I really hate it. I hate growing up. [main topic incoming] It's so fast. I was a teenager just a few days ago and now I'm an adult. How does this work? [main topic incoming] I used to sit back and binge anime and now I can't ever do that. And, I'll need to get a job too. But, this is not my main concern. [main topic] My main concern is how I'm losing my taste. Like, the shows that I used to enjoy a few years ago, I don't find as appealing now. There are many shows that had separate place in my heart, but their newer seasons didn't appeal to me as much. It's like I'm losing a part of myself. Anime is something I wanted to enjoy forever, and seeing how less and less shows appeal to me is concerning for me as I can't control what I like. I had many friends— ok you got me. I had a few friends (2) who used to watch anime with me, and they just grew out of it. What if it happened to me too?? Is this the part where I'm supposed to let it happen?????

Now, as to why I made this fvckass post under this anime is because KaoruHana is a perfect example. If I watched it a few years ago, I would've loved it. I think. But, now I just can't enjoy this show. I want to enjoy it, but I can't help it.

Either allat or this anime is just buns and overhyped.

Or, better yet, maybe I'm just burnt out right now.

Until I see y'all folks again :D

Something similar happened to me too. I was watching anime for quite some time and grew tired of it. I couldn't watch anime for half a year because I would had to force myself to. Eventually I started to miss it and since then I enjoy it again. That's just my personal experience. It could be different for you.

honestly i dont think it has to do with growing up
i only got into anime in my late 20s and im pretty sure i wouldnt enjoy some of my first anime as much as i did back then
taste and preferences change all the time, thats completely normal even as an adult and it also isnt necessarily a bad thing, dont worry too much about it
watch what you enjoy and drop what you dont enjoy

Since I found this text full of your feelings and expressions, I decided to give an appropriate response.

You should look at things from a different perspective, because everyone has their own life, circumstances, and problems to solve. I'll give you my example; whether you believe it or not is up to you. I'm also an adult and have been watching anime since childhood. I started reading manga in my teens and it's been many years since, but I've never felt the same way as you. As I said, everyone has their own life and circumstances. Fortunately, I currently don't need to work (in fact, I've practically never worked). I like variety, so the more the better. Every year there are new anime/manga to enjoy, so I always have something to watch. At most, I've even started to dislike some famous works like Bleach, Naruto, Dragon Ball, and others.

Even so, it doesn't mean that today I hate something that I used to be a fan of, I simply replace it with others that I like more, because in life nothing is eternal and inevitably our tastes will change as we get older, but I also don't like growing up, I would love it if I could be a child forever, after all, what is it like to be an adult? Don't be fooled by these ideas that can only be found in human society. I've also thought about this a lot, mainly because I consider myself a nihilist and stoic person and see the world in a more "free" way (because I also follow Taoism). Of course, we all have our responsibilities, but whether you're a child, teenager, adult, or elderly, none of that matters because in the end, we are all living beings. I like to call humans:

"Mother Nature's little cubs" or "Adults who cannot escape their own immature nature."

Just like any other animal on earth, "we will all live and one day die in the same way," regardless of our status in society. The famous phrase: "Humans are social animals" comes precisely from the fact that, in order to live, we need to study and explore ourselves and the world around us, so that we can pass on all this knowledge accumulated over eons and generations only to be used by the "next adults." Thus shaping the entire reality of human society to transform it into its best version, or at least that's how it should be.

In reality, what we have are mere offspring of Mother Nature, simply yearning to feel more, trapped in their own material desires, releasing their endorphins for short-lived pleasure, and striving for something that will one day cease to exist. At the end of the day, this will be their temporary happiness, marked by the passing of the ages and disseminated throughout history.

Everything will one day come to an end, and in more than a billion years, I'm certain that humanity will no longer be the dominant animal on this planet, and that it will also become uninhabited by living beings, just like thousands of other planets throughout the universe.

So, since I have enough money to buy everything I need for the rest of my life, I've already decided that I'll continue watching anime, reading manga, and buying related items solely for my own pleasure as long as I live and am healthy. I'd love for the world to be egalitarian and for everyone to be able to live that way, however they wish, but unfortunately, that's not our reality.

Regarding Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku, I'm really enjoying the anime and even wrote a short review recommending it, I stopped reading the manga around chapter 80, the animation is beautiful, and I like the characters, of course, there are convenient plot elements that only serve to generate all the drama we see in every episode, but it's far from being one of those weak anime like the isekai/fantasy ones from this same season, I understand some of your frustrations, unfortunately, in life, everything is destined to changes, and all we can do is adapt and move forward, always seeking our own happiness.

I get what you’re saying, I used to love anime so much when I was younger. There are shows I watched back then that I honestly can’t imagine sitting through now :). Time really changes a lot.
I even had a phase where I stopped watching completely and thought that was it, no going back. But here I am again, watching and enjoying it. Not the same as before, but still fun right now.
And back to the [main topic] you might wanna try reading the manga. Personally, I liked it more. The anime just feels way too slow for me.

