I don't get why they did such a speed-run this time, they literally "adapted" half of volume 11 in one episode. It was just a montage of a few fight scenes and traveling. They cut out so much worldbuilding as well as character interactions between Rudeus, Elinalise and a group of merchants they met, which gave a lot of information about the Begaritt continent. Instead of making this half of the season 13 episodes so that they can give volume 12 the time it needs without cutting half a volume, they resort to rushing instead. It's like they did back in Volume 5 where they cut out an important character who returns much later on.

Well for having 2 weeks to make that episode the art of everyone and their facer is much worse.. but the fight scene with Gryphons was nice. Good that they made this teleportation because it would take few more episodes to reach them ;d I wonder if they skipped anything important on journey part? Good that they didn't skip the ero things because that was funny ;] Also about the horses.. I really dislike horses being so unnatural big.. they should just make 3 same size..

Wonder why so many people hated this episode? It was maybe the best episode from this lame season...

I hate it when anime/manga that I enjoyed ends, especially when there could be much longer plot and when I love main heroine :P

I wish I had magic glasses that let me see real world in anime colors ;)

Nanahoshi was a huge help in this episode. Thanks to her showing Rudeus the locations of the teleportation circles, the trip throughout Bergaritt can be shortened by a lot. If things go according to plan, he might be able to make it back to Sylphie before she gives birth.

I also think Cliff deserves respect for telling Elinalise his wish to marry her and to find a place for the pair to live together once she and Rudeus returns, which made for a heartwarming farewell scene between the two. =)

The journey through the Bergaritt desert was a tough one for our pair. The Arabian nights inspired soundtrack was a beautiful match as our duo worked their way day by day. Some of the action scenes was pretty good, which does have me looking forward to seeing how the rest of this arc will be animated.

For me, I enjoyed the university arc a lot, but I do welcome the return of the classic style of Mushoku Tensei with the travelling. Great episode overall.

its finally back after what felt like forever
another amazing episode
feels like the old mushoku tensei with the adventuring part

Some LN Extra Details (Volume 11 Chapter 8-12/14?)
- For the first time, Rudy is going to disregard Hitogami's advice
- Elinalise trying to convince Rudy that Geese might be jumped to conclusions and sent the letter early. He might also sent the letter because of Paul's pride because of his previous letter.
- Rudy says goodbye to Linia and Pursena and asked to keep being friends and keep in contact
- Nanahoshi told Rudy of the teleportation circles that she and Orsted used to travel throughout the world. With that, it would only took around 94 days round trip instead of 2 years
- The quicker travel method convinced Elinalise to follow when she started to change her mind because of not wanting to leave Cliff
- Naming a baby before leaving for a journey is a taboo in this world, based on Perugius's story of his companion, Feroze Star the Emperor-tier Fire mage facing the exact thing when naming and leaving hic child to battle Demon King Ryner Kaizel.
- Rudy borrowed `An Exploratory Account of the Teleportation Labyrinth`, The Begaritt Continent` and the Fighting-God Tongue` from the library as well as reference incase he has communication issues there
- It took 5 days to reach the nearby teleportation circle in the forest.
- They fought green boar before reaching the teleportation cirle and Elinalise shows how
- The incantation to remove the barrier seems to refer to Holy Dragon Emperor Shirad, which is one of the Five Dragon Generals from the old stories.
- Rudeus freeze a water bottle and cool down the air around them to keep up with the temperature
- They also encountered other monsters such as Treant, Sandworm, an army of Phalanx Ants, Giant Bat, Raptors and Garudas in their days in the desert,
- Rudeus carrying spices reminds Elinalise of Geese doing the same, Rudeus thinks that was common with rogue adventurers and he often seems them carrying spices during his adventuring with Soldat's party.

Differences from LN
- Simplified Rudy's farewell with Linia and Pursena
- Elinalise is a bit more dramatic and and keeps changing her mind between going to Begaritt or staying with Cliff after his proposal
- Cliff's marriage proposal was made during his talk with Rudy and Elinalise that was skipped in the anime
- The farewell with Rudy's friends is a bit weird in LN, the farewell that Rudy did with most of the people is before he found out about the teleportation circle, so they thought they won't be around for two years at least and Linia and Pursena may already graduated by then.
@Homura24 adding onto this with stuff that that was in the LN but not in the anime (specifically regarding Elinalise)

I think there's been some confusion.
Cliff is the son of the pope of Milis.

He's in no way involved with Ariel's plot.

I was missing Mushoku Tensei last week, but the time went by fast and it’s already time for more. And I gotta give it to the MVP Nanahoshi, she cut the trip down big time with her info on teleportation circles, and here I thought Rudeus was definitely missing the birth of his kid, also if I’m not mistaken I think this might be the first time we’ve seen Nanahoshi without her trademarked and patented blue cloak, I like the look. I will say tho, I’m a bit worried about the fact there was a time lag between when Elinalise went back and forth, yeah it wasn’t much of a lag but what if it’s different next time or something, I just feel like the convenience of this teleportation is too convenient lol, I hope I’m wrong tho.

And the desert journey was cool, it was a bit fast but I figured it would be, gotta get to the labyrinth soon because that’s the real stuff, but I did enjoy what we got of it. There were some cool looking fight scenes in there like the gryphons and succubus, also the giant enemy crab lol, but I’d say the most dangerous of all the encounters was the succubus, it nearly caused Rudeus to abandon his faithfulness to get some coochie but at least they laughed it off afterward. I also liked the ost quite a bit during these scenes, very deserty, just how I like my desert music lol.

Damn, they didn't animate naked Elinalise. Figured they wouldn't, but was kinda hoping they'd sneak it in somehow. All in all, good episode.

