Why would someone refuse to watch an anime? You don't know wether you'll like it or not until you've tried it.

Anything from Ghibli. I know Ghibli movies are good but the word 'Ghibli' itself makes me not interested. Doesn't make sense, I know.

-10)Animes/Mangas with "Pokemon Arc Plots". Going somewhere -> Defeat a villian.

-9)Animes/Mangas with Snatch Moments. When the Big Badass Villain just makes a stupid face when the hero uses his last-breath attack.

-8)Animes/Mangas where katanas are the Absolute Weapons who can cut eveything and tranforms anyone who hold one into a great swordmaster.

-7)Animes/Mangas with Godlike Powers and Domination K.Os. Most of time, It's over-the-top stylish with a huge lack of substance.

-6)Animes/Mangas where the plot is "Highschool vs Fantasy". The world is under the protection of teenage-schoolboys/girls.

-5)Animes/Mangas with Fanservice Overuse. Ecchi or Gory, It's brainless.

-4)Animes/Mangas with Powers of Friendship. A lame reason to make everyone cry, give Deux-Ex-Machina Power-Ups or tell "Humans are the best things in the universe, the Chosen ones"

-3)Animes/Mangas with "Kamina-like" Big-Head and/or Psycho-Samurai girls. They're annoying and obnoxious as hell.

-2)Animes/Mangas with action and SAO-Final Fantasy-Shining-Tales of-Blazblue charac-design. I can't stand this "Teenage J-Pop" design anymore.

-1)Animes/Mangas with Monster Hunt plot. I've more empathy for creatures than protagonists and most of elements mentioned above are in.

Of course, It has exceptions (Monster Musume for N°5 for example) but mostly, Its those elements who make me avoid some anime/mangas.

Cowboy Bebop. I saw like one episode and I really don't get all the hype about it. People treat it like it's the greatest thing ever. May give it a shot and watch the whole thing once I clear out some of the anime on my backlog. I did love Samurai Champloo, so maybe I might like it, not sure. I'm not really into those episodic anime, cause they literally have next to no storyline whatsoever. I like anime that has an actual story to it, otherwise I will lose interest completely, hence why there are so many anime On-Hold on my list.

It was only focused on for like 5 episodes. Anyone going into cowboy Bebop should go with the mentality that it is episodic.

Anything which I can't download in 1080p.

On a serious note, I can't really get myself to watch any of those 300+ episode shounen such as One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, Fairy Tail, etc. which are like 30% filler, I'd rather read the manga than waste hours and hours in filler garbage.

The only anime I refuse to watch is One Piece! It just seems so stupid to me!

I've expanded my horizons a lot in the last few years, this list would have been longer but I actually watched most of those that I swore off and actually enjoyed them!
So glad that I'm not a huge manga reader, because the manga readers WHINE WAY TOO MUCH and have to RUIN every adapted anime for the ANIME ONLY WATCHERS!

Whatever i do i cannot watch Clannad, everyone tells me how amazing it is. I watched one episode and was bored out of my mind and my friends replied with "yeah the whole first season is boring but i gets better later"... There is no way im going to bore myself for an entire season of an anime.

Actually you should bore your self with an entire season because After Story is totally worth it. i was like you, it took me about a month to finish the first season, and i didn't regret it because After Story is truly amazing.

Same here. People aso told me to watch the first season only to understand the second.

I definitely wouldn't want to watch the second season if the first one bored me to death, no matter what people say.

I used to say that I'd never watch One Piece for the same reason but after watching several fantastic anime above 25 episodes and desperately wishing that the show were longer, I don't have a problem with OP's length at all. Series like Monster, Hunter x Hunter (2011), FMAB, Chihayafuru (both seasons) and Hikaru No Go proved to me that as long as an anime is great, who gives a shiz about how long it is. In fact, the longer it is the better. What's discouraging me now from watching OP are the criticisms I've read of other people about it, in addition to the fact that I didn't like the few episodes that I've seen. I've heard that the series really gets going at the Alabasta arc but I'm not willing to watch 30+ episodes to find out. I'm still open to watching Naruto though but I just can't get myself to start.

Anime based on card-games, toys, merchandise, and videogames, usually. There's also things ragnarr pointed out like Marvel and PPG anime. Anime based on these things are almost guaranteed to have bland plots.

Anything Gundam-related is a no for me. I have a general dislike for sci-fi and mecha.

Specifically, I avoid watching One Piece and I think I'm going to pass on Bleach and Hunter x Hunter as well.
One Piece doesn't interest me and the art is too silly for my tastes.
Same with Bleach, and the art and animation don't seem very good.
And with HxH, I don't like the story or characters enough to sit through so many episodes.

I don't consider myself a Naruto fan in that I can't say I like it very much, really. I enjoyed it when I was younger but now I'm pretty indifferent to it. Dropped the anime, even. There's just too many fillers and worthless characters coupled with an uninteresting story.

I've sat through a few episodes since a person I'm living with watches it on the telly. While mildly engaging, I don't think I could ever muster enough motivation to sit through it all. It lacks impact on me. The characters don't register with me on a personal level and the story seems uninteresting.

The 2011 one? I see you liked Kill la Kill but even that took a while for the plot to kick in. The Hunter Exam isn't as engaging as the latter arcs, so if you wanted a long runner that was worth it, HxH is the way to go.

Basically this. And also long-running anime. I watched about two season of Fairy Tail, and that's it. Too long for me. But the interest is still there. Like One Piece. Although I've never watch a single episode of it, one day I probably would.

But recently I picked up Gintama, and dang I got hooked up with it.
