What is the most complicated love triangle/circle you ever watched in an anime?

I just watched Nagi no Asu kara (A lull in the sea). It was a clusterf**k.

WOW that is just mind boggling. And it includes animals as well.

Yeah, and it was supposed to be a serious show. Not a ridiculous comedy like Ranma.

Well those flow charts look pretty messy. So Idk if I can say it really competes with those, but Aoi Hana was kinda all over the place. It was good but... the romance was kinda contrived.

(Major spoilers for Aoi Hana below)

It follows Akira and Fumi. Who in the last episode, are teased to be a thing and who in the manga eventually get together. (This is hella yuri btw.)

But before that, Fumi falls for this suave butch chick named Yasuko. Fumi and Yasuko date for a while.

This girl named Kyouko has it bad for Yasuko though. But wouldn't you know it, Yasuko isn't into her. You'd think she'd be in love with Fumi. But no, she's actually in love with her teacher. But he's in a relationship with her older sister. So Yasuko is 100% aware of Kyouko's feelings for her, but is dating Fumi but is actually in love with her teacher who's engaged to her sister.

And Kyouko, though she has the feels for Yasuko, is actually already engaged to this guy named Kou. (Who might be her cousin? I don't recall.) But he's a cool guy I guess.

Akira is mostly just a supportive friend (and best girl) the whole time. Though she does have a brother who has a thing going on with a friend of hers.

Aannnd I think that's it. In the last episode, Fumi realizes she has feelings for Akira and the anime ends. But soon after in the manga she and Akira actually do end up dating.

Edit: Oh and I totally forgot. Before Fumi was in love with Yasuko, she was in love with her cousin, Chizu. She was aware of this, but she was engaged and waaay too old for Fumi.

Yeah, pretty much takes the cake. And it's a pretty entertaining show. It's airing on Hulu Plus here in the States, but I don't know if it's available elsewhere (legally).

Then again, it's from before 2005, so most likely almost nobody here is going to watch it.

It seems like this anime was made by a fanfiction writer having a fever dream. LOL

In case of Ranma most of the silliness seems like the side characters.
Other than Akane's initial liking of the Dr Tofu.

Yeah but those side characters keep popping back up constantly, throwing new problems at the MCs. They don't go away, really and are very much a part of the overall situation.

The biggest problem I have with Ranma 1/2 is the same I have with stuff like Urusei Yatsura (same author, too)--nothing really ever resolves. Eternal holding pattern. And Takahashi had a habit of constantly introducing new characters who fall in love with someone, leading to the absolute mess that is the chart.

Yeah I also have an issue with certain long running anime that romance sub-plot never goes anywhere and things return to status quo at the end of every episode.

I was going to mention Ranma but as I see there's no need of it anymore.

Same author as Ranma 1/2 and Urusei Yatsura. Rumiko Takahashi liked to put these non-Euclidian love polyhedrons in her stories.

Remember Gamers? I love how it intentionally messed up its love polygon by pushing rom-com cliche to an extreme absurdity. The most interesting thing was everyone was constantly making the worse guess about what the other guys were thinking.

Gamers, my head hurts just from remembering it.
Who are you and why do you show your hostility towards a complete stranger whom you've not once spoken with before. Are you seriously asking to get blocked? Well, if that's what your intent is; to tempt me into throwing hands with someone as lowly and insignificant as you, then i may grant your wish provided you articulate yourself a bit better when trying to spite a person of my wavelength.

That's what happens in an harem anime in which people can turn into other people or animals when they touch water of differing temperatures xd.

Most rumiko takahashi series can get too tasky in the love department. This is the epitome.

Mine are :

1. Gamers! (the most complex & riddiculous school romance i've seen so far. The complexity is perfectly represented by diagram above)

2. Yesterday Wo Uttate (the love polygon inside actually not that complex. But what makes it complex 4 me is each MC's unbraveness to confess their true feelings)

Scums wish. Its romance is complicated on next level.
A lull in the sea was also very complicated but not as much this one.
Just quit anime.

i've watched many but for some reason i can only remember Just Because! for now so I'll go with that. It's a fucking love hexagon or something, very complicated, lots of drama and lots of fun. I binged it in a day. Highly recommended if you like that sort of stuff. The characters aren't annoying either, the story is good as well with a conclusive nice ending.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.
Feeling half happy, half sad.

Not complicated, but Oregairu and A Lull in the sea comes to my mind, especially the latter one, which had a twist in love polygon
