Hmm... wondering if a second season or OVA would work... manga time!
Don't forget.

Well, this anime was razonable... Some episodes and mainly episode 9/10 rescued the anime, i think that final fight should be better, i expected more. The characters were well chosen, until the theme was well availed... well, could be better. 7/10

(P.S.: I'm waiting for next season!)

Very anti-climactic and open ending, but the direction, atmosphere and development of the series were so good it deserves a 9/10. It was clearly missing some episodes though and a second season would be more than welcome.

So disappointed with this show. When the season began I thought this would be my favorite, but somewhere down the road it became only second. I liked the setting, the characters and the plot, but I believe that it was not handled very well, especially the ending. Could have used at least one more episode, felt like they just cut the story to give a 2-3 minutes long epilogue. I'll be generous and give it an 8 overall, even though a 7 would probably be more suitable. 3/5 for the ep.

lol fail fail fail ending. What the fuck was all that?

Apparently the almighty Mysteltainn can only be defeated by not giving up. lmao the hell?

Awful finish with lots of untied holes. Thinking of giving it a 6 but bleh 7 since at least the 12 first episodes were at least decent.

Why is everyone declaring an ending for this anime?
Clearly the characters have a lot more to do...it's highly likely that there'll be a second season. How could you even call that an ending anyway :\
Like that other guy said, this feelsl like an ending to an arc, and it probably will be.

And I kinda feel pissed off with how everyone's dissing this based on that....

This is the worst anime winter 2011, in my opinion. It had the potential to be good but turned out to be really boooring.
I think I know why. Because of the soudtrack. The music that plays during the action scenes are so boring. And really, I don't like the pattern of the series. It's always the same. Character introduced, day dream world, back to reality. And the last episode was finished WAY to fast. I'm surprised so many seems to like this ._.'
I don't want to have a season two.

Nice final!!! Last fight was awesome, and John Doe retruned in a certain sense.... His sword is great!!!
I'm a little bit upset for last 5 minutes.... it was a classic japanese final: cut scene and opening final.... probably we will see a second season, there are Elcres and Merry situations to resolve........
Yumeji is best chara of this series, Engi is good chara, too........
I give to this series 8.5, Last five minutes are 0.5 points minus.......

I want to report that this anime after firsts two episodes didn't impress me, but it has become more and more beautiful.... it doesn't easy......

Wow what the fuck? As much as I loved watching this show, the last episode was a complete letdown.

First of all, it felt rushed every minute of the episode. Second, the emotions/acting were mediocre (as in it didnt seem authentic). Thirdly, what kind of resolve is that?!?! What about the fucking light house dude?

The Mistilltain fight was more like an arc than a finale. I wanted to know what was going to happen to Yumekui but I guess that's for a possible season II. Still, it was retarded. Don't even know why Mistilltain hesitated so much with killing. Animators could have changed the pace on that. And Merry breaking out of that Bud of Despair so easily? ...lame. What's up with her being naked in it too..?

My 8/10 for this anime has turned to 7/10. If only the last episode was better.

I'm still confused what was supposed to have happened with Chris Evergreen. Mei being fine afterward seemed contrary to all their oh so dramatic concern that Merry couldn't send muma back. The main thing I liked about this series was the characters, which was more that they were refreshingly likable for a shounen than actually interesting.

Everything is explained later. It's explained quite late in the source material.

Er... no. This isn't something to get explained later. I'm not asking what specifically happened to Chris so much as why he never came up during the tens of times they deliberated on whether Merry could send mumas back. Did they just forget about it? Did I miss something in the scene that made it seem like they might have killed him or like Mei had lost her dreams?

It is more complicated than that.

Human can haves many dreams and if they do they won't go emo just because one shattered, they will only feel more empty so in some case it is hardly possible for a third person to say if her dream shattered or not.
It's quite the opposite, this case would only make them wonder even more in Merry's ability.
Mei's case is also kind of special.
Her dream was her love interest. Her encounter with Chris was what allowed her to make the point on her feeling and move foward.
Even if Chris would have been killed at this point there would most probably have been no difference than if he would have been sent back.
Rather than seeing her dream being shattered she accepted to move foward and let her dream go by itself, basically after understanding herself she discarded it.

So really it isn't really possible for them to take this case into account, they did not forget them it's just that it posed so many questions and that there were a lot of uncertainity that they couldn't use it as an argument.

