And...here come the light novel readers with their complaints. Predictable. Do I need to start avoiding the fanbase? Already?

Another good episode. I was highly impressed with the boss fight.

I'm actually surprised and happy to say that this show is really holding my interest!
Though the dialogue sometimes feels forced and cheesy, the show itself is pretty damn awesome so far!

My only gripe about this episode is that Kiriko went from a supposed normal, somewhat frightened gamer (like he should be) to claiming he's the ultimate boss of any players, the "Beater".
Maybe that was just a temporary moment of power-high. No idea.

Also, I think the music in this has to be some of the best anime music I've heard in a while. I love the instrumental music with the choir during the final moments with the boss. Really awesome!

first off: I don't want to sound like a critic who hates this anime for no reason, but I thought this episode was pretty bad story-wise.
the leader of the raid groups decided he would die to save the others, when a quick health potion would've cured him. did he choose to commit suicide because he was scared that he'd be really greedy and keep all the loot for himself? he sure didn't say so!
the ginger dude says MC let the leader die, MC clearly can't be bothered to explain that the leader wanted to die for no reason.
MC explains that he knows lots of information that can help the other players beat the game. the other players call him a cheater? MC is fine with being called a cheater/ douchenozzle.
MC and asuna (sp? I forgot her name already!) switch character types, she becomes the newbie type, whilst he all of a sudden turns dark and angsty.

I also wasn't sure if Asuna's little ramble about staying in a town to be herself was just filler or was meant to be explained a bit more (I can understand she wants to explore the game/ come to the part of the game she likes, to she can still remember it's a game and not reality, but in the context of the scene it just seemed like random banter thrown in there).

other than that no real complaints, seems ok right now, but nothing hugely special (not in a derogatory way).

About the potion, it has been explained many times in this topic already, but nobody is going to search through 30+ pages. Diabel was already dead and the potion wouldn't have helped him. He already lost all his HP and the game just animated the draining health bar.

About the 'being fine with being called a cheater', he did it to prevent a conflict between normal players and other beta testers by saying he was much better than most of the other beta tester.

Asuna was the 'newbie' all along, with SOA being her first game ever, she just had talent. And about the 'dark and angsty', same explanation as the cheater.

And last, Asuna left time because she wanted to stay herself. She didn't want to 'lose to the game' and wanted to choose when she would die herself, because she thought it was impossible to clear the game. I think this was to explain why she left town and was there.

oh didn't see his health bar! the whole accusation of cheater makes more sense now then, since the leader didn't commit suicide, and then again explains why he didn't deflect the accusations (even though he could've use the "it's changed since beta" card)
I don't really understand why he would've tried to act all "badass" to explain how he knows so much about the game though? surely that just portrays him as someone who seems slightly arrogant and purposely didn't tell the players about the attack patterns? is he trying to draw the accusations away from other beta testers to himself?
I guess I wasn't paying attention, I didn't know the conversation was initially in the context of her leaving town (seemed a bit subtle?) again makes more sense when explained. thanks!

Pretty solid, I have to say. I'm not going to bother reading all these comments of bitching, though. Or at least that's what I'm assuming it'll be going by the comments on the first page.

Also, it's pretty obvious that Kirito was merely "faking" the beater persona he had going on in order to shift the blame on him so the others would stay unified. I mean, was it really that hard to figure out? Do people need to have things spelled out for them at every turn?

At the start, I felt like the scene that everyone gathered up and group up is like G.I. on HxH. However, later on the episode, I realized that this is really not the same.

I like the debut of Asuna. It's sad that Kirito decided to dump her her (well, I'd believe that's for now.)

It was a good episode
But I just don't understand why he didn't object when that point-haired douche was accusing him :I
I know he was trying to avoid conflict between the newbies and the betas, but I think there'd still be a better way than to just bring the anger to himself.

Our heroine finally appears. Great teamwork between Kirito and Asuna.

Good to see that the notion of selflessness and cooperation still exists in such a twisted world. I sure hope there is no PvP in this game, the last thing they need is to be killing each other when they all need to work together to get out of there.

I found this to be a pretty immersive episode. Nevermind all the rants from the dissatisfied LN readers.

The world and dungeons didn't change at all from the beta. He calls himself a "beater" and rushes to floor 2 first than anyone like he knows everything.

How the hell did he forget where the Kobold boss was to begin with?

