The bullshit he had to put up with his entire life up until meeting Nagi (having to work his butt off to support himself and his parents, only to have them leave him with a 150,000,000 yen debt because they used their own son as a gambling bet then ditched him without a word, resulting in him being hunted down and having to try kidnapping someone in order to get some money). Can't get much more pitiful than that. |

| There are many, but I'm going to pick Yaichi from the "House of Five Leaves". He was so sure of himself in the beginning that the ending really undone him, I wanted to hug him. Also Dio from Last Excile, considering that his sister was Delphine things with him could have gone much much worse. The scene at the end where all of his screws went complete missing was very sad. |

| Would agree with some already mentioned like Guts and most of the cast in Shiki. I would add Rika from Higurashi , she went through some shit that's for sure... repeatedly, I think they say well over 100 times. |