Should have been more awesome especially since it was from J.C. Staff(I guess all studious go through times like these If it end here then 6/10 but if there is a second season then maybe about 8/10 since that will allow the show to set up for an actual closure

So that's all? No Merry's past? What a bleh ending ;o; I was expecting so much more when i started watching this anime thought they would show more about Merry and say she was Yumeji's childhood friend or something - based on the opening where it shows both running - T_T & those battles in the end for some reason were boring for me, Yumeji getting power from nowhere and still, boring.
Guess i'll search for the manga, maybe i can have more fun reading it.

I actually love the art especially in the beginning of the anime series! XD I like Merry's character! But I'm not to keen with the ending and I think that's not the ending at all in the manga.. It has potential but it doesn't really answer anything from the start.. And the fight was okay but not really cool.. it falls short in the entertainment bit.. All in all, I enjoyed it especially the animation and the story plot so an 8.. So I'll read the manga then to satisfy this curiosity.. Dang! another Pandora Hearts eh? The manga is perfect but the ending of the anime ruined that perfectness.. >.<

You know...couldn't Merry have killed the teacher in the dream to just end everything? That would leave the tree girl with no vessel...

Also, I was expecting Nightmare Form Merry (or whatever it's called), and a cameo from John.

Oh well, waiting on a second season...

wow this was fucking garbage i was gonna give this a 7 but it just dropped to a 5 after this shit.

half the music playing in the background noticeably didnt fit their scenes at all, a very anti-climactic ending to the battle, that whole scene with yumeji summoning the chainsaw-thing turned out to be completely pointless, there was no sense of victory after the battle. there were so many things that this episode did wrong i could keep goin.

why the fuck was she randomly playing an "air trombone"?

Holy crap it seems that the quotes from every Disney movie were taken and put into this one episode. I believe? Never giving up? Oh please, this was more cliche than any American war movies that has been produced this decade.

What a let down, I REALLY wanted John Doe to appear with Yumeji to kick that bit*ch's ass right there and then. And speaking of him, WTF was he for the past 4+ episodes?

We just got a common ending. What about Pharos? And John Doe? This anime deserved to have 24 episodes, not to be sloppy in 13 ones.

7/10 : characters are rather endearing, and the OST is very good.

Wow what a piece of garbage, this shoud be at the bottom of the drain with mars of destruction because this was god awful, i made myself watch the whole thing to punish myself for starting this crappy show. When yui was doing her invisible trombone thing, i was like .....wtf? i just didnt get it, also it seemed like every episode somebody was crying about something stupid which then had no emotional impact at all because it was stupid, the main culprit of this was merry. I feel that this series would have been better off focusing on john doe being a badass rather than everybody else's hysterics.
This show gets a 3/10 from me i would of given it a 1 but an okay OST and john doe made me put the series up to a 3.
Rant over, glad to get that off my chest anyway.

I want to dislike Yumekui Merry. I started watching with no expectations. I knew it had problems and it had a trash ending. I knew the director had stumbled around. I knew it looked like a potluck of cliches. Still, damn the real/dream world idea for getting me interested. Damn the dream analyses and how they were just barely touched on. Damn Merry's mysterious powers, her cute outfit, and her stupid awesome hat. This was a piece of crap that was polished to a shine.

Well, onto the manga I guess.

That ending was almost as bad as ''Soul Eater''. ACTUALLY, NO! THIS WAS WORSE! I've never seen so many plot holes, unrelated scenes, and pointless rambling scenarios in my entirety of watching anime. Oh my goodness. What a tragic failure of an anime. I loved the beginning of this anime and had such high expectations. THANK GOD, I didn't watch this series week after week and waited till all the episodes were released. I would have been twice as disappointed! What a let down. I'm giving it a VERY, VERY generous 5/10, and I don't even know why. Gee, such a waist of time. I've lost all faith in J.C. Staff. What was I thinking. I pray to god they don't make a second season. Save yourself the budget to work with J.C. Staff. Hire some better script writers or just take a swing at a totally different anime. Anything but another season of this. ''Yumekui Merry'' completed. Such a pathetic way to end an anime.

