The kids can have their fun with KiseKoi and AoButa this season, but the real men will be seated here. Because this isn’t just the romance of the season, no, no, no, this is the ROMANCE OF THE FUCKING YEAR. Quite possibly one of the most hyped shows in recent memory, not just in romance, and trust me, it’s for good reason. The premise that makes this so different you ask?

Well, it’s a basic premise sure, a tough-looking guy with a soft heart and a shy girl slowly falling in love. We’ve seen it before. But as always, what really matters is how it’s executed. And just from the first episode, you can already tell this one’s doing it differently. You can feel it starting to blossom into something even sweeter and more wholesome. And ofc, it’s fucking oomfie levels of cute.

Kaoruko blushing when she looks at our boy Rintarou was adorable. What makes it even better is that both of them are actually mature and respectful with their feelings. It’s so refreshing to see them talk things out calmly, and they’re only sixteen mind you. Meanwhile, most other 16-year-olds in romcom anime are out here acting way less put-together. I guess it goes to show how adolescence can really vary, but damn, these two are built different.

My biggest concern going into this was ofc, the visuals. I mean, this studio isn’t just putting out one or two, but three shows this season. From the PVs alone, it was pretty clear which one got sacrificed, and thankfully it wasn’t this one. Because my god… the drawings (the cakes ESP!!) and BGs here are fucking immaculate. Sure, there are quite a few still shots, and it looks a little rough around the edges in places, but overall it looks fucking amazing thankfully. Wouldn't expect less from the Akebi team.

Man, just an amazing premier all around. Everything a romance needs in a first episode is here, and then some. And the best part is that it only gets better with each episode. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again: this isn’t just anime of the season. This isn’t just romance of the season. This isn’t just romance of the year....

THIS IS FUCKING ANIME. OF. THE. YEAR.

Netflix are legitimately the worst licensor of anime on earth dude they should never touch anything. Why the fuck would you do a batch release and delay the global release for TWO MONTHS? Daily reminder it’s not just ethical to pirate from Netflix, but an obligation. Awful password sharing rules and now this.

Anyway, as for the episode itself. Perfect adaptation of chapter 1 and so well paced! Cloverworks did this chapter justice and it’s a nice introduction to our two lovebirds as well as the core theme of Kaoruhana, “don’t judge a book by its cover” in this episode alone, we see several instances of people prejudging people based on their own preconceived notions. Whether it’s the Kyoko girls looking down on Chidori boys, Chidori boys putting Kyoko girls on a pedestal, Rintaro himself making assumptions about Kaoruko and of course the goons at the end harassing Kaoruko. You never know someone until you actually sit down and talk to them.

Our wonderfully adorable female lead Kaoruko is the poster child for this. Everyone else sees Rintaro as some delinquent to be feared, she just sees him as a kind soul working at his mom’s shop. They did such a great job of showcasing her personality and the sweetheart that Rintaro really is! A lot of the scenes were basically 1:1 and have the same cozy and wholesome vibe the manga does. It’s just the beginning, but I’m very pleased with the job they’ve done so far and can’t wait to see more.

Kaoruko’s smiles in this episode are gonna get me through the week, I love her so much.

This whole situation with the Kikyo Private Academy girls acting so poorly towards the Chidori Public High School students is seriously annoying. It feels like Rintarou-kun is getting totally misjudged just because of his height and the school he's from. And it seems like he's keeping a lot to himself, even from his friends, which is a bit sad.

Then there's Waguri-san – she's just the sweetest! I love how kind and thoughtful she is. And she eats so much! It's super cute to watch her, especially when she's enjoying cake. She's definitely a character you can't help but like.

Those delinquents were absolutely infuriating, bothering Waguri-san like that. Good thing Rintarou-kun showed up right on time to rescue her. But then, whoa, he got hurt and his head started bleeding! That was a shocker.

You could see Waguri-san was almost in tears seeing him bleed, but Rintarou-kun handled it so well. He even apologized for getting her caught up in his mess because of his reputation. He's really gentle.

