it just does not work like this. This could have been 6 eps to be honest. World building was pretty much non existent. Would probably still watch a second season, because Mary and haru are cute. And the focus would probably be different and therefore they would have more time (had more then enough time..) for characters and world. Really every character was so forgettable. renji showing up at the end was like: Who is he again? If you want someone to have impact, show im. or atleast make people talk about him. I totally expected haru to kill death spot because Its always like this. While a certain other character gets all the blame for doing this.. (everybody knows who im talking about) I really hoped Ranta would die. he is so so shit and only the last 2 episodes he totally changes and became usefull. |

Overall, I'd say it's okay. Nothing praiseworthy but not something to hate either. Although, this show could have been better if they reduced the frequency of the times they mention Manato and if they just removed Yume completely (seriously, just kill her already.. I get the impression that it's either she's just pretending to be an innocent airhead, you know, to look cute or the author just doesn't know how to properly write her) Oh, and looks like Haruhiro might get a permanent Kirito-tier power-up judging from his fight with Death Spot. I hope not. Lastly, Ranta, best male character here, he should have been the MC. |

Boring. Just boring. Can I blame the directing? Sometimes the dialogue was super mediocre and often the scenes were dragged out time-wise, really felt like wasting my time. The story could've progressed better. Too much wasted time with the goblins. Cool fantasy setting and we get a lot of boring character interactions. The character bondings felt a little awkward, especially with Mary. The visuals however, were unique and beautiful. As expected from A-1 Pictures. Also, did this show even have a soundtrack? |

Was an ok anime! I loved the overall RPG feels and that one scene in the underground temple with Mary's friends felt like the FFX battle against Yunalesca! Overall, as much as I enjoyed the game feel, I felt the overall anime was a little flat at times and I really only got fully into it when Mary came, which could be a problem stemming from the source? Not too sure. In any case, the backgrounds were gorgeous. The final battle was a little odd, not sure if it's trying to show Haruhiro is super special or has a hidden power or something. Some scenes felt incredibly drawn out while others felt too fast? (Especially when characters would gain powers, yet the only time we see a character learning a power, it's mostly the big boob teacher sitting and rocking back and forth on him). It was a fine anime, just wasn't spectacular for me. |

I enjoyed it. It's nice to take a generic RPG fantasy and focus on a different aspect, even if it meant basically little story at a slow pace. I hope for another season some day since that's what characters need the most to shine, time. I didn't like the overuse of the insert songs. It didn't bother me, yet also didn't have the effect it should have had. I liked the easy pace but that left out a lot of other important aspects of the show. It seems like this series was a hit or miss for many people... But with how much I love SAO I knew I'd be fine. I was surprised at how much hate Ranta got. I was really excited for Manato & Shihoru, argh what a perfect couple... |

I don't care about the similarities or not to the adaptation material. An adaptation is not supposed to be exactly alike, what works well in one media doesn't in another. To me this was the best thing A-1 has put out in an awful lot of time, I started watching it this morning and I suppose I must have missed the flaws. There were some obvious ones, like Ranta's helmet appearing and disappearing, the english singing and some of the music being way off mark and minor holes yet to be filled. How much of the bounty did Haru recieve, how did they retrieve him and how long was he unconscious? What did they do with all their money? I suppose this would be answered in a sequel though. My biggest issue is how Ranta escaped and none of the lesser Kobolds killed Haru in his sleep. Seems like something to get the fairytale ending, but nonetheless it was enjoyable. Some parts of this show was a little slow and tedious, but I mostly enjoyed both the character development episodes and the more action filled one. The weight of each battle was expressed nicely and I'm hoping for a sequel as I despise light novels since they are so poorly written most of the time. Episode gets a 5/5 for a nice finish to the show, and overall I'd rate this show 8 or 9/10, but my judgment might be a bit flawed tonight. |

