Hello~ This might have been asked before (sorry about that), but I'm a little confused about the "completed anime". I have (16) Watch a completed anime with a score of or above 8.00: And I wanted to put Violet Evergarden in there, even though it has not completed airing yet. I understand that the anime has to have a score of or above 8.00 once I finish watching the anime (which would mean the completion of the anime itself as well). But I don't understand the difference of starting it now or waiting until the anime has finished airing. (Does that make sense?) Does it matter? Or is "completed" only to make sure they finish airing before the challenge ends? Thank you >A<" |

Hello, Thank you for your answers, last time. :) I'll come back with some questions... - For items 60. Watch an anime with a human main character that is not Japanese and 61.Watch an anime that mainly takes places outside of Japan, but still on Earth... Can I put Violet Evergarden ? Some sites say, the anime is happening on the American continent and the characters do not look Japanese but English and it speaks of the war so ... I need a confirmation please. :D - For items 74. Watch one of the Top 5 anime recommended to your Favorite Anime and 106.Watch the Top anime recommended to your Favorite Anime : Should I take the recommendations in the "Details" or in the "Recommendations" between "Reviews" and "Stats"? Because for some the order changes ... - And could I get a recommendation for 102. Watch an anime recommended to you by a challenge staff member... Please, if possible anime type TV of more than 10 episodes please. ^^ Thank you. :) |

Hi, so does FLCL still count as a stand-alone OVA or do the not yet aired sequels that were announced disqualify it from Challenge #34? I'm definitely going to watch it sometime soon, but I'm just trying to figure out what challenge I want to list it under, lol. |

So, if it finishes and you watch it then, then you can use it for this challenge if the score is still above 8.00. Therefore I don't recommend you use Violet Evergarden. - Take the order where the anime are placed from most recommended to least recommended. - Recommendation for 102 3-gatsu no Lion Amaama to Inazuma Clannad abhutrash said: Hi, so does FLCL still count as a stand-alone OVA or do the not yet aired sequels that were announced disqualify it from Challenge #34? I need a recommendation for (27) Watch an anime recommended to you in the challenge discussion thread Please, give me at least 2 suggestions of anime that aren't longer than 10h. I want it to be some 80s or 90s OVA or movie (no TV series), excluding comedies (unless mixed with some serious elements) and family movies like Ghibli. Preferably something from this list: https://myanimelist.net/animelist/fuyuki?status=6&tag=facebook but of course it can also be something outside of it as long as it fits the criteria. |

Lmao considering all that nitpicking about hair colors just on the last page I'm seriously wondering if anyone is still having fun doing these extremely pedantic challenges? It seems to be more about nitpicking and researching inofficial wiki articles and treating them like gospel even if you can obviously see that the hair is 'not' just black, than just having fun with anime. When you have to spend more time arguing about silly details like this than actually watching anime, not sure it still deserves to be called Anime Challenge rather than a competition of who can navigate their way through this Kafkaesque bureaucracy attached to it. I don't want to hate but I think it's sad what this challenge turned into. Originally it was just a motivator for having some fun with anime, but now the fun has taken a backseat and the whole organisation cares WAY more about being extremely pedantic about the silliest things. Valuing wiki articles more than common sense and just generally being extremely inflexibly in every regard. The rules are more important than people having fun is the impression I get. If you're having fun but one of your entries isn't 100% defined as fitting the age or color or whatever requirements or you missed a screenshot you're doing it wrong and don't deserve to finish the challenge according to the organisers and imo it should be the other way round. At the same time challenges becoming more and more narrow so that there is less and less freedom to really choose for a lot of them. Many literally leave you only a handful of options and you'll end up having to force yourself to watch something you know you won't like or to 'cheat' with shorts or other loopholes which defeats the point imo. The current approach is encouraging watching stuff just for the sake of ticking off a list item, and ideally spending as little time as possible on it because for a lot of the items you simply won't find anything that interests you because of how specific the parameters are. I used to enjoy participating but I'm not even gonna bother this year. This has become 80% bureaucrazy and 20% having fun watching anime which is just not an acceptable ratio for something that's supposed to be casual and enjoyable. This most recent page is the perfect example. When you have to argue about haircolors and their definitions for a whole page, priorities are seriously misaligned. I expect this to become a very niche thing for dedicated pedantics in a few years if this trend continues. Just my two cents. Seeing fun and casual events ruined by bureaucrazy and an over-eager organizing team is just kinda sad to me because I find pedantic bureaucracy to be a pretty toxic thing, which is like the opposite of what a challenge like this should be about. I don't expert the organizers to really care because they've continued this trend for the past few years even against constant waves of feedback that criticize these developments. They enjoy doing it like this, so everyone else has to as well. |
I probably regret this post by now. |

They enjoy doing it like this, so everyone else has to as well. Yeah I kinda liked the challenges from last year more. This year is like i'm just sitting there searching for animes instead of watching them ^^. arisusagi said: GDHM39 said: Hi there, I need help at some challenges: (59) Watch an anime with at least two human children as main characters: (75) Watch an anime with 3 or more main characters with unnatural hair color: (96) Watch an anime with 5 or more human adults as the main cast: (108) Watch an anime with 6 or more main characters with natural hair color: my list https://myanimelist.net/animelist/GDHM39 I just can't find anything, thanks for the help 59: https://myanimelist.net/anime/32601/12-sai__Chicchana_Mune_no_Tokimeki https://myanimelist.net/anime/1281/Gakkou_no_Kaidan (the wiki says the main character is 10, and she has an younger brother, so...) 75: https://myanimelist.net/anime/10321/Uta_no%E2%98%86Prince-sama%E2%99%AA_Maji_Love_1000 https://myanimelist.net/anime/1579/Kiniro_no_Corda__Primo_Passo https://myanimelist.net/anime/21563/Kamigami_no_Asobi 106: https://myanimelist.net/anime/35067/Osomatsu-san_2nd_Season https://myanimelist.net/anime/5060/Hetalia_Axis_Powers thanks for the fast response |