After that, he walked her to the station and said goodbye, but she told him she'd come back to eat cakes together next time. and the feelings she felt just before the metro arrives that's something noteworthy.

The next day, he's at school early, wondering about when she'll stop by next time. Then he looks over at the window next to him and sees someone opening the curtain at Kikyo Private Academy. And it's Waguri-san! She's a student from Kikyo! He's completely surprised, and closes his own classroom's curtains, then the ending song starts playing – what a cliffhanger! can't wait to see more of them 😆.

The Opening and Ending is so Nice and Smooth, Cloverworks X Aniplex really did this story justice.

The animation quality is so Smooth and Clean.. nothing less expected from the studio who did both Bunny girl Senpai & My dress up darling.
Three Consecutive Shows in a row 🤩.

Rintarou is really a troubled person, lol. It's just the beginning of the anime. Rintarou Tsumugi, who attends Chidori, was helping out at his family's cake shop when he met a girl, Kaoruko Wakurita, who was eating a lot of cake. Upon seeing Rintarou, Kaoruko quickly left the shop. I like how Rintarou protects Waguro; he’s pretty cool. Waguro is worried about Rintarou, but Rintarou truly wants to apologize, and injuries like that won’t cause Rintarou any pain, ahahahaha. They parted ways at the station, promising to eat cake together. Rintarou was really surprised by Waguri's identity. The first episode was truly amazing.

Holy peak, idk how clover works does this with 3 anime at a time, this will definitely become the top romance anime of the summer, of 2025, or even of all time if given enough time and a season 2. I can see this ending up like my dress up darling in popularity and an even higher score than the anime.

Cloverworks has their hands full this season for sure. I do find the way they protrayed Kaoruko to be likable, and the VA imo nailed their role in this. Wonderfully protrayed and bringing the life to her character from the manga.

Rintarou is a misunderstood character but I enjoy seeing the chemistry between him and Kaoruko so far. There's a feeling of youth and potential for lots of character growth for this show. The first episode already gives strong impressions of that especially with a school life setting, where anything can happen.

Definitely one of the must watches of this Season if you ask me.

The stuff with the school feel soo exaggerated that I don't even know what to say lol. It’s like the girls school isn’t beside some average boys school where the boys are kinda outgoing, but is built around a fucking juvenile detention center, where every guy is facing a charge which could make the news flash every fucking morning and night. Though hey, that’s what the series is about.

Pretty standard foundation but yeah, if you can make something more than good just by being simple, that’s more than appreciated. We’ve seen the themes of “finding yourself” in the world of anime many times, and yeah tbh, most of the time the stuff goes off the track and ends up being something just pretentious. Ain’t happening here. The thing with those guys trying to do their thing with Kaoruko was pretty convenient for Rintarou, but hey, okay I mean. Good start, and there’s just so much to come, so really looking forward.

Cloverworks with three shows back to back in a day, and still each one of them looks so good. How do they do that? xD

Mangaka Saka Mikami's highly acclaimed romance manga series has finally made it into the CloverWorks X Aniplex lineup this season, and the anime absolutely shines with all of the hype beind it!

Tatsuya Kitani's OP, he will NEVER miss with such great songs!

The feud between two schools: the all-boys Chidori High and the all-girls Kikyo Girls' High, it all starts from the unassuming "delinquent" of Rintaro Tsumugi with his group of friends just hanging around, until they pass some students belonging to Kikyo Girls' with quite the stern look on their faces. And Rintaro surviving with quite the family member of his own with his mother, meets the unassuming girl eating sweet pastries in his family patisserie, though his stern look sure drove her away. Of course, what is normalcy to his mother meeting Kaoruko Waguri everyday, instead, is a meeting between her and her son for the first time.

The request of her to see Rintaro again...to treat him to cake at his own store, and of course, Kaoruko would come off as being awkward and not with cakes, though this is the first time that she's felt feelings for a boy, and that he's not scary at all. However, the walk back with Kaoruko on her own and getting hammered by guys who know his true nature, though she rebuts against them that she doesn't see him that way, and Rintaro came in the nick of time to save her alright. And for much of how Rintaro's life has been shunning people for them seeing how scared they are against him, Kaoruko being the first to not shun him, it definitely gave him a promise that he's not what he seems to be.

