It's kind of predictable stilll made me cry when the brother died though. The ending looked a little cheesy but i liked how cool Kakeru looked.

The movements in this episode were so awkward, and the characters looked all wrong.
The episode was totally predictable and I'm a bit disappointed. It is also unrealistic, having his brothers heart will not make him better than before or effect him in any way.
THE FACES! What the hell was wrong with them??

God.

I wouldn't say this episode was "sad" but it was really depressing. So brother died, that's why the first epi was the last time they played (and not cuz he got in a wheelchair or whatever). But even so Kakeru still wants to quit... He's gonna play tough to abide his dead brother's feelings huh?

Some flashbacks so we can see how was the vibe of their childhood lives... It did not add much but it was surely well placed, alternating the suspense of the present with the brothers and Nana in the past. It wasn't as strong as epi 1 and 2 but it was surely charming.

...Now that thing of Kakeru becoming Sugeru after the heart transplant is just weird. xD I could expect it from that poor defender friend ("I can't move when I see Sugeru cuz I think something will happen" pffft kick his shins then, like a true defensive footballer xD) but not you too Nana! xD

And yay for STOP-CAR KICK! Because we all know that ball in your windshield is much more relevant to whether you'll step on the brakes or not than the kid-and-dog you're about to run over... xD I foresee some scientific study in the future giving us the statistics for such! xD

I assume a ball flying in your face is more likely to get your attention a lot quicker than a smaller figure closer to the pavement in the near distance.

Also, I cried manly tears...

Well, maybe it's unlogical like this but after having Sugaru heart transplanted in Kakeru.

You do know that brain and the heart is connect with the body
The heart will still remember everything that Sugaru experiences becuase both of them really love soccer.
Kakeru doesn't practice much but he still can run more than usually that's becuase of his brother heart.

His brother always complain about the heart, now he got his brother heart he is probably going to better and his brother.

Agree 100%. Instead we got some cheesy dreamy cloud bit at the start and that ridiculous scene at the end. Also the part with the Seven giving a gift of bracelets never happened.

They're adding too much and taking away too much source material which makes the manga great. I wouldn't be surprised if we get some lame ghost whisperer Sugaru voice from within later on.

Oh right, now I remember why I dropped the manga around this point: I thought it was ridiculous that Kakeru was "being taken over by his brother" (as scytheboy13 has put it), because, you know, just because you've gotten soemones heart transplanted, doesn't make you melt with said person...
I thought this manga/anime has great potential, but this is kinda weird and probably even destroys the potential it had.

Kakeru has gotten super powers lol.
The sad stuff could have been much better, I didn`t even get tears in my eyes.
The bad stuff started with the shitty scream/crying from the mother.
The drawings were pretty bad sometimes, like when Seven held up 3 fingers, thos fingers looked very weird.

This episode was depressing and I did almost tear up I wasn't expecting Suguru to be brain dead I knew he was going to die after what Kakeru said in episode 1, but I wasn't expecting he was going that way.

Was I the only one that started laughing at the end when Kakeru hits the driver of a car with a soccer ball and somehow saves the girl? WTF? That would make things worse, likely making it more likely for the driver to not be able to stop in time because of the distraction of being hit by a random soccer ball. I just couldn't get over how stupid that scene was.

I didn't laugh, but you're right. This scene was stupid, because Kakerus actions were dangerous and could have made the situation a lot worse than it already was.

Confused why they made Kakeru change his appearance like that at the end. A fusion of the brothers is not better than both separate.

They could have made it far sadder, only the sister ever looked truly depressed, though the mom when she dropped the plate...typical, but still powerful.

I did enjoy getting abit of a history briefing of how the 3 of them were in their earlier years and there was abit of a wierd feeling after hearing his brother 'died' in that accident o.O

I got a feeling I was re-seeing the same plot line that Aoki Densetsu Shoot had with Kubo. It was ridiculous that his brother's soul was somehow over taking him. I was hoping the story would be about him and his brother working together with eachother to compete in the nationals, the timing of his brothers death was way too early, we didn't really get to know the guy well.

Hopefully the next few episodes are abit more realistic, I will probably watch the whole series because I am a sports anime fan but this is a bad storyline to work with.

I like this, but I don't like the whole thing that because he has his brother's heart then that means that his brother is now in him. It feels as if though Kakeru was the one who died and now his brother basically lives in him...literally.

That guy saw Suguru in Kakeru, and now so does Seven, which will lead to more problems later. If Seven was in love with Suguru and Suguru was in love with her, then the whole question of who she loves, whether Suguru or Kakeru will rise up eventually. She probably loved Suguru, but now she's gonna basically see Suguru in Kakeru. Kakeru whose always liked her, will probably not question it, but she will, especially the way the nurse mentioned it.

I just don't like it. I wish Kakeru hadn't had such a drastic change in personality, because of the heart transplant. I want him to be himself..
I am a sucker for romance!!!!

So no longer do I think this is simply a worse version of Touch with soccer, it's a silly version of Touch with soccer. This episode was good up to the point where he started channelling his brother through his heart. That part bugs me alot. At least the way Touch did the whole brother connection was actually realistic.