Pullman said: Yeah...honestly you worded it perfectly. Even a pretty pedantic person like myself is having a tough time justifying how needlessly detailed everything is this year. Feels like I'm trying to game the system more than I'm trying to just watch more anime. That being said, I'm still having a fun time (probably because this is only my second year participating). Highly doubt I'll participate in 2019.Lmao considering all that nitpicking about hair colors just on the last page I'm seriously wondering if anyone is still having fun doing these extremely pedantic challenges? I don't know if I'll manage to finish my hardcore difficulty even though 100+ anime per year is my usual pace nowadays, and that's because of weird tasks like 'watch anime scored by less than 50 members'. The most obscure anime I've watched so far, Next Senki Ehrgeiz (I watched it for the last year's challenge btw, it was garbage) was scored by 130 users.i got fairly easy challenges from the randomizer and was able to add stuff i had already planned to watch anyway so in my case i didn't have any issues but i understand where you are coming from |

It's cute but, well, it's just a long music video basically. Alternatively I can also search up some random shorts or music videos if you just want to get it done with little effort. But I just checked the handful of anime that has under 50 when I watched them which I would still recommend, but they were all over 50 by now. You could also regularly check this fansub group: http://collectr.blogspot.co.at/ They mostly sub things that were completely unavailable before and they tend to start out under 50 viewers when they're released. But yeah it's items like this that make it literally impossible to, for example, finish as 'Master of Tv Series' unless you can watch RAW anime. Because even obscure OVAs quickly get over 50 viewers once they're subbed. Even shows that aren't fully subbed tend to have more than that. There's just less and less stuff you can do with your challenge the more restrictive the tasks become. And more and more time spent on just finding something that fits the bill, even if it feels like a chore to watch it (and search for it). People always say, when watching anime starts feeling like a chore it's time to quit or take a break, and I say the same is true about challenges like this. For me it definitely reached that level last year already when 1 or two specific items just prevented me from finishing the challenge (or rather they limited my options to one or two entries that I had zero interest in and which were way too long to watch just for the sake of completing a challenge that should make watching more fun, not less. Which is why I decided not even to try this year. But everyone has to decide when it reaches that point of feeling more like a chore for them by themselves. |

There's a lot of garbage down there, but this one turned out to be quaint and is actually accessible online. |

Only real problem I have with the challenges is that some have ridiculously obscure requirements, like rarely used sources a low number of members or no favorites. One would need to an eternity to find something that fits the bill. It wouldn't be so bad, if they could be searched for. As it is, the challenge lies in finding anything in the first place, which isn't really the point. Of course, that's not even much of an issue, if you do a low difficulty. |

This is coming from someone who's doing this for the first time but I find the mal specific ones to be the most annoying to search stuff for since most of it is up to blind searching for something. I switched to king after seeing how annoying hardcore seems to be with the specific challenges. For me tier 1 and 2 seem to have the most interesting challenges yet you're forced to complete almost all of the annoying tier 3, barely getting to touch tier 1 at all. Though I feel like I've gotten off a bit lucky since I've been able to fill a lot of mine with anime I had been wanting to watch, there's still those mal specific challenges that I'm struggling to find anything to watch much less something actually interesting. Kinda of feels like it's become too restrictive in the name of bring a challenge but I have no idea what previous years were like so I'm basically talking out of my ass. For those that have participated previously does event staff respond to complaints and make changes? |

@Pullman thanks a lot, I'll watch it. Actually I don't like to have too many random shorts on my list, so it's nice it's a little longer than 1-5 minutes. And thanks for the link too, I had no idea about this group. I still feel like doing the challenge, at least so far, but I agree that it can be really draining. Last year I was doing the hardest difficulty + the Master of TV + some additional personal restrictions (it was crazy, I don't know what I was thinking) - and I almost got burnt out. This year I'll surely stop, or at least lower the difficulty, if I start feeling like it's too much for me. @abhutrash oh god, I haven't noticed that challenge, at first I though you're saying about the one with 'less than 5 favorites' in the 3rd tier, which I've already completed. So they've made an even harder one ._. Thanks, I'll either watch that or exclude this task (I haven't removed anything yet, so I have 3 additional ones in the 2nd tier). |

fuyuki said: Pretty sure this one is Tier 2 and the other one is Tier 3 mostly because of the length requirement. The "less than 5 favorites" item requires it to be at least 16 minutes long, whereas the one I'm talking about can be any length.@abhutrash oh god, I haven't noticed that challenge, at first I though you're saying about the one with 'less than 5 favorites' in the 3rd tier, which I've already done. Here's where the zero favorites start: https://myanimelist.net/topanime.php?type=favorite&limit=9100 Main obstacle for me was trying to find things that are even available to watch online, which is why I went ahead and recommended Speed. Of the zero favorites, I also watched Embah, which was trash, don't do it. I can PM you a link to Speed later if you have trouble finding it. |
