Akira meets Gunslinger Girl, but minus all qualities worth having.

I got the poorly crafted Gunslinger Girls vibe from it as well, Akira not really. But for the most part, it's certainly not a completed product, and it wasn't a good commercial either. We're supposed to somehow empathize with the suffering of the girls-assassins that have their parents and loved ones wired to blow up if they were to fail their mission or betray their contractor. It's a buzzword I'd avoid using, but all I've got out of it was pure unadulterated edge of the psssh nothin personnel kid variant. What's also weird is that the original concept supposedly had Anthea as the main character, but she barely got any screen time in this miserable promo. The only thing worth of any praise was the English used by the American soldiers (even though some of the dialogue felt awkwardly written, lines like "The Flower is wounded, shoot her anyway", in a situation where it's not even a question if they should eliminate her).

I had slight hopes it would turn out entertaining as the original LWA OVA which was also funded by a Kickstarter. Supposedly the production team felt as if they would have issues with exerting their creative freedom and the project possibly flopping due to consuming trends, but ironically this turned out worse than the "otaku bait" they were avoiding to make.

Iirc a few of the key original producer/creators signed on at the kickstarter bailed out, so that's possibly the telling part for the direction change.

Akira mostly for the mish-mash of monstrosity, motorcycle, and telekinesis. But to be honest, I can barely remember the film, and I called it up as a byword for those sci-fi/action sort OVA-era anime those 'western' fans often have a predilection for.

I used DomDomSoft Manga Downloader to, well, download it. It's basically the same as the anime though.

That is if you've figured out how to read manga, for some of us that is a purely theoretical enterprise.
DomDomSoft closed, you can still download old manga if you have the files but you can't get new sites you don't have or update with new manga.

The ED is blocked in the US....or some of them are.

Also the OST is so much better than the ED on so many levels. Also I can't listen to the ED too much or I'll just get even sadder.

Nozaki-kun then, that should be everyone-approved. ( ̄~ ̄;)

And Rolling Girls is extremely underrated and fun. I know, because /a/ unironically memes about it being AOTY.

Iono, problem is I watch/read more comfy things than people in here give me credit for. So I've already gone through these options. :weary: *shrug*

I'm literally looking for something to pull me out of the chamber of solemn introspective contemplation where

iunno, what level of healing works here?

does healing anime even heal to begin with, or does it just salt the wound with temporary relief

maybe is this escapism

I think SAO is all I have left.

And tfw you still haven't watch Tsubasa Chronicle.

Romeo x Juliet also randomly popped up in my mind, that felt super fresh back when I watched it during a burnout. It's not healing but it has a very specific relaxing atmosphere with its romance, very comparable to Tsubasa Chronicle I reckon.