For Rintaro to keeping thinking about Kaoruko...the shock of her being at Kikyo Girls', was something else he was not prepared for.

Reira Ushio's ED is just great, with grace.

Call me with this: Romance of the Year material!

Aaaaaaaah I’m literally screaming in real life! I’m so hyped for this anime trio! So I’ll combine my reaction for all the first episodes of these three anime:

* *Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru Season 2*
* *Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku*
* *Seishun Buta Yarou wa Santa Claus no Yume wo Minai*

Believe it or not—today is my birthday (according to the Hijri calendar)! Could I have possibly received a better gift than this?

Marin may not be from my all-time favorite anime—but a whole new season of Marin? We missed her!

As for the second anime!! My friend at university wouldn’t shut up about it! He keeps saying it’s the best, and he even says I’m exactly like the main character—we’re super alike, apparently.

And *Bunny Senpai*... ahhh, it’s one of my top 10 anime ever! I never get tired of it—it’s beautiful. I missed Sakuta! I truly love this series!

I can’t hold back—I’m going to watch all three episodes right now! I literally can’t contain my excitement, it’s about to explode!

I recently started reading the manga and shared some of the best panels.
The artwork is incredible! Come share your thoughts there 👇

What do you mean you treat him, its literally his shop, lmao, and who actually have build two schools like that next to each other ? And which one was built first is what i want to know, no i need to know it.

Now, im guessing that what Rintarou’s mom told him when they were closing the shop, about that bad habit he has, is gonna be the subject of his change as a person, and our dear Kaoruko is the catalyst of that change. I'm guessing the next week episode is going to be all from Kaoruko's perspective.

Anyway, this was pretty much what i was expecting from my most anticipated anime of this season, but this really is a shoujo alright, 110% pure unfiltered shoujo straight from the source, lol.

Holy shit this was stunning. Kaoruko was so adorable. Cloverworks sasuga. I've been so excited to watch Kaoruko eat and they delivered.

The entire episode it was just full of amazing Kaoruko visuals. Inoue Honoka's voice acting also suits her perfectly. So adorable. I hope her mother's voiced by Inoue Kikuko or else it'd be a big missed oppurtunity. Talking about seiyuus, Rintarou's mom's voiced by Yoko Hikasa. Man she's already voicing mother characters huh. Rintarou's heart is slowly gonna melt from Kaoruko's warmth. Also I sometimes forget that Rintarou
It's also hilarious how they think Rintarou's scary when the actual scary one is

I knew coming into this that this will almost undoubtedly be up there in the best of the season/year for me, and that was a beautiful pilot episode! Kaoruku-chan is just too adorbs (that ED definitely helped this cause, lol) and Rintarou's struggles being eased by her will be a heck of a watch, I'm sure. Looks like she already knows him a fair bit and more, I wonder if we'll get to more of that next week or at least by the end of this season. It'll definitely leave a bigger impression that way for me.

Animation is honestly superb, Cloverworks is pulling out the big guns and delivering the goods! Wonderful usage of colours and the contrast with Kaoruko-chan in frame and not is a message in itself. I don't have much to add really except for the fact that I'm so pleased this is finally here. I've been hearing a ton of good things and the fact that some people were saying that despite their differences, this and Ao no Hako are the top romance stories in the manga department for a bit is nothing but hype for me considering the latter was a delight for me.

Hope the bullies don't come around for a small nothing-too-significant tussle like these. It'll feel both cheap from the plot development side of things as well as gotta protect the heroine here!

I know next to nothing about this series, other than the fact that the manga is held in extremely high regard.

If it wasn't for me knowing this, I would have just written this off as your average boy-meets-girl seasonal, based on this first episode.

I'm a sucker for romance, so I'm sure I'll enjoy it regardless, but I'm very very excited to see what this story has in store for us.

Might end up buying the manga if it proves to be as good as the manga readers claim.

