Welp, that ending was disappointing, but overall the entire series was good 9/10. I've corrected the ending for those interested.

setsuna touma and haruki meet at the airport, they sit down for coffee with an hour before touma's flight, setsuna brings up the festival and what she did and starts to cry
touma accepts her feelings and apologizes for the way she feels for haruki, but she cannot help it
haruki stays quiet with his head down, and when asked what will he do he closes his eyes in desperation and says he wants to marry touma
touma buys him a ticket and they fly to vienna together to get her mothers blessing
END!

I knew from the start this wasn't going to end well. Yet the M in me kept me from dropping it.

Story of a love triangle. Can't really put much of a spin there. There's always gonna be one who gets the short end of the stick. This time...well I don't know who did.

Characters are flawed and that what makes them believable. I wouldn't say they're complex but I always try to remember they're supposed to be teenagers - they make small things seem complicated and complicated things MORE complicated. You know...like how you agonized over this one thing when you were 17 but now you're much older you're like "ok that was stupid lol."

I don't like any of the characters. I feel no attachment to any of them. Well a bit for Touma I guess. But what little fondness I had for her just went bye-bye after seeing this episode. This isn't even an issue of "you don't do that to friends". Any woman would demand that you break it off with the other party. You know...that infamous "if you really love me, then..." line. I get that Haruki and Touma love each other but it's just...ugh..*head throbs*...you just don't do that >___< You break it off with the other party FIRST then go do whatever you want, have sex 24/7 or whatever. Life experiences taught me well.

Some people say Setsuna deserved what happened since she was the one who stole Haruki first. She did get between them but I don't know...technically I wouldn't call it stealing because there was no formal relationship between the other two hence it was still free-for-all. So Setsuna went and swooped in (swooping is bad). I still can't say what she did was right but I can't blame her. She gambled and lost.

Haruki is just a POS. Everything could have been easily resolved if you didn't hook up with someone you didn't love or break up with her before you hook up with someone else. "But he didn't want to hurt them!" He's not kind. He's a coward. And those types are the one who deserve to be forever alone.

I haven't played the VN and from what I read in the previous pages, there's supposed to be a continuation? Let me predict what could happen:

Am I close?

Did I like it? I don't know. I watched all 13 episodes so I guess? Was it good? It was a good mess. But still good.

Damn man...just damn you obviously understand the characters well if you could predict that much. Yes that's pretty much exactly what happens.

What a bad end for all 3 main characters.
I give 8/10

After doing some searching, seems like this adaptation is just the ~Introductory chapter~
So, I hope there will be a season 2 for ~Closing chapter~
I wanna know what will happen to these 3.

I rate this as a masterpiece. It's been a while since I have seen a romance drama anime that have left me an aching heart, I can almost not breathe. The animation was superb, the plot was laid out perfectly, the drama was consistent, the characters were well developed, and the OST matched very well.

PS. I'm part of the minority that wants Haruki to end up with Setsuna. :)
Senjougahara: Don't call me "this chick"
Araragi: Then what should I call you?
Senjougahara: Senjougahara-sama.
Araragi: SEN - JOU - GA - HAA - RAA - SAA - MAA
Senjougahara: I don't like the way you say it. Say it properly.
Araragi: Senjougahara-chan~

That's a good point lol.

Eh, some people are taking this too seriously. Nothing wrong with any of the characters IMO. They are all very realistic, and quite likable for me . It's simply human to make mistakes, to love and to give in to temptation. Anyway they are all so young, so they have plenty of time to make foolish mistakes and learn from them. It only appears so 'dramatic' because that's how all dramas go. The actual situation isn't really much of a big deal, if you think about it. Certainly not as crazy or unbelievable/contains as loathsome characters as School Days, for one.
There's two kinds of people you can't win an argument against:
One - Too dumb to tell right from wrong.
Two - Too stubborn to admit they are wrong.

Best ending possible. Wouldn't of written it any other way. Romance is my favorite genre. The directing, characters and portrayal of drama were all flawless in my opinion.

I think the only thing that was wrong was that it was snowing at the end.

Dunno how to feel about this show. On one hand Haruki is a fricking indecisive prick, but on the other hand Setsuna is incredibly stupid to stick around with him... ugh, the show was all happy go lucky at first and this ending leaves a sour taste.

Rated it as a masterpiece but that is just me being biased since its been a while since I last watch such a good drama.

"There already was poison in the soup, why not eat it all up?" - is what Haruki would say.

