I own over 80 anime boxsets and 25 manga. I like to read or watch some online first if I love it I'll buy it. But with the manga it depends. I hate when they release the series and your spending money to buy it, then they stop and you can not finish it. Like x/1999 manga.

Well never bought one only cause I can't afford them unless I get a part time job xD.
Only reason I say that is because I read really fast...but I might be forced to buy the on going ones that they stopped showing on all the scanlation sites.

I haven't been buying much for the past few weeks, but as of yesterday, I just bought SGT. Frog, volume 19. And I've been meaning to buy SGT. Frog something whether it be the manga or the anime.

I used to buy a lot of manga but then I stopped. I limited the number of series I would buy and what I would just read online.

On my bookshelf I have a completed collection of Death Note and Black Cat. I plan on buying the rest of Fullmetal Alchemist as it comes out and I'll probably be buying Case Closed for the rest of my life (because I love the series so much and I doubt the author will ever finish it :P).

If not 100, then nearing around 100 volumes of manga. I check every other month for releases. My shelf does not hold them all. I am very pro-buying for manga.

I dunno how many volymes I've got, but my guess is around 30-40 in swedish, and then around 15 in english. When I first started reading manga I bought it all in swedish, then I started reading stuff online, and realized how crappy the swedish translations were so i quit buying them.

Now I read manga online, and then if I find a good series I buy them in english. Even if the english ones is both more expensive and harder to find, I prefer reading in english since as I mentioned, the translations are much better, and the books themself are in better quality.

My sister has two anime discs and two volumes of manga, and a few anime movies I think. I don't personally have anything because I prefer to read/watch online. The only place I can buy physical manga volumes is Borders, but it's not like their collection is very extensive..

I own about 250 manga volumes. Most of the manga I read is manga that I've bought because I much prefer to read it in book form than on a monitor. Just personal preference really. I do still read a bit online but I can afford to buy it so I do.

In contrast I only own about 12 anime series on DVD. Whether I download it or buy it I still watch anime on TV so I'd rather spend the money on manga than DVDs.

As people have mentioned, it is quite expensive, so I currently have not bought manga. (Other than a light novel or 2) I am planning to eventually buy 1 or more series (for example, I will be buying Mahou Sensei Negima over time) and if they were to release more light novels, I would definately buy them.

I buy a decent amount of anime as well, my brothers and I just order it all together every couple of months. But I watch and read quite a bit for how long I've had this hobby / interests, so nearly everything I do is online.

I used to, but no more. Just don't see the point of wasting my money on some arguably stupid entertainment which I can get instantly, often with better quality, in a form requiring to physical space, and for FREE from teh webs. Same goes for animu.

- The guy well on his way of selling his entire animu and manga collection.

I am all about supporting the industry and the mangaka that put so much effort into their work, so I gladly purchase manga when it becomes available to me. I work fulltime so I have money to pay for this hobby, and yes, it is expensive, but I enjoy having physical copies to things I like.

I do read scans, and continue to do so, but have always bought what I’ve read once it’s licensed. But I do have to admit I enjoy reading a physical volume of manga, as I don’t have to be sitting forever in front of a blaring screen for hours on end. I can easily take my manga with me to the park or the beach and read while enjoying other things.

So, yes, I buy my manga. Slowly getting to the 600 volume mark.

I wish I could say I do buy manga regularly but the only manga I have is manga that was given to me because it was 'taking up space'. Ive only bought a few, like NANA. I think my issue is that I read manga for the first time online. And, I just got hooked. If I did buy my manga, I would have to go over to Japan itself. There are just too many mangas that I want to read that isnt here and never will be. And dont hate me for saying this, but when I do get manga I feel so... nerdy reading it. Hahahaha. I think it all comes down to (to me), the manga books themselfs are fairly small for me and I just like reading it on the computer screen more because the quality and the size is much better. Cant forget saving all that awesome art that is posted before the manga even starts is also a big bonus. :]]]

I used to buy volumes on a regular basis from Amazon UK. Then stopped for a pretty long while when I started to read online for most of my Manga and only bought Manga now and then. But now I'm getting back into the habit of buying.

I own just under 200 volumes last time I counted. I rarely ever buy Anime, I own about 14 series I think. I've made regretted mistakes of buying Anime, watching it and not liking it. For some examples, MAR DVD Volume 1 and Code Geass Season 1 boxset. I only buy ones that are my favourites or ones I've watched and enjoyed, or if they're on sale.

I've been collecting Manga for about 4 months now. I didn't even read it before, it's a new hobby for me. I am pretty wealthy as I am a Computer Programmer and make more money then I need so I've been putting down my spare cash on Manga and Anime.

I just find it feels much more real when you are holding a book in your hand rather then looking at it on a monitor. Also, it doesn't hurt my financially buying them so I might as well buy them.

I've only been reading Manga for 4 months and the two series I am reading are Ranma 1/2 (Bought 17 volumes so far) and 20th Century Boys(Bought 10 volumes, and since the rest aren't out in English I am buying them straight from Japan Which is a lot in shipping fees and then reading them in Japanese(Which takes awhile since I only started studying the language a few weeks ago))

I buy manga when I can. I usually start off by reading series online to try them out, see if I like them. If I come to find that I really like the series, I will go ahead and buy the manga so that I could just grab it off my bookshelf and read it whenever I want.

The problem for me is that manga's so damn expensive that I hate spending a lot. >< Except I always end up doing so. *headdesk*

To be honest I always feel really bad when I read manga online and never buy the volumes, so I tend to buy manga. I still read things online, despite myself.
At last count I had around 150 volumes in my collection. Pretty good for two years if I do say so myself.

I don't like reading scans, it's uncomfortable and tiring. I prefer printed manga (I like the feeling of holding a book in my hands) and I like collecting manga - several shelves of manga look quite impressive :3 I have around 1500 volumes.

That, and I buy more manga than anime for some reason.
Even with movies and tv series, I buy more books than dvds.

I buy the series I really like (Fullmetal Alchemist, Claymore,...), but will read online the things I don't consider worth buying but worth reading (don't get me wrong: I read online because it's convenient, else I would try to find someone who could lend me the volumes).

There's also an awful lot of manga I discovered online and now want to buy (Gantz, Ikigami, D-Gray Man, Shin Angyo Onshi, ...) but can't afford right now.

I used to buy manga before I know there's free viewing online. I dont plan on buying anymore because they can get expensive as a hobby. Just finishing an average series would cost at least $100. Free scans wont disappear because internet has no bound.

When I have the money, I buy them, but if I don't, I read it online. Personally I hate reading things on the PC, but when you are budgeting your money, you have no choice.

Just recently spend hundreds of dollars on new cloths, as well as more reference textbooks that I also read for self-study. Haven't purchase the books for the courses I'm taking this upcoming semester since most of the optional classes I want are filled in already.

I only buy the manga I really do like after reading the online scans. Most of the manga I do read online are just to pass the time.

I don't like reading online, so I buy my manga.
The online format is kind of annoying to me, and I like having a hard copy of it so I can take it places that don't have internet, like school or when I go on vacation.
It is an expensive hobby, but I buy no more than 3 at a time, unless I save up a lot of money.
I read some of it before I buy it, so I only spend my money on ones I'll actually enjoy and read more than once.
