Agreed! Everything was just way too convenient!

It wasn't Deus ex machina.
Jesus Christ. Did you pick that fallacy from hadena site or what?

Hadena what?

Edit: Oh, it's a sub group, and they commented on it being a deus ex machina as well. Nope, I'm afraid I like thinking for myself; seems we just happened to be thinking along the same lines.

A Deus Ex Machina is when some new event, character, ability, or object solves a seemingly unsolvable problem in a sudden, unexpected way. If the secret documents are in Russian, one of the spies suddenly reveals that they learned the language. If the writers have just lost funding, a millionaire suddenly arrives, announces an interest in their movie, and offers all the finances they need to make it. If The Hero is dangling at the edge of a cliff with a villain stepping on his fingers, a flying robot suddenly appears to save him.

Or in this case, if the fleet appears to be facing its destruction or at the very least high casualties, they suddenly happen to have a hitherto unmentioned SUPERWEAPON lying around. Why didn't they use their superweapon before, on any numerous occasions that would've called for it? Oh, it was, uh... forbidden! Yes, Forbidden with a capital f. That's it.

Okay then. Glad we cleared that up.

Shouldn't be surprised, considering the poor writing for this show in general.

its not a deus ex machina THERE WAS SO MUCH FORESHADOWING FOR THAT THING ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY YOU MUST BE BLIND they had the key laying around and the main character even noticed the cannon several times in perverse episodes!!!

I didn't have a problem with anything that happened I guess, but the whole ending just seemed kind of "meh", not to mention it presented some confusing unanswered questions.

Like, why did everyone freak the f* out when they had to use the cannon? Why did Chamber suddenly start to feel things? That goes against his whole character from the beginning of the show. Also, hey. What about the war with the hideauze in space? That's pretty important.

Pretty lukewarm series in my opinion. 5/10.

Goodbye Chamber T___T a great character, really sad that he had to go. Glad that Ledo and Amy reunited, looks like Ledo's helping mankind coexist with the Hideauze on Earth. Really enjoyed the show! A few episodes in the middle were kinda slow, but I think they were important for character development. I loved the plot twist with the Hideauze being human hybrids, too. Looking forward to the OVA.

this show was poorly written, slow, dull, full of cliches and just overall kind of bad in most departments, however that final fight was fucking awesome, i need to give it that and ledo was a enjoyable main character. The world had some charm to it and was a pretty thing to look at, however that nice setting is wasted on a poor show when it could have gone to something that could have done the setting justice. And whilke the show fails in most departments it only just fails, it doesnt crash and burn. It never becomes "oh my god this is awful" just ends up being bad and just bad with its few redeeming qualities saving it a bit

extremely low 5/10

I was stuck somewhere between laughing and crying. I don't even know what this anime is trying to do.

Overreaction aside: This was terrible.

I'm also kinda wondering what the entire point of the mass driver was. All it did was take out the "treasures" and their HQ (which had no combat potential from what we've been shown). I think Chamber said earlier that the fully functional cannon Pinion was using had 1/100 of his firepower, or something along those lines? I doubt it would've mattered whether they had access to it or not.

I also love the hypocrisy of it.

NOOOOOOOO Chamber....

Enjoyable series. Not bad ending.

Definitely enough to continue it. There's more to the mystery of the Hideauze and of course what's actually happening with the war? What happens to Ledo?

The Pirate chick on the ship could be interesting also.

When exactly the former Captain died inside Stryker seemed a little unclear.

Nevermind the haters, I personally loved this show a lot. I expected a bit more action when I saw the first episode but I'm totally fine with the slow paced slice of life part in the middle. I liked how Ledo slowly changed his opinion of the Galactic Union, or what are they called, and started to think for himself.

The part with the Hideauze was nice, perhaps some people called it but that doesn't change the fact it added a lot to the story and the reason why Ledo changed so much as he did in the last few episodes.

Plus I freaking love Chamber, man he's the best AI/Robot/Support System there'll ever be... :( I'm really going to miss this show though I think it ended in a good way.