I didn't like the beginning of the story, it was a bit too clichéd. Haha, instead of helping right away, the guy was eavesdropping on what they were saying, and of course she said what a really nice guy he was after exchanging a few words with him. The anime looks good, but I hope the plot will become more interesting in the future.

This episode of The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity was so sweet, so sweet that I booked an ambulance midway! I almost fainted from the sheer wholesomeness. The episode started with Rintarou being treated as some outcast delinquent; no one came near him, but Kaoru took a liking to him and actually saw him for what he is. It's just like she doesn't care for the rumors or his looks; she fell for his kindness. This is a prime example of 'don't judge a book by its cover,' what people need to look into nowadays. The cake-eating scene was so cute, her cheeks were so squishy, ww, and the last scene where he closes the curtain—I almost choked on my cheesecake! A truly wholesome anime and a truly wholesome episode. Loved it. I can't wait for the next episode. I can't say anymore. I'm dying of sweetness!

So.....
Where do i even begin with....
Clover works tried really hard to cut out as much movements as possible by shifting the camera and some of the random characters that were highlighted walking for no reason looks really stiff? Wacky?
And i didn't even notice this but I was always knew that kaoruku was small but it the anime when i saw her side by side with rintaro.... It looked really funny..... And I should say i didn't lik- whatever
I love my dress up darling but I'm really salty after I've watched the first episode of both the anime
Dress up has a lot of movements and well directed cuts whereas Kaoru Hana..... I'm literally begging them to make the characters moves and give me some good cuts.....
My Kaoruko..... i didn't like her VA choice....

THE MOST ANTICIPATED ROMANCE ANIME OF THE YEAR IS FINALLY HERE!

OP by Tetsuya Kitani is perfect for this anime and ED by Ushio Reira really describes everything about Waguri. OP and ED both have very beautiful visuals, I love it. I think I like OP more than ED and this can change every week lol.

Chidori public high school and all-girls Kikyo private academy, these two schools are really two different worlds but, I'm confused why these two schools are side by side, even though all-girls Kikyo is a private academy lol.

personally I don't really like the "positive" vibe type of romance, but this might be one of my favorites. imo, this first episode I'm still not hooked on the premise of this romance story and I feel like I've watched this type of romance dozens of times, I'm just talking about the structure of this type of romance because this romance just nothing special/generic and too cliché BUT, I'm really looking forward to what this author will cook up next with this too WHOLESOME romance story.

I love the fact that all the characters introduced are very likeable especially Rintarou's mother unlike other romance anime we will very rarely see the parents of the MC/FMC or the parents of the MC/FMC are not likeable but not with this, I'm really waiting for more parent conversations with the MC/FMC in this anime. really waiting for next week's episode, and I hope to see more developments between Waguri and Rintarou. 7,5/10.

Netflix cucking the west again xD

But Clover Works is cooking this season. Giving us 3 quality romance series on the same day is unreal.

I'm especially hyped for this one after Bunny Girl Senpai losing it's touch and Dress Up Darling's suboptimal ending. Characters, mood and gorgeous visuals already captivated me. And the OP is fantastic. Right up there with Ao no Sumika or the Idaten opening. Kitani is killing it.

WHAT A DIVINE BEGINNING!!

They brought the entire essence of the manga in this first episode. I'm really looking forward to the next episodes. There's only one thing that worries me, which is the production of the anime. Well, in this first episode, it was already possible to notice some inconsistencies, but I hope that the anime continues to be great as a production!

CloverWorks had their big 3 this season air today and I was definitely most anticipating this compared to the others since the manga is genuinely great for this. And while this definitely didn't get as much love visually as My Dress Up Darling (some inconsistencies and minor issues were definitely there), it still looks good and captures the spirit of the manga quite well for the most part. Kaoruko's voice is something I need to get used to a bit, it didn't quite click for me right off the bat, but besides that, the rest of the premiere was very good. A little bit cliche in certain ways but definitely has solid foundations that only gets better and better with time. Was nice seeing a character like Rintaro have intimidating looks but being a down-to-earth person that's just having his confidence and trust shaken up due to his appearance and 'tone'. Kaoruko's quite the innocent, charming female lead too. Normally most series I would not really like a character like her but this manga is one of the exceptions that's managed to pull it off without being too bland about it, and while her voice was a bit iffy for me in the anime, she still came off well impression-wise here. The premieres this season have mostly been pretty safe to average for me, this is probably my favorite one of the lot so far. Cliche for sure, but when everyone genuinely is likable, it goes a long way.