I want a second season. I do agree that the ending was kind of half assed, but some of the other comments pointed out that the things I was hoping for (like more of Merry's keys) would have been impossible if we wanted to keep following the manga. I can accept that, and still wish for a better ending, but I accept that the ending can't be perfect no matter what. That one line; "my dream is to never give up" or something like that, was incredibly lame. I'm not going to blame the director, and just hope he had nothing to do with the script, because other than that he was really darn good and set a marvelous pace and atmosphere.

Earlier I complained that he doesn't really understand moe, but now that I finished this series I feel like I was wrong about that. It's not that he doesn't understand, it's that he never matched the other aspects of the series to his idea of moe. I've seen great shows that combine horror and moe (like Elfen Lied or Higurashi), but this was one of the few attempts I've seen to combine a dark brooding atmosphere with moe. I can't say it worked, but I disagree with the director who said it was a failure. He made a good thing happen, even if it wasn't perfect. His ideas of slow action weren't wrong, even if they didn't attract a mass-market appeal. Lots of ideas commercially failed in their infancy only to be revived later on in a more accessible manner. I sort of feel like this anime was the same way. I'm sure lots of the approaches we found in this show will reappear in more popular shows in the future. While I'm waiting for the formula to be perfected, I would sure appreciate a season two though ;)

Manga was very good, i even rated it as a masterpiece, so i was glad to watch this anime. I pretty much liked t, but the last episode ruined it. If it wasn`t for that, i would rate it as a "very good" or even "exellent", but for the last episode being terrible i rate it "fine". 6/10

Yumeji was suppoused to acquire this power later in the story, and it wasn`t suppoused to be pulled out of nowhere. Merry was suppoused to revive her confidence also later in the story. Engi being able to heal like that will contradict the story in the continuaton, since she does not posses any abilities that would enable her to recover in mere minutes after being injured. That Forest bitch was awesome from the beginning, especially since she is a filler character, but the way she lost was terrible. If they were gonna defeat her so easily with their own power, then they shouldn`t have lost to her so miserably before that.

But it`s a relief that they didn`t contradict manga too much. It`s still possible to make a sequel without straying away from original story. Only few changes are required to return to manga`s scenario.

Well, this is a somehow sad example of budget being all used up too early. Hence a rushed ending. After the 12th episode and even the first half of number 13, I thought: They will never ever put a happy ending to this series in half an episode. But they did.

Hopefully, JC Staff will redo and modify the last episode as a pilot for a season 2. Like OreImo, ya know?

"In your dreams."

Yes exactly. That's what the show was about. I summon you, John Doe, do(e) something to save my day!

This show needs a season 2 too many things left out (IMO). Aka Pharos he's supposed to be the main antagonist of the series, but yet we see him like one time and hes doing nothing at all. John Doe we don't know much about either he wanted to take over yumejis body, but still hasn't tried again or that he decided not too; seeing as how he helped him heal.

I hope for a season 2 of this, it was fun and entertaining to watch.

Well. So that's how it ends.

That wasn't *too* bad, although I do agree that there were a good handful of unanswered questions and missed details. I would've loved to see some of the filler events in the earlier episodes (whatever happened to Minato?) replaced by some behind stories and character development that would've set up for the second "part" of the story, if you will...

Like, how Ijima ended up with Jyukai, or Kawanami's inner conflict in becoming friends with Isana. Or better portraying Yumeji's uncertainty of his future (which could've been a nice buildup what with what he suddenly says in this last episode: "My dream is to not give up!").

And of course, Merry's future remaining completely unresolved, with little development in her relationship with Yumeji, was a disappointment.

That being said, I still very much enjoyed most of the series - even the scenes many people found boring. And this episode did give me that slightly bittersweet open ending with lines to think about. (I especially liked how some of the characters' perceptions about dreams changed over time - Engi for example) The characters were pretty likeable too. ^.^;;

I'm definitely going to be reading the manga, and I wouldn't really hesitate to check out a season 2 that... doesn't seem as all over the place. Too bad the latter seems far-fetched with this much negative reception. (inb4 obligatory "no dreams no hope" comment)

Pretty good ending. I liked it. Some people seemed confused, but as someone mentioned earlier, it felt like the end of an arc, not a season. It left a few things open for a season 2 to be possible. So I'm hoping there is one for plot holes to be filled and questions to be answered. But I will admit the ending was executed awkwardly. I wanted to see Merry go badass like she did earlier in the season.

I hope there is a season 2 coming soon, because I think Merry has potential.

I give Dream Eater Merry an 8/10
