You own an account on an anime forum / data bank, I think that's hardcore enough. :D. I can't see a reason why a heterosexual girl should like Yuri for the Yuri aspect, but of course I know some, who like Shoujo-Ai. Just because someone can't relate on a personal level to the characters, doesn't mean that they can't like and root for them. I also can't personally relate to BL either, but I love some couples. |

I've got a lot of friends who are female who like yuri. Count me too if you want. Thing is, we tend to stay away from certain types of yuri. Or I guess a lot of us read yuri manga more than watch yuri anime. |

I use MyAnimeList as a means to keep track of my anime as I was devouring them at an ungodly rate XD I find more heterosexual girls are into lesbian fiction on apps such as WattPad. My personal collection is 99.9% are Girl X Girl and quite a few have been written by girls who label themselves as 'straight'. Maybe, lesbian fantasy is universal but anime isn't such a strong median compared to web novels and manga. |

Dunno, haven't really explored the genre. Only shoujo-ai I watched was Maria-sama ga Miteru which was cute but the romance aspect felt underwhelming in the same way Kimi ni Todoke did. I'm gonna watch the second season to see where it goes. |

You've probably figured out by now that aside from Sei none of the mc cast are lesbians; but that doesn't mean they can't love each other -- but only in a similar way that actual sisters (non-incestuous ones) would -- hence the soeur term is actually pretty accurate. You aren't going to get kissing (for instance). You will get a lot of emotional support stuff, crying on shoulders, hugging and the like. And just as real life sisters do, the soeurs in Marimite will have fights and mis-understandings and then the heartwarming reconciliation afterwards. S2 has some great moments: the graduation of the 3 Roses will make you cry for sure, there is a backstory episode on how Sei and Shimako became soeurs which is a masterpiece, and although we lose the 3 Roses due to graduation, the void is filled by some great 1st year characters. Finally, we get a couple more of those misunderstanding-->reconcilation mini arcs I mentioned. If it's actual lesbian relationships complete with the kissing and what not then watch Sakura Trick (which I found to be as shallow af) or Strawberry Panic (the later has a mix of Class-S and actual lesbian couples). Aoi Hana. Ultimately, manga will be your final recourse due to the paucity of shoujo-ai anime. Anything tagged yuri typically has an ecchi tag, probably a hentai tag, incest themes, R+18 ratings -- basically the hot and heavy end of the scale with Marimite at the other. **Off to read the rest of the thread from page 1. Thread wasn't addressed to guys so I skipped it but now I'm curious as to what else has been posted :p |

Thread wasn't addressed to guys so I skipped it but now I'm curious as to what else has been posted :p Yeah, I'll probably enjoy it more if I just see them as really good friends. I'm open to reading manga, even ones that get sexual as long as they have healthy/non-abusive relationships. A lot of the non-shoujo-ai romances I've seen have the issues of just being "people with a vague affection for each other standing next to each other" so when there's a solid, fully realized relationship I'm all about it. I actually quite liked the romance between Guts and Casca in Berserk because it develops overtime and stays rooted in a mutual respect for each other even when it gets sexual. It's also a great contrast to the way pretty every other man in the series treats Casca. So basically anything that shows a fairly realistic lesbian relationship that isn't some creepy fetish thing I'm down with looking at. |

I don't really read/watch yuri, because neither yuri/shoujo ai or yaoi/shounen ai genres have many stories that interest me. But if I came across an interesting one, I would gladly read/watch it. I think I'm going to check the Asagao to Kase-san anime when it comes out. |

ImmatureCookie said: No, actually! O: We mostly end up avoiding the cutesy, pure type of yuri/shoujo ai made for men usually by men. There are exceptions, of course, when it comes to yuri/shoujo ai made by men but still feel real or relatable enough and are mostly well-done. We tend to flock towards yuri made by females, though. I've read only a yuri manga and watched Yuri Yuri just for curiosity and didn't liked it. I like yaoi. But I know there are str8 girls who see this or l*****n p**n and aren't lesbians. So what I learned is that doesn't mean ur s**ual orientation at all. There are str8 guys who watch yaoi and aren't gay. |

Yeah! It's actually very common. There's just as much yuri for females as there is for males. The publication Comic Yuri Hime is specifically intended for a female audience. |

huge fan of both yuri and yaoi. Yuri is fap material, yaoi is fangirling material. Indeed yuri is generally underrated, hella hard to find good yuri animeys and mangos |

Female, straight, 23 years old reporting. As for entertainment purpose only: 1. Gay 2. Lesbian 3. Het Though, it's totally depends on character dynamic. I can't just ship it JUST BECAUSE they are both male or female or male x female. I find taboo things much more entertaining to watch. Both shounen ai and shoujo ai are cuter imo. Probably because hetero is everywhere so somehow I find gay and lesbian couple cuter and more intriguing. |