9/10, very enjoyable and nice story overall.

I have to admit, the show started out really slow for me. Didn't really grasp me at first, so I put it on hold for a bit. The last few episodes caught my attention and I just got done with it right now. I loved the ending, though it was very predictable I enjoyed it.

Chamber's to good! I love how they made him understand human knowledge and feelings towards the end. This show has very strong messages throughout the whole series, something we can all learn from and use in our daily lives.

It was diffidently worth my time, even chocked me up a bit there at the end. 8/10 for me.

Lack of them don't make anime silly nor presence of them make anime serious.

There are two different sentences on two different lines telling about different things.
How the hell did they multiply in someones mind?

Loved it. I'm really surprised at how much I liked this show... it's got an interesting start, plenty of plot twists, great art and a nice ending. Sure, some questions weren't answered, but they don't even matter anyway. Ledo isn't going to be leaving Earth so he might as well live out the rest of his life in peace.

Didn't like the very cliche entrance of Amy at the end in Ledo's final battle, very very cliche. Some characters in the second half could have been better and more developed, as for Gargantia which was mostly forgotten in the 2nd half. Overall an entertaining series, the world of Gargantia was very beautiful, I like how most of humanity lived in a massive fleet of ships on an ocean covered planet. The characters where good; Ledo was an ok main character, Amy became little annoying at times, Pinion was a great character (arguably the best and most interesting one) and Chamber was epic till the end. The ending was very nice and refreshing, kinda been seeing too many series where main character or secondary ones die at the end. Also great music and amazing visuals.

Great show. Sometimes it was slow... which I enjoyed (slice-of-life episodes were awesome), until I realized this was only 13 episodes. It should've been longer... the ending felt slightly rushed when it came to the "antagonist."

Overall though, it was very well done and I am pleased to have finally watched it to the end.

I think the people who are passing this off as a 'kids show' are not very mature themselves.

The main reason being that while it definitely does appeal to kids because of the bright colors, sci-fi settings, and abundance of action, there are also many mature themes. Before you go and criticize minor issues in plot and put yourself on a high-and-mighty pedestal, ask yourself whether you really comprehended the ideas in the anime.
There's two kinds of people you can't win an argument against:
One - Too dumb to tell right from wrong.
Two - Too stubborn to admit they are wrong.

Well, it had a pretty happy ending after all. Chamber's moment was really sad, and would've been even sadder had I not stupidly spoiled him "relieving Ledo of his duty" just before the episode. Personally loved Chamber's final words... "Go to Hell, Tin Can!". I don't care if he's just an A.I. to some, what matters is he showed feelings... whether others consider them feelings or not! I also liked him bringing up his argument that humans who seek subservience are no longer humans at all. It seemed even more fitting somehow againt Stryker.

Overall, the series was pretty decent. It lacked in a few things, but it had an fairly happy ending, even though there probably will come a time that they may end up having to fight the "Whalesquids"... but I kinda doubt the Hideuze would forgive that slaughter so easily.

This. Seriously.. sure it wasn't the best series ever. But if anything, quality doesn't determine a target audience. There were some pretty fucked up things in this series, that I'm pretty sure would not set a good example for children. Multiple cases of mass genocide, being a leading factor.

I think too many people just expected this to be a strictly action show just because it has mechs. Sorry to disappoint people but this was a show about a soldier who's never known anything about war, suddenly dropping into a realm of people who live life in a way he literally could never have fathomed. Soon, he realizes that his whole life has been centered around a lie, and that there really are more important things than mindlessly slaughtering the enemies of people who probably deserve it. If you don't like the series, could you kindly throw such petty insults elsewhere. Or at least talk about what you didn't like in a more grown-up fashion.

