I have a small impression i already made a similar thread in the past, but i don't seem to remember it, oh well. Long story short: During a big part of my childhood and early adolescence i was playing mainly Korean MMOs and posting in communities/foruns about them. There would always be a large group of people with Anime Signs/Avatars and occasional conversations/memes about them. Back in the day i didn't know much about anime, so i though that such people were awesome, not only because i liked even back then the anime aesthethic, but also because of the reason that led me to play LoL: "I don't have any idea of what they are talking about, but it sounds cool AF, i want to learn about it one day". And well, i'm here, so i did, eventually, learn about anime, but that's not the main focus, the main focus is what happened when i began to browse more than Korean MMO foruns. When i was 13 or so and was beggining to know about anime i used to tought with myself "Whoa, it has so many different genres, i don't think anyone can hate this", oh boy was i naive. It started with the brazillian LoL foruns, then other places, but the main place i saw it on Twitch, there i saw people who LEGIT hated both anime and it's fanbase, and chat would usually go apeshit whenever something anime related was on stream, be it Forsen/Witwix playing Nekopara ironically, or Kripp sponsoring Shadowverse. I know even the own anime community would often joke about it, usually via Hayao Miyazaki memes, in many anime groups in Brazil we used to have a shitpost which consisted in posting random skeleton images with "COME GET SOME, FILTHY WEEB" or some variation, but the people i saw, i'm almost safe to say, were not being ironical on that hate. |

REAL weebs are pretty cringey...they throw away their own identity to worship Japan, just because of some cartoons. Ironic since Japan is not very friendly towards foreigners. But, MOST anime fans are not weebs...not even close. Other than joking around, I don't actually think I've ever met a REAL weeb...so I think people are just fucking around. |

Well I don't know why people hate anime itself but when you say "weebs" I immediately think of people who use words like "Kawaii" or add honorifics to other people's names even though they aren't Japanese. Personally, I find weaboos very cringeworthy. I equate a weaboo to a kid that doesn't really know what is or isn't socially acceptable. The kids who use words that they either heard on a T.V show, heard a friend say, or just want to fit in with everyone else. To be honest, weaboos have actually ruined part of my life. I'm a avid YouTube user and recently started watching top 10 anime list to try and find new series to watch. Needless to say, youtubes recommendations went completely haywire. Next thing I know I'm seeing "Asuna is so KAWAII" or "top 10 Kawaii moments!" or "Mikisa is too Kawaii!!!!!". It's annoying. Now it's like I have a kid yelling in my face every time I go on YouTube. P.S, another reason would be that I knew a few kids in highschool (I didn't know anything about anime back then)that weighted 300 pounds and had greasy hair and wore the same hoodie all year round. When you overheard them talking it was about either Hentai or new anime coming out. Again, needless to say, talking openly about cartoon porn in highschool tends to invite negative attention. Especially when it's coming from a couple of fatass, greasy, weaboos. |

I guess it's because of the stigma anime and it's fans are associated with. Like you know how back in then people used to bully nerds for liking things that were considered "nerdy" like Harry Pottor or D&D. Now anime is normally associated with shut ins and NEETS or people that have no social skills that easily get triggered over the slightest things. I know that's not all of the anime community, but it people like them that people are more focused on and like to make fun of. |

For the same reason why anime fan call others casual pleb and having shit taste. Elitism. Internet always full of animosity where people want to look down on one another. Satou Tatsuhiro said: (Welcome to the N.H.K) It's natural for a person to deny he's a failure as a human being. That's why he searches for somebody who is more miserable than himself. That's why so much animosity exists on the internet. Those who aren't able to find a more miserable person, turn to the internet and call other people losers, even though they've never met. Just to make themselves feel superior. Isn't that pathetic? There's a sense of security that comes from speaking badly of someone else. But that isn't true salvation. http://www.less-real.com/quotes/search/Satou%20Tatsuhiro |

