Sapewloth said: Excuse me but, where did you ever read "glasses" in my post? It's not like it's the only change in MC-kun's chara design: the haircut is a tiny bit different and the the clothing style was (understandably so) upgraded to the 2010's. That's what I was referring to. And I think get where you're coming from with keeping the 80's-90's style, but that Jojo comparison doesn't work simply because the Jojo stories follow a timeline that starts in the late 19th and goes up to the present day (Steel Ball Run excluded).
Of course they'd have to keep each part in their respective timeframe.
Now if you want my honest opinion on the glasses, they're just a random addition that alone, should not hinder a former manga reader's enjoyment of the show in any way, shape or form (granted Madhouse do their job on the characterization part). If anything the glasses even add a bit more to the "averageness" vibes gave off by Sinichi at the beginning of the story. And my guess is he'll eventually take 'em off as he further develops (cause combing your hair back sure isn't cool anymore lol). So yeah, no big deal. Uh, maybe you've just breezed through my post because I've addressed more than just his glasses, but I do that too I guess, so i'm not one to criticize. I don't think his hair is anything worth talking about anyway, it's pretty similar to the way it was in the manga, which is still nothing out of the ordinary
When people talk about the change in Shinichi's character design the addition of glasses seemed to be the most blatant and controversial topic to me, and i've seen the 'modern look' argument used to justify any change in his character design, which I found stupid. Sorry for any confusion. About his uniform- Since I don't live in Japan I don't know how the usual school-clothing fare works there, but I doubt it's even half as flashy as anime portrays it to be. The manga's uniform design were as plain as it gets; which I liked.
Honestly if there's one thing in the change of character design which really rubbed me the wrong way it's the change in some of the female character design, some completely plain, homely looking gals turned into:
Which is worrying.
A production team that isn't afraid to take some liberties is good, but I just hope it doesn't get out-of-hand, y'know.
The Jojo comparison was more directed solely to SC since it's the only part that's set in the 80's. And it does tell, with stuff like the bulky televisions Joseph uses his hermit purple on and the lack of things like cellphones and so on... It would be more than just a little weird if Jonathan had a cellphone or a computer.
>And my guess is he'll eventually take 'em off as he further develops
I guess this makes more sense to me, it'd sure beat the glasses being just a 'stylistic decision'. Tho he looked so slick with his hair combed back, The Fonz would of been proud. |