Pretty certain the user was talking about general relative trends (yaoi fans tend to lean heavily to female while bara fans are overwhelmingly male). However, female bara fans DO exist. Just not (generally) in the West. |

I think/have noticed, not only around mal, there exist many female/girls that enjoy watching love from the same sex, the only thing is that they are too shy to express themselves.. Like myself, honestly. I prefer both yaoi and yuri/shounen ai, as long as it is a decent and mellow story with relatable or nice characters. Just like Citrus for example ;)) |

I admit I do watch and like shoujo ai (more sweet romance/no sexual) At first I never even dared to step into the strange land of girls love, but as someone who believes in sexuality equal rights AND is a fujishi/yaoi shounen ai fan.... Curiosity killed the cat and I just had to try a bit. Shoujo ai is so sweet! You get embarrassed when it’s lovey dovey. It’s so pure and cute love XD To me shoujo ai is similar to shounen ai as they both focus on love! But somehow I think shoujo ai is sweeter in pure aspects of love. Yaoi excites me. Shoujo ai makes me embarrassed and happy. |

I'm a straight girl and I like yuri just fine. Really I like any mature romance, anything that isn't super bland shoujo with endless pining is good with me. Sometimes I'll feel like reading yuri/bl/het specifically but it's usually because of the different feelings you get from each. I don't read it to be attracted to the characters but to feel their love and connection if that makes sense. |

I'm more of a Fujoshi myself, but I don't mind yuri at all. I watch them if the plot interests me, but otherwise I'm not really actively looking out for it like I would for BL. If it's there, I'll watch it if it grabs my attention; if not, not a huge loss for me. I don't really read yuri manga (the only types of manga I read are BL and whatever else catches my eye, usually manga of anime that I just finished that I felt was incomplete and I need to read the manga for more), so my only exposure to the genre is through anime; I'm just kind of miffed that most of them are set in a weirdly specific world - all girls Catholic school. Like what. First of all, even with BL, I'm kind of done with the whole school setting; second of all, it gets kind of repetitive when it's the one setting I have to watch every single time. If there's any yuri anime that is set somewhere else or actually explores more mature themes (not sexual per se, but slow character development and older characters), you can bet I'll be on it in a heartbeat. |

Everything with females get branded as Yuri and that's a huge problem I have written a damn rule-book about this on my page and how i see things But as i said, Even when the love between the women are very subtextual people brand it as a Yuri, and personal i don't think that's is Yuri .People should also understand that a woman can look at a woman and ADMIRE here in a other way then we men look at each other, that doesn't make them lesbian Everything gets thrown in the Yuri pile even anime like Happy Sugar life cmon no its not a Yuri, or Girls & Panzer no again its not a Yuri either I think woman can like the Yuri i watch, but i watch Real "Yuri Romance" not hentai rape kissing or anything like that, that is NOT romance guys All bait fake Yuri that is branded as Yuri i don't think is going to get as popular with the females, but the nice one out there like Yagate Kimi ni Naru or Strawberry Panic have a chance i think |

TitanAnteus said: lady_freyja said: TitanAnteus said: AltoRoark said: There are tons of straight girls who like yuri. What's interesting is that both yaoi and yuri are primarily aimed towards females. They're a subgenre of romance, and romance is typically focused on fluff rather than sexual content. Eh really? The only straight girl that I ever knew that liked yuri was a closet bisexual. Honestly... I don't think there'd be many straight girls really like yuri. Think about it like this. As a guy, ff there was a boys love anime that was as cute and fluffy as yuri, would you watch it for the boys love? Probably not. As a straight man that... hmmm... best word... disgust? would still be there. Sorry. But we're speaking about romance here. That genre is about seeing people in love with each others. I have an hard time to understand why someone could be disgusted by a romance, except for moral values (like incest or shota/loli type of romance, for example), or because the romance is unhealthy. I do understand that you have preference about the type of pairing or the couple dynamic, hell, that's even normal. But being disgusted, no. I mean, if you have a gay friend, you'll be disgusted to see him with his boyfriend, seeing them affectionate like any other couple? Because that's basically what we are speaking here. Yes that's exactly right. There are no moral reasons behind it. I'm not religious nor do I think gay people are doing anything wrong. I just really want to look away whenever I see an act of physical intimacy between homosexual people... well... outside of hand holding anyway. I don't know, but as I've grown older I've felt that this feeling is a definitive indicator of my own sexuality. Also, disgust is a strong word, but there's no other word I could use.... maybe aversion? I just don't like seeing it. don't worry, this is a very common thing, many people feel like you. they even have a name for it: homophobia |