Haru defeated Dead Spot and his prize is Merry. What else do you want? What else could you possibly want? xD I liked this anime very much. It's beautiful to watch and hear. The music is great and the art style too. The pace is slow and constant, just how I like it. I really hope it gets popular enough so it gets a second season someday. 8/10 at the very least. |

How does that cut the flow thing even work? Seems pretty OP so why not just use it from the start? A bit too convenient of a way to defeat the bounty tbh. Overall, the show was quite boring for me. They were training with goblins for more than half of the series ffs. Not to mention that the majority of the episodes were filled with some sort of drama, "let's have a talk" moments and shitty insert song sections that just slowed the episode down to a crawl. It finally started to get interesting once they learned to fight, resolved the drama and went into the mines but at that point the show was basically over. I suppose another thing they lacked was a charismatic, dependable character. The closest thing to that was Manato but then they thought it was a good idea to kill him off once they had started becoming a proper team and add Mary who was quite antisocial at the time. I just couldn't attach myself to this group. |

That's why I find it odd that he didn't use it from the start on the bounty. I really enjoyed that conclusion episode to this season. Rescuing Ranta, Haru's sacrifice/killing Death Spots (I suspect those lines are important going forwards), and the party's happy reunion were all great scenes. I loved seeing them happy in the end. Great OST this episode as well. I'd like to see a second season for sure. More growth in the party, adventures to be had, and, hopefully, a romance between Haru and Mary (or Yume, but preferably Mary). That scene where he woke up in bed and she was waiting definitely settled for me who I'd prefer him to end up with :P I also, perhaps being in the minority, enjoyed the SOL aspect to this show. Great art/animation as well, and while the insert songs got to be a bit much, I enjoyed the actual OST and a couple of the songs. And, great character development! Regardless, if there isn't a second season, I'm sure I'll end up buying the light novels, as the English translations start releasing this month. |

This show is surprisingly good! I enjoyed watching the show with the exception of the first 3 episodes as they are extremely boring. I like how the show picked up and started to become interesting not to mention the various OST that can be heard throughout the anime. It's been a while since I've seen a consistent show that is good in nearly every aspect. The only real flaw that I see is the length of the show since there is a lot of potential in it. 9/10 I didn't realize that this show heavily emphasize on drama till I saw the genre |

I really enjoyed this series. Last fight was a bit anticlimactic, but not enough for me to dock a full point for anything. I liked the feel of this series. It was slow paced, but it didn't bother me. I felt like these characters were 'alive' and were mostly well-developed. I thought this series really nailed the RPG and party aspects. As I fan of RPGs, I really enjoyed this aspect. I will hope for second season, but if nothing gets announced by mid-next year i'll probably buy the novels, since there should be a lot of them out by then. 8.5/10. I'll round up for the MAL rating for a 9/10. |

