Slice of life anime usually describe anime characters in a normal life. What do you expect things to be happened in such an ordinary genre?

For me, I do expect some character development as the story goes, as well as some remarkable endings at the end for a masterpiece in the slice of life genre.

extra extra bonus points if the characters constantly interplay & influence in a fun or interesting way with how the (often lowkey and perhaps uneventful) narrative develops

If you're a fanboy, please don't waste my time.

I guess what your examples are showing that anime characters working towards a goal, and that to me is also something that I'd like to see from slice of life anime.

According to google which gave me the meaning from Oxford Languages - > a realistic representation of everyday experience in a film, play, or book.

So I'd expect a represantation of a some parts of life of the characters in real world wich does not involve anything unrealistic or fantastic.

Slice of life anime tend to be character and comedy driven, so that's what I expect out of them. I also expect them to be relaxing. If the characters aren't interesting then the anime has failed imo.

Also, slice of life is about what normal life is to those characters. Something like Endro, Anne Happy, or Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou are still slice of life anime even if their lives are very different from our lives. Being able to explore an interesting world in a more casual way through the eyes of what ordinary inhabitants are like in that world can be a nice experience, in fact I'd prefer it over something more action heavy.

Character developments and character progressions(optional), of course.

Since we're facing the character's everyday life for a couple hours, the characters need to be developed enough.

i expect to feel happy after finishing the episode. the anime should have cute girls which are absolutely moe material. it should have the ability to heal me from my boring or depressing or bad day.

thankfully most if not all sols have all these qualities in them.

good characters goes without saying, we are looking at the life of characters afterall, they need to be likable of course.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.
Feeling half happy, half sad.

Don't be a (not) finely wrought and comfortable dead end.

I think you got the definition of slice of life wrong since the whole point of "real" slice of life is not having a definite plot that moves forward and instead showing characters doing their thing with limited to no real development. Aria is good examples of true slice of life anime.

Have you ever truly read or watched Aria from the beginning to the end? If yes, then it must be your terrible eyesight not being able to see the characters' development in order to reach to their goals.

I think you got the definition of slice of life wrong since the whole point of "real" slice of life is not having a definite plot that moves forward and instead showing characters doing their thing with limited to no real development . Shows like Spy Family or Violet Evergarden are not really slice of life shows but they are comedy or drama with some slice of life elements in them. Mushishi, Aria and Haibane Renmei are good examples of true slice of life anime.
is it sarcasm? you do understand that the three shows you mentioned have both the things a lot more than spy x family and as much as violet. aria and haibane have tons of character development by the end of the series. also, even though mushishi is episodic it tackles a lot of serious and dramatic themes.

Liimited character development is still a development as I said, but I might have worded it better. The important thing is thet show's focus is still on the activities of the characters rather than the characters themselves.

Lol. I'm well aware there is a difference in term of ideology, but if knowing how to blend yourself in the great big outside world, but still being able to find (and build) a much smaller corner for yourself personally, isn't a lifetime-last development, then I don't know what is.

Is that the only expectation you have from Sol anime? Because I believe sol anime has more to offer than characters doing their own things in daily life. For example, friendship is one of the themes I often see in sol. Seeing how friendship develops in sol is another thing I would probably like to see in some anime involving school settings.

lots of dialogue. What separates the best ones from the others is the dialogue, and memorable characters, and obviously having good animation will help as well. That's why not a lot of slice-of-life anime come close to "March comes in like a lion" for me.

Well, it's certainly not a slice of life like something like Yuru camp is a slice of life but it definitely contains alot of sol elements. I tend to find the ones that "nothing happens" over a course of 12 episodes kinda inferior to other stuff that may contain drama but also have sol moments that make the drama way worth watching.

For example, if I didn't see the everyday lives of Hina and her sisters, I wouldn't care so much that she was

SOL are supposed to be snippets of mundane day to day life. the drama in 3-gatsu is way too intense to be called mundane.

The stakes might seem extremely low, but that's a good thing, because unlike a world ending plot, they could fail at everything and the story could still continue.
And if you are curious about how much the comedy carries the series, down below I linked literally every single funny moment in the anime.

I think SoL that have the character's progress to some sort of goal (K-on, GochiUsa, etc.) by telling the story through their everyday lives are some of the best. That said, I also love the ones that have no clear goal (Lucky Star, Yuru Yuri, Non Non Biyori). So really, as long as it has CGDCT in it, and it's not complete garbage, then I'll probably like it.

However, the ones with male characters are really god as well, so I guess it just needs to be halfway funny
