They're finally choosing the princess but holy shit, the lead up to this point has been nothing but drama, bloodshed, and uneasiness. Even the public isn't safe against giant crows. More dark history and past revealed too. It feels like this anime is revealing more and more of its true colors. |

It’s been so long since any work of fiction had a twist that I genuinely didn’t see coming. This Asebi twist is INSANE. Masterful writing man I never in a million years would’ve thought she was like this. They set her up as the quintessential victim, only to reveal her as a wolf in sheep’s clothing pulling all the strings in the ritual. Best episode of the series by far. The Kasuke stuff was only the tip of the iceberg, I never would have thought Asebi was manipulating even the Prince’s own sister?? Fujinami being in love with her and willing to do whatever she asked, even kicking out and inadvertently killing Samomo wtf???? Takimoto covering it up I can understand, ladies in waiting are loyal to a fault as the prince said.. “The princess misunderstood me” nah this bitch is pure evil 😭 like the scary sort of pure evil. That scene of the dark raven coming out the ground next to Asebi was terrifying. She just exudes a very uncomfortable aura that I never noticed until today. Who would’ve thought that out of everyone there it would be Hamayu that ended up winning the prince’s hand in marriage lmao. The person literally sent there to kill him. Poetic in a sense, but given her neutrality from the four houses and the prince’s desire for reform it is logical. That “I do not find you particularly special and I do not love you either. That won’t change if you marry me” is the most insane proposal ever though 😂 that punch was well deserved. Hamayu is also a good choice because she doesn’t worship the prince or like treat him formally, they’re old friends and she isn’t afraid to say whatever is on her mind to him. Gonna miss my boy Yukiya :/ was hoping he’d stay around, but guess he’s got unfinished business in Taruhi.. hope we see him again some day… but the set up for this next arc looks wild. The intercutting shots of girlie getting her head eaten off while the prince and yukiya say their goodbyes was haunting. And a new waifu showing up?? Two weeks off due to the recap and new season starting, but I can’t wait! |

Asebi was way more cunning and manipulative than I gave her credit for. Even when caught in the spider’s web she continued to weave the lies most convenient for her survival. I can’t believe how she managed to get Fujinami in on it and spun that to her advantage too. At first I thought it was just the common naive love interest trope, the author really played that to their advantage- the writing is incredible!! Something felt off towards the middle, but because her innocence was consistent I actually started doubting my doubts about her. The timing is impeccable. This story deserves SO much more attention! Hamayu doesn’t sound like a bad choice for the Prince- I really like the relationship they have now. |

When it comes to Asebi and the servant of the Eastern House, Kasuke, the trouble does not end with the mere letter, and thus, revealing the former's true colours with Princess Fujinami. Plus, the identical letters that Wakamiya sent out to all Houses, to only receive Asebi's reply in return, the latter is Asebi's co-conspirator, linking the comb and Samomo's unintended death. Still, this was a death-defying drama of the extreme kind, to which the victor would be Hamayu herself, disguised as Sumi, goading Masuho towards Wakamiya as his only source of protection, and wanting to set the record straight within the Cherry Blossom Palace for a neutral party within the Four Houses. Clearly, the higher-ups are deeply shaken with the overwriting of the power struggle, as Yukiya surmises his yearly tenure with Wakamiya and going back to Taruhi, for good this time. Sadly, more events are about to come on the loose, and this resolves the first arc of the series. It's the perfect engagement if the show is considered a 13-episode series. |

LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO. Hamayu, best girl, back and stay winnin. Princess Fujinami is a dumbass and got what she deserved. And Asebi, holy cow. Dont play with this woman. The drama has been the best this season. And now with this arc done, curious what is waiting in the next one. |

LONG LIVE THE NEW COUPLE! :D Hamayu is the perfect option, and even though I'm a girl she makes my heart flutter, she has that handsome charm to her and the best thing is that she is down to earth. That Asebi plottwist was really a jumpscare, she has that same curse her mother was said to have. I hope we get to see Yukiya soon again, he is my favorite character so far. |

