| It's a website for listing anime you've watched, i don't think using real pictures is necessary at all. I actually prefer people using anime pics and stuff. I did have a pic of myself in my profile's about me section for a little bit since i saw a few others do it and wanted to be one of those people who don't care about putting themselves out there. I decided it felt too much like a regular social media site if i had my real pic around, just being seen as an anime icon is nice. Idk, my feelings might change on it again someday, but for now i'm not bothering to have a pic of myself on MAL. I do use my real pic on discord though, it's a lot less out in the open there since only my friends would see. I still kind of want to switch back to my default Rika icon though lol. |

It's the internet, it's not that we don't trust people online it's simply that it's the fucking internet and people have preferences and use a profile picture of a character they like or a certain hobby. Imo I think it's better that there are less people with there own photo as there pfp. The internet should be an anonymous interaction ground were people can discuss things they like, problems they have and stories about themselves without having people know who they are. |

| For the same reason you don't use your full real name as you nick on MAL? Privacy aside, I just find it better taste to align your online identity to the site you are on. On anime site I'll have anime-style avatar and related name. |

| Twitter, FB and insta I can totally see people using their real photos... but on MAL the atmosphere doesn’t really seem right to have a profile picture of ones self. It seems to just fit the theme of all things anime!! |
| i honestly don't know what the other people reason is. as for me, i don't have any problem using rl pfp tbh but you see, "when you're in Rome, be like a roman". since no romans (read:MALers) use rl pfp, even the senates (read:mods), except our (ex)Emperor, Xinil. since i am nobody like the Emperor, so i just behave like the romans, lel xD |
