I fricking knew it! Yano and Hiraoki really did know each other. Oh man, felt so satisfying to see their interaction. Would love to know more about both their pasts.

Also, that blast to the past was amazing. It was really cool to see the older characters of the show in their early days, and knowing that they're still doing anime stuff 40 years later truly does feel inspiring.

What an amazing episode!

5/5 I almost cry

This episode is one of the best, it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling, the past of the original Musani and its member, i seriously pity people who didn't give this anime chance.

Now if only zuka-chan achieve her dream of becoming a voice actor, all is well in good.

All the pickled plum parts were great :)

The flashback was also amazing. Although it was a stressful time in the studio, everyone just loved what they were doing.

The contrast of Hiraoka and Iketani with the old anime studio and Ōkura was a nice touch. I wonder if Iketani's passion for his job will rekindle by the time he's done with this Musani job.

Then we top it off with the ending scene of Ōkura telling Miyamori how he became a background artist while it cut around to all the works he's done and while was drawing the ruins. Then the reveal of it at the end was beautiful. Ahh, such a heartwarming scene 😊

It was eye-opening to see Yano and Hiraoka's conversation about Miyamori because I understand that not everyone likes the gung-ho visionaries like Miyamori. To us she seems admirable but to veterans she's just someone who hasn't been in the industry long enough to be jaded with all the bullshit production assistants have to go through.

Yeah, that's cool and all but I still dislike Hiraoka. All he does is whine, sigh and complain. It's easy to give in to peer pressure, it takes more effort to be the change you want to see, like Miyamori is. And sure, she is probably a pain in the ass often, but I'd much rather work with someone like her than a whiny edgelord like Hiraoka. Miyamori infects people with energy and will probably drive her company and the industry to better things, while Hiraoka just drags people back to the status quo.

The complacency and the "it can't be helped" attitude of people like Hiraoka definitely isn't helping the industry. If animators getting paid by the hour ever becomes an industry standard (as it already should be but whatever), the ones responsible for the change won't be people like him.

What you wanna bet some poor keyframe artist really subjected herself and her friends to the plums in order to get that scene *just* right? Make me smile and wince at the same time. Loved this episode.

I suddenly see why animation cels are so rare/expensive on eBay...they get damaged quite easily.

Through the magic of anime, we were sent back in time to the production of Andes Chucky, which seems to have shown both the viewing audience and Aoi that anime production has always had its troubles and its strengths.

That look into the past was really nicely done, showed that back then things weren't so different after all. I think that's something that can be projected into the real world as well, anime these days isn't better or worse than it was before.

I kind of wish the anime went a bit farther with the older anime aesthetic when showcasing Andes Chucky by having the voice acting sound a bit more rough around the edges like how a lot of classic anime sound back then, as well as having the lighting not be as bright and have more of a retro-like filter to them. But other than that, it was really cool seeing Aoi take a trip down memory lane with the past of the president, who talked about how anime was produced back in the day along with his other peers, especially when cels were used for drawings and animation back in the day, long before digital animation was conceived.

Even back then, the production process was stressful and fun, like how it is nowadays so while many things can change through generations, the emotions for creating anime should remain the same. Especially after knowing that Andes Chucky was created by Musashino Pictures studio, which was bankrupt before Musashino Animation became a thing, it hit Aoi pretty hard with emotions and nostalgia seeing Andes Chucky again in its original form at the studio where her favorite anime was conceptualized and drawn out. Makes her appreciate the glory days of animation a lot more, and the medium in general too with how creative and passionate it is throughout the generations, hopefully giving her the confidence that she would be able to be a part of a great anime one day with her own comrades from the Animation Club (Midori and Shizuka included along with the trio already working at Musashino Animation). And honestly, makes me appreciate it more too.

Andes Chucky best opening,
"The future is always blank. Only your willpower can leave footsteps there."

"Ruling over death means ruling over life. Death is the climax of life. To have the best death, you must honor life."

Loved that episode. Shirobako has like everything. There’s episodes that are pure comedy gold, and episodes like this that make you wanna cry xD
And I love the character development in general. Also the fact that everything production related getting explained while still staying interesting for people who are familiar with it anyways