Quite the episode and follow up from last week, good to seeing Hamayu back and even winning the hand in marriage there. Asebi's twisted nature was a tad forced when hearing the way she spoke about everything, a little more subtlety would have been nice for that specific moment but the show still does a fairly decent job in exposing who she is underneath the surface to the point that even Princess Fujinami got played like a fiddle there, the Prince's sister out of all people. Minor complaints aside, I'll give the series a pass since they did do a good job in teasing that something was deceiving about the nice girl act Asebi was putting on but having me believe that she also could just be dainty, innocent and annoying without anything underneath. Curious to see what's next with only 7 episodes to go with the new arc as Yukiya departs, a new woman showing up at the end there on the cart and some gruesome cuts with another woman getting got badly a monster there. Hopefully this arc can have the quality of the series to stay similar or improve from what this has delivered instead of falling off. |

Bro that twist was crazy. But I'm sooooooo glad Hamayu is back. LFG. I always thought that was Sumio from that flashback but it was actually Hamayu. They have known each other for a long time. Also sad to see Yukiya leaving. |

The anime's storyboard writer and director have beatifully handled and combined the first two volumes of Chisato Abe's novel series! The animation in the ending at the end of the first arc is just breathtaking. After the recap ep., there will be gory events in Yamauchi (much like those in Shingeki no Kyojin). This, and a mysterious drug traffic linked to it, will demand an investigation by wakamiya. And he will need Yukia at his side, because everything started in the North, not far from Taruhi... |

It looks like his queen is a Queen. Sumi was a boy. So, Hamayu was cross dressing as an assassin and now is stuck as a female? Did he dress as a woman anyway? Was he hiding? Or was Sumi just a tomboy? I'm really curious if all the heirs will be from concubines (or prostitutes cuz let's face it the Prince has his preferences). I was truly hoping to see Asebi's parents hearing what happened and what she did to her sister. I want her disowned. |

@dragynfaerie Asebi has only her adoptive father Lord Haruhito (she is a daughter of his concubine Ukigumo from another man). And Haruhito is as guilty as she is, because he raised Asebi that way... She will disappear from the story and won't even be mentioned further. "Sumi" is Hamayuu's name given at birth, "Sumiko", only shortened when she was crosdressing as a boy, "crawling in the dirt" in exile after her parents were executed. |

Single best episode of Spring 2024 for me. I had goosebumps. I was expecting Asebi to be revealed either as a snake or an idiot, but I wasn't thinking at all about Fujinami's role in all of this. What a tragedy. Or maybe it's a comedy... Also, cutting between a random person being eaten alive and the bittersweet farewell between the Prince and Yukiya was a really interesting choice. It's as if I just want to enjoy a wholesome moment, but the show wouldn't let me do that. You just want to be a good person and do the right thing, but there's always something horrible lurking in the shadows, ready to rip you apart or drag you into hell. |

The poor prince has to watch his back at all times, someone is always out to get him or something from him even his potential consorts 😭. Looks like Asebi's manipulative tactics didn't work however as she didn't end up becoming the prince's consort. Her innocent act was too much though lmao. I am glad Hamayu returned she is one of my favorite characters in this series, when she punched him I busted out laughing. Also why is Yukiya leaving, I thought he was supposed to stay and be the princes retainer or something...is it just because he doesn't want to see the prince get killed? |

Fujinami had romantic feelings for Asebi, or was she just obsessed with having a sister? It was a surprise to see Hamayu pretending to be one of the Western House's servants. I thought the Prince had feelings for Hamayu, but his proposal indicated otherwise. Wonder if those proposal lines were standard lines he prepared to ensure his consort married him in knowingly and willingly of the risks. Who's the new woman featured at the end? |

