I don't get the complaints. Yes, it's a recap episode, but at the very least it has its own substance with original scenes and they did the same with second season's first episode where it was also put out as a recap episode for the first season.

Also, "spoilers in the opening" isn't anything new... A LOT of shows have done the exact same thing. And as some have said earlier, the same was done all the time like with season 1 and 2 where they revealed a bunch of important fights from within the seasons they were shown in. Plus, anime-only viewers wouldn't really know much since it's still out of context for them. Really, it's just help a lot of us to anticipate the fights that are coming in the near future.

I mean, Luffy from One Piece says that he will become the Pirate King. Naruto says that he would become Hokage. Boku no Hero Academia is more like an origin story to show the viewers/readers of how he got to that point.

Didn't know that they would do both arcs in the first cour. If i remember correctly the next 2 arcs were about the same length as the tournament and stain arc, so i thought that it would be the same as the second season (one arc and opening up to episode 12/13 and then next arc and new opening up to 25).

Next 2 arcs combined will be at least 20 episodes, so i was just confused.

Great start! I highly enjoyed the approach that this first episode came out with, summarising some of the events from different character’s point of views and once again recalling back their one true objective.

This episode looked more like a buildup for the next arc, whatever it is, to come. The swimming competition was lit xD, with Midoriya really the only true winner of the competition. Iida v Midoriya was a close match too, and it was awesome to see both use their full powers. Only had the teacher spared moments later, we could have seen who’d won that battle, but it was cool to see him using his power too. Looks like the Villians are up to something, on the other hand.

Sound Department played their part in this opening episode. I, particularly, liked the dynamic Op with the catchy visuals. It really blends in with the context of the show masterfully. As for the ED, it’s got a nice tone to it but I prefer the older ED over this one. It was fairly good nonetheless!

This wasn’t by any means a serious episode, but it is just enough to rekindle my moods and interest for the show. Now, I’m hyped to see how this Season will fare.

Not sure if its just me but Midoriya's head doesn't really fit his body :/

I don't know about Luffy, but for Naruto, he always said : "I *will* become a hokage. As in it is his dream to become one. He also yelled that out in every chapter possible. As for BNHA the anime takes a viewpoint of : "It already happened. I became the best hero." which kind of spoils the hole outcome of the story, even if obvious, removes some "hype" instead. If there is some very dangerous situation, i know that Midoriya will end up all well and goody goody anyway. Also in manga Midoriya, at least to my memory, has never used past tense of already achieving his goal. (i have to go and double check now...)

Well, we manga readers already know what will happen and that it will be better than S2. Most of the ratings probably don't reflect episode 1, but rather the episodes yet to come. In the case that they somehow butcher the adaptation (which I doubt), I can still change my rating. But from the first episode, it looks like they will continue to perfectly adapt the manga, so I already know that I'll rate it 10/10 based on the manga content.

Not really a spoiler, this line comes from the last panel of chapter 1 from the manga. Only difference is that it says "great" instead of "greatest" in the manga. Still, was obvious right from the start that he will become the greatest hero. It's not about the goal, it's about the journey to reach that goal.

Pretty sad that it's a filler / recap, but from what critics were saying I expected way more recap, so I was pleasantly surprised with all the original scenes.
Don't like the new OP, maybe it'll grow on me though. The music doesn't seem to match with the visuals either.

Also see: Erazor being an absolute blue baller lol. And the ending made me smile. Can't wait for next week!

EDIT: after watching the OP 10+ times I really love the song, I still think the visuals don't really match though.

He said that he became the greatest hero in the end of Chapter 1 and the end of episode 2 in the first season. Although, depending on translations, chapter 1 says that he became "a great hero" instead of "greatest hero". He still says the same thing word for word in the original Japanese dialogue.

So yes, it's pretty much an origin story about Midoriya Izuku and how he became that great hero.

The MHA juggernaut train has come alive once again! =D

Although this was mostly a recap/filler episode, I thought it was pretty good. It still had some funny scenes, fanservice with the school swimsuits and the swimming race with the guys was amusing as well.