If you mean actual "weebs" then there's a clear explanation as to why they would dislike them. Heck, there will be actual anime watchers that dislike people like that when they disregard their own country and just to embrace Japan. Nothing wrong with liking the medium or Japan but it's one thing to appreciate Japan, and there's another thing where it literally takes it to another level. Funny enough I saw this one episode of a show while it is extremely poorly executed (because it gives a bad interpretation of what anime fans are like) I think the best to reflect it is with that. When it comes to weebs, people dislike them because they can go as far as disregarding their own culture and beliefs, and hence with that trying to become Japanese themselves, which I can understand why people would find that extremely cringe-worthy, especially when you have Non-Japanese speakers trying to speak in Japanese without using the words right, or using Japanese within their own language (now I wanted to clarify I don't have anyone against speaking Japanese if they're from another country but there's a difference between knowing how to use it in proper context and using it in a different one where it just feels like a jumbled loads of mess). Heck the episode thing that I showed from the series in question even went to the extent of making the protagonists dress as anime characters and one of them took it very literal. Generally this is a social issue where it can lead to many outcomes. When it comes to anime in general, people would either be misinformed or when they see people that are like that, they would think that they're weird as shit or just "Weebs who only spend 24/7 on their houses and do nothing with their lives" or something along the lines. I know that while yes, there are people that do that ironically, I can get what you mean when people say stuff unironically. Of course, as someone said: This is the internet, so whatever they say over here doesn't affect them in any way as long as they feel good about it or they feel proud of it. If it is pure hate. The best thing to do is to just mostly ignore those people and try to stay away from them as much as possible, because at the end of the day that's just them doing their usual thing, same can be applied with anyone in any medium/community, if that makes sense, because people tend to generalize a group of people for nothing but baseless things. |

With regards to hate on actual weebs, they are annoying as fuck. Anyone who is so obsessed with something that they throw away their own culture/ identity over is stupid, especially one who is so vocal and "in your face" about it. The reality is that neither the anime community nor the anime industry would notice that you were gone if you disappeared, yet your dedication to such things forced those close to you to despise you and might even be relieved at your disappearance. With regard to irrational hatred towards anime, who cares? It's not worth your time thinking about anyone shallow enough to get so upset over something that probably doesn't even concern them, especially when they likely know close to nothing about that something. |

The word weeaboo has been overused to the point where it barely means anything at this point. It's just a word dub elitists like to use when they find anybody who doesn't like their favorite dub or edgelords use because they think it makes them look cool. Real weeaboos do exist but they're a rarity. |

Because if you look, the only popular thing about anime worldwide is Attack on Titan, hentai and viral videos of Japanese men marrying body pillows. This of course would make any "normal" person feel confused and people hate what they don't understand. And thanks to Filthy Frank videos, they've realized the word "weeaboo" is a harmful insult to such anime fans. |

"Muh Chinese cartoons are holier than thou" To be perfectly honest I've never met any "true" weeb to form a solid opinion about them. All that I've witnessed is the illusion of "weeb" created by internet users and then bashed by internet users. When you try to catch this "illusion" of weeb, then all you can see is this illusion, confined by its "existence", chasing the non-exist meaning of weeb and in turn get (butt) hurt by it. I always think of it as a joke, an illusion which is created for the sake of joke but when people try to push a "serious" sense into the joke and as result it gets too serious, it become a tedious, cringey and overused joke. Trying to take a joke in serious view is quite troublesome in the first place after all. thewiru said: Weeb and Otaku do not have the same meaning though. At this point, because of overusage, weeb and otaku mean the same thing, so i'll use the shorter word. |

@Cactii - To be fair, this thread is showcasing why the term weeb bugs me to no end. I don't know OP and I have nothing against OP, but some people tend to care way to much about what others do and call them weebs for such petty reasons. Not as a joke either, but to shame them. Using this development as an example. OP claims these people will not play games that arent anime style and feels the need to shame them over it. This is what absolutely breaks any sound logic.Instead of letting people play or watch what they want for whatever reasons they might be, people feel the need to actually care. Its troubling because this whole story is a non issue and its best to let these people do them. Its their life. I see this so often. |
