Toto definitely needs to improve himself more. He's just vastly inferior compared to Ron as a partner. Ron still has that awkward habit of him just laying on the floor while talking. Pretty sure this will be a recurring gag.

When Ron get serious though, he really does take care of business. A woman named Amamiya also got involved that turned the case more dramatic. The mix tone of humor and serious nature actually made the episode entertaining imo. And I do give some credit to Toto for diving into the water to save a woman this episode.

@Stark700 I feel as if it's intentional for Toto to pale greatly in comparison to Ron's intelligence, he's not supposed to be on par with his skills at all and if anything that heightens Ron's abilities even further. He does make for a fun relief character however and if the anime continues to adapt the manga, I am hopeful there's opportunity for more development of Toto's police/detective abilities to be displayed in the anime. Unsure if they'll get up to it to the point where it's obvious in S1 though, hoping S2/cour 2 allows room for growth

Once again, Isshiki goes to see Ron, but not for a new case. Being one of the prestigious detectives that sadly his past BLUE academy will not issue him a license to do the sleuthing, Ishhiki can act as his medium, easy. The problem is, his boss of Amamiya only delegates him to office work, and the case of the piggy bank has Ron engaged once again. But an impregnable piggy bank, it looks as if the case had a dead end in and of itself. But all Ron needs to hear is one sound that came from the piggy bank, and once all of the clues were in place, Ron has Isshiki do the talking.

Calling the entire Investigation Division 1 and the culprit's famiy forward, the case of the piggy bank was the result of the younger sister being stalked by a man, and therefore the piggy bank itself used as a murder weapon, with the victim's body stored in the luggage suitcase. Once again, Ron's supernatural pressure got to him to force victims to kill themselves, but this time Isshiki saved her life thanks to the know-how. Isshiki came to translate Amamiya's interest in Ron, though Toto is still the sitting duck.

As BLUE's professors assimilate Ron, they just need him to act the same as before, though Toto will come to his aid.

Much better than the first episode imo, with Toto solving a case, and also the comedy hit much better this time around. The addition of BLUE to the conflict I think wasn't unexpected, if Ron was just solving cases every episode like we have so far, it would have gotten stale rather quickly.

Following last week's homicide investigation, I didn't anticipate our Holmes and Watson team delving into a "robbery" involving a piggy bank. The revelation of its connection to the deceased body near the river was a clever twist, linking seemingly disparate incidents. Unfortunately, Ron's unique ability nearly proved fatal for a woman I believe didn't quite deserve it.

Seems like Amamiya might have a bit of a crush on Ron. Hopefully, this will translate into better treatment for Toto in the future, haha.

I wouldn't even prosecute the older sister. Oh no! A stalker was killed. Said no one ever.

I wonder if BLUE even know about Kamonohashi power. Feels like they as great detectives they just got to the point of, somehow people died while he was around.

I like how Ron makes Toto "solve" the case. It makes sense to hide his own detective work while setting up the potential for Toto's development. Also, I thought Blue would send a detective alumnus who'd be Ron's rival throughout the anime, but it looks like we'll just be getting a bunch of teachers fumbling to catch him XD

I kinda expect this case to have another twist, it's not quite reasonable for the culprit to conceal the corpse instead of calling the cop. I thought this is not a self-defence, but a planned assassination. For example, she borrow a lot of money from that person and she can't return it so when he try to ask his money back, she kill him.

The opening sequence doesn't fit the actual OP.

Its a bit of a waste of a decent upbeat track.

It would be nice to see a sequencing that fits it. Really at all in any way.
As its clearly not synchronous to the notes or choral.

Hopefully that changes in episode 3->.

The crime isnt the killing it is tampering with a body instead of reporting it to the police which essentially is to help make cases easier to solve because mainly murderers and people hired to cover up crimes are the ones to dispose of a body. That is illegal everywhere for a reason but it doesnt always lead to imprisonment though i dont know how it works in Japan exactly.