Grimgar of Ashes and Fantasies, in short, was brilliant and intriguing despite its numerous flaws. Before I get started, I must say that this show really took me by surprise due to its uniqueness. As such, this show is one that is more focused on the Characterization of the Character rather than the Plot Development which really is a hit-or-a-miss kind of a show. As for me, personally, it was a great success and I loved this show immensely especially from the later half of the Season, and I will admit I'm a little biased since I like to see uniqueness and different kind of storytelling, but this seriously was phenomenal nevertheless. Not many RPG shows are like this and most focus on how badass the main character of the particular show is given the different circumstances such as saving the world or as such but, like I said earlier, this is completely different and focus more on the Character Developments after encountering the harshness and grittiness of the Grimgar. With all this said and done, it is time to move on to the pros and cons of this show which really highlight the quality of this unique show. Let's start with the 'numerous flaws', like I mentioned earlier, to which many people seem to have overestimated and therefore underwhelmed the significance and brilliance of this show. First is the oblivious question of all, "How on Earth'd they end up here in the first place?" Throughout the course of the show, particularly during the first half, Haruhiro's monologues involved this very question but sadly it was never really touched upon in the show and therefore a major let-down. It was as if the Characters were just there, just so the story could finally start. Similarly, the illogical absence of explanation for their amnesia was a disappointment. Secondly, I won't deny that Manato's death was, honestly, a little too over the top and overused, and likewise for Haruhiro's and the other members obsession with Manato. Don't get me wrong though, I understand the reasonings behind the sorrow and depression around the group but I still reckon it was overestimated a little bit too much. Honestly though, I think Manato was killed off a little too early though and maybe that's why I'm not on par with the characters. Thirdly, the odd and out of the blue fanservice scenes which were relatively rare but a little irky. Lol, it was as if the Director, supporting Haru x Mary, was against the Art Director, supporting Haru x Yume. As for the finale episode, a few bloopers here and there were present too. First of which was the transition issue with Ranta suddenly with the helmet and then the helmet missing the next second and what more was that the blood on his head was missing. But it came back in the end, and so that phase of awkwardness was a little let-down. If my memory serves me right, there was another one in the end with Mary and a few others earlier, so a little wary of the Animation would have done the trick. Secondly, the lack of exhilarating tension and buildup to the final episode was unstatisfying. For the latter half of the show since Mary's introduction, the beast was referred to this colossal and vicious creature and while it was proven in the final couple of episodes, the fight was not engaging at all. Herein lies the third problem and this is the oddly convenient situations. We have been informed of earlier that this green spectrum of light appears in certain unpredictable circumstances but the way it appeared in the final episode felt like it was a little too convenient. I don't know if this is just me, but I had this bugging thought all along. Overall, it was quite bit of issues but really I don't see how these kind of issues overwhelmed the excellence of this show. Finally, with the pros. Basically, the fascinating blend of the fluidly animation coupled with the crippling depression brought to life with the soothing and pleasant Soundtracks was mind-blowing. Every episode provided one of this exhilarating moments, to which many mistake for the slow-pace of the show, in order to draw more attention and empathize with the Characters. Really, it worked wonders for me and it was memorable and sensitizing to say the least. About the slow pace of the show, I'm fully aware that by the end of the 12 episodes, nothing much has really progressed story-wise but is this slow-paced proceedings that helped to mystify and grasp our attentions, is it not? You feel as though you're moving along with the Characters pace, and this is what I adore. Shingeki no Kyojin(Attack on a Titan) Season 1 had this vibe to it, and hence no wonder why I loved that show too. Maybe I'm being biased, but it's just personal preference. Moving on, the Opening and Ending of this show was si only beautiful, mesmerizing and memorable. Truly, it was brilliant. Even the visuals of the Op and ED were brilliant, so all the more better. Last but not least, Characterization and particularly in the case for Haruhiro and Mary was breathtaking. In my opinion, Mary was the best character of this show not because of how her story but because of how it was presented. I couldn't help but smile whenever Mary was getting a little closer to the group and it was so heartwarming to see her an active member of the group eventually. On the other hand, Haruhiro's monologues were basically his characterizations and character-depth apart from his development as a leader, and both of the these were great too. Ranta may have been an annoying character throughout the show and rightly so, but all of his have a deep meaning behind it and it was sad that he was playing the bad guy just to divert the other member's worries and sorrows. Yume was the sweet and adorable character throughout and it was a little disheartening to not see her Character evaluated in detail or see much of a Development in her by the end of the show. Additionally, it's a little sad to know that Yume x Haru doesn't seem to be the main ship of the show or at least one that is implied by the show, since Mary got most of the spotlight ever since she was introduced, but it is still one I would be completely fine with. With that said though, I would prefer to see Mary x Haru more and so it was disappointing to see more of a particular scene in the final episode, and you know exactly what I'm referring to. Whatever. Shihoru was the little badass mage and I'm actually a little surprised by the lack of love she receives from the fan base but she was definitely the character who experienced the most pain following Manato's death and I must say that she's done well to conceal it all for the most bit. - Storyline/Plot Development (7.5/10) - Art/Animation (9.5/10) - Sound Department (10/10) - Characterization (9.5/10) - Enjoyment (9.5/10) => Overall, 4/5 to this great finale and a memorable 8.95/10 to the show. Lol, it was definitely worth staying up the night for it and deliberately catching a mild fever later on. I hope a Season 2 is in the making, because the story is just half-finished. Please, Season 2! |

