20th Century Boys has won more awards than any of this seasons shows have viewers.

There would be virtually no point in animating it.

Its fine. We can tell a complete story with developed characters in a 90 minute movie so 12 or 13 episodes of anime can do the same. Even if it can't adapt the entire manga if it can end at a good arc that should be fine and then maybe get a sequel.

Either way its not length that's a detriment to story telling or entertainment value its just shitty adaptions. And especially slice of life anime like Non Non Biyori or Yuyushiki or Acchi Kocchi don't need to be more than 1 cour.

I don't really mind it, but black bullet is really suffering from the 13 episodes cour.

I hate it when a show is adapted for 13 episodes, concludes in a way that would require a sequel and then never gets a sequel.

not a big problem with it as long as they're good but I think most feel a bit rushed. My 2 all time favorites were at the 50 episode mark so wouldn't mind seeing some longer ones again. Most of the long ones these days are still airing and don't look like they'll stop for a while so that's kind of a bummer.

I prefer shows in the 20s because that way it's less likely to be rushed and I enjoy them more. Don't get me wrong though. Some of my favorite shows are 13 eps, although I do wish they had a second season. They might not need a second season if they were 20+ eps though.

Well, last season was particularly low because there were so many shows from Fall still airing, but yeah, in general there's way too many. I'd definitely prefer more long-runners, more mainstream anime and less late night stuff that is over when it starts to get good.

My ideal length is 50-200 episodes.

13 is fine if its not rushed. Aslong as the anime doesn't have to big of a main group of characters it can easily be done.

Kind of unfortunate. I usually like longer anime because I can enjoy more of the series.

I generally prefer anime to be 24+ episodes. It helps with pacing and development.

To me most anime needs 24-52 episodes to get what it needs done. There are obviously exceptions to this but I feel have a 13 episode limit only hurts the series unless a second season is made.

Indeed -- look at the production committee credits for a given adaptation. They almost always include some book publisher like Kadokawa, Shuueisha, Kodansha, Pony Canyon, or a number of others.

I mostly like 13 episode anime, they are easy to watch and a lot of shows manage to tell a decent story in 12-13 episodes. (for example Anohana,Another,Free! and Tari Tari were all 13 or less episodes long but had a complete story and an actual ending)
But sadly there are still many 13 eps shows that suffer from bad pacing and so they are super rushed or they just don't really go anywhere and don't get any proper ending.

Because most 24 episode shows have terrible pacing. 12/13 episode shows force them to quicken the pace and it works wonders for some shows. Kill la Kill would've been awesome at 12/13 episodes, but it loses out because it needed to fill 24. We instead get a show that has pacing issues throughout the second half and a final battle that lasts like 5 episodes.

I think a 12-13 episodes series is well long enough, but this almost requires the show to have a small cast of characters. We need time in order to create that connection to the characters, and the more of them there are the more time it's gonna take.

Good plot usually means more episodes. Unless you're fine with the
stuff 12-13 episodes can produce.

I don't mind 13 eps. In fact i'd rather watch one 13 ep show than a 100 ep show. I guess it comes down to time constraints.

as long as they put those 13 episodes too use.
Some people only like 1/2 of a series anyway.

13 episode anime no not make much profit [ there is making your budget and there is making profit]

Well nowadays, a lot of animes are made from LN/Manga that are still kind of new that isnt that far into it's story and most of the time *cough cough sao* , they try to stay true to the original source. But really i think a lot of it comes from the budget they receive to make the anime and the popularity the original source has.

I think a lot of those short anime aren't very memorable, since they usually end before or after things start to get interesting.

I don't mind the 13 episode. If it does well then a 2nd season can follow.
