I hope that Makoto is the one to save Rei! I just hope that his 'bad past' isn't something stupid like he tried to free his goldfish in the ocean or something like that *facepalm* Seriously, what's with the goldfish. It's cute that he made a grave for it though. I love that with all his big built he's such a cute scardy cat.. that's why he needs someone like Haru-chan at his side.. I really love these two haha x3 This ep definitely made Mako-chan my favorite in this show. I kind of think a family member or something died in the ocean, and the goldfish grave is a kind of memorial for them. |

It makes more sense too, especially if it was his fault (being rescued/survivor guilt) that person died. Guess we have to wait another week and find out... or read the novel, I guess. But too much kanji is too tiresome for me (as Haru-chan would say ^^) |

Good thing Free! didn't air last week. I was adamant on dropping it after episode four, but had two weeks to think about it. Safe to say, I had a change of heart. Gou in her one-piece was nice, but you know what they say... Two is better than one! C'mon KyoAni. Give us guys what we want! |

-Starts off discussion with rage- DAMN IT, WHAT THE HELL. HOW CAN YOU END THE EPISODE WITH SUCH A HUGE CLIFFHANGER. MAKOTO HAS TO FACE HIS SECRET FEAR WITH THE OCEAN AND GHLDKJLEFGJS. Anyways, I really liked this episode :D! I loved the whole idea of the deserted island and training, and I liked the "coincidence" that Rin and his swim team are also on this island. I also enjoyed learning more about Makoto. Haru's concern for him is just too kawaii >///< When Gou & Rin had that little brother/sister moment I got so happy, Rin needs to open up more ^_^ Next episode, there better be some Rinuka >:3 My current feelings: |

Rei, you are so adorable. You're fine the way you are, okay? No one thinks you are a burden. >,< Stawwwp it! D: *prays for your safety* Considering how little I cared for Makoto, I'm surprisingly into this episode, lol. Especially by his subtle (well, Haruka doesn't really make it that and it's been heavily foreshadowed already) reactions to the ocean and such. :3 And Gou! Ah! That sibling moment was so cute~ >w< Rin and Gou, your sibling love for each other is so adorable. Have a show of your own, yeah? (Rin, your playing it cool attitude is awesome.) Sigh...now to wait for the next episode... :/ |

I'm glad the anime is being rather faithful to the light novel by covering some of the character background stories. I'm REALLY looking forward to next week's episode just to see what happens next. It ended pretty tense and suspenseful. Meh, I guess I'm gonna try to read that if I have time. |

FFFFF THAT CLIFFHANGER HNNNGGGHHH TELL US WHAT HAPPENS TO REI & MAKOTO NOW Btw that was INTENSEEeeee. Makoto just made me a bit sad. The ones who know "things" about him seem to be Haru and Rin. In curiosity, is it really a goldfish in that grave? I could -probably- come into thoughts: that goldfish was really really precious for Makoto (you know Makoto rite? He's charitable like to everything lol) OR "goldfish" was just a cover Makoto uses (after seeing his breakup with oceans). But- let's see next week. The BW flashback of Makoto didnt enlighten me, at all. Who were people in masks and why the ocean- I'm thinking that Haru & Rin watched "someone precious for Makoto" is dead... DAMN THAT MAKES ME GUESS ANY POSSIBILITY LOL Rei you sucha bastard. You're still a noob just dont push yourself over the border- one does not simply swim in oceans in a day. Makoto holding back everything is just KSHSKDHkhdskhs I feel your pain there just dont hold things back sobs Haru save em asap. Or else Rei would come to save you all. |

My adorable Gou was as adorable as ever. I wanted to see her in a bikini but well, I guess it's actually better this way. It gives her a pure feeling and thus, makes her even more likable. Makogou scenes, gotta love those. Makoto is officially the best guy in this anime, at least for me. He is so selfless and cares about his friends so much. This anime could work even better if it was a reverse harem with Gou as a main heroine since she is so fabulous and I badly want her to be a MC xD But I love it in its current form too. The ending scenes were fabulous. Now haters - Try even tellingl me that this is just a fanservice anime! While this episode itself was amazing, the next episode is gonna prove all of haters wrong while I will have my laughs here. |