_MushiRock11_ I can really relate a lot to your review, and I would also do anything for a season 2. Sadly I don't think it's gonna happen given the mediocre popularity it had in japan. |

Sadly, I would have to agree with you too. Of course though, I'm not done with this show. I'm planning to buy all the translated light novels in the upcoming summer from Amazon and I'm expecting great(+er) things from the novels. I can't help it, I just loved this show! |

Over all, it was another good episode and a great show overall. I was nearing a 10/10 but there is just far too many things unanswered, plot details that were introduced that had no bearing on anything whatsoever and the music was generic. Like 2002 action adventure generic video game generic. I did love the characters and the video game like progression. I do hope another season comes out of this. |

Ughhh this was soooo good, this NEEDS a season 2. We need to see everyone get their memories back or return to the world they came from and get an explanation why they were there. Please don't let it be too late to continue this. |

This show was way better than it had any right to be. I went into it expecting to resent it and I truly did until the third episode when the story truly picked up. The second episode was especially horrendous with the unneeded and unfunny peeping tom plot point. But somehow Grimgar was able to become a serviceable or dare I say even a good show! The characters, while nothing special and mostly stereotypes, were likable enough and their teamwork was always a joy to watch. Their evolution into a decent battle unit was portrayed in a realistic way. The animation and the art were also good, especially the backgrounds. The action was well-made but nothing special. The amount of insert songs was a little bit jarring and did not fit the mood sometimes. There are a few other gripes whcih I had with his show, especially in the last battle against Dead Spot. I thought that the battle was a little bit anti-climatic . But everything else was good in my opinion. Overall I would say Grimgar is not great but good enough to warrant a 7. |

Nice ending. Fortunately, Ranta didn't die because of they way his relationship with the others was going, I thought that he's going die in battle, but that didn't happen, so thank god. What can I say, it was very good show, atleast in my perspective. |

That was a really nice ending for Grimgar. I'm glad Ranta survived. He has a strong survival instinct, I mean Dead Spot was hunting him. I liked the scene where he was standing back to back with Haru. Nice shot of Yume which hit directly in Dead Spots eye. After that I really thought that's it and they would get out of these mines. But Dead Spot had other plans. It was the worst moment for them. Shihoru was out of magic, also Merry couldn't use anything besides one cure. Moguzos sword broke and Ranta was also injured. Haru's move which let him fell down together with Dead Spot was pretty crazy. Unfortunately he broke his hand and to make it even worse he had to go in an 1v1 against Dead Spot. What happened then was just magic. The lines haru could see made him able to injure the other eye but damn did he really break Dead Spot sword which impaled him afterwards? That looked so cool. The scene with Merry at Haru's bed was cute. I wish they kissed in this moment. Would have made it perfect. <3 I'm so glad everyone survived. Just a perfect Happy End :) Overall it was interesting to watch. I really liked the animation. Also the characters were likeable and had a good developement. Would be nice to know what will happen next. Maybe we get a second season in the future. 8/10 for me. |

Rewatched.... The visuals are too good in this series. I actually forgot how they got out of the mine so it was rather exciting seeing it all happen. I couldn't remember if Ranta died or not! I think I'd have liked the series even if they weren't transported to that "world". If it were just a generic dnd campaign kind of show - I'd have loved it lol. |

So as expected they rescued Ranta and even defeated that huge kobold. Guess they won't have any money problems from now on, especially if he can use that skill more often now. Overall the strong part of this show definitely was the soundtrack, really enjoyed that one. It had some nice and relaxing moments, but also some really boring ones. The characters were fine, but that's about it. 6/10 |