When the one who has the most beautiful and innocent face was actually the most rotten of them all lol. I got goosebumps on it, really. Must admit though that considering the true nature of a "raven" which is greedy, a scavenger, and pretentious, I guess Asebi was the most raven of them all, thus Yukiya's sight of a black crow/raven in Asebi's persona. Makes my skin crawl (as I super hate traitors). Well at least Hamayu was chosen to be his first wife, and he's also Wakamiya's childhood friend/partner-in-crime so I'm not complaining but I wonder if she and Sumio were like brothers or something since Waka calls her "Sumi" after all...? Anyways there were more nasty things going on so this story feels like starting all over again, along with the stress, and I'm here for it 😂🖤 |

@Moron I think it's likely romantic, since there wouldn't be a need for Nazukihiko to state that their "special feelings" if it was as simple as her wanting Asebi as her sister. I don't think Fujinami would have gone that far for Asebi otherwise. Also, his proposal to Hamayuu is the same one as the one he gave to Masuho. I think they're his standard lines for any woman who fits the traits of his ideal for the purpose of politics. |

@KisMaczka Oh, so Asebi is gone from the story now? A bit sad because I liked her twisted nature. Yet also makes sense after her stunt was revealed that she will either get banished or even killed for what she did. Even if she feigns ignorance. |

So, I was right and Hamayuu really is Golden Crow's real love interest? I'm not against her, she's a good match for him. But it's striking that she got the least screen time of the brides, while the apparent lead turned out to be an unreliable narrator. Also, the next arc will be cannibal crows gone crazy? @KisMaczka Wait, Asebi won't play a role in the plot anymore after we were shown that she's literally Littlefinger in a dress? @BlueMoonTornado Special feelings can also denote passionate friendship, especially if they allude to the famous plot of friendship between two lonely women from the The Tale of the Heike. Which, along with Genji, serves as the inspiration for most fiction about this period. Not to mention that the motif of a girl possessed by onee-sama making her her brother's wife is quite a popular motif in Japanese fiction (because a brother's wife is considered a sister to his siblings). You may also notice how they mirror Big Brother/Big Sister during her meltdown. But I haven't read the original novel, maybe it explains it in more detail. UPD. Japanese Wikipedia actually says it's platonic, but for some reason it says she's already in love with her brother, lmao. |

@RobertBobert In the novel Fujinami asked Nazukihiko after her confession if her dear brother will still love her as she loves him... No, no more Asebi or even Shiratama in the story. Vols.1+2 of the novels are ended. They were dealing mostly with yatagarasu aristocracy and court, teĺling the same story from women's (vol.1) and men's (vol. 2) points of view. Vol.3 is about commoners and lowlife people in yatagarasu land, depicted through investigation of gory killings and drug traffic connected to them. Vol.4 is more about yatagarasu army and military training, also continuing commoners/aristocrats relations theme. Vols.5-6 are also one and same story told from human and yatagarasu points of view and dealing with yatagarasu people and True Golden Raven relations with their god Yamagami and with invasion of their land by enemies. |

@RobertBobert Asebi knew Fujinami (her character and temper) all too well since their childhood, and she is older than the princess. She made Fujinami to do the dirty work for the sake of her "beloved elder sister". |

Manipulating Fujinami was central to her plan, and Asebi was mostly successful. Fujinami was the one that swiped the letters of every candidate except for Asebi's, so that only Asebi would get to converse with the Prince. It seems Asebi did not even have to ask Fujinami to do that. Even with Samomo, all Asebi had to do was to suggest that Samomo had to be "dealt with," and Fujinami "took care of it" (even if half-accidentally). Asebi also "invited" her manservant Kasuke to the palace. She used Samomo to deliver her letter to Kasuke in secret and come back with his reply. Unfortunately for Asebi, Samomo ended up reading both Asebi's letter and Kasuke's letter, because Kasuke couldn't read or write. Worse, the Prince managed to get ahold of Asebi's letter later. Asebi meant to have Kasuke end up in Masuho's bedroom and (likely) assault Masuho, similar to what she did to her own sister. This plan failed, but if it had succeeded, Asebi would have been the only viable candidate; Hamayu ran off, Shiratama was already mentally unstable, and Masuho would have been disgraced and forced to withdraw. Still, Asebi had her other weapons at her disposal, and she still had a good chance with the Prince. She probably would've only needed to beat Masuho; but on paper she was an almost-victim of an attack, and she never wrote to the Prince. And no one suspected anything. Fujinami (and the royal guard) was busy covering up her own participation in them, both Samomo and Kasuke were dead, and Asebi has not been linked to any of these unsavory events. But Asebi likely did not predict the Prince to do the homework, by visiting her sister, investigating the murders, tracking down her letter to Kasuke, and exposing Fujinami. Even after the Prince caught on to her, there was no definitive proof, so in a last ditch effort Asebi again claimed ignorance. But all the Prince had to do was to say "no." 1. Play the clueless, innocent girl
2. Manipulate the Prince's sister
3. Sabotage the other candidates, specifically Masuho
4. Play up her devotion to the Prince

