Good anime, i liked the atmosphere, characters, music... music was especially good. I wanted to see more Naofumi & Raphtalia scenes, but... i suppose i have to wait for the next two seasons! |

It's a shame that after a strong start it derailed out of control and never quite recovered. One of the main problems of the anime is the poor writing in general. The writing of villians and characters are laughable. There are so many stupid moments in this anime but there one that was so stupid that made me laugh out loud and that was when Malty gets caught again. Malty gets a slap in the wrist for high treason, 1 episode later immediately tries to assasinate MC, gets caught, Queen gets told and nothing happens again, no consequences. Later on she still with Lance guy's party which makes absolutely no sense. I am sure she learned her lesson and wouldn't try to kill the MC for a 3rd time would she?? Of course not. Her plot armor is strong. Its pretty clear that the 3 stooges and Malty are only there to be shit characters for the sole purpose to make the MC look good because otherwise i don't understand their stupidity at all. It's the only thing that makes sense. Very poor writing. Overall it's generic isekai which starts with potential strong themes but ends as a cleverly disguised Harem anime. A generous 5/10 |

I actually thought this would have been a lot more of an impact for an isekai as there was quite the hype for it especially with the characters being quite popular. But it felt rather generic for an isekai in my honest opinion. It's certainly not bad but also nothing out of the ordinary special so I'm personally a bit confused to why this got such a high praise and rating. That said I still quite enjoyed watching it! All in all a pretty damn fine anime! |

Oh, pretty disappointed by the way this anime turned out. Honestly the first episodes got me: I enjoyed the dark-wannabe side of the plot with the struggle of the hero and the conspiration he was getting into, his discovery of the world through xp farming/selling drops/creating a party. Generally speaking the beginning of the anime really felt credible for its MMORPG aspect. But after 25 episodes, it ended up like any other generic anime: badass MC has his harem, we got the usual crazy church part, and honestly no one can say the story telling worth it (they even managed to put a beach episode !)... The bases were good for doing an interesting show, but it ended up just better than the average of its peers. Which is definitely not much. I watched it for its reputation & the memes, and in the end I'm not even sure it worth it. I would definitely agree with the previous comment: RafaelDeJongh said: It's certainly not bad but also nothing out of the ordinary special so I'm personally a bit confused to why this got such a high praise and rating. |

Marinate1016 said: i have only read the manga and i remember some parts differently but overall it was a good show 8/10 for me :)))How have people made reviews and how do the mods get these threads up so fast? Advanced screenings or y'all live in Japan?? Anyway, I don’t recall naofumi hesitating to drain Glass’s SP in the LN.. they changed the reshia situation so much it’s almost a complete rewrite of the story, ffs. They basically crammed the last half of volume 5 and first half of 6 into 10 minutes... and rewrote it on top of that. Now I’m not 10000 percent sure, but I did just finish vol 6 like 3 days ago and I don’t recall them building a fort in that Demi human village... they picked up Raphtalia’s friend and that’s it.. Damn this anime got really generic at the end, still a solid fight to end the season, and I enjoyed it, but man they’ve got some things to improve in season 2. Mainly the pacing. pretty sure they’ll be in Isekai Quartet so that’ll be cool to see. Really recommend reading the LN's if you haven't already, there's so much left out and changed especially down the stretch. Solid 8/10. |

I am very disappointed because there are some events that were misrepresented in the anime and they are almost different from them in the LN but I really enjoyed the story really I cannot express especially this episode was wonderful because the wave this time was different and I was amazed by L'Arc and Therese that they are heroes from another world and with them Glass as well I thought she was just an enemy like the monsters that came from the wave, so she also wanted to protect her own world But Naofumi has enough problems with the three heroes to contend with heroes from another world haha. I think he will have to fight them. |

I dunno why but i literally teared out when Naofumi and Rapthalia final moments before the ending, flashback to the times when Rapthalia was still young and all the hardships they've gone through with Naofumi. I really love this ep and a good ending, waiting for season 2 so baddd~ .Though, the final battle between Glass and Naofumi is somewhat cliffhanger in a way buf understandable. See you all in season 2 forums! |