Thinking of this in a realistic standpoint (though of course WA2 is fictional), their "precious" memories/past is basically screwed up - wasted. Future undecided (what if a "closing chapter" was never made? Ofc all of us are left to fantasize about hat is to happen - which left me to my opinion). Friendship broken. So what did I just watch 13 episodes for? For their friendship to melt like snow.

No one is perfect, thus, every character in a story HAS a FLAW - which comes to WA2's main flaw to itself, the characters (which I'm not going to elaborate more). No matter how well the script is written, how perfect the music is timed, when you've got an ending that will leave a bad taste to your mouth, it just is worth ranting about.

Either way, if WA2 took the traditional road of "guy A ending up with girl A, leaving girl B alone", it still is NOT a happy ending, at least NOT AS WORST as what actually ended up happening.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind it if Haruki ended up with either two of the girls. Hell, if it's possible, all three of them could've had a mutual love altogether - but then again, that's not realistically possible as far as I know.

With all that said, WA2 is a great anime - great in a way how they portrayed the characters, how the plot developed and every other shenanigans needed for a romance genre. But how it ended is basically... meh. You have the characters for a flaw, who never bothered to fix themselves first, before fixing their relationship.

I give this a 7/10 (a good ending is a must for a good romance anime - I mean, who can be so cruel to leave us broken hearted? *5 centimeter/second cough*). I feel sorry for 4 people - Haruki, Kazusa, Setsuna, and myself DAMMIT.

Nah, not everything needs to be a good ending. Anime should stop dick riding "happy ever after" types of endings from time to time. White Album is a good example of that and it turns out to be something good.

Maybe its just me but it didn't really leave something bad on me. I know I'll have a bad time sleeping tonight but that is a blame to me for watching a drama around this time.

Either way, if WA2 took the traditional road of "guy A ending up with girl A, leaving girl B alone", it still is NOT a happy ending, at least NOT AS WORST as what actually ended up happening.

If Haruki ended up with someone after all that tension.. my rating will probably fall around 6 or 7 cause that will really kill what made it good in my opinion.

Its really hard to argue with this if you'll not try to elaborate that statement but anyway I still think that WA 2's character is one of the better set of characters I've seen for a while, they're very realistic since i do have friends with personality like them and its not just the main characters but even the supporting cast too. So to me, they're really the type of characters that I can relate.

I mean, who can be so cruel to leave us broken hearted.

Life does. ;p

I'm still wondering why I decided to talk about a series here on MAL, I'll usually just visit here and rate it then get over it. Maybe White Album 2 is really just some thing that I didn't expect this season.

I just finished seeing the show and quite amazed on how the producers carry the bad ending ._. The moment i saw the 12th episode, i really don't like how Haruki acted. But at least he managed to make things out with Setsuna (or not?) in the last episode , even though it leads to a bad ending.... The musics are great, and i really enjoy hearing them. My impression is that WA2 is really great, simply because of it's story and how realistic it is. I would hope for the "closing chapter" to be animated ._.

I give this... 8.5/10

With that kind of ending? If I'm on Haruki's position I'll prefer to breakup and move on. It will be a very awkward relationship if they continue seeing each other which suddenly reminds me that Haruki and Setsuna will go on the same university and the same course right? Right? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Fuck. That changed my views big time.

EDIT:

this is originally a game. so the ending depends on the choice of player. setsuna or touma, you chose

If it makes you feel better that's not actually the end. It's just a stopping place for the story. This is only 20% of the full story. I think the main thing that remains inconclusive is we never got to see Kazusa and Setsuna have a confrontation. Without that it truly feels inconclusive.

(Q: So does Haruki still with Setsuna? I still don't get this part...)

Kinda sorta. They are technically still together, but their relationship is meaningless. Yes they go to the same university.

You do have a point. It will never be a masterpiece for me until the time that I accept something tragic like WA2 can happen(with the infinite number of timelines we have, of course it can!). It is a breath of fresh air from the typical happy-ever-after genre - and yet, it's hard to breath from the suffocation you have to endure from WA2.

I do admit that WA2 is a great anime AND story, but the ending for me is... S^436du499cjdammitwhy98y6xh4yn since I really do feel pity for the 3 of them - which is probably the ONLY reason for my rants at the moment.

Maybe CC will next year, and coda gonna next next year on TV or could be a movie.

Cut out the side heroines and it's easily possible. Remember WA2 is dragged out beyond belief and the majority of the conversations can be cut out completely.

Haruki must've smashed Touma good, she couldn't walk straight afterwards. XD

Jokes aside, I'm glad I gave WA2 a shot. Kinda overlooked it when it was airing. The love triangle was remarkably well done. I genuinely felt really bad for all three leads, especially Setsuna. And the music placement was godtier.