It's a very refreshing evil character revealed. I love that Asebi doesn't laugh maniacally and shout out her entire plan like 99% of the story does. Sis just truly believe her simping justified all her actions. Now that's cold-blooded. |

The new ED visuals really took me back to Heian Era Who else are the red flags of the Spring 2024 season besides Asebi? |

What an intriguing episode, didn't expect the girl that have the least chance will win the Rite of ascension, i say Hamayu as she the best woman before but it didn't cross my mind as Asebi or Masuhoi have better chances. I like Asebi more as she become more complicated character and Masuho is clearly the warrior princess here. The real winner gonna be Shiratama, to reunite with her lost love. It unfortunate that Prince don't like Yandere type of girl, when he say he loath her i can genuinely feel Asebi heartbreak. Can see how each girl are faithful to their houses now. Next is new arc where pandemic? is happening in the village. I say it again that this anime is aesthetically pleasing and have unique artstyle, the ending is simply gorgeous. |

@jumbosan It's not "I like" and "I don't like" matter for the prince. He explained his political reasons for choosing a commoner girl unrelated to any of the Four Houses in his conversation with Hamayu (also because Hamayu is the most unselfish among the brides, she tried help the prince and to protect him, even to get him together with Masuho in order to ensure powerful Western allies for him). And the prince really loves Hamayu, it can be seen in the way he talks to her and in their interaction as a whole. But a True Golden Raven is not allowed to love or to have friends in the way any other yatagarasu or humans do (though he tries his best the way he can). He is a reincarnation of a kami ancestor of yatagarasu people and it is one of his taboos. |

Very happy with the big reveal. That Asebi was the one pulling the strings was built up to well. I really liked how both she and Fujinami were revealed through their words and actions to not see hill ravens as their equals and in Asebi's case how she didn't even see them as people. Revealing them as part of the overall problem in their society was a good way to tie court plot in with the Prince's plot. |

When they showed the visual with Asebi and a raven behind her in a menacing way I saw it as a way to simbolize she was lady raven this time. Also liked how it was hinted before that Asebi might have been using the princess, in the episode where she requested her to lend her Samomo the princess was reluctant and she inmediatly played the victim "oh, ok, nevermind then, guess it was too much, now I'll pretend I'm trying to not show how I'm hurt you denied something as simple as that". I remember seeing that scene and thinking that was a little manipulative of her. I also found suspicious how the man who was killed in the palace was in the room of the other lady if he was supossed to be the gardener but I had forgotten about the injured crow they found since they never mentioned it again. |

@BlueMoonTornado She will even cross-dress and play the prince's role at the palace, handling state affairs while Nazukihiko is away investigating.
@KisMaczka I wish I could downvote you........ |

Damn that's just messed up, Asebi's just messed up and she doesn't even think she's doing anything bad? Yabai yabai. Fujinuma absolutely destroyed. I was right, Hamayu won after all. Super happy. She even turned out to be his childhood sweetheart. Amidst all the dark shit I was glad to have this. So sweet man. Love Hamayu, that punch. New arc begins with new crazy shit delving more into the supernatural this time. What even was that thing. |