Too bad, everything was perfect, but even with all this good things have managed to rub with their hands, stupid! Stake hurrying things too much, there was still a lot to say and to better define, the designs have dropped alarmingly and top it off we were left with a Hamlet-like question. It does or does not do a sequel? I'm sorry to write it, but this episode may not deserve the highest marks and the final grade of the series is a bit low! What can you do, is the way! XD

Chambeeeeeeeeeerrr!!! ;_; I loved that metalhead :( More like metalbro! He was so cool at the end :D
Pretty happy ending apart from Chamber. Expected nothing less and nothing more. We even got a nice hint at Amy x Ledo :D Too bad it didn't go further (yet) :D
Like I guessed the secret of Gargantia was an ancient weapon, kind of seemed a little bit out of the blue, but it was acceptable :) I also liked how Amy helped with it :)

All in all? It was great. I can see why people would be disappointed though, because they expected something different (like mecha action when it wasn't even about that). But I tought it did its job pretty well, showing us the life of a soldier who has only known and lived for war, and how he can put that mindset aside forever and live like any other normal human being.
I really liked the setting itself (Gargantia) and the life there (the little things as well, like the belly dancing :3 ), though I wish we could have seen more of it :( I could watch a SoL show of this :D
I really liked our two main characters (well, 3 with Chamber). Amy is just a kind young girl who you just can't not love, and Ledo was (like I said above) a troubled soldier who finally got to learn how to live, but not without having to, in a way, sacrifice his past and learn that coexistence between humans is possible, though not always easy.
The other minor characters were all good as well, didn't really have a problem with any of them (Pinion was kind of an ass though, even if he redeemed himself somewhat).
The animation was simply great, nothing more needed. The OST was good as well, though apart from one or two they were not that memorable. The OP was okay, however the ED was pretty good so I'll probably get it.

Since I only had some minor problems I'm gonna give the show a 9/10. Which means it's truly specialy in my eyes, though not yet a favorite. I hope they will make a 2nd season (at least a SoL anime if not more), but until then I'm gonna watch the 2 OVAs :) Though I heard they are probably not sequels :(

Chamber for the fcking WIN!! GO TO HELL TINCAN. Lmao that was so hilarious and awesome.

I have to say i really enjoyed this series. The whole premise of this human Leto trying to live in a society that is abnormal to his own. Watching him go through growth and change into the human he became by the end of the series and learning exactly what humans are and the revelation of the Hideaze. It was all very satisfying.

What really made me give this show a few extra points is when striker came to the planet and literally had his own society that he built him self, trying to change the world and its inhabitants to start a rebellion to take over the human race.

I really look forward to seeing more of this, the flaws of the show of course is some of the characters didn't get as much character devolopment as i would of hoped, namely amy, she was one of the mains not much was told bout her besides her just being a resident of gargantua and a mail delivery girl.

Though its not over, i smell a war taking place among the hidieaze, why else would they show that last scene, their up to something :p

I can't wait for a 2nd season.

Solid series, 8/10

Yup, so good!

Agreed, it was awesome when he made that argument against Striker. Actually that entire sequence showing how much Chamber had picked up from Ledo and the others just like Ledo has was fantastic I thought with Ledo just as open-jawed as everyone else.

Also, that line where Chamber says he expects great achievements in Ledo's life was damn touching too.

Oh, now i feel the nostalgia about Thames, time to listen the soundtrack again.

Edit: Thames job is to search for treasures or something like that in the sea right ? perhaps a reference ?

Perhaps, they do very similar things. The Thames searches the ocean/seas for ancient relics of the previous civilization just as the Gargantia does. I loved the Thames segment of Xenogears so very much, which is why I love Gargantia :)

This anime waited 9 months on my PTW, because I was afraid of disappointment and now I can say that this was something I was search for so longggg, why I don't watched it earlier!?

Author did amazing job describing his thoughts on future and evolution and closed everything in beautiful story. Battle scenes and action were able to catch attention same as relations between characters and interesting mech expressions. Original design of outfits and environment. Ending theme very climatic, only opening could be a bit better ;)

I drop score of Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 from 10 to 9 in favour of Suisei no Gargantia which has more fresh view on future life.