Also Kakeru saving that girl was quite unrealistic - they driver would have braked anyway ...

To be fair, I could see him being changed by his brother's death and perhaps seeming to take on his brothers' mannerisms being perfectly fine and realistic in the sense of people noticing it after Suguru dies. They are brothers, after all. Perhaps people are just seeing it more clearly now that Suguru isn't there. It could be that Kakeru was more like his brother all along than they realized. And he could maybe be carrying himself in a way reminiscent of his brother as a way to cope with Suguru's death.

However, because of the heart transplant thing, I am pretty sure that is not the angle they are going for in this anime, which is kind of a shame, because if they were they could have just had Suguru die saving Kakeru's life and dropped the heart-transplant part entirely. That would be more compelling than him literally taking on characteristics of his brother. I mean, it's a common enough story in real life though. There are stories all over the place of this sort of thing supposedly happening, so with this being fiction I can take that sort of thing anyway.

Besides that, they could handle it well anyway. Will people continue to see Suguru in Kakeru? Will he struggle to get out of his brother's shadow, but also struggle with the fact that he probably never can since his brother's not there?

The answer is probably either no, or if yes, I am not expecting these sorts of issues to be handled well. This is the same show where you can apparently save someone from being run over by hitting the driver in the face with a soccer ball. I don't really feel I can trust this show to handle its premise in an intelligent way.

Very disappointed with this episode :
1. Awkward faces when showing emotions
2. How the nurse tells that his brother died and then slaps him in the face O-o
3. Even after 2 months how they already have smiles on their faces like nothing happened
4. why did they change his face at the end? It seems Suguru is a side character and the real protagonist is his brother

Hmmm...not what I expected. It was obvious what was coming, but I didn't think it was going to be so boring and lame. :/

There was zero emotion in this episode. Everytime it started getting a little serious, they had a lame flashback...I don't want to know about how they met Nana, I want to see some freakin' reaction to Suguru's death! Anime needs to play with the emotions of the viewers, especially in sad death episodes.

Now is Kakeru going to take Suguru's place or something? I mean he already is inheriting his personality...soooo cliche.

Also, everything hospital related made me upset. Like:
>> how that doctor checked the heart beat and asked the girl "who's heart beat faster when you came in the room?"...give me a break.
>> how the doctor told him how his brother died...that should be the parents/family's place.
>>...then she slapped him. Seriously?
Well I guess that doctor made me mad, not he hospital...

I really was starting to like this series too. Hope next week is better.

It makes me puzzled how some people here are like ''This is SO unrealistic'' - Well no sh*t, this is anime. How do you think they're going to think up a story line for people to enjoy. Almost 90% of anime is unrealistic. If you want to watch a more realistic soccer anime, go watch Giant Killing. I think that Kakeru having his brother's spirit living in him is a cool idea... and if it makes him better at playing soccer then all for the better!

About this episode, it made me teary when Kakeru found out about his brother. His shocked expression and cry were perfect - or so I thought.

What annoyed me was that some of the facial drawings were abit off. I hope they are fixed by the next episode.

The last scene was stupid and cool at the same time XD

Blah. I'm not usually into sports anime, but this one seemed pretty promising. I'm fairly certain this episode ended that for me. I'll probably end up dropping it within the next few episodes. :/

Great set up for an awesome story but the writing and direction was horrible. It felt like Suguru didn't even exist after his accident. Seven being in the story was irrelevant other than they were childhood friends. It felt like Kakeru was more devastated when Seven moved away than his older brother dying... I don't know. I guess I was expecting something like Mitsuru Adachi's work but meh. Hope the soccer parts are good as Giant Killing but I'm not expecting that much from this show now.

Terrible episode. It was just plain terrible. It wasn't sad or depressing, it was really predictable, it wasn't a shock that dead!brother died, nor that alive!brother got his heart and survived. And here I was really excited for this anime after the first episode.

I agree. Depending on the series, it's usually fun to make fun of these types of mistakes (Guilty Crown) but i had expected better from Area no Kishi. I was really excited to be blogging this one, but judging from the manga readers' opinions i may decide to drop it completely if the animation staff is adding different things and taking out valuable scenes.

I honestly don't think the anime is going to sell well (sports animes except Oofuri never sell well) and i read on AnimeSuki that the tv ratings for the show are horrible, like 0.3 or something close to that. So i guess the only real reason for this series would be to expand the manga readership.

Meh, oh well i'll give it two more episodes before i'll drop it from blogging (i'll still watch..maybe).

Base on the narration at the last part of ep1, i already figured that Suguru will eventually die at the first few ep of the story. Now the question is "Which do you think it was who responded to your voice?" damn that was such a badass nurse, i like her.
I was really anticipating for a funeral scene cause the drama scene at the hospital just wasn't strong enough. If the atmosphere of the story remains the way it is then i'm afraid that i may have to drop this anime pretty soon.

This phenomenon is not some crazy anime bullshit at all. Get some general knowledge before you play smart-asses.

Anyway the episode was decent but i felt that the director failed to show the drama as good as he could, as others said the director failed at creating any atmosphere. Also the animation really seemed bad.