I see that as a good thing tbh, shows that it really delivers big time on emotions. While some can claim that they wish for more romance anime this good, I think it's better if we don't get something like WA2 very often. Some of us would probably burn out and would just stop caring eventually.

WA2 is my favorite anime of 2013 but I won't deny that's also because there's been a while since we've seen a romance-drama anime done right and some of us were really thirsting for one.IMO,it's a factor that made it special and I don't know about you guys but I like to have something special every once in a while.

Personally,I'm now content with romance-drama anime of this caliber for quite a while -let's say until next fall/winter or so when I'd expect a season 2 to have a good chance of being out(in this case,I wouldn't mind it being out sooner either but I'd still rather have at least one season break). Heck,my enjoyment of Golden Time(which is a bit similar with it's love triangle & all) has dropped due to it airing in the same season as WA2. Even with WA2 being over, I'll still inevitably end up comparing the two, preventing me from enjoying GT as much as I would if it aired at least two seasons before or after WA2.

The only good romance anime I've watched in years, possibly decades. Not sure why more can't be like this.

I'd say this if I had watched many romance anime - or if I had watched many anime full stop. But if the norm is Torashit ... well ...

Aaaah, the sex at the beginning. 。◕ ∀ ◕。

So the scene which was foreshadowed in the first ep. was Setsuna letting Haruki make out with Touma? It definitely came out as a surprise, I thought she would just find out and slap Haruki or something.
Really, Setsuna is a man, a true bro. She was the one I disliked the most, but this final episode made me realize how much of a complex character she is. Like everyone else. It was all very complicated without having to rely on melodrama.
Only complain I have is the animation – or lack of thereof – and the ugly anatomy. Not so terrible as other anime, but it could have focused less on the character’s legs and more on them playing their instruments.
The music was goooood.
8/10.

I’ll ditch Rose Guns Days 2nd season – the first one was pretty shitty anyway – and start this right away.

Another thing is it's a bit too real life for me! I won't explain why! I'll just say it is! orz

I really couldn't ship for either girls. I liked both of them but eventually my heart sank a bit with what Setsuna said but glad she made amends and accepted the consequences. But Touma... *shakes head* nothing more to say then that. There's gotta be a S2 soon, not sure when but I really cannot wait if this pic is true: http://i.imgur.com/tE3ghRz.jpg

Well my thoughts in this anime is that is brilliant. The producers didn't play with let's get happy forever. It was appropiate with the characters years and the moments they were going throught. Also that they were characterized very well in the sense of reality. Yes everyone makes mistakes and can do this enormous problem. That's what I liked about this show. It was very very sincere with the reality. At the end everyone made huge mistakes that demostrated that if you don't think and say what you are doing you will have a bad time. So they got what they deserved. I like how it ended but I am hearing there could be a sequel. Well if they keep on with the track like this it will be totally awesome. For me 10/10.

Although I was with team Ogiso but dammit Touma really had big points.
Also what a way to start 2014. :D

Boy, this reminds so much about School Days without the stabbing and slicing. The romance here is very nice though not a very big fan of love triangles. "Love that cannot be". That's a very perfect title for those three. It's a good thing they were able to sort this out though not perfectly. I give 8/10 for this.

Just got done watching White Album 2. Man, what a feel trip. I saw the original White Album, so I knew what I was going into. I knew there was going to be sex scenes in White Album 2, but still it hit me right in the feels. In the original White Album, the male protagonist has sex with his girlfriend's secretary (I believe she was her secretary). It was solely about the sex. But with White Album 2, you're very emotionally attached the characters. Overall, I give the final episode a 9/10 and the whole thing a 8.5/10. Ugh, gotta watch a comedy anime so I can calm myself down...

it's hard to breath from the suffocation you have to endure from WA2.

Pretty much what happened to me when I finished the VN but I guess I had it harder. I had difficulty watching other animes. I unconsciously compared it to the anime I am watching and found those stories' very unbelievable and got disgusted by it as I expected the level of character development WA2 as well as how realistic it was. Took me weeks to recover.....

Watched the last episode and I didn't expect the tragedy and the sadness to hit me again...... My heart sank when they had sex......

Can't stop the feels. The characters in the story is great theres a bit of flaws but it still has the slice of life so yep its ok for me. Poor Setsuna I feel bad for her pushing too far and Touma leaving? man that ending was sad. I dont think Setsuna and Kitahara will go out again/

It's how she looks in the final arc in the visual novel. It was tweeted by the satelight animator, so more then likely they have confirmed they are doing Coda (maybe they'll just skip CC haha).