Why would a bunch of detectives not notice two cases unexpectedly solved where the suspect tried to kill themselves? These sort of things go in police writeups

Ron: Go drown yourself

Amamiya: he’s so hot

Lmaoo I love her

Two murder cases back to back, I liked this one more than the barbershop case from last week as it’s a lot more morally ambiguous. Had she not tampered with the stalker’s body, she probably would’ve been released after some questioning. Now she’s gotta go through the legal process.

Given Japan’s focus on rehabilitation rather than punishment in criminal sentencing, I doubt she’ll get much if any time for this especially considering the circumstances.

Yea Amamiya, the most popular detective at the station, who’s as icy as they come already had her heart melted by Ron lmao. This dude’s way too high spec.

I’m really hype to see the BLUE academy folks get involved and see more of Ron’s backstory. A detective academy is a really cool story idea that surprisingly hasn’t been done in anime yet. At least not any I’ve seen.

Nah it makes sense. Fear motivates people to do irrational things, especially in a country like Japan where violence is shunned. So having killed someone, even in self defence, she got scared and tried to hide the evidence.

Tsuda Kenjirou as Dr. Hirsch is such obvious choice. ❤
Is like that character was just created to be voiced by him.
When anime was announced I had no expectations for Ron and Toto seiyuu, I take whoever they choose, but with Dr. Hirsch it must be Tsuda Kenjirou.

I won't be surprised if we get info that they gave him this role without an audition. 🤣

I really liked the case in this one, it was short but I like how the murder connected with the trash bin case our MCs were tackling. At first I thought one of the sisters was guilty, but they both seemed like they genuinely didn’t know so I briefly dropped that, well I was foolish lol, it was an unfortunate situation which typically would have been self defense but concealing the murder was what made it an issue, at least it seems like the older sister’s sentence won’t be that bad.

And it’s only episode 2 and I am really liking our main duo’s chemistry as they solve the case, Ron is just being random but calculating and Toto is just flabbergasted every second lol, I’m sure he’ll eventually get a grasp on Ron’s behavior but for now it’s very funny lol, I also like that Ron handheld Toto into solving the mystery, kinda reminds me of Danganronpa where you have the smart characters that kinda lead you down the right path. And the bits with Amamiya were good as well, looks like Ron has a fan lol, also that’s a based friend Toto has when he referenced who took that picture of her near the beginning.

And we got the OP and ED this episode, both very good songs, haven’t heard Unison Square Garden in such a hot minute, I think it was probably the FGO Babylonia anime if that says how long it’s been lol, and I really liked the ED too, a chill jam after solving some cases and narrowly averting tragedy.

Interesting case. Hopefully the sister doesn't get too harsh of a sentence.

I like how Ron talks about how the name fits the nature of the person or something when his name has a synonym to platypus which goes back to Ishiki calling a him an odd duck.

So wait, he was in the class of 87. And that was 5 years ago? So is this in the year 1992 like in 16 Bit Sensation.
But that doesn't make sense considering there are smartphones (Detective Conan kind of time conundrum maybe)... I'm probably overthinking this 🤔

On another note, I'm really hoping that tattoo isn't a kill count or something but I'm looking forward to why he got it.

And it looks we had another victim falling for Ron's charm in this episode.
The men at the station had no chance with Amamiya and now it's gotten even worse for them.

I think most of the time culprits tend to do unexpected things when they get revealed, but there is no way they literally look out for every case, that doesn't seem possible, especially they weren't the most important cases🤷🏽‍♂️

@uchiha_yasso Amamiya and the rest of the police force I'd say are regular police, Ron is a detective with detective academy upbringings. The students, graduates and teachers of BLUE definitely all know Ron, as well as many other forces keeping eyes on him ... The system is quite connected. Without revealing any spoilers, I hope they go into it more in later episodes. It was a good decision for the anime to introduce BLUE this early to keep the watchers interested though.

Like others, I was drawn into this episode a bit more than the first, which was unfortunately sullied by exposition (which is ok in my book).

The animation is sparkling and the humor is handled well. That sleeping cat is a sweet element, the padded apartment floor is too dreamlike (wouldn't mind having one of those).

