Well it was a close match and Maruo gave it all. Guess Nabae is just a bit better.

Still, both players earned my respect in this episode/series' finale.
Good match overall. Is it also just me or does Maruo seem to be slightly more nervous? At least by some of his reactions...

8/10. I enjoyed this season just as much as the previous.

As expected Mauro lost, but he has improved leaps and bounds, especially considering he's an extremely late bloomer. All that matters is that he achieved his goal of qualifying for All-japan jrs, which is what he needs in order to convince his parents to let him stay chasing the Pro dream.
Thoroughly enjoyed the season. Deals with the proper side of tennis, taking away all that unecessary special-move and physics-defying stuff that sports animes might be tempted to have.
Hoping for a S3!

10/10 for me.

Holy shit. Maruo actually lost. That was a bittersweet ending. Despite his loss, it's amazing how much he's accomplished in such a short time. His parents should be proud. Looking forward to a Season 3.

Felt slightly upset when Maruo lost, I guess he needs to prepare himself more before defeating Nabae.

Didn't he said that if he lost against Nabae he would give up at Tennis and go wherever his mother wanted him to go? He said that in previous episodes..

Overall 09/10, I definitely enjoyed this series and I look forward to an upcoming season 3 ^_^

I think he said that he will quit tennis if he does not win the All Junior tournament.

After I finished the episode I realized that the biggest spoiler that Ei-chan will lose was the number of episodes as there was no time for full last match for championship. :) . All in all I expected him to lose as otherwise the all-junior championship would be boring if the last boss was already defeated at this point. Well that is only one of the points, other is that Nabae is a beast and trying new things in the match, as good as it might sound, isn't really winning strategy. What use would have all those hours of training if you were to train new things during the match. Spots aren't that simple like sometimes anime's show, characters coming up with an ultimate technique that they never used and it works right away. I like how they do it in baby steps, Ei-chan does comes up with new things during the match, fail miserably while doing so but then after a training session he can somewhat pull it off, adding new weapon to his arsenal.

But this was another great season of Baby steps. I the beginning I was little scared of the fact that it will lose it's tune, as it used to be that from zero to 'somewhat good player. At the beginning of the season Ei-chan is in America, so that was the scariest part. The should could easily change, but it didn't, and it was just like it always was.

Looking forward to the season 3, if it never comes I will go read the manga.

Well it was a really good match but damn no announcement for a season 3 and the ending seems like an anime ending.I just hope they won't take many years for anew season or finish it like this.

Really enjoyed this season. As much as the previous tbh.

That match in the end was also pretty damn cool, although I really thought that Maruo would win.

Ah well 8/10 from me.

It's ironic that I felt more dissapointed when there's no Announcement of SEASON 3 at the end of the episode than Marou losing the game. Hahaha

I can't believe Maruo lost again to a ref call on the wire. Nothing ever goes his way, haha.

Also, does it bother anyone else that Maruo never watches any of Natsu's games(even when she's in the finals?). He's kinda a bad boyfriend...

That really was one amazing match! Maruo's unrelenting aggressiveness was simply admirable, even with all those mistakes, he didn't even back down, and made it to an even stronger weapon. When Maruo would be able to control his hits as he envisioned it, being unstoppable would be an understatement.

A racket tester too at that, glad that his efforts isn't going unrecognized.

Amazing match. Loved the fast pace, the intensity was real!

I just love how Maruo uses tough matches to try new stuff and learn from his mistakes.
Best way to train is experience and that's what he does best.
The growth he's been thru is insane. Being able to match Nabae that much after just a year. And now he gets his own rackets :D

The best thing was how Nabae technically sacrificed his final match to try out some new stuff since he's worried about how much stronger Maruo's gonna be in the nxt tournament XD
The way he stared at Maruo after losing not even caring about Araya says a hell lots about Maruo's threat.

I don't give AF. Giving this a 10/10
First season was a 9 and this was even better.

Baby Steps is consistently fantastic. I was 99% sure that Maruo was going to lose the last match, so that the inevitable Maruo vs Nabae All-Japan Junior match would be more dramatic, but it still had me guessing all the way to the end. I was also eagerly anticipating a Season 3 announcement after the ED, but hopefully that confirmation comes sometime soon.

Season 3 when?

Anyways, 9/10 final verdict from me. Very rare for anime that every episode feels like it's 5 minutes, not 20 minutes. Perhaps the best sports anime out there, even better than Ippo.

Even though Maruo lost, the final set was still friggin' epic! You can tell it shook Nabae up pretty good. The way he's improving, Ei-chan in bound to be on par with all the top class players, if not surpass them.

Hopefully we'll get an announcement for S3 in near future.

What I love about Baby Steps as a sports anime is that you can't predict who the victor will be. I had a guess that it was Nabae (Maruo's rival) but in that moment of suspense when the tennis ball was in air and going across the field, I started doubting myself. Even so, no matter who won, it was satisfying till the end.

Maruo has really grown as a character these last two seasons (2.5 years)- he's gotten physically stronger and more endurant, he's learned how to read the movement and intentions of his opponents, he's learned various strategies that work for him, and most of all: he doesn't let his losses get to him too much but improves from them. I can only admire his determination. He's worked hard for it and it's only right that the people who surround him acknowledge it: his friends, girlfriend (Natsu picks well), teachers, and rivals. From his first loss to Nabae, he's skyrocketed leaps and bounds. Well done, Maruo. The world of professional tennis is almost in front of you. A few more steps.

I honestly can't imagine how much stronger he can get or how any matches can beat the ones shown in this season. It'll definitely amazing to watch him become pro and beat not only Nabae, Araya, but also Alex, Takuma, and especially Ike. Baby Steps is definitely up there in my favorite sports anime even though the animation isn't a stand out. SEASON THREE! At least I have Haikyuu! S2 to invest into now. :)

Damn, that was close!!! Well, close, but in a way Nabae still outclassed him. If Maruo's gonna beat him at the All-Japan Junior, it's not gonna be on pure skill.

Now begins the wait for 3rd season announcement. Oh man, I need it bad!

does anyone know whether the anime follow the manga or not?
if it does, which chapter should i read next for continuation?

as for the episode, it kinda sad that Maruo lost because he is playing aggressively thus making some mistakes. i know that he is going to lose, but i thought he would only lost after fully utilizing his 1/100 control.