@Embient yeah, he keeps spares in the ruins.

rip a real one eh? guessing that was in the manga?
@DedPanda dunno about the manga but in the light novel, when Rudy went to Cliff's lab to tell Elinalise about the teleportation circle, he finds her sitting in a chair, with nothing but a blanket covering her naughty bits. Cliff is sitting on another chair, Ashita no Joe style, completely conked out from the fucking. Don't remember her putting anything on for the rest of the scene.

@Mirality Cliff isn't one of the princes' main guards, Luke is. Cliff is the grandson of the Pope of Millis, and we saw from the Goblin Slayer OVA with Eris and Cliff that while he is definitely capable with magic, he is actually not great as an adventurer necessarily and it showed in his inexperience compared to how Eris operated and the leagues in difference she had of an experience with Rudeus than Cliff, even though Cliff showed himself to be 'powerful'. The anime showed him and Elinalise deciding to adventure after Rudeus and her reunited with Soldat and Rudeus declined, but the books elaborated more of how poor he was and almost out of his league for a situation like that in reality to stop just 'playing adventurer' as he used to do.

And even then, Begaritt Continent is much more dangerous of a location than that episode with him and Eris, and Cliff doesn't have the experience to be a part of a very serious situation like this compared to two strong, experienced adventurers who offer more than just pure strength to survive for a long journey. Cliff would be seen as a liability through the dangers there and that could be even worse in the labyrinth so him staying back makes sense, even if it sucks for him and Elinalise.

The journey to Rapan begins, and it's sure to be a long and winding road to save Rudeus' family...

This was a transition episode as we inch closer to the much anticipated Labyrinth arc that is coming, but I think it was handled relatively well, even if it was a fast-paced episode, from farewells to Sylphie, Norn, Aisha, Nanahoshi, and everyone else, to starting the journey with Elinalise towards Begaritt and Rapan. Rudeus' plans make it seem like this will be easy, but knowing how this series go, it'll be far from that. I don't know if getting people's hopes up that Rudeus would return before Sylphie gave birth was a good idea, but we'll see what happens. I'm bracing for the worst, but hoping for the best, basically. As for the journey, it feels like it's been a while since some actual travelling happened in this series, so it's a very welcome thing. Loved the Arabian based music throughout.

great ep, good adaptation.

Skipped a lot of the traveling and the plot with the merchant caravan, but completely understandable. As it's not contributing to the story but only on further worldbuilding and cultural understanding.

I'm happy they're taking their time and 5 more episodes to cover the labyrinth arc.

Just sad they missed Elinalise's nanahoshi joke.
@R0r5ch4ch See, I'm not sure if they've reached Rapan yet. That cliff is supposed to be just before they meet the merchant for the first time before making it to Bazaar. The confusion is coming from them including scenes that happened during Bazaar in the montage to Bazaar.

Very good episode that had a LOT to cover to get to the Labyrinth portion with enough episodes for that. The pacing despite covering a ton, still was executed better than I would have expected. The Arabian-feel to its music was awesome and was the definite highlight of the episode, some nice little glimpses of world building of Begaritt with the land there, the monsters that Rudeus and Elinalise encountered with that moment with the succubus too that had Rudeus tempted so quickly after promising Sylphie he will be back and nothing will happen lol. Even got Rudeus at the market a bit and showing the food there a little which is good. Considering so much was there, they did an effective enough job in presenting the journey with some good scenes with world building, Rudeus and Elinalise bonding and having weird conflicts like the succubus stuff (which actually felt terrifying here with the succubus design once exposed) and even learning little glimpses of Elinalise's relationships with Paul and Zenith in the past. Overall as a transition episode, it was fun and you can feel that weight of what is to come to be big after this.

Also liked the first half a lot too and while a bit more about Elinalise and Cliff could have been covered, still glad Cliff supported her with the magical implement he made (that at least helped her for some time at least before it was ineffective) and promised to marry her after. Also great seeing Nanahoshi help Rudeus out like that, partly due to her own research and wanting to get home sooner rather than wait for two years but it is clear that Rudeus is an important friend to her as well and was willing to take the risk with revealing about the teleportation circles at the expense of Orsted's warning to not let such taboo and major stuff like this be exposed to others. The little kiss with Norn and Aisha gushing at their brother and his wife like that was cute not going to lie, made a touching separation a bit more uplifting in a weird way.

I'm so excited for these remaining 5 episodes since those should cover my favorite volume in this whole series. Glad this returned fairly well after a week off and considering my expectations for this episode to be lowest in this cour considering the sacrifices made, it was still fun, detailed enough and explored more than I thought in both sides. It is so much better than the manga just deciding to skip the journey altogether to get to Rapan recently.
@animejas totally agree. good to see Rudeus and Elinalise arrived at Rapan to start the rescue quest sooner than later.

@Ronninn
1. raw budget always cut after first season, because first seasons boost sales of source materials the most. Some studios are investors for anime so earn money from sources sales (like Mappa with Chainsawman), so they can put studio money it production budget and make it look amazing, but that's a rare case

2. A lot of people who works on first season as well as onimai got hunted by gacha-anime company doing Umamusume essentially doubling artists salaries. Onimai was essentially cry-for-help. They tried do quick buck doing ecchi staff sponsored by studio to earn budget for second season of Mushoku. But it flopped.
It's also the reason why first part of second season looked strange in terms of character design. They literally had no character design visual director so they had to use LN illustrations as a reference

I already got myself through 5 stages of anger and grief, and now I just enjoy the show for what it is, disregarding animation of the first season

Considering that's what he literally has done before, yes...? Its at least a recognition of some of her boundaries once he remembered that Cliff was in a relationship with her, though some of it was due to the succubus pheromone too so he wasn't in the right mindset either.