Me too man. Many of my friends don’t enjoy and watch anime anymore. Even the one who introduced me to anime didn’t watch it anymore. All that left is me and one of my other friend. Who knows what will happen to us. I don’t want to stop watching anime man. This is my comfort zone

Taste changes as you grow older. It happens for everyone.

I enjoyed battle-shounen such as D Gray Man, Katekyo Hitman Reborn when I was 10-15 years old, nowadays, I fell asleep watching Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, Fire Force, etc.

Nowadays, I barely watched anime unless it is sci-fi.
I tend to spend more time reading light novels nowadays, because they go more in depth into characters as compared to anime and manga~

This is happening to me too, I used to watch so much anime (like 8 episodes a day) especially during online school. I’d watch 6-7 anime’s per season cuz I love all of em, and I remember going full all nighters just to watch more.

Now? I barely manage to watch 3 anime’s per season, outside of seasonal anime, I haven’t been able to binge a new anime in months, I loved the last anime I binged (jellyfish can’t swim in the night) but even after enjoying it, I still couldn’t bring myself to continue watching any more shows

This anime as well, I love Kaoruhana. It’s such a refreshing and peaceful show for me, yet I still can’t find it in me to watch anything rather than the occasional seasonal anime or two, last season I only had one seasonal anime and I didn’t watch anything else… growing up sucks man.

Although this has happened to me before, I usually remedy it by rewatching some of my past favorites, so maybe that’ll help

Maybe watch something different? like another genre. I don't know, I've been watching anime for over 20 years. I just know what I don't like and watch anything slightly interesting. Sometimes it's just meh. Sometimes it's absolutely awesome. I always recommend Odd Taxi for this very reason: just watch it without thinking anything beforehand. I thought I didn't like mechas but then watched Iron blood orphans, thought I didn't like dance anime until I watched ballroom e youkoso and dance dance danseur. Even as a kid, I thought I didn't like spokkon til I watched hajime no ippo. Even my all-time nemesis, romcom anime which I despise most of the time, I have one of my favorites there: Ouran Host Club. Now I still have a lot of anime to watch. Like I came here to this forum today to watch this series but I can't find where to watch it lol

The key here in my opinion is to watch anime in short bursts but consistently. You don't have to overdo by binging lot of episodes and lot of anime but rather watch seasonal anime weekly and binge only if you have been planning to watch an anime since a long time.

Doing this eases my burnout of anime and also helps in retaining interest. Also, growing out of binging is quite natural as we grow up since other responsibilities heavily increase. So I am not surprised by that tbh. I think you shouldn't be either.

Me! 🙋‍♂️

I'm adult too, but never have experience of having a girlfriend. Also, I watched anime when I was a kid until high school (in TV and some DVDs).

Then I didn't watch anime on college, but I dropped out from college. And thanks to the Covid 19 Pandemic, I started watching anime FOR REAL (since 2021).

And now, I enjoy watching them, as well as reading mangas and novels, especially drama, romance, harem and even ecchi.

as many pointed out it could be burnout. but imo it's just overexposure (different concept). like you said a couple of years ago this show would be right up your ally that means that you've prob watched a lot of shows in a simmilar vain to it. there's definately differences between each stories but a lot of them go along the same pathlines (by that i mean they follow the same formula even if the events are different). real simple example are the known standard episodes for romance anime like beach trip episodes and the confession ones for example. same applies to other shows like action shows you always have the pure training arcs, the magic system explenation episodes many have an internal traitor arc. all these stories in the same genres have the same staples even if they happen for different reasons and at different times in the story they all happen. that just resaults in all of them kinda blending together not because the stories are simmilar cuz they are far from it but because the cores of the stories are the same cuz that's simply those that are part of the common human experiance. anime just like any other media is an escape from reality (good or bad) and when that stops being the case cuz you consume too much of it that that escape becomes a PART of your reality it starts lacking that novelty that attracted you and made you enjoy in the first place. Entertainment in it's very essence is just that escape from fermiliarity and when what was once novel becomes fermiliar it starts losing it's charm.
the point is that keeping things differentiating is the way to stay mentaly stimulated which allows you to focus in other areas.
changing the media in which you consume them will change that monotony because of the different ways that you consume them. there's plenty of ways from games live action story shows, game shows, cartoons, anime, manga, books (including LN which many anime nowadays are also based off of) and many more. switching them up just allows the novelty to stay because there's so many different ways to it.
there's also the posibility of trying to do things outside the PC (i know shocker but it genuinely works) it doesn't have to be sports (though those do actualy help) it could be other things like studing new things that are in your interests and aren't part of your schooling or work, getting into working on personal projects or into other hobbies. hell even something as weird as knitting could be it.
the main point is to limit your intake so that the novelty doesn't become everyday and thus everyday has something spontenious new to keep you going and thus interested.
