And it's pretty dumb to say that the World government are the antagonists.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antagonist
An antagonist is a character, group of characters, institution, or concept that stands in or represents opposition against which the protagonist(s) must contend. In other words, an antagonist is a person or a group of people who opposes a protagonist.

World Govt as a villain group is quite debateable but World Govt in One Piece as antagonist is a fact considering OP protagonist is Pirate which is the supposed villains in OP world.

Well, since Luffy and co are the protagonists and the WG is against them, they officially qualify as antagonists. Of course, the organization is so huge that it is hard to assign it any one role. Some members actually help the Strawhats while others are against them.

In the end, it's hard to pick any one organization for One Piece because each Shichibukai has their own, the WG is very varied and the Yonkou also have individual organizations.

Antagonist=/=villain

And it's pretty dumb to say that the World government are the antagonists. That's like saying that the Hunter Association in HxH are the protagonists

Of course technically speaking, antagonist =/= villain, but in most cases people use the term villain, you can tell they really mean antagonist and you therefore just run with it.

And no it isn't dumb. What's dumb is missing the significance of

"You've just declared war on the WG" means exactly what it sounds like.

That's like saying the Empire in Star Wars is not an antagonist, or the Umbrella Corp in Resident Evil.
It doesn't matter if it is an individual or an organization: if they antagonize the protagonist, they're an antagonist.

Genei Ryodan (Phantom Troupe) are my favourite.
Not all the Shichibukai are "villains", each has their own motives and generally does their own thing.

Again, the WG is a massive organisation of individuals with various characters having their agendas, several of which are not antagonizing towards pirates. Just because the protagonists are pirates and the WG is as a whole against pirates doesn't mean that it is an antagonistic organisation. That's the logic behind the HA example.

So, There's this organisation that keep going after the protagonist head and the protagonist clearly declare war against the said organisation.

An organisation.

Luffy is not only fighting against the WG but also against other pirates. Should be also say that Pirate groups are antagonists too?

An organisation. lol.
Well, Of course it is.
But in Pirate case that goes against Luffy crew, it's classified as 'villain' because most of the Pirate that Luffy fought against is evil.
And example with HA is not even related in the slightest, as long as HA didn't antagonizing Gon and co, they' anything but Antagonist or villain.
And the thing with WG being a antagonist is NOT because they're against Pirates but because they're directly antagonizing Luffy and crew several times already.

Ayy PT is leading? imo I don't see Phantom Troupe being the 'best'. As an organisation, they are just a bunch of thieves and murderers and their goals are still unclear. As for the gang, Pakunoda is the only saving grace among its dull members so far. Good thing there's more to come in the future, I hope so. For now my vote goes to Akatsuki.

It's kind of strange that Phantom Troupe has so many votes. It's a very interesting and mysterious organization but the characters were not developed very much, nor were their relationships explored. Tbh I don't even remember all the members' names. I hope that Togashi will put them on the limelight if he continues the series, because we don't know a lot about them.

That's my point, some pirates are villains, some aren't, same for the WG. It's too broad to put it under an umbrella like that.

There are some antagonizing hunters too, like Illumi, Shalnark, Hisoka, Paris etc

I really don't think they have any goal beyond stealing and personal gain. From what I remember they showed a little bit of flashback of the founding members during Pakunda inner monologues, and they just seem to be strong individuals that are bonded and from rough/poor backgrounds united for mutual beneficial but maybe I'm wrong their might be a big reason for their loyalty and strong bonds.

Terrible comprehension much? When I said HxH fan always surprise me, I do mean that. I don't see how that is a bad thing, "Jojo fans make me laugh", can you prove that they don't make me laugh? You are not me, I am speaking about myself that HxH fans surprise me, nothing more nothing less.

"Some" is the reason I replied anyway since I don't consider any phantom troupe member beside the one I named being developed.

"Some" means at least one, so he can perfectly be referring to Pakunoda only. I called generalisation because you're the one trying to be surprised if it's based on preconceptions about the fanbase like these. So my bad, rather than generalisation, let's say confirmation bias.

He said "Some of them are", I don't know what kind of english you read but above part isn't refering to a single character. I hope not. There's still plenty room there since many of them have not been received enough focus. There must be a reason why PT was formed. If anything I believe it will have to do with the current state of their homeland, Meteor City. The city was abandoned and treated like a dumping ground which is why they (the founding members) have strong bonds and unquestioning loyalty. So I'm inclined to agree with the theory that their true objective would be related with 'revolution' or something along the lines as vaguely shown in a flashback when they were young.

I did not mean just Pakunoda, obviously, but I do admit that some members have little or no development, hence why I said some.

I felt that Chrollo, Feitan, Machi, Pakunoda, Nobunaga, Phinks, Uvo, Shalnark and Shizuki were developed decently (again, obviously some more than others - no need to nitpick).

1. Again GR are winning by a landslide because you included a non-shonen among shonen.

2. It's really dumb to think of Shichibukai as an organization. They are not. Just different people seated in a similar position and are in no other way affiliated with each other. Hell, each of them may have his own Akatsuki.

Most prominent (crappy) org. From OP are CP9 and Baroque Works.

What's also retarded is saying GR had no development, which translated to "naruto-style evil-justifying sob story flashback".

They were definitely fleshed out. People focus so much on shitty flashbacks they forget real storytelling and fleshing out can take time in the present.
We know far more characteristics and dynamics about GR than we ever will about Akatsuki.

Have we ever seen Kisame and Hidan interact? How do they feel about each other? Konan and Kakuzu?
All we ever got from that scene where they were together is some dude trash talking some other dude.

But we've seen in just 5 episodes how each member of GR regards another. How they would react if this happens or that. They are a real team.

That's exactly why. They had 1/20th of the screentime of Akatsuki yet 20 times the quality, making them about 400 times better. They were something new. Something unconventiomal. Very catchy, interesting, and even stylish despite the simple designs. They have great chemistry together.

Akatsuki? We see them two at a time, getting killed one by one. There is an obvious pecking order. Not really an interesting group when they are just goons and fodder for the super kool Painzxxx

I wouldn't put much stock in polls. There are a variety of things that affect them, like some users who are well known for using alts, restriction to only regular forum users, people who have only seen 1 or 2 of the series and small sample size.

The Phantom Troupe are interesting, but I've hardly seen the best of them yet. I don't feel like there's too much to talk about them and as characters they need some work (Pakunoda had a little screen time going for her, but that's it). Togashi, you fucker, work on them.
