| I've never heard of someone say that, but I'm not a fan of CSM either, so maybe I'm not around their circle where the fans are going apeshit. I do know that every time a manga blows up, their fanbase puts the mangaka and their work in a pedestal. Demon Slayer was a perfect example of this. Like I would bet good money that if Koyoharu would walk up to one of his fans, and tells them to suck his balls, their fanbase would ask which nut. |

| Disregarding the immature banter above... On topic. Great question. I genuinely don't know or understand how Fujimoto is so popular and overrated. I'm a fan myself and enjoy his unique talent/style of being very unpredictable, creative in concept with epic scenarios. I've now read all of his work and just completed Chainsaw Man Part 1. Surprisingly, his One-Shots are very good unlike his manga. Fire Punch and Chainsaw Man are undoubtedly overrated for their flaws in plots and mediocre characters. Shockingly, Chainsaw Man is somewhat his worst work I've read for the quality of writing. That and Fire Punch are very unstructured. What ruins Chainsaw Man though is the immature comedy, the bad characters and Denji himself as an idiotic horny perverted teenager as a deranged undead killer living on a psychotic dangerous world. It's awful. It's mostly unfunny, and the erotica of fan-service femdom is stupidly forced with a parallel stupid protagonist. Most of Fujimoto's action is phenomenal, but Chainsaw Man is not his best writing at all. Fire Punch was better until the end, and even that has flaws, but not as many as Chainsaw Man from the start. |
| Because he is, for shounen... Like usual, peoples here have this tendency of failing to take shounen for what it is. I see people complaining about how X and Y shounen's story lacks deepness and sophistication, and all that crap. Shounen targets an audience between 13yo and 17yo. The fact that so many adults read it and complain about the lack of sophistication shows that many just refuse to grow up, yet want to act like adults while still playing with toys. Just move on people... Maybe you are at that point, where you should focus on Seinen, or maybe even Jousei. You don't go and watch Shark Boy and Lava Girl and complain that is not as good as Game of Thrones... is a children's movie! CSM is not perfect... the art often looks like a manuscript rather than a manga, really low quality even for a weekly shounen series... and the paneling at times is very hard to follow because is too fast-paced. Yet is quite revolutionary for shounen, especially for shounen jump, which has been dominated by quite classic types of Shounen for decades. This is a very different direction. The universe is very interesting and well-constructed, and the characters are very good. All that stuff with Makima was quite a twist too. The comedy reminds me of the crazy stuff you see in Satoshi Kon works. Sure, is no Crime and Punishment... but that's the bloody point! Is shounen! Is supposed to be cool, interesting, and sophisticated to a degree, but easy enough to follow and understand for it's main audience - teenagers and preteens. No freaking 13yo out there, understand what the heck Evangelion is about. Nor would they understand Madoka... especially Rebellion (which most pretentious adults here I notice that don't seem to understand either). This community is made up of pretentious fools. So many times, I had seen people complaining about how something is not deep and sophisticated... and when you get an anime that truly is or a moment in an anime that has subtilities in, it passes by those people like they have the level of comprehension of a 5yo child. Is really hilarious to watch... but also sad... and pathetic... |

| I doubt that the Fujimoto-should-be-a-movie-director thing is a popular opinion, but in regards to the question in the title: Based off of what I've seen on this site, a lot of people who don't read manga often (or at all) tend to check out Fujimoto's works for some reason, so I'm not surprised when those people turn around saying he is so different - or "revolutionary" as the title puts it - when they aren't familiar with what the medium of manga has to offer or are used to standard shounen fare. |