Anime with an interesting beginning that made me think of it as a not a regular isekai but unfortunately it is a regular isekai. It has the whole package: yet another rage mode, OP MC, hints of harem genre, as the show goes on it feels like MC is gradually loosing his uniqueness and turning into yet another all around nice guy, so to speak. By the end It felt disappointing but, hey , I would lie if I said I haven't gotten at least a little bit of an enjoyment out of it. In my eyes it is still much more superior to any season of SAO. |

The Rising of the Shield Hero is the first isekai anime I've watched. It's not perfect but I'm glad I watched it. The characters are great, this show has one of the most lovable and hatable characters (looking at you B*tch). I think this is a great conclusion for this first season. Can't wait for season 2. |

I powered through this whole thing just to see what the hype was all about. Am a little disappointed, but that's just because I wasn't expecting much. I always enjoy the first episodes of these, i think the set up is great and the potential is always there. But yeah no this show wasn't for me |

This series had potential. If only they could've characterized the side characters better. It was understandable in the beginning but after the MC proved his place they all still act like idiots. |

I came with a great expectation because I was told that it is very good isekai, I usually avoid those works, except for konosuba and fuck... tremendous disappointment, it started well, but then became one more isekai. The only good thing is the Sountrack made by Kevin Penkin. |

Was extremely sceptical about what my final thoughts were gonna be about this anime, but honestly i think i can safely say i liked it. Non the less nothing is perfect and this anime definitely had its down sides. My opinion throughout this anime most definitely fluctuated, but these are my final thoughts about it. 7/10 Story wise, i liked the plot, the setting, the whole gist of the 4 cardinal heroes + wave system and the whole RPG game element that it really falls down into. What i loved even more, was the twist of Naofumi getting immediately shunned under acquisitions, and the more serious tones that followed it, really felt more like a reality slap that this wasn't a game and shit can get real fast. Then having to dig his way up back to glory, going through blood sweat and tears, to finally get back to his position, and have that sweet feeling of revenge when justice was finally done. However, i feel like an issue with the story itself, would be it can sometimes be cliche as shit, with some extremely cheesy and foreseeable plot points, that are either there to force progress the story regardless of how questionable it can be. Along with some of the dialogue in this anime, this anime definitely in my opinion had issues taking this pretty serious plot, and continuing to make it this gritty, bloody, "trust no one" anime that i hoped it could be, instead having more of the "power of friendship" aspect taking control more. But really, overall i liked the story. I found the progression within the story pretty ok, keeping a decent pace of action, thrilling and suspenseful moments, along with downtime for the characters. Following Naofumi's story, i really liked the very serious twist at the start, that for me showed this anime wanted to do something differently. Watching this man go from gold to dirt, then back up to gold was a really amazing. Seeing him improvise, no money, no allies, no reputation, seeing him take a more antagonistic approach (e.g. getting Raphtalia and Filo through the slave trader, not really doing anything for free, expecting payment for helping others) by pretty much being forced into it was super interesting for me. His relationship that started with Raphtalia, then grew out to Filo, then Melty, was really well done and i felt like it did well at captivating the feeling of family and ability to lean on each other so much. I enjoyed watching Naofumi and the gang have to traverse different terrains to avoid imprisonment, while still making a living, mostly from being the clean-up crew for the rest of the heroes. I really liked how Noafumi himself slaps each of them with a hand of reality, and tears into them one by one into how absurd and stupid there ideals and actions are. The story was very much like a rocky hill in terms of keeping my interest. I found myself on and off being interested with where the story was heading, (might just be a me thing) but i at certain points of the story, found myself not enjoying it as much as before, due to it maybe lacking behind and kinda feeling like a drag. This happened a lot, and probably the most in-between arcs, were things would slow down a bit, but sometimes to much to a point where i lost interest. One thing i also found this anime having, was good lead up, iffy execution. By this i mean, lets say the lead up to the fight against pope or the anti-shield cult. The lead up was amazing, they were hinting at a hidden force that was maybe pulling strings beneath the kingdom, undetected unto so later on until bam before you know it shits getting real. However the way they executed the final part felt so, eh. Don't get me wrong, i didn't think the end result was completely bad, but i didn't necessarily think the end result was reliving (unless we are talking about the King and Malty's trial, then in that case i on several different stages of a dopamine rush) The fight with the pope was, interesting. It felt kinda unrealistic and flimsy with the whole "he's building huge ass citadel, he's slowly powering up his moves from the mass of people!" but it was also a good point in the story for the heroes to get together and fight as one. I just feel like overall, maybe with some refining some things could of gone a tad bit better, especially with the script. My god some of the the lines in there are either cliche MC lines ripped straight out of the book, or one liner sentences that make me eat my own fist. 5/10 Characters wise. They felt, decent at best in terms of likeability and development. The main cast itself was likeable and bare able. Each of them had their big developing moments which i can say were pretty outstanding and ok. However side character ,such as the the 3 cardinal heroes, felt so incredibly, useless that it just made them so unlikeable for me. There is a point when making characters purposely unlikeable, where i feel like enough is enough. This anime felt like they just kept going with it, making them even shittier to the point where when they did gain some sort of attraction, likeability or somewhat competence, i already disliked them enough that i barely changed my views on them. Naofumi himself, was a good mc in my opinion, he fitted the role of an outcast well only trusting himself and a selected few others as well as planning his next moves well. Having building from the ground up regarding his reputation, then also