An actual display of knowledge would be fine, for example citing anime from this season and looking in depth which ones have fanservice and which ones don't. You are the one who is playing dumb here. Again I'm not gonna sit here and give you an itemized list of evidence. If you wanna see all the objectification going on this season then just go look at all the gifs and MamsterP's profile page. You know why this is a meme? Because anime has a shit ton of sexual objectification, that's why. You answer me with a meme? And to answer what exactly? I know that sexual objectification exists in anime, thanks for the info. And I'm not asking you to give me evidence, but the one who set this debate in the first place, and has been laughing at us by creating such a low-effort thread with zero backup to their claims and actually telling us to prove their points wrong. Also if you want to make a case for One Piece (last picture on the right) you better find a scene that does not imply the character getting a tattoo removed due to some major emotional shit she suffered, which is what that pic means in context. Maybe the bath scene from today's episode would make a lot more sense to your point. |

@Bobby2Hands if it's legit and OP really just remade an account and genuinely felt like telling us his opinion with 3 anime on his list and a Steven universe avatar, a show whose creator openly admits that it draws heavy inspiration from Utena, then so be it. @Valiaaant 1. How sensitive is your definition of "objectified". If it is "sensitive", then you can pretty much find objectification of women almost anywhere. They're songs that do it so we should stop listening to music? They're movies that do it so should I stop watching those too? There are GAMES GALORE that do it so should I stop gaming? It happens in REAL LIFE, should I not go outside? XD XD 2. I see it a bit like shopping. You can't help but spend money, yet you're not going to buy something obnoxiously expensive. You look for something affordable and reasonable. I see anime the same way, if I get a sense that there's just too much (like harems), I don't watch it. But, in my own perspective, there are quite the number of anime that don't objectify women or just do it minimally where it's not insulting. |

Valiaaant said: I've looked through a lot of profiles here and there seem to be many women, which is really surprising considering that Japan's sexist views reduce them to mere fanservice material in 90% of anime shows. A female character can wear revealing clothing and be sexualized, and also be their own likable character with proper agency, motivations and backstory that can be appreciated even by girls who don't care about fanservice. Nami from One Piece for example, a pic of whom you posted here, is one of those such characters. So looking up and posting random pics doesn't say mean they are only there for fanservice, or even mainly for fanservice. So, unless the "female" users are males who fake to be a girl to get attention like what happens in online games, i can't really explain how could any woman align with something that is mainly directed to straight males and leaves barely any space for them. Why are there a shit tons of adult male MLP fans when the series is clearly meant for little girls? Because the show has something that attracts them, just like there are some anime that are targeted towards boys and yet have a big female fanbase, like Gintama for example which has more female manga readers than male ones even though it's from Shonen Jump. There are some good examples of female characters and shows done right when it comes to representation, but what about all the rest? It seems like anime is going backwards when it comes to catering to the female viewers, who sadly have to leave space for the overabundant male pandering. Again, you are acting like women are actively put off by even the slightest amount of fanservice, when they probably just simply don't care about it unless it goes to a uncomfortable extreme. @Wasshio likes plenty of anime with fanservice. @nicethings is big fan of Durarara, a series with fanservice. @S-quare22 has a Senjougahara pic and the character in her favorites, a sexualized female character. And yes, I know they don't represent all women, those are just examples. Sadly, even tho the female characters are many and more tha the male ones by sheer numbers and get more screen time, they always become mere subjects of pantyshots and the clichè "oh my god i fell over you and grabbed your boob don't slap me" kind of gross objectification. Don't watch ecchi, harem, isekai, most of light novel and visual novel based anime then. Most those type of scenes come from those types of anime. Also, you find pantyshots to be gross? really? That's the one of the tamest forms of ecchi. So, my question is: what makes women watch anime :/ ? i would be really glad if i got some insight by their part, i am doing a research/survey about this. Thanks @SuperRed for tagging me here... and holy shit this is uh... amusing. To say the least. I can attest that I like anime for various reasons. But a reason why I'm not bugged by the views that you somehow called "sexist" is because majority of the time it's not something that I can be offended by. In fact, there are series that I do like that have fanservice, and of course while the female protagonists aren't the best out there I do think that they serve their own right in some sense. There's few exceptions where there will be series that will grind my gears but not because of the sexist views, but because how these shows portrays those characters in a way that makes me feel uncomfortable to the fullest extent. And even then, I'd say I wouldn't go to SJW level capacity because in the end its just a fictional series. Oh yeah by the way, there ARE shows that are targetted towards female but the same thing can be applied to the logic you just said in some series for example: Most Yaoi/Shounen Ai shows (people complain about these often due to it appealing to a certain audience and/or making men portrayed badly apparently), Anything with a Female lead that has an all male cast (the most recurrent complaint is how these shows don't appeal to men, even though they have as much harems so why not give girls a fair chance), Romance/Shoujo (that's like the demographic focused on the opposite gender), and the list goes on. This is coming from a female, despite a lot of people that thought I was a male at first glance and I had to explain further. This is an testimony coming from me. |