Rly? I can't wait to see more of it then.

Anyway, this was one good episode and the anime definitely isn't going downfall as for now. It has some emotional moments which make it better than it'd be otherwise. The anime keeps on making me feel different abount video games, especially the online ones for good or bad. And the most important part - Asuna is kawaii as possible.

Beater... I like it.

It seems that he winged it and was like, you guys don't like beta testers? THEN COME AT ME... Don't even compare me to them! I am above them!

I don't think that's his real personality but that he did that to survive.

Explanation:
Basically, with the current situation, everyone would have turned on all of the beta testers. Kirito didn't want that. He coined the term 'Beater' to divide the beta testers into 2 groups, regular testers and Beaters, and then direct all the hate to the Beaters.

Basically, he's shouldering the hate.

If you want Kirito's thoughts:

Sweet merciful crap...

So let me get this straight. The boss is at the top of the giant conspicuous tower that nobody searched for over a month? And then, on top of that, everyone is shocked that the boss has been modified from the beta test? And then, the ringleader of the party rejects a potion even though it means he'll die, and then, the cherry on the shit sundae, rather than explain that the ringleader rejected the potion, Kirito reveals himself to not only be a great gamer, but some goddamn savant that stands as grand supreme player in comparison to everyone else so he can have everyone focus their hate on him, like some goddamn messiah?

And this is supposed to be the GOOD writing?

This is going to be a bigger trainwreck than Code Geass isn't it? Oh lord, what have I got myself into?

I don't buy "the floors and dungeons are huge". 8,000 people and none of them can go to the top of the giant conspicuous tower after one month? These are some absolutely horrible gamers if that's the case and I'm shocked more aren't dead.

That raises further questions. Why did everyone blame Kirito for the death of Diabel (sp?) then? Was it because they thought he tricked them into thinking they knew how the boss would attack? They all had the same guidebook and Kirito even yelled out in the presence of the group for Diablel to back the eff off when he saw the boss pull out a different weapon, yet Diabel charged anyway.

Not all of the 10000 people were fighting and only a few were at a level to fight bosses. You have to take into consideration that they die for real if they are killed so no matter how good they were in other mmo they cant be reckless here.

As for the rest of ep 2 I cant say anything because I havent read that part of the LN.Except for that they hated him because he was a beta tester and a "cheater".

Another great episode! The boss fight was a little predictable, but it's a game after all.

Though I'm pretty peeved that Kirito didn't simply explain to the others how things were. I mean, he could've avoided the whole rage party if he'd just told them straight out that the reason he knew about the attack was because he'd gotten to the 8th floor, and that the boss was changed after the beta, so that's why he didn't warn them beforehand.

This is getting really good in a really short time, I really like the massive action and story development, the pace of the episode was also quite amazing. Quite funny though that I didn't expected but did fit in the whole thing is that he took the role of villain to well protect himself and the others perhaps?

Either way great episode the ED was also quite nice!

Speaking as someone who hasn't read the novels this was pretty good. It's obvious, though, that something was truncated such as how that scene where Kirito gave Asuna the honey just sort of....stopped. But, other than that it was pretty easy to follow and I really digged the two on one team up at the end there.

One thing I don't get, though is how the guide works? I mean, I thought it was stated that no one had ever found the boss, not even the beta testers. So, how did they get info on the boss?

I'm asking how they would have gotten the information in a beta test when I believe it was stated by Kirito that no one had ever found the boss. Including the beta testers.

Nope, beta testers got to floor 7 or so (maybe even a bit higher). Nobody got to the boss so far in the current live version.

One thing I don't get, though is how the guide works? I mean, I thought it was stated that no one had ever found the boss, not even the beta testers. So, how did they get info on the boss?

Information from betatest.

I'm asking how they would have gotten the information in a beta test when I believe it was stated by Kirito that no one had ever found the boss. Including the beta testers.

Nope, beta testers got to floor 7 or so (maybe even a bit higher). Nobody got to the boss so far in the current live version.

Oh, I see. They had fought the boss, the beta testers I mean, but not this version that had the stronger weapon and so on? Which was why they were caught off guard? My bad, if that's the case.

Yes, the boss doesn't have the same weapon as it did in the beta.

I'm happy I was wrong about how I felt in the beginning parts of this episode. It turned out great and I can't wait for more.