slowly developing that feeling of a father towards Raphtalia and that in total helped him branch out to recruiting other allies like Filo or Melty was great to watch. His character all in all is good. His development however, was a bit on the iffy side. I can't blame him for the margin of his inspiration of power being the "power of friendship" because at least in this anime, i genuinely reasoned with it and could sympathy with him on wanting to protect Raphtalia, Filo, Malty, who were pretty much his family. My only issue would be sometimes i felt like his character would dip from "being a super serious, cautious" character to a more "edgy 13 year old" especially in terms of dialogue. True this is probably more of an anime problem then his character problem, but his there are cases where he just start spewing the most, cliche MC shit you could imagine. Like regarding when Raphtalia was thinking what to do with the wounded slaver, and looking at Naofumi for help. Honestly, the best thing to do in his position regarding the extreme sensitive topic for Raphtalia, was to probably let her decide, not spit out some heroic speech about right and wrong, towards a subject you were never a part of. Raphtalia's character was also pretty enjoyable, i definitely enjoyed seeing her interactions with Naofumi, and her watching how much she made a difference in his life. Their gradual bond to each other was definitely heart-warming and i'm really happy about what they did with it. However again, a downside would be i felt like Raphtalia character also slowly became this, sound board that only had one button that said "Naofumi-sama!" nearer to the end of the anime. Her slow background reveal was, in my opinion, well done, hinting at it throughout until finally she has to face her past herself. And just like the majority of things in this anime, thought the lead up was good, but the execution was iffy. The slaver arc was what i saw as massive character development for her, for her to finally confront and let go of her past and to walk on her own two feat. But my god was it so... cliche? "If i kill you, i'll be no better then you" oh my god. (this could be me getting my morals mixed up) I'm sorry but how does killing a slave trader, who has literally for years tortued and soled thousands of children and adults to the market, how is killing him going to put you on an equal level as you? This has to be on the the worst cases of cliche ,fantasy, shoenun dialogue this anime has. To put insult to injury as well, this was suppose to be Raphtalia's moment, her choice to make, so why then turn back to Naofumi, making her character seem like she can't make her own decisions without his aid, especially for something so personal that only she can act on. Onto the most tiresome, The other 3 cardinal heroes, i mean i understand there point is to, at the beginning, disagree and shun Naofumi, but my God at least give them some brains. Even after, they felt more like robots, never really questioning anything, only until halfway through at least, but i mean even after that they still felt so stupidly useless and braindead it was just boring. They felt like paper mache balls that would get thrown at a problem, doing little to nothing until Noafumi arrives, after that kinda just making it predictable that at the end of the day, he'll be the one to actually pull through and clean up the mess. It came to a point (especially nearer the end) where you could probably remove the three out of the mix, and i don't think anyone would have cared, nor would of it would have actually affected the outcome of the majority of fights. Whether it was the anime's intention to make them feel like this, i couldn't say. i'm no anime studio. One character in particular, I could go on for lines about how bad i feel towards, would probably be Motoyasu's character, from the fact that this anime only seems to see him as nothing but cardboard. But to keep it short, i get he's suppose to be Malty's play thing, that she's suppose to manipulate him, that he's suppose to be the thick skulled "i'm always right" character but throughout the anime, they reminded us so much about his ability to be a complete ass hat that it just got, boring? Like it was the same thing, Malty sets something up against Naofumi, tells Motoyasu, Motoyasu's soaks it in like a sponge and challenges Naofumi, rince repeat. It got really repetitive for me, like they almost completely stripped him of any other development, or any ability to make him a some what likeable guy and just left him. On the plus side, after the pope fight, and Malty being accused of false accusations, Motoyasu did change and developed to not trust her as much, but even then (this admittedly is probably me being stubborn at this point) i do not believe that even an entire redemption arc, can save this man from how bad his character has become. Ok, thats my whining over, don't get me wrong although there seems to be a lot more bad then good, i still whole heartedly enjoyed this anime. Other side characters, like Berocas or L'Arc, i'll give the anime credit to for keeping their secrecy for so long. For Berocas case, he always carried this shady aura with him, acting as Noafumi's main source of power at the beginning, his true intentions were pretty welL'Arc's character My only notable characters that i somewhat fully enjoyed were, Elhart cus he's a bro and actually didn't eat up all the shit at the start about Naofumi like the rest, and put somewhat thought into it. Queen Melromarc not cus shes hot because she also was way more competent than the rest of the characters, she knew that the most effective way to fight the waves was to actually alliance the 4 heroes together, trying her best at so. She even personally went into the fights herself which i'll give her props to. 7/10 Art and visual wise, the anime is good. Design for characters like their armour and weapons, feels very RPG like, as well as monsters seeming to be all different in forms and sizes showing some creativity in design. The fight scenes were all pretty good, effects for ability's and weapons clashing were good and all in all this anime felt like it kept a more or less consist good visual style to the end. Honourable mentions however go to CGI Magic T-Rex, gone but not forgotten. 7/10 Sfx wise, it was ok, nothing to serious but enough to keep my liking. OP and ED's were very good, really liked them a lot. Both OP's in my opinion fit the anime extremely well, maybe the first one a bit more then the second, All in all, this anime has its goods and bads, and more or less the last question is, did i actually enjoy this anime? Honestly, yeh i did. For all the downsides it might have, i really enjoyed this anime enough to give it an 8/10. I loved Naofumi's relationship with his partners, his stoic, father figure that he has towards his companions, and the story that keeps getting better and better. Really liked it, looking forward to s2 most definitely. |