The new OP song sounds a lot different compared to the last three we had from the first and second seasons, but I like it so far. The ED animation was a nice touch of pencil drawings and a comic book-style animated panels that looked really nice. =)

All in all, I'm looking forward to next week already. Bring on the training camp! =3

Not bad for a filler episode! I'm not really big on the new opening/closing music. I definitely preferred both season one and season two's.

The class 1-A boys got swollen - especially Iida! Haha! Kaminari, Iida and Mineta (even though I overall hate him) made the episode for me. There were some nice comedic moments between Kaminari and Mineta plotting to see the girls in swim suits and it completely back firing. I also loved when Iida approached them, blocking the sun and terrifying them with his bulk. Lol!

Looking forward to next week's episode, when things finally get started and we see the summer camp begin!

Yea I also thought that was kinda stupid I mean the manga readers already knew what's gonna happen but at lest keep the others a little in suspense.

Why are you complaining as a manga reader?
It's obvious that openings are spoiling stuff, that's nothing new. The first opening of season 1 spoiled All Might vs Noumu, the first opening of season 2 spoiled Deku vs Todoroki, the second opening of season 2 spoiled Deku, Iida and Todoroki vs Stain. Plus similar to the Deku vs Todoroki spoiler, it might be hard to notice for someone who doesn't know the context.

Anime-onlies will most definitely skip the opening if they don't want to get spoiled.

The context is rather obvious and just because it happened before doesn't mean it's acceptable now and I as a manga reader don't complain because it personally affects me this time but rather because I generally don't like it if major story elements like that are being spoiled/showen in the trailer/opening

The OP will take me song time to get used to (It being not as upbeat as the previous three). I like the ED though, with sketches from each of the students of UA.
Thank God they are still using the same OSTs as the previous seasons.

Though the episode is much of a recap, I find it a good way of bringing in the new arc. Psyched for the next episode. PLUS ULTRA!!!!

At least they put the recap in a little bit of story and nice pool fun. Over all it was an ok episode. But I can't wait for the real thing to start ^^ :D

The camp arc and hideout arc are both 28 chapters so that’s 12-13 episodes right there since there’s a lot action scenes so the chapters are gonna be animated quicker , both arcs should be only 13 episodes since each episode is 2-3 chapters .

As recap episodes go it's not the worst I've ever seen. There were some fun new character interactions and set up for this arc which is nice to see.

There's nothing worse than a recap episode which is just nothing but recap so I'm glad they didn't do that again like they did between season 1 and 2.

Not 100% sold on the new OP but I'm sure it'll grow on me over time.

This episode being filler is dissapointing. I'm fine with an episode like this as an in between season OVA but as the start of a new season it's a real waste of an episode. Hopefully it's just a one off because I really like the summer camp storyline.

I thought that despite this episode being mostly filler, I found it very enjoyable. I haven't really formed a proper opinion on the new OP and ED yet. They're ok. Even though this episode just consisted of Class 1-A chilling at the pool and just a mild bit of fan-service it was enjoyable to see these characters interact with each other once again.

What I find interesting though is Kacchan's attitude towards Deku. I interpreted his interactions with Deku in this episode to be that Kacchan sees Deku as a proper rival now (after seeing what he could do at the Sports Festival and the Final Exams).

Other scenes in this episode such as the scene at the League of Villains at the start and the scene with All Might at the Police Station did give me a taste on what is to come in the next season, which has gotten me even more excited for next week's episode.

My only complaint is that the scene were Aizawa is going over everyone's quirks seemed to drag quite a bit. But apart from that, it was a very good introduction to the new season and has definitely gotten me excited about this anime again.

The recap episode was done well. It wasnt like in many anime where the characters are stupidly talking to each other about the story so far; thus the recap made sense. I dont think it was necessary tho cuz I'm sure people have already watched the previous seasons a few times.
The OP/ED are good but I personally prefer the second season's.
Also, why did you have to interrupt, Aizawa sensei?!

This is how "recaps" are supposed to be done. Instead of mere retelling of the events, you see the characters reflecting on the past in retrospective, giving new insights or solidifying their decisions made that time. Which is neat.

Opening sequence is supposed to this way. It is called "foreshadowing". You see characters, shadows, faces, without context, which you either don't know, can imagine or correctly decipher from the past and future occurrences in the series. They have properly done it, and are exemplary to most.
