I really don't like when anime spoils stuff with intro segments like that. Otherwise it was fantastic.

And if anyone was confused, that red-haired girl in the intro segment was Chtolly/Kutori. I don't know why it turned red but if you look close enough or just pause you can see it's totally her and that she even has little stands of blue hair still. I guess she went her version of super Saiyan.

I'm looking forward to seeing that dragon-headed dude from the ED.

Look back at the scene when several peoples comes for Kutori (when they are on the top of the tower with the beautiful scenery). You technically already met him :).

Just went back and noticed as well. So would this be another one of your recommended LNs, Zef?

I don't know what you mean by "res" but it's a storytelling method I don't like. It still spoils it for me. I'd rather see events in chronological order. Knowing sad things are gonna happen long before they actually happen weakens their impact when they do happen. It's also why I shed no tear in KimiUso. I knew that ending was coming from episode 1 because the made it too obvious. It then just felt dragged out. In this anime, for example if they were to show me Kutori die in that intro clip I would have a hard time investing my feelings into her as I watched the show, since I would know it's a waste of my emotion. I hope she doesn't die because the mood they set up suggests she will and I feel like that would be too predictable now thanks to this intro segment hinting at it.

More importantly, this anime does not have enough lolis in it.

That was a very atmospheric episode.

I honestly like a lot of the stuff I'm seeing. Interesting world building and backstory. Hopefully they build some more on that.

That opening at the very start does kind of scare me.

Oh and I just read that the LN author is helping with making the anime? Oh that's good news! I've heard good things about this LN so it would be a shame if like so many other anime the anime studio decides to skip some stuff.

Cant wait for this anime to rekt me.

Good post credit scene, them talking about how creators do nasty things to their characters gives me high hopes.

Needless to say, I finish all anime I start, no matter my initial opinion, no matter how bad it gets, I WILL FINISH IT!

What a refreshing 1st ep!
This ep was well-paced and introduced a lot !
I really have high hope for this one, maybe even way too much because I think I'm gonna read the LN right now x)

Ok I'm very hyped now ^^

This first episode was very interesting and enjoyable but the opening scene scares me. Pretty cute and lighthearted but the melancholic atmosphere is there.

With luck this would be AOTS (barring sequels)

It's got lots of stiff competition this season and it's only 12 episodes so I wouldn't be to sure on that. I enjoyed the first episode a lot myself, but as premieres go Shingeki no Bahamut S2 and AoT S2 are leaving a stronger impression on me as well as most people. I think was better opener than Grimoire of Zero however. ERASED also proved you can't rely on drama alone to win over a lot of anime fans since that show too started off riding a wave of feels then petered out at the end. Eventually it was was mostly forgotten by the end of the year.

It's actually become more common to involve the original authors in the process of production for some time now. The show one the story end still mostly rests on the Director and Series Composition through.

Just finished the episode few minutes ago.

Yes!! I think I found my anime of the season with this at least from the pacing towards the character interactions, atmosphere and pretty much everything I looked for. Yes I know I have Grimoire of Zero which was pretty good and all... but well this had everything I'm looking for.

Btw I actually like the little girls and they're so cute xD and I also like Wilheim. Heck he could hear every single one of the questions, as well as him being super sweet and kind :3

that was painful to watch, so boring, character design is bad, premise is bad, setting is bad, random action scene is bad, dialogues are boring, they went meta in the after credits scene, preview scene looks generic and even more boring. dropped.

why can't fantasy setting anime be as good as bahamut

Yep, they're mostly consultants. Some do help out a little with the script from time to time though.

I know what you said. My point is that nobody is gonna make that distinction nor will it stop from being possibly overshadowed hence why still said that despite your conditional. Even if we gonna put it into a criteria like that it still has Grimoire of Zero, Sakura Quest, Re:Creators and whole host of others it's fighting for that spot. It's not means a foregone conclusion even with that handicap, this season just too strong for one mostly unknown show to dominate so easily. It's got a chance, but it's not as high you claim imo.

Compared to the insert song, the ending feels almost disappointing. It's not really, but the direct comparison makes it look almost out of place.
Ah, so the prologue of the novel is put after the ending, all right.

I personally thought the ed fit great, because they want to show you the 2 sides of what this show stands for. The happy times with the little children as well the as the much sadder moments.

I'm just more surprised that they wanted to spoil so much in the opening scene since the red hair color is a pretty major plot point.

So are only 4 of the 5 novels translated into English so far with the 5th/final one still to be translated? Just want to make sure that I found the right place to read them since i probably will after the anime finishes.

Yes, the 4th is in the process of being translated. The 5th is the final volume. And there's a sequel novel (not yet translated)

It was a good adaptation so far. Loved the OST in particular.

I have a feeling they are aiming to adapt up to Vol 3 now looking at the beginning scene (which would be a good stopping point).

A man eating maid and some loli fighter ? I think I'm gonna like this a lot.
Overall it was a good start, the music was definitely the highlight followed by the adorable quartet of girls. The setting is also interesting. Seems very promising so far.

I don't disagree with the general sentiment, but it must be noted that it's not really as simple as "beasts=bad, humans/human-like people=good" in this story. Saying anything more would be kind of spoiler-y but point is there's more to it than that =P