Yeah, its confirmed. Its even only an introduction. How funny. The waves were a gimmick. Its just a plot device to make our one and only hero, shield hero, enjoyed his isekai life better than before. Drastically its change. Because of what? Peoples loved an edgy lord, and Naofumi showed his potential to be the most edge lord, ever. Case closed. Oh, and i even need to closed my full pharagraph with those tab, only to feel relief over these episode. Please, pay no mind, okay? Such a shamed that Melty kept acting tsun the entire episode. I mean the fuck? Just hug him you hypocrite kid, and became adorable like Firo! Not gonna mentioned Raph, tho. Beside her dang past, its saved to assume first girl always win, and she even got a boosted up body appearance in order to make her a bit legal. Another case closed. My guy, slave trader surprisingly a decent char. I keep wondering, if he didn't appeared there, what kind of story thise one have? So i am mentioning him cause to worth my time. What about the three musketeers. Nah. Even i don't even realized that the sword hero was actually voiced by Matsuoka, by how lame his characterization was, or i must say, its his fate to be designed as a dumb side char. Lol, keep its based as its best, i understand. Okay, i don't need any crap, and lemme clear my deal here that its just fine. The story seemed very generic from the beginning. The elements of surprised called drama actually made the series felt live. However, its still written poorly that i always puke hard with how they handled the interaction overwhelmingly. Their side characters beside the party just insanely annoying. Some of it were decent. But at the end, its just for the sake of a comic relief to living up the gloomy nuance and heavy-drama theme, until they leaked a huge twist regarding the waves. Yeah one random people called it an inter-world battle royale among the heroes, isekai within the isekai. So i don't be surprised if somehow shield hero got transported into another world. I thought its just an easy play that was about to destroy the monster. But, the waves itself included to the drama element. So i just laughed with that kind of revelation. Oh well. I don't even know what direction of the next season. The waves are not even finished until they defeated the other heroes, or sacrificed themself to actually saved two worlds. Ironic, but thats how the story worked out. As the score, this is my mind that truly biased for one and another aspect: Story: 5 Art animation: 7 Sounds: 9 Characters: 5 Enjoyment: 7 (+2 for Raph and Firo, others are just trash) Overall its still suited well to my 7/10. Cause i just fuckin love with genki blob chick, but loli. You get that? That's it for me. And peace, plebs. |