Also, such a shame that Netflix did this a bit dirty for international viewing (the West) from looks of things.

This was such a great start to this adaption, and as a person who is reading the manga, so far this definitely lives up to it! The pacing is smooth and goes through the first chapter indepth and not rushed at all. The added scenes that aren't from the manga are a nice bonus and add additional context.

I can't wait to see how the next episode will play out! This might just be the romance anime of the season.. 5/5

The third and final anime from Clover Works.

Probably my most anticipated anime this season. Rintaro is not scary at all, I don't know what those people are talking about. Waguri likes to eat a lot which probably makes her a top 20 or 10 character. I'm already loving this anime, the visuals are so good and just everything about it is perfect. Why did Waguri treat Rintaro to his own shop? What was going through her mind during that time? Because Rintaro was such a nice guy, he decided to give Waguri the cake. Rintaro is such a nice guy, I don't know how you can hate him at all. I can see this being one of my favorite animes very, very soon.

So wow. Episode 1 is finally out and it's sort of hard to believe. Either way, I am very positive to the way the anime is going. Yes, it's a shame, a real tried and true shame that we have to wait for official episode releases for those of us who live outside of Japan... But I kind of expected it in a way. That's not to say I'm not disappointed at that fact, but it lessens the blow at least. I was planning on watching it by any means necessary as fast as possible anyway, and showing my support by watching it on Netflix when it finally releases. When that will happen is only a matter of time, and until now I haven't seen anything concrete on ''when'' episodes will be available for an international audience. It's a shame though. I hope they don't see the viewership as "Oh, this release model works so we have to do it more often." and rather sees it as "Wow, people really like this show, we should have released it to them sooner."

Okay, enough ranting about Netflix's stupidity. This episode was pure GOLD. Man, am I glad to see iconic moments from the manga finally animated into live motion pictures. THEY ARE MOVING GOD DAMN IT. THEY. ARE. MOVING. Just that fact alone put a smile on my face. There were multiple times when I was watching that I had to just smile and point at the screen and say "Oh, that's the moment when..." Having read through chapter 1 a good amount of times and volume 1 being the only volume I own, of course I knew everything that was going to happen. But seeing it in a new light and spotting the few changes they made was very nice to see.

All the characters really feel alive and the way they interact with each other and the world feels so satisfying to be able to enjoy. Big props to the sound design as well, that didn't go unnoticed. And while I'm at it, the background music too. Phenomenal! Of course, I can't go without mentioning the icing on the cake. (Or maybe I should say strawberry.) Kaoruko and Rintaro interacting made me smile every time they spoke a line to each other. You can really feel the ''wholesomeness'' of their relationship start to blossom. It should be mentioned that Kaoruko's voice didn't bother me at all. I think it fits her and her voice actress does a fantastic job at capturing her seemingly childlike persona, while pulling off the strong and positive woman she really is. What is it now, 9 hours later, and I'm still in awe. I can't express my excitement enough for how much I look forward to the next episodes. I think once we get into future plotlines, that's where the anime will truly shine. What's at the heart of this series is not judging a book by its cover, and facing uncertainty with an open mind. In broad terms, and my opinion at least.

Either way, I may not have said everything I had on my chest, but I think I got out the most important points I wanted to talk about. Here's to the future of this anime, and let's hope it all goes well in the end! Thanks for reading :)

My 11th Summer 2025 anime! I was recommended this one by both my cousin and classmate. Both have read the source material and said this is a very wholesome and heartwarming watch which I am all for 🙌🏻 definitely after this first episode, I can wholeheartedly agree 👌🏻 I definitely look forward to more of Rintaro and Kaoruko’s interactions together