The magical trance/death-for-death thing is a novel flaw which makes the logic of the OP MC more likable to me. It would be pretty boring if the guy was just a Sherlock Holmes style genius.

I'm not with Ron on this one.

Self-defense is a cornerstone of justice. That broad was so solid she cleaned up and made dinner after that, the only thing more gangsta is if she pistol whipped the sob. That's how casinos deal with od's, they drag you to the curb and you od outside. Broad was gangsta.

It was a good episode. I like how the case information is presented to us viewers because I tried it and to a relative extent you can actually make the same investigative deductions as our MCs. It’s great when the explanation given for a crime committed in a show is plausible and relatable, it makes it easier to take the show as seriously as it takes itself and you get to exercise your mind while simultaneously being entertained. I’m looking forward to the rest of the show being like and improving upon this momentum.

When I read the title of this episode I really had to laugh. I'm glad it turned out to be a real case and was connected to it. Although I would have liked to know how Ron knew they were connected or why he'd resolve a "case" like this otherwise (I mean even before he saw the suitcase - which by the way reminded me of a real life case I've heard of so good job on this one).

Also him not being allowed to work as a detective and the punishment he'd get for it came out of the blue (sorry, pun intended :D). I'm just wondering how is strange condition started (something must have lead to it). Also if the school is so convinced those criminals died because of him after he solved these cases why is he still roaming free (I mean at least we know he'd have the ability but something tells me something's not right)? Wouldn't you normally arrest someone for vigilantism? Then again nothing about this show seems normal :D. Still there are many questions. I think regardless of the criimes and cases Ron will remain the greatest mystery.

Once again Toto saved someone's life and not to justify the lady but it was self-defense. I hope they start to treat Toto better now (but I doubt it).

And most importantly: will the sleeping cat become a running gag of this series?
Episode was ok but I expected more after the first episode.

@k3woru Hmmmm yes, they know him of course but it is weird that they keep an eye on him for that long after he got kicked, especially when he doesn't leave his house, and you saw how everytime he notice Toto standing infornt of his door, this means it isn't easy to spy on him, in addtion to his appearance change, it seemed weird that they could notice his activity that early

With how easy it seems to stop people from killing themselves, I can't help but feel that everyone surrounding Ron was super negligent? Everyone involved here acted with extreme incompetence and they still saved her, yet the detectives at the super detective academy somehow found it beyond them, every single time?

Also, I know the Japanese police is pretty fucked up in its conviction methods, but barely any of this guys deductions would count in court.

I wish the writing for this anime about super clever people was less stupid?

This is such a silly show. There’s a school entirely dedicated to making detectives and nothing else, Ron lays next to corpses as if he’s trying to seduce them, and there is an illness who can make people “pressure someone to death”. I’m excited for the next episode.

I would also like to theorize that the purple haired person in the ending is possessing Ron, as a ghost, and that’s what his illness is. But I could be wrong lol

you know... for a university of supposed genius detectives... i find it funny how none of them had the interest or initiative to even bother to investigate or figured out the parameters or conditions that caused the death of the dropout detective's theorized victims before kicking him out and placing a international ban order on him. they couldn't even bother to take his testimony or even survey or supervise him while he works? nor could they even find a simple workaround to his condition even if they found him guilty of aiding and abetting (suicide) that they could use his talents in a controlled manner like limiting his interaction with the perp or simply gagging him after the perp's confession? Plus i don't think aiding and abetting suicide is considered a heinous enough felony to warrant capital punishment on an international level. Sure due to it being caused by a supernatural ability it could be considered 1st degree murder but how exactly are they going to physically prove its existence and if they can, what benefit does it bring them considering his usefulness? idk the writing has much to be desired.

Looks like the female head of detectives might already have a "thing" for our bad boy, who was considered "too dangerous" to allow to graduate (on account of all the perps dying).

Can't wait to see more!

Can I know how those teachers in blue council knew about Ron getting back by only solving two unimportant cases? even Amamiya didn't know his name, and the cases have Toto's name as the one who solved them 💀
@uchiha_yasso omg, I didn't notice that....maybe they have surveillance over Ron 24/7? they're a detective school after all...idk