So the other three heroes did not redeem themselves, they were just beaten and retreated after our generic hero decided not to kill his enemy in a death battle. There is a 100% chance that these pieces of shit will become allies later on though, yay... First half was great, second half was meh at best. What looked like a revenge story with a strict and serious protagonist, became your usual isekai show with a good-two-shoes generic hero trying to save everyone. What diminished my enjoyment the most were all those trash characters that can just continue to be retarded with no punishment at all. Malty, King, Motoyasu and Therese by all means should die as fast as possible in the 2nd season to improve upon the 1st one. 6/10 |

Not much worth mentioning in this series. It started a little differently, but quickly became the same as the usual isekai while continuously having the same flaws, as well. |

I watched this anime within like...3 days i think. From the very start, i was hooked! The art style was lovely, the fantasy and game themes interesting and different than what i was used to. From the start when everything went to shit for the main protagonist i was surprised and knew that i was going to be in for the long haul to see how things developed! It was refreshing to see a MC that wasn't so outwardly righteous as the others. Watching his motivation to become strong change from just trying to get home...to now having friends he wanted to protect..to genuinely wanting to save the people of the world was quite the journey. I love raphtalia and naofumi and i look forward to seeing more of their moments in the future!! I can agree that it seems a little odd that naofumi ended up with a team of all girls, I'm hoping we end up with some diversity with the party members. As for what happened with the punishments for 'bitch' and 'trash', I understand why some would be frustrated seeing that they got off to a rather easy punishment, but not everything is automatically better if the wrong-doer is killed. It was clear that such an act would not clear Naofumi's contempt toward them, as well as the struggle it would have put the queen and melty through as well. I don't think they have gotten everything they deserve but it doesn't make me dislike the anime any less. Bitch will get what she has coming, I'm sure. Anyways my opinion may be biased because i have not seen an excess of isekai anime, but this one was definitely new to me and i look forward to future seasons! |

I like it how Naofumi did all the work and for some reason "all" of them defeated the wave? Like what the hell did the other 3 "heroes" did they just randomly attack L'Arc a single time and got complete destroyed Basically Naofumi,Raphtalia,Filo,Melty almost did everything including defeating Glass,L'arc, and Theresa 10/10 |

Disappointing. Generic isekai, with tons of bad writing. It's almost like everyone else aside from the MC become useless hero. Imagine throwing a very shallow combo and calling it their best. Random Deus ex machina whenever the party is losing. Melty and Motoyasu should just drop dead lmao. Other character is just as forgettable as the protagonist. |

