Wow, a real masterpiece! Hououin Kyouma is back!

The first 19 episodes were really disheartening, and only in the twentieth did it begin again that masterpiece.

Time leaping alone would change the worldline very little to the point where it would make no difference at all in someone's death.

No. There is no such rule. It's a different worldline, so everything which is not convergence related can happen.

EdHaku said:

It's such a little change that you can say the worldline didn't change at all

No, you can't say that. The size of the change doesn't matter.

If you put it like that, there's really no telling whether it's convergence or not unless it keeps happening on different worldlines (like how Mayuri's death was delayed one day by each D-mail).
I take Moeka's death on the first series as an example. She still dies even if Okabe timeleaps, and her death is not tied to the Attractor Field, but to a worldline. Same goes for Mr.Braun (in the vn).

You mean because of the butterfly effect? I'm basing myself more on the divergence meter thing.

If I remember, we don't know what happened to them on another worldlines in Alpha.

EdHaku said:

Oh, yeah, the divergence meter. That was built by Okabe, based on his Reading Steiner. So we can assume that the meter works as the way the Reading Steiner works.

Reading Steiner activates at the exact time of the worldline shift. But, it has 2 conditions:
1. Okabe's memories from the new worldline aren't match with his memories of the current worldline.
2. Okabe is alive in the new worldline too.

If one of the 2 conditions aren't fulfill, Reading Steiner won't activate.
So the worldline can be changed drastically by someone's perspective on the other half of the world, Okabe's Reading Steiner won't activate, because his perspective wasn't changed. For example, someone in America send a message to the past to win the lottery. It would have no effect on Okabe's past, but the past will change drastically for that person. This time Reading Steiner won't activate but the worldline changed.

Or there is another example. When Suzuha time travelled from 2010 in the original, Reading Steiner didn't happened. Why? Because Okabe didn't get any closer to the IBN, and his memories remained the same in the new worldline (Suzuha's travel created a new worldline at that point)

All in all, even Reading Steiner can't sign many worldline changes (and not just the minor ones), so the divergence meter isn't always correct, too, because that based on Okabe's Reading Steiner. So I shouldn't base anything on it.

I know this is a bit late but I have overall been disappointed with Steins;Gate 0 but I have to say this is probably one of the best episodes of the season. This episode is a masterpiece.

What an incredibly satisfying episode. Kyouma's return was one of the best things I've seen in anime all year. Mamoru Miyano is a god damn genius.

I wish the whole series of Steins;Gate 0 could have been more like this.

If (as explained in ep 20) the time leap machine failed and then caused Rintaro to continue living in that timeline, then how can he later bridge this gap going backwards? What was the point in him going to 2036 if he could just leap back repeatedly regardless of the failed attempt? Does his character learn some unmentioned pertinent information in the future that makes it necessary?

If I had to criticise one thing about that episode then the fact that Okabe did not call ALL his underlings (minus Kagari) back to the lab to tell them that the mad scientist Hououin Kyouma is back in action. (ultimately to animate the scene of the youtube video below) That's probably my favorite scene of Zero and the anime version lacked the impact the novel version had. Still good though.

I think he's trying to minimize the changes in the world line. Otherwise, it might lead to things being unpredictable. It's different in the VN because PR and V&A are separate there.

I don't quite get your questions but I'll try. Him realizing he's alive beyond 2025 (thanks Daru the real MVP) when convergence dictates his death in that year is some huge info. This is one giant step in reaching Steins Gate.

Now, look at it in a different way. If Daru never faked his death, how would he be able to leap back in the first place?

Yeah, I know. It'd be simply for the convinience of the anime viewers. He could time leap 48 hours back in time afterwards (so that there'd be no change) and move on. ;)

The Mad Scientist is back! Damn straight I would get totally mad if I would do so many jump as what he did, that his mental state didn't fail is beyond me... but damn that sure was quite the ending, really do wonder what the next two episodes will have to offer though...

Still find it completely unfair that the teleportation of them is actually a break point in the timeline. Well let's see what happens next as I'm really interested to see what will actually happen next and how this series will finish.

What I don't understand is why no one of the lab members time leaped, why it have to be Okabe. Anyways it was an splendid episode it gave more insight to the time leaps Okabe did in the VN and after 3000 or so time leaps and the collaboration of everyone they are one step closer to Steins;Gate.

3000 leaps with some being 2 weeks long back some 2 days back... From 2036 all the way until he reaches the day the conflict of WW3 truly starts in 2011.

And to top it off, HOUOUIN KYOUMA HAS RETURNED!!! Daru's reaction is absolutely fitting for something he has hoped to see for over a year! And Maho's reaction to this is absolutely priceless! Her mild confusion is hilarious. The laugh, the poses, the habits and the accents... Hououin Kyouma has returned and will not run away anymore! I love this moment so much! Daru's punch is a catalyst to this!

Now that he has returned, what better thing to do that assemble his lab members for a new operation! Just like the old times. Operation Vega seems to involve BAMBOOZLING Alexis into thinking his plan worked out well. I wish this episode was longer so that the full glory of the operation can be witnessed, but with only a few episodes remaining, they have to wrap it up... Oooh! Seeing how Alexis reacted is absolutely SATISFYING!!! A satisfaction level beyond even that of punching Alexis' face!

Though even with this perfect plan, the converge is already set in place. The time machine will always be destroyed...

*casually leaves this quote here*

“I'll no longer give up. I'll no longer lie to myself. I'll no longer pretend I made the right choice. And I'll no longer compromise! Everyone's been desperately battling on, driven by the hope to change our world. I'll believe in their hope. Hope... will be my strength! I'll show everyone we can reach that place!”

Just kidding, I wasn't casual during this scene at all... I was about to explode into little bits of black paper (black, cause after binging 20 episodes of this anime in one day I have no joy or color left in me) with FINALLY written on them in all caps. Finally, Hououin Kyouma is back, and he's going back to find Steins Gate!

Okay, I have to admit that this season does build up on the narrative of the original story and in a very strong way. You could say that in Season 1 the solution was handled to Rintaro almost on a silver platter, just after he decided to finally compromise. This part of the story though asserts that one should never compromise and settle for less than what he can still fight for.

It was really satisfying to see Okabe act like a Maaaad Scientisttttttt again, we've been eagerly waiting for the return!

And of course, those two can't leave via time-machine.. it's a foregone conclusion, they objectively can't do it.. I guess they'll have to find a way to save the future through a method other than utilizing the time-machine.

Goddamn I was in tears, finally.. after 21 eps.. I finally heard his crazy evil laugh and his fun way of pronouncing names/things. Everything was going in the good direction. BUT IN THE END, the helicopter is there.

This was a superb episode, sad ending but 90% of the episode was amazing.