Makoto has a Trauma in ocean. I'm curious about it. I want to know the whole story. waiting for another week. Intense episode, I wonder what will hoped next week. :( I hope Rei will not ... (OMG!) Makoto too. Cliffhanger but its okay it become more exciting. I didn't expect that this week episode is that intensive because of the last episodes mostly comedy. I will pray for Rei and Makoto for their safeness. |

K-On! was about close friends brought together by a shared activity they were all passionate about, and how this initial attraction due to said shared activity lead to time and experiences in which close bonds and friendships were fostered. Please replace K-On with "Free!", Learning to play Guitar with "Learning to swim Butterfly", and Music with "Swimming" and you have Free! You are clearly watching the wrong show for the wrong reasons, though there actually is a fair bit more swimming in Free! than there was (probably, it has been awhile) music playing in K-On! but it is first and foremost a show about close friends going through life with their passion for the activity at hand the nucleus of the show, but not necessarily the focal point. I'm sorry you're watching the show for the wrong reasons, but that doesn't make those of us who are watching it in a manner that makes sense for a Kyoani anime incorrect. Always. Being twice... Fixed that for you. Well, we had a race back in episode 2. And it looks like we're going to be racing for Rei's life in episode 6 soooo. There you go =) That many levels of competition would require them to introduce SO MANY new characters. It would be horrible and a wreck. No thanks. Also a competition between the main characters would be 100% predictable. Frontcrawl and butterfly are the fastest and Haru is a genius and Rei is not. It wouldn't even be a competition. Anguished said: dany_elle1908 said: i'm a girl and no i do not watch only for that is an enjoyable anime -.- You're not watching it for some actual swimming. That says enough. Yeah. That says she's not stupid because if someone wanted to watch ACTUAL swimming they would watch ACTUAL swimming. Just like how people who watched KnB weren't doing it to watch ACTUAL basketball - KnB is fantasy basketball. And just like how people who watched Slam Dunk and acclaim it love it for the STORY. Sounds like she's saying she's watching for the story as well. the point is slam dunk and kuroko no basuke BOTH have tons of basketball in it. Free has barely any swimming in it. i wont even comment on ur "fantasy basketball" thing since ur obviously talking out of ur ass right now. also WHAT story? free! has one of the most bland and boring storys ever with no plot or any substance behind it. do u really get excited over that cliffhanger (which isnt one cause we all know Rei isnt going to drown). get real! It's quite ironic that your complaint about the amount of swimming this anime has is addressed in my first response ...that you quoted but apparently didn't bother to read. There's nothing more to be said. Now if you're going to debate the level of fantasy KnB reaches. LOL. It's fantasy because nobody IRL dishes out all the moves Aomine busts out every game in succession with 100% accuracy like he does. Do you... live in reality? Because what I've said is repeated in the reviews on this very site and in many forums. The POINT. What point? You didn't make a point. I responded to a person who was belittling someone for watching an anime for the story and not ACTUAL sports footage. Your response doesn't refute that or address it. It just says there's basketball in two basketball series. Okay... If you look at user reviews, many of them will talk about how the highlights of the series were the characters and humour. They were all watching for the story because you can get ACTUAL sports with real people IRL, elsewhere. If you want to know the plot of Free! please read the 'Synopsis' on this website. You can also check the two wikis. If the only thing that ever excites you is an unpredictable end and not the execution, well I can't help you, but I guess you obviously didn't enjoy most of KnB then. |

Isayama Hajime should be awarded The Manga with The Highest Inconsistencies of Characters' Appearances. He keeps performing multiple plastic surgeries on those Shingeki No Kyojin characters in a SINGLE chapter. Yes, I've read up to the latest chapter of Shingeki No Kyojin manga. Forced myself to read through the kidsketching chapters after the anime's ended. At least from now on, I only have to go through the hell once a month. Patiently awaiting SNK TV/movie/OVA anime-sequel. The 2015 SNK live-action movie would probably suck. |

Very good episode, given it was a beach episode I was worried it would be just fan service, but that cliffhanger at the end. Be interesting to find out what happened Makoto in the past given everyone's concern for him with the ocean... |

Damn you, cliffhanger!!! Rei, what were you thinking? The weakest swimmer should not be going out alone at night to practice. Next week can't get here fast enough. Sent with Mal Updater |

Ep 5 is really good. It actually gave a new arc for a next episode. I love the cliffhanger too which is really affected me. I wonder what really happened to Makoto in the past but I guess the pet goldfish has a part of it? Hahaha |