Later on she still with Lance guy's party which makes absolutely no sense. I am sure she learned her lesson and wouldn't try to kill the MC for a 3rd time would she?? Of course not. Her plot armor is strong. makes perfect sense sins spear hero is brain-dead simp 😂😂😂😂😂 |

Finally, it's over. The show really became a chore. Seriously, so many things are wrong. That idealistic power of friendship stupidity, that whole "Let's not kill ennemies or else we'll be like them" mentality, Naofumi being absolutely unbearable, nothing having any dramatic consequence, and so many other thinhs annoyed me so much... I tried to keep an open mind when watching this show even if it's not my cup of tea. But in the end I just couldn't. So I give it a 4/10, because it wasn't the worst show I've ever seen but it just wasn't good. |

Hello, anime fans! I don't mean anything disrespectfully, but I make things from anime out of caps. In this video, you can see how I built Naofumi's shield! :) https://youtu.be/NYD6HRQNPk0 |

The first half is pretty good, the second half was okay, it has good fight scenes but overall it wasn't a waste of time. 6/10 |

“Read as little as possible of critical or aesthetic works. They are either products of a close-minded spirit, petrified and devoid of meaning in their lifeless hardening, or clever verbal games [...]. Works of art are of an infinite solitude; nothing is worse than criticism for approaching them. Only love can grasp them, keep them, be just toward them. Always give precedence to your own feeling against these analyses, these reviews, these introductions. [...] You must let every impression, every seed of feeling, ripen within you, in the dark, in the inexpressible, in the unconscious, those regions closed to understanding. Wait with humility and patience for the hour of the birth of a new clarity. Art demands of its faithful followers as much as of its creators.” — RAINER-MARIA Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet (letter dated April 23, 1903). |

Based on what I read (volume 10 so far), rest assured they will be more romantic moments between the two This makes me happy!! |

Final few scenes with Raphtalia, Naofumi and Seyatte for this season were decent, but that's about the longest stretch that I found passable in this whole season. The first half of the episode with the continuation of the Wave battle with Glass involved was really, really mediocre and forgettable here. This show was underwhelming beyond expectations, I'm stunned that I found the first few episodes to be really good back then, I really am. I feel like then I was in an alternate dimension or something. Season 2 airing in a few months from now eh, is there an actual plot to look forward to then? Probably not. Even the shitty stuff with Bitch and Trash ended uneventfully and now its like all that didn't matter except the name changes. I was shitting on that Slime anime a lot in the rewatch but this was easily worse. |

Best part to me of the episode is when he took Lecia in his squad, he knew the pain of being framed and treated like an outcast & had the heart to understand and help her out of it like how raphtalia and filo did for him Naofumi has grown so much, its just heartwarming, |

It was a great season and with a great ending. I think Naofumi shouldn't be in doubt when attacking Glass, because if he didn't, he and his friends that he so much wants to defend and says are important, will die. I hope that next season improve the way the Shield of Rage works, because every time Naofumi lost control, his friends only needs to talk with him that he regained control over power. I didn't really understand, did Naofumi tell Raphtalia that he's going to stay in this world even when the waves run out? Or did he just say that there is only the possibility that he will decide to stay? |

this is the only 25-episode anime that I watched in one sitting. I usually just binge animes with only 12 episodes, so that's that. I enjoyed watching it, loved most of the cast especially the bald shop owner and the slave merchant. It's a sunday well spent for me!!! |

I finally finished the last Episode and loved the Ending. It's absolutely adorable and a love letter to Naofumi and Raphtalias relationship. The first half of the Anime is easily a 9/10 for me, because the pacing and development is great. All of the darker themes are very well explored and the cast got a great dynamic. While I enjoy the second half as well, there are some weird writing decisions and pacing problems. However, I enjoyed the addition of melty and her character arc in the second part. Her sister Malty finally gets what she deserves, but her sentence should be more harsh. Raphtalia was fleshed out, got a good amount of character development and enough time to shine. It's overall a good experience and one of my favorite isekai anime. 7.5-8/10 Can't wait for season 2 |
